In somewhat of a subversion for a Slowbro, this guy's not really dumb. He can actually be pretty smart if he really puts in the effort. No, it's more that he's stubborn. Very much so. Edea levels of stubborn. He will absolutely refuse to back down once he's settled on something, and he certainly has the stamina and iron will to tire any potential opponents out.
That said, because of this, he's incredibly difficult to bring to reason at times, so yeah, he can be pretty stupid. Apparently he doesn't mind being hit either, maybe he's just that sturdy. He'll often use that, uh, talent of his to great effect both in battle and outside of battle, as he's adamant on being everyone's shield. Eh, at least he has his heart in the right place.

It was a surprise to spot a Nihilego wandering around, for sure, but a welcome one. Apparently Subject N followed us through our dimensional shift somehow, and tracked our signature back to us...? The explanation I was given was full of complex 5D stuff like that, and I'll be honest: half of this escapes my mind.
Anyway, Subject N is now even more hyper in this new and unfamiliar environment: she just wants to poke at everything, explore everywhere, swallow everything... yeah, we can't have that last one, especially when "everything" includes people.
She's otherwise still as difficult to understand as before. Of course, her movements usually reflect her emotions, but the inner workings of her mind... now that's another matter entirely.

Hey, coming in with an official ruling.

As per Red Card's text from the Data Audit, "use the trigger syntax or anything similar," I'm willing to allow trigger condition modification on the condition that, just like regular substitutions, it further restricts the condition of the substitution. (e.g. Upon being hit by Flamethrower AND it burns me, activate Red Card (2) - this is legal)

"It seems like we've finally cleared up some last-minute administration that had been forestalling this match. It is unfortunate, but it's also behind us. Let the countdown begin, and with it the battle you've been waiting for! 3... 2... 1...!

Right on the word go, both battlers let slip their aces in the hole! Armstrong the Cloyster litters TMan's field and Pokemon both in a brutal barrage of boulders, turning that side of the arena into a horrible hazard. Chiaki doesn't manage to move at all, much less dodge!

In the midst of the next volley, they finally manage to strike back with a massive attack of their own! The paralysis hamstrings Armstrong's ability to leverage his item, which could buy TMan important breathing room! Note how Chiaki comes out of this round healthier than their opponent, despite weathering so many more hits. Armstrong's non-damage item choice, Chiaki's relative bulk, and their ability to strike on Armstrong's weaker side, is the reason for this.

To speak of breath, both battlers are already on the verge of exhaustion. Battling in this arena is insidiously dangerous! Both trainers are sure to see this and manage their stamina more carefully going forward, so we may have a battle of calculated attrition to look forward to! LouisCyphre, could you please explain the flaw in my logic?
  1. Hazard creation is the effect of Spikes.
  2. Handbook said:
    Each hit of a Multi-Hit Move can apply any effects associated with the move. Roll the effect chance for each hit individually.
  3. The effect of Spikes becomes associated with the Multi-Hit Move by the combination process, as would other effects such as paralysis chances.
  4. Therefore, each hit of Cloyster's combo sets a layer of Spikes.

nicer version: I've gotten used to thinking in terms of effects being on-use, or on-hit. The game still has a little wild-west in its rules this Gen.

the thing I love most about BBP is that it's so good. isn't it fun how fully-functioning and comprehensive the rules are.

With Jay's permission, I've issued this hotfix to the multi-hit rules so it doesn't multiply any effect in the game. This means TMan87 will have 1 layer of Spikes after the combo.

Since both you and TMan have been affected by rulings in just the first round alone; I asked TMan, and he said to ask you: Would you prefer to re-order this round, or proceed as it lays?
  • If we re-order, we'll take the timestamp of those new orders as the start of the match's time limit.
  • If not, we'll go by the initial time limit with the current extension, to make up for the time it took me to get the ruling written up.

IF Slowbro is under the effects of a successful P/E move when you would act, use Synthesis the first instance and Chill the second, pushing back each instance and replacing Energy Ball in your main order set by Leaf Storm.
[Check at the start of the round] IF Slowbro is set to use Bide a1, replace your orders by Leech Seed - Chill - Boomburst.
[Check at the start of the step] IF Slowbro is set to use a Damaging Evasive Move, AND Trick Room is active, use Solar Beam that action instead and push back.
