VR has been updated fully to C, will add the lower ranks at a later time. Notable large rises include Jumpluff and Omastar, the former being a great blanket setup check with Encore and status abuser while the latter is a solid Normal resist that isn't useless vs the Slow brothers. Expect more detailed analysis soon.

Here is some analysis on the differences when comparing the current VR against my earlier long post in this thread:
  • The top four Pokemon remain unchanged and will probably stay that way.
  • Slowking has dropped from 5 to 9 due to Slowbro being a better choice on many teams.
  • Electabuzz has dropped from 7 to 11 due to its lack of opportunities to switch in, and due to a resurgence in popularity of Ampharos. I argued for Electabuzz to stay higher in my previous post, but I have since changed my opinion on it.
  • Mr. Mime has moved up to 7 from 10 as one of the best leads and special attackers in the tier while also having numerous and unpredictable disruption tools at its disposal.
  • Qwilfish has moved up to 10 and is now part of A due to its ubiquitous status as the tier's best spiker while also cutting into the viability of a lot of Pokemon.
  • Jumpluff has moved up to 12 from 15 as one of the few Pokemon that can disrupt Scyther reliably while also switching into many Water-types and forcing them out. It is also decent at spreading status and preventing Baton Pass teams from gaining momentum.
  • Bellossom has also moved up significantly to 14 as most Pokemon cannot hurt it much while it spreads status and forces switches or even sets up SD itself.
  • Sandslash has moved up slightly as one of the Pokemon with the highest wall-breaking potential and due to its great synergy with paralysis spreaders, which are very numerous, while also not being 2HKOed by +2 Scyther and 2HKOing in return with Rock Slide. Its very poor SpDef is a major drawback, however.
  • Gyarados has dropped into B+ due to metagame trends going against it and other Pokemon being favoured over it (Ampharos, Jumpluff/Bellossom).
  • Kadabra has moved up to 19 from 23 because it was arguably underrated previously, being rather powerful and having Encore and Recover to take advantage of enemy special attackers, while speed tying Scyther.
  • Omastar has moved up to 20 from 28 thanks to Granbull being everywhere and Omastar being able to take advantage of it easily, while also handling HP Ground Dodrio easily.
  • Chansey has moved up a little due to its strong potential with non-Heal Bell sets.
  • Quagsire has moved up a little due to its popularity and useful typing.
  • Blastoise has dropped to 25 due to it performing relatively poorly in its niche.
  • Piloswine has dropped to 26 due to being a slow Pokemon with limited opportunities to switch in while being slow, despite being fairly tanky.
  • Electrode has moved up from 35 to 30 due to its ability to set up opportunities for various kinds of teams with screens + Explosion.
  • Pikachu has moved up from 39 to 31 due to its high threat level against many teams.
  • Crobat has dropped from 32 to 30 due to its lack of ability to output damage against Pokemon that aren't weak to Flying.
  • Graveler has moved up to 34 from 44 due to its niche as a Normal-resist with Rapid Spin which can OHKO Scyther and trade for something with Explosion.
  • Magmar has dropped to 36 from 33 due to being mostly outclassed by Arcanine and not being good against the top Pokemon in the tier.
  • Victreebel has dropped from 31 to 37 due to the myriad issues it faces in the tier, while Vileplume has remained in B-. This is because the extra bulk Vileplume has is useful whereas the extra Speed and Attack Victreebel has is less useful in the metagame.
  • Shuckle has dropped from 34 to 38 due to its tendency to give up momentum.
  • Poliwhirl has moved up to 39 from 48 because its Speed tier and access to LK + BDrum makes it a legitimate threat, for example outspeeding and OHKOing Nidoqueen/Qwilfish at +6 with EQ and 2HKOing Slowbro.
  • Wigglytuff, Lickitung, and Dunsparce have all dropped due to being significantly outclassed by other Curse Normal-types.
  • Poliwrath has dropped from 40 to 45 due to it being weak to Psychic and its poor speed tier.

