[SET COMMENTS]
As a Defogger, Gurdurr has a phenomenal matchup against common entry hazard setters like Piloswine and Ferroseed. It also finds opportunities to Defog as a bulky offensive threat, forcing out physical attackers unable to trade hits with it like Raboot and Galarian Linoone. While Knock Off helps versus physical walls like Galarian Corsola and Tangela, Gurdurr's shortcoming is its inability to break said walls and its vulnerabilities to all special attackers. Mach Punch patches up Gurdurr's poor Speed and takes out faster, weakened attackers. Alternatively, Toxic targets the physical walls Gurdurr can't break and High Horsepower is another option for Poison-types like Koffing and Mareanie. Guts is mandatory to circumvent burn spreaders like Galarian Corsola and to capitalize on Toxic and Toxic Spikes. The defensive investment allows Gurdurr to switch into Choice Band Raboot + Stealth Rock and avoid 3HKOs from Piloswine and Heavy-Duty Boots Raboot.

Ferroseed and Vullaby are notable partners for checking Tangela and Psychic-types, and Mareanie helps by checking Wartortle and Lampent. Piloswine and Marshtomp block the strong Volt Switch from Electabuzz and force out Poison-types. Conversely, defensive Poison-types like Roselia and Koffing cover for Thwackey + Tangela and can remove Toxic Spikes; in return, they appreciate Gurdurr as a Piloswine check. With Gurdurr's Knock Off support, offensive picks like Electabuzz, Raboot, and Gastly capitalize on Tangela, Clefairy, and Mareanie without their Eviolite bulk.

[SET COMMENTS]
Guts-boosted Gurdurr is a force to be reckoned with; it trades Eviolite and Drain Punch for the power and coverage of Close Combat and Facade. Gurdurr 2HKOes Clefairy, Mareanie, and Slowpoke that it otherwise would be walled by. Unfortunately, Gurdurr cannot adequately deal with its usual counters like Tangela and Koffing, and without defensive investment, Gurdurr is vulnerable to faster revenge killers; a variety of walls from Tangela, Brave Bird Vullaby, and Roselia all run at least enough speed to outpace this set. Mach Punch at least somewhat makes up for this shortcoming, and a Jolly nature is plausible to ge the jump on the aforementioned walls but then Gurdurr would not be capable of 2HKOing Galarian Gorsola.

Carjabug and Slurpuff offer Sticky Web so that Gurdurr may target Lampent and stallbreaker Tangela. Its Volt Switch also not only gets Gurdurr in safely, as Gurdurr lacks Eviolite bulk, but pivots also activate Flame Orb so Gurdurr can wallbreak immediately. Other defensive pivots like Tangela and Slowpoke bait in Ferroseed and Vullaby for Gurdurr to break. They also carry Stun Spore and Thunder Wave, so if they can paralyze Golbat, then one of Gurdurr's best counters won't be able to safely switch into it. Electabuzz and Thwackey also help bring in Gurdurr and wear down Tangela with item removal and pivoting attacks. Piloswine and Future Sight Duosion help versus the Poison-types that Gurdurr struggles to break.

move 1: Bulk Up
move 2: Drain Punch
move 3: Knock Off / Thunder Punch / Ice Punch
move 4: Mach Punch
item: Eviolite
ability: Guts / Iron Fist
nature: Adamant
evs: 180 HP / 252 Atk / 76 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Bulk Up makes Gurdurr function as a late-game sweeper, with Drain Punch allowing it to recover off any chip damage it lost while setting up, and Mach Punch finishes off faster attackers like Choice Band Piloswine and Galarian Linoone. Gurdurr's coverage is team dependent; while Knock Off certainly helps with Psychic- and Ghost-types, an Iron Fist boosted Thunder Punch 2HKOes Eviolite-less Mareanie and Ice Punch deals with Roselia. Iron First works in conjunction with the rest of Gurdurr's attacks, though Guts is still preferred due to how common status spreaders are. Walls like Hattrem and Mareanie are naturally faster than Gurdurr, so it runs 76 Speed EVs to attack them first.

With Knock Off, Gurdurr will need teammates like Choice Band Piloswine, Assurance Raboot, and Vullaby to wear down Clefairy and Haze Mareanie. When opting for Thunder Punch or Ice Punch, try to pressure walls like Hattrem and Galarian Corsola with wallbreakers like Lampent, Fraxure, and Rufflet. Entry hazard support from Spikes Roselia and Ferroseed is imperative so that Gurdurr is more likely to finish off Electabuzz with Mach Punch, and these two are also good at removing Hattrem's Eviolite with Covet and Knock Off, respectively.

While Knock Off helps versus physical walls like Golbat and Tangela, Gurdurr's shortcoming is its inability to break said walls and its vulnerabilities to all special attackers. Mach Punch patches up Gurdurr's poor Speed and specifically targets Pikachu and Focus Sash Kadabra examples please. Alternatively, Toxic helps versus some walls, especially Galarian Corsola given that it's a Stealth Rock user Gurdurr cannot break on its own. High Horsepower is another option for Poison-types like Koffing and Mareanie. Guts is mandatory to circumvent burn spreaders like Galarian Corsola and Slowpoke and to capitalize on Toxic and Toxic Spikes. The defensive investment allows Gurdurr to avoid 3HKOs from Piloswine and Raboot. to be more specific, the spread allows gurdurr to switch into choice band raboot with stealth rock up, in addition to having enough general bulk to more easily handle piloswine and HDB raboot.

