[SET COMMENTS]
As a Defogger, Gurdurr has a phenomenal matchup against common entry hazard setters like Piloswine and Ferroseed. It also finds opportunities to Defog as a bulky offensive threat, forcing out physical attackers unable to trade hits with it like Raboot and Galarian Linoone. While Knock Off helps versus physical walls like Galarian Corsola and Tangela, Gurdurr's shortcoming is its inability to break said walls and its vulnerabilities to all special attackers. Mach Punch patches up Gurdurr's poor Speed and takes out faster, weakened attackers. Alternatively, Toxic targets the physical walls Gurdurr can't break and High Horsepower is another option for Poison-types like Koffing and Mareanie. Guts is mandatory to circumvent burn spreaders like Galarian Corsola and to capitalize on Toxic and Toxic Spikes. The defensive investment allows Gurdurr to switch into Choice Band Raboot + Stealth Rock and avoid 3HKOs from Piloswine and Heavy-Duty Boots Raboot.
Ferroseed and Vullaby are notable partners for checking Tangela and Psychic-types, and Mareanie helps by checking Wartortle and Lampent. Piloswine and Marshtomp block the strong Volt Switch from Electabuzz and force out Poison-types. Conversely, defensive Poison-types like Roselia and Koffing cover for Thwackey + Tangela and can remove Toxic Spikes; in return, they appreciate Gurdurr as a Piloswine check. With Gurdurr's Knock Off support, offensive picks like Electabuzz, Raboot, and Gastly capitalize on Tangela, Clefairy, and Mareanie without their Eviolite bulk.

move 1: Close Combat
move 2: Knock Off
move 3: Facade
move 4: Mach Punch
item: Flame Orb
ability: Guts
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Guts-boosted Gurdurr is a force to be reckoned with; it trades Eviolite and Drain Punch for the power and coverage of Close Combat and Facade. Gurdurr 2HKOes Clefairy, Mareanie, and Slowpoke that it otherwise would be walled by. Unfortunately, Gurdurr cannot adequately deal with its usual counters like Tangela and Koffing, and without defensive investment, Gurdurr is vulnerable to faster revenge killers; a variety of walls from Tangela, Brave Bird Vullaby, and Roselia all run at least enough speed to outpace this set. Mach Punch at least somewhat makes up for this shortcoming, and a Jolly nature is plausible to ge the jump on the aforementioned walls but then Gurdurr would not be capable of 2HKOing Galarian Gorsola.
Carjabug and Slurpuff offer Sticky Web so that Gurdurr may target Lampent and stallbreaker Tangela. Its Volt Switch also not only gets Gurdurr in safely, as Gurdurr lacks Eviolite bulk, but pivots also activate Flame Orb so Gurdurr can wallbreak immediately. Other defensive pivots like Tangela and Slowpoke bait in Ferroseed and Vullaby for Gurdurr to break. They also carry Stun Spore and Thunder Wave, so if they can paralyze Golbat, then one of Gurdurr's best counters won't be able to safely switch into it. Electabuzz and Thwackey also help bring in Gurdurr and wear down Tangela with item removal and pivoting attacks. Piloswine and Future Sight Duosion help versus the Poison-types that Gurdurr struggles to break.

name: Bulk Up
move 1: Bulk Up
move 2: Drain Punch
move 3: Knock Off / Thunder Punch / Ice Punch
move 4: Mach Punch
item: Eviolite
ability: Guts / Iron Fist
nature: Adamant
evs: 180 HP / 252 Atk / 76 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Bulk Up makes Gurdurr function as a late-game sweeper, with Drain Punch allowing it to recover off any chip damage it lost while setting up, and Mach Punch finishes off faster attackers like Choice Band Piloswine and Galarian Linoone. Gurdurr's coverage is team dependent; while Knock Off certainly helps with Psychic- and Ghost-types, an Iron Fist boosted Thunder Punch 2HKOes Eviolite-less Mareanie and Ice Punch deals with Roselia. Iron First works in conjunction with the rest of Gurdurr's attacks, though Guts is still preferred due to how common status spreaders are. Walls like Hattrem and Mareanie are naturally faster than Gurdurr, so it runs 76 Speed EVs to attack them first.
With Knock Off, Gurdurr will need teammates like Choice Band Piloswine, Assurance Raboot, and Vullaby to wear down Clefairy and Haze Mareanie. When opting for Thunder Punch or Ice Punch, try to pressure walls like Hattrem and Galarian Corsola with wallbreakers like Lampent, Fraxure, and Rufflet. Entry hazard support from Spikes Roselia and Ferroseed is imperative so that Gurdurr is more likely to finish off Electabuzz with Mach Punch, and these two are also good at removing Hattrem's Eviolite with Covet and Knock Off, respectively.