Also, as a reminder, the GSC NU tier list will most likely be defined based on this VR this coming weekend, with everything in the S/A/B ranks being banned. Therefore, if you think anything is overrated in B- or underrated in C+/C please post about it.

I'll keep this short, but I believe Graveler should drop to C+.

Okay, it does get Spin and Explosion. Fine. Niche found but that's it.
It first of all needs to run HP Rock if you run Rapid Spin, since Rock Slide is in combination with RS illegal. Not a big deal, means you have an accurate move but also results in it having 11 HP DVs, 13 ATK DVs and 12 Def DVS (probably just matters very slightly).

It can OHKO Scyther, but so can a bunch of other things too in this tier, so doesn't give me a good reason to use it at all.

It does resist normal type moves, BUT it cannot even counter granbull with a set of RS Boom HP Rock EQ lol
It needs to kind of act quickly and/or run a 2nd way of checking normal types (haunter if not a second rock type lol)

Outside of normal types it doesn't really switch into anything of the tier, since a bunch of stuff is special oriented too (psychics are everywhere, nidoqueen, sandslash and others)

If you ever plan on running curse and ditch rapid spin e.g. you won't get far with it since it simply doesn't have the typing to ever be threatening in a tier with slowbro and some grass types that sit on it and just ohko it.

All in all it's just a pokemon that's dicked out by a majority of the tier and probably might get some boom kill, but if it isn't really the one you need then you might as well just run a good rock type or good pokemon over it.

C+ is good enough for Graveler imo. It has one of the most underrated booms of the metagame (it is always good to have a good Attack stat + STAB consistent enough to force Haunter and Magneton to think twice before risking). But besides the role compression against Scyther and Dodrio, it's a bit shaky. As a Ground-type, it's kinda annoying when you can't even check Electabuzz reliably, and he stacks too many weakness, teambuilding-wise. Trying to put a secondary answer to fix the Granbull weakness (maybe an extra resistance / immunity along Slowbro?) makes any Graveler team extremely vulnerable against Psychic-types, especially Mr. Mime and Kadabra, and on the flipside, trying to fix the Psych-weakness bringing checks like Magneton or Hypno stacks the Ground-type weakness against Nidoqueen + Spikes, and Sandslash.

I think Victreebel actually belongs to Vileplume level (bottom B-). Both suffer with from a coverage dilemma (if you choose Grass-coverage for Slowbro, you lose consistency against Nido, and vice-versa if you opt for HP Ground coverage vs. Nido / Magneton / Haunter). This is even worse when you can't find any good set-up opportunities at all, because even defensively-oriented Pokémon like Slowbro or Hypno are dangerous against it. Hell, even stuff like Scyther and Mr. Mime can go for the rk after some chip damage. The only reason to consider Victreebel in a conventional build imo is to fix a possible weakness against Quagsire / Kabutops / Politoed weakness + offensive presence (SD + Sludge Bomb + Sleep Powder is dangerous against the majority of the Sleep Talkers of the metagame).

I don't have an issue with dropping Graveler to the top of C+. It is clearly a decent Pokemon, having great potential to contribute to a team by blowing through Slowbro or Granbull, while also potentially removing Spikes. However, it is also true that it lacks opportunities to come in safely. Scyther BPs its SD out to Nidoqueen, which can be a big problem if you chose HP Rock, and even against Granbull, it's not an ideal switch into Curse unless you are running Curse yourself.

I can also agree that we were probably too harsh on Victreebel. It is still a big threat with its SD SP SB HP Ground set, quite possibly achieving a favourable trade, and one can build their team to avoid Qwilfish coming in freely. Either right below or above Vileplume in B- seems more suitable than C+ for it.

10/7/18 Update

This will be the final one before the new GSC NU banlist is created, so we primarily focused on the B- and C+/C ranks seeing if anything was out of place. While we didn't change much, these two we found to be off.