Special walls are imperative partners to Gurdurr so it is not as easily revenge killed. Ferroseed and Vullaby are notable for checking Tangela and Psychic-types, and Mareanie helps by checking Fire-types like Magmar and Lampent specs magmar kinda owns mareanie, would prefer to see this sentence changed to something like "mareanie can check common special attackers like lampent/wartortle", if possible you could restructure this to link mareanie more directly to the toxic spikes absorption point you talk about later. Piloswine and Marshtomp also help against Kadabra and Magmar while distinctly blocking the strong Volt Switch from Pikachu and Electabuzz remove pikachu as a mention here. Defensive Poison-types like Golbat and Koffing cover for Thwackey + Rufflet and can remove Toxic Spikes i don't think they cover cb rufflet, you might need another example; in return, they appreciate Gurdurr as a Piloswine check. With Gurdurr's Knock Off support, offensive picks like Kadabra, Raboot, and Gastly capitalize on Tangela, Clefairy, and Mareanie without their Eviolite bulk.

Unfortunately, Gurdurr is still not fast enough nor strong enough to adequately deal with its usual counters of Golbat, Tangela, and especially Neutralizing Gas Koffing. Mach Punch at least allows it to finish off faster, weakened threats like Galarian Mr. Mime and Magmar as well as OHKO Pikachu. i think this paragraph is worth rephrasing; gurdurr does technically have the power to beat all of tangela, golbat, and koffing fairly consistently, but only if it's willing to risk sacrificing itself in the process; golbat doesn't do enough with brave bird, and everything else is outsped and loses to knock -> facade spam, it's just a trade (or close enough to one) if they attack back. also, as before, remove the pikachu mention.

Pivots not only get Gurdurr in safely as it lacks Eviolite bulk, but they also activate Flame Orb so Gurdurr can wallbreak immediately. Defensive pivots like Tangela and Slowpoke bait in Ferroseed and Vullaby for Gurdurr to break. Defog Gurdurr may opt for Flame Orb and Facade, combining some of the good qualities of both existing sets but not excelling in either role. Bulk Up instead of Defog transforms Gurdurr into a late-game defensive sweeper, although this set is less popular due to the scarcity of Defoggers and prevalence of Gurdurr counters. Iron Fist is another option, especially with coverage like Ice Punch and Thunder Punch to hit walls like Golbat and Tangela or Mareanie and Slowpoke. However, without Guts, Gurdurr becomes exploitable by status users.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Poison-types**: Golbat completely walls Gurdurr and threatens with a faster Brave Bird. Gurdurr will also struggle breaking past Koffing and Mareanie without High Horsepower, and Neutralizing Gas Koffing is especially notable for negating Guts. Lastly, Mach Punch is futile in stopping Ivysaur sweeps.

**Physical Walls**: Walls like Tangela, Clefairy, and Galarian Corsola outstall and stomach Gurdurr's hits. specify offensive variants of; Tangela also outspeeds and may OHKO Eviolite-less Gurdurr, while the latter two are able to secure Stealth Rock versus it. mention that the latter two are particularly vulnerable to flame orb variants

**Psychic-types**: Gurdurr's low special bulk and Psychic weakness is exploited by Kadabra, Galarian Mr. Mime, and Hattrem. Duosion and Slowpoke are also bulky enough to wall Gurdurr without the Guts boost. point out that slowpoke can't directly threaten it but instead has to teleport into an offensive check

**Special Attackers**: In general, Gurdurr lacks any relevant resistances to special attacks and has low special bulk even with Eviolite. Any special attacker poses a threat to Gurdurr, whether it is Electabuzz, Magmar, accidental double space hereLampent, Gastly, or so on. Only Pikachu immediately fears Mach Punch, as otherwise revenge killers would need to be severely worn down to be stopped by Gurdurr's priority. wouldn't really classify pikachu as a special attacker, but regardless remove it please

**Rufflet**: Choice Band and Bulk Up Rufflet revenge kill Gurdurr, although both sets fail to switch in safely against it. bulk up rufflet needs a significant number of boosts before it's actually an offensive threat, i'm pretty sure it doesn't force out gurdurr even if you've knocked it; 0 Atk Hustle Rufflet Aerial Ace vs. 252 HP / 200 Def Gurdurr: 102-122 (27.2 - 32.6%)

Alternatively, Toxic helps versus some walls, especially Galarian Corsola (Charjabug, Gabite, Wartortle are probably better mentions for walls u can abuse toxic on, u still lose the 1v1 vs whirlpool cors) given that it's a Stealth Rock user Gurdurr cannot break on its own. High Horsepower is another option for Poison-types like Koffing and Mareanie.