Rises:
Victreebell C+ -> B- (above Vileplume)

Victreebel has an ability to break most sleep absorbers with Swords Dance, and while a great number of things revenge it, very little of them come in on a boosted Victree safely. It also has options like Stun Spore to punish Scyther especially if it tries to use the SD turn as a way to come in, often used in conjunction with another sleep user like Lovely Kiss Queen or Hypnosis Mr. Mime. Its inability to ever find positions to sweep, as well as not having a great way to break past Slowbro despite being a Grass-type keep it on the lower side of the VR.

Drops:
Graveler: B- -> top of C+

Choolio and Century Express posts nicely cover why this drop is occuring, its ability to function as a Scyther block is counterproductive with trying to trade using Explosion, a myriad of Special Attackers all can win the 1v1 with it, and even more predictable Electric-types like Ampharos can beat it relatively quickly. Teambuilding with it is hard not to stack weaknesses to Water- and Psychic-types when trying to partner with other Granbull checks, or even just Nidoqueen.

Hm, this meta doesn't seem to have any notable fighting types at all. I guess the threat of bulky normals is pretty much absent or something? What about Hitmonlee, or Machoke? Were they delegated to NU or something?

answer for the last part, yes. the main thing keeping them from being good Is the commoness of their checks. poison, psychics, and flying types like nidoqueen, slowbro, scyther, and dodrio hurts them a lot. or at least I think so, I'm not very well versed in gsc uu

UUPL ended fairly recently and the inaugural GSC UU Cup is coming up in a couple of days (!), so what better a time to review some of the new usage stats for the latest metagame trends?

There are a few notable things here for me.
- Nidoqueen doesn't seem to have seen anywhere near the 80% usage rate it was getting in the previous UUPL and GSC UU tournament.
- Hypno and Slowking have both seen increased usage and win rates. I believe the players with the top records in UUPL found a lot of success stacking their teams with bulky Psychic types.
- Blastoise seems like one of the big winners, with many slower and bulkier builds favouring RestTalk Rapid Spin Surf Blastoise and using it to great effect. (I think I owe Jorgen an apology...)
- Piloswine also significantly improved in terms of win rate.
- Baton Pass was used a lot and did terribly (see Mr. Mime's move stats and Girafarig's win rate).
- Electric-types did horribly, except Magneton which did a lot better than it has been doing in previous tournaments.

I'm keen to hear the thoughts of the players, particularly alive and kaori who had 7-3 and 6-3 records respectively. Sinkyr and HSA also put up decent showings.

I hope to see a good turnout for the first ever GSC UU Cup!

Hm, this meta doesn't seem to have any notable fighting types at all. I guess the threat of bulky normals is pretty much absent or something? What about Hitmonlee, or Machoke? Were they delegated to NU or something?
Sorry for the late reply! The main problem with the fighting types is that the most of the viable and commonly seen Pokemon in the tier naturally counter them. Nidoqueen, Slowbro, Slowking, Hypno, Qwilfish, etc etc. In addition, all of them are outclassed by other Pokemon in the tier. Why have sweeper Hitmonlee when you can have Scyther instead? Why have some Curse boosting Machoke when you can have Granbull instead? The only Fighting type that I've had any sort of success with is Poliwrath with Return, Earthquake, Lovely Kiss and Belly Drum, and even then I don't use Fighting moves on it and I find it's outclassed by Poliwhirl, in most cases, anyway due to a lack of speed (it's slower than Qwilfish which can just Haze it).

Nominations:

Blastoise: B -> A-/A
Blastoise is a pretty good spinner in a tier where Pokemon with such a role are rare. It spins on many of the tier's best Pokemon like the Psychics, Nidoqueen (which it outspeeds too) and some passive Pokemon such as Jumpluff. With Rest and Sleep Talk, it can outlast the only viable Spiker in the tier, Qwilfish - which I have never seen run Rest as a result of its other moves simply being to useful to give up. It even PP stalls Qwilfish. Blastoise would love to have Roar, but it can't really afford to not run Rapid Spin. You could run both and have a Heal Bell user on the team such as Chansey so that you could forgo Sleep Talk. Blastoise works pretty well on stall teams more than any other archetype, and is also very good at simply PP stalling opponents. Blastoise's speed and STAB means it's a great Nidoqueen (among other things) counter.
Scyther: A+ -> S (or just the highest in A+ instead of Slowbro)
This is partially from my belief that Nidoqueen is not good enough to be on its own in S rank (though I do still think that it is the best Pokemon in the tier), but also I think that there's a distinction between Scyther and the other two Pokemon in A+. Being able to both pass and sweep pushes it just above Granbull and Slowbro for me. Baton Passing a +2 Attack for Granbull, Nidoqueen, Gligar and Sandslash, just to name a few, makes Scyther an incredible (perhaps even necessary) asset for offensive teams that can be put on more balanced teams also to help with breaking and cleaning up itself. I personally go with HP Ground, but HP Bug can also be used.

While Slowbro and Granbull are great Pokemon that offer a lot to a team, I think what Scyther has over them is that it its Speed allows it to Baton Pass on all of its bad matchups (besides Crobat) to a teammate that is able to counter these checks and break past its normal checks with the addition attack power. Granbull is kind of stopped in its tracks by Haunter and Magneton unless it runs HP Ground, but the Curse Sleep Talk set is what makes Granbull so good, unless you want to have Scyther pass +2 attack to a HP Ground, Return, Sleep Talk Granbull, and even for that you need this beast of a bug to do so. Slowbro can be pressured with aggressive predictions with Spikes down which limit it a lot.

This is not really a nomination; I just want to address the Nidoqueen factor.

I still think that Nidoqueen is the best Pokemon in the tier. However, I don't think that it is necessary on every single team which many people (even previously myself) seem to think. It is necessary on all teams other than stall and hyper offence. Hyper offence (speaking more about Explosion + BP) doesn't really need the Queen to function, and is just fine without it. While Nidoqueen is nice on these teams, there are many alternatives that are not necessarily less viable - and in some cases work better. Similarly with stall - it often feels difficult to fit Nidoqueen onto these types of teams as there are other options that you can take that suit the needs of the team more.

It seems as though the more that people experiment with GSC UU, more and more ways of dealing with Nidoqueen arise. Yes there are multiple sets that it can run, but they aren't too different in terms of functions, and with strings attached, such as LK and Moonlight being incompatible and at times 4MSS coming into play, it is somewhat limited. It is not by far the best Pokemon in the tier like Snorlax is in GSC OU, hence why I think that it shouldn't be on its own in S rank.

lol no apologies needed. i was super wrong about why people would wanna use 'toise anyway; it seems people are reacting to qwilfish as evidenced by the popularity of spin and the increase in 'toise occurring despite a drop in nido usage.

First some thoughts then a couple noms

Nidoqueen going down in usage is interesting to me since I still pretty firmly believe it's a necessity on every team that isn't stall or BP, and even on BP it's pretty scary to stare down stat-boosted queen.

Blastoise going up isn't too much of a surprise, I've been on the turtle train for a while. Extremely difficult to break and as people shy away from Electrics it only gets harder. Speaking of electrics, I've never been a big Electabuzz fan so seeing it's poor winrate isn't a huge surprise. It just doesn't do enough damage to compensate for its poor bulk. I still think Ampharos is quite solid, and Magneton is good but not being able to switch in to waters very easily and the rise of HP Ground Granbull make me so hesitant to use it.

Hypno is a really peculiar one since its movepool is just insanely huge and you can do all sorts of stuff from Screens to Resttalk SToss to TWave to Curse Body Slam all while switching into most of the tier. Hypno is one of the reasons I'm pretty high on HP Bug Scyther or Pinsir, big threat mon.

agree with dio's stoise nom and the scyther one so i wont rehash it

Rise

184604

Bellossom: A- --> A+
Little biased since it's my favorite Pokemon but Paralysis is so genuinely amazing in a tier with so many non-rest mons. Passable Grass STAB keeps it from being the dead weight Jumpluff can be, and it isn't useless vs BP either with access to Leech Seed. Pairs really nicely with mons that love Ice Beam-less queen since Bellossom is a super reliable switchin vs non-Fire Blast as long as you keep it healthy. Gligar as a partner comes to mind here.
184608

Omastar: B+--> A
HP Ground Bull getting more popular is great news for Omastar, as it's now the only true switchin that's able to beat Granbull like 95% of the time. It hits way harder than it should and has a lot of room to play with its moves.
184606

Piloswine: B --> A-
Ground types are so incredibly good in a tier with limited switchins, and it just so happens every switchin gets nailed by Ice Beam too. Has a number of viable sets like Resttalk, Roar, Curse, and I think I saw someone use Protect once? Cool stuff
184607

Flareon: C --> B-
Not exactly the most meaningful rise but Flareon certainly has the title of best Fire in the tier to me, and Growth passing can be pretty terrifying. Something that I think is already better than its rank but can also be played around with and could rise more.

Drop

184609
can we use this sprite on ps please holy shit it's great
Electabuzz: A--> A-/B+
I outined most of it above but tldr it doesn't do anywhere near enough damage to compensate for it's lack of bulk. Is another electric like Magneton that can't switch into the things it's supposed to beat
184610

Ampharos: A --> A-
I love my lighthouse boi but he just doesn't hold up well enough right now. I tried messing with it as a +Def+Speed recipient on BP but never got to actually pass those to it since I played like dogass. I still would call it the best Electric in the tier since it can actually switch into Water types and that's more than Magneton and Electabuzz can say.

I agree with most of Kaori's nominations. One that I disagree with is Bellossom to A+. While it is an excellent Pokemon and one that I personally use a lot, it is not on the same level of viability as the other Pokemon in that rank in my opinion. It is weak to status, its healing move only has 8 PP which can easily be taken advantage of, and it can be a bit too passive at times. While I agree with Electabuzz dropping, I don't think that it should fall any further than A-. Thief and Pursuit are excellent options that can help wall break a lot.

Some more nominations:

Arcanine: B- -> C+
There is a reason why it was not used once during UUPL. Arcanine is just a victim of the tier's best Pokemon naturally countering it. Fire is just not a good type to have in this tier both offensively and defensively. While its high BST means it can sit on some Pokemon with a Rest Talk Crunch set like Hypno; surprising Slowbro with Crunch and being another Scyther check, I don't ever think it's worth bringing, as most teams find ways of doing these things anyway. Flareon gets the niche of Growth Passing and Magmar (which I think is terrible in UU) has Thief and Counter to make use of. Yes, these Pokemon technically fill different roles but you'd never run them together, hence they do impact each other's viability.

Poliwhirl: C+ -> B-
I think that being a fast Belly Drummer with Lovely Kiss sets it above all the Pokemon in its current rank. Being able to outspeed Qwilfish so it doesn't get Hazed like its evolution is great. I think that's already contributing to its rank though. It's low bulk, weakness to status and difficulty in setting up a sweep prevent it from being any higher, but I think it should definitely lie in the same rank as Victreebel, as I find the two very similar.

GSC UU Cup signups are now up. If anyone's thinking about joining but doesn't have any teams, there are sample teams here. However, I'd encourage everyone to try building their own teams!

Sage doesn't seem to be around so I will take the liberty of updating the OP myself if there aren't many disagreements with the below:

Leave in S and at #1 for now. If its usage continues to stay around 60% or lower, maybe we can consider bringing it to the level of the other top tier Pokemon.

I think these should also stay as they are for now. While Scyther had slightly higher usage, Slowbro had the higher win rate, a trend it has maintained in all stats to date. Slowbro is ridiculously strong for something so tanky, and the Electric-types that threaten it the most are losing viability.

Qwilfish is a very convincing #2 in the usage stats and has remained that way. I think it should be near the top of A, if not #5. Nominating it to move up to #6 below Hypno for now.

Agreeing that it's too high. I suggest its new position be right above Kabutops.

While it is very strong, it is facing issues due to Omastar's massive increase in popularity. I am tentatively suggesting it drops to the bottom of A.

It pains me to move this above Jumpluff (which I firmly believe is better) but following the stats and nominations I'll move this to A, above Slowking.

Omastar has been performing for a while now, having ridiculously good stats in the GSC UU tournament and emerging as a mainstay in this year's UUPL. I suggest its new position be the top of A-.

I'm fine with dropping him to just above Kabutops, below Ampharos's new position on the back of his 28.5% win rate in UUPL. Thinking of making it the top of B+.

I want to be cautious with Mag due to its poor past performances, so I think below Haunter but above the other Electrics is the right spot for it for now.

This did terribly, only winning one of the five games it was used in. Drop to below Kadabra.

Blastoise clearly had quite an extraordinary rise to popularity in UUPL. I am thinking this should move up to above Haunter in A-, which will put it below Omastar and Jumpluff.

Another big underperformer. It seems like a lot of people see its potential as a mini-Vap, and it indeed does well against a decent portion of the metagame, but the ubiquity of Qwilfish and its mediocre defensive utility is really ruining it. Suggesting this moves to top of B.

Had a reasonably strong showing at 60% WR, recommending just above Kadabra in B+.

Chansey performed quite well this UUPL, with a departure from the usual Curse sets to more varied sets like Counter, Ice Beam, and Present. Given its strong results I suggest moving it up to just below Gyarados.

So I don't really get why this thing is doing so well considering all the Blastoise, Slowbro, and Slowking, but I suppose a rise to the top of B+ looks appropriate based on the stats. A 66% win rate is pretty good and it was also used 12 times. A big improvement on its previous mediocre performances.

I'm happy to move this into C+, although hesitant to move it higher when it was only used once and is shut down so hard by so many common Pokemon. It definitely suffers from the same issues as Politoed, and has even worse defensive utility and a lot more bad matchups. Should be very hit or miss, and more often miss.

Victreebel did well this UUPL, whereas Girafarig and Electrode did very poorly. Victreebel to move above Lanturn in B, and Girafarig and Electrode to fall to B-, below Pikachu. As for Quagsire, I am thinking of redefining the cutoff for B such that it appears right below Politoed in it instead of in B+.

Crobat only won one out of the four games it was used. Magmar went 0-1 and the metagame changes do not favour it at all. Graveler and Shuckle both won the games they appeared in. Crobat down to C+, above Magmar, and Graveler and Shuckle to remain top of C+.

As for Arcanine and Poliwhirl, I am not too convinced on these since neither were used in UUPL. I also think that Arcanine has more utility defensively than you are giving it credit for, considering it has pretty good defensive stats all around and takes hits from Electric-types and Psychic-types neutrally. Poliwhirl I am going to put above the two that dropped down further into C+ (Crobat and Magmar) for now.

I'll also redefine the cutoff of C+ / C at Flareon / Wigglytuff and C / C- at Pineco / Sudowoodo.

If all of the above changes were implemented, this is what the changelist would look like:
01. Nidoqueen = (1 -> 1, S -> S)
02. Slowbro = (2 -> 2, A+ -> A+)
03. Scyther = (3 -> 3, A+ -> A+)

I remember when Steelix was something like 2/3 win rate being really underused in SPL a few years back, then next year it was hot garbage. Don't take win rates as gospel when you're only talking double-digit number of games at best.

I agree with this but unfortunately there aren't many opportunities to get high quality stats for old gen lower tiers, and UUPL tends to be the best representation of the metagame that we have.

Is there anything I am proposing that you think is an overreaction?

I haven't followed this thread much nor the metagame itself, so I can't say much about your rankings specifically. I'm just proposing caution around placing too much stock into win rates. They don't mean much in this game anyway and especially not at that sample size. At best, they're a tool that gets you to reconsider mons that are experiencing wildly more or less success than originally expected, like Piloswine as pointed out, and more closely analyze why that might be the case.

sorry if some of these moves dont make sense i wasnt keeping super close track of all the posisiton swaps.

Nidoqueen Scyther Granbull Slowbro

Over the course of PL I started to think that Granbull was actually the best mon in the tier. I attribute this to 1) the curse set's strength in every match up not vs haunter, omastar, or magneton and 2) heal bell set's incredible safety. I think his strength isn’t reflected as well because we are in the middle of a meta shift focused around spikes control and omastar is thriving, but I also think once it settles and people find more consistent answers to https://pokepast.es/2361e78cbd20be08 granbulls power will really show. That said, I wouldn’t put it above nido in VR until its been proven, I think 2nd at the top of A+ is right.

I feel slowbros taken a slight hit because his role overlaps a bit with other mons. Team are looking for a lot of things right now, qwil and/or blast for spikes control, hypno to block elec/psychic coverage, oma for bull, other curses, and dodrio, its hard to fit bro on a team when preparing for all these things. It also doesn’t help that the best physical offense this tier has to offer (aside from belly drum spam) is probably screen/twave + scyther + pinsir type teams and the bug weakness really rears its head, not good to have on your bulky water. Of course slowbro is still terrific but I think it should be 4th instead of 2nd.

Overall shuffling the top 4 would be nitpicks and just going by win % is fine too.

Qwilfish - I was really surprised to see qwils stats not include curse since it matches up so well vs blastoise teams, and I foresee curse qwil putting blast in its place over the course of uu cup. 6th sounds right, if not 5th.

Electrics - Shifting buzz and amph down looks good, but mag feels out of place above amph. I would leave mag where it is and have amph be below haunter instead, then if amph has another poor showing move it down further.

Gyarados - This mon is way too high and should be bottom of B at best, I would probably move it to below crobat.

Kadabra - Just to get this out of the way kadabra should at least be bottom or 2nd to bottom of B+ if not in B above lanturn. This is mostly due to its lack of bulk and mime just having so many more options.

Grasses - I think both of them are fine where they are. Bell I guess is a little less susceptible to status but I wouldn’t move it past to bottom of A.

Omastar - Deserves a place right by slowking imo, hes particularly strong right now but has found consistent usage as a defensive backbone going back to the tour Earthworm hosted last year.

Sandslash - Stats look grim but slash is still one of the best breakers for physical offense teams, 1 shotting oma at +2 and can force huge trades on otherwise resilient mons like slowbro and blastoise. Also beats most other set up mons 1 on 1. That said, your recommendation is still a pretty good placement for him but I would probably place him at B+ below wherever chansey/pilo/pinsir land.

Blastoise - Above haunter sounds good. Even if the spikes control meta cools down blast is still probably the most consistence answer to set up (BP or bug spam) in the tier with roar.

Politoed - I consider politoed to be like an A tier mon, but it seems like the number don’t agree with me. If no one else thinks its even close to there I wont try to push for it but I would highly recommend against going below B+, I would say putting it right around wherever sandslash lands is appropriate.

Chansey and Piloswine - I feel like these two have earned their spots as bottom of A- mons, at least pilo. But top of B+ is basically the same so its just a preference of how you want to organize it, I think the assessment of their power level is correct.

Pinsir - If gyara and kadabra are moved down and pilo and chansey are move up pinsir could probably just keep its current spot and be fine, but if you really think kadabra and gyara deserve to be B+ pinsir should be above them in upper B+ trailing pilo and chansey.

Electrode - I wouldn’t drop this, electrodes stat probably have to do more with anti/choolio picking cheese 7/8 weeks and being super predictable than electrode being bad. Same for giraf.

Shuckle - Shuckle is quite a bit stronger than the other mons in C+. I think its real power level is probably somewhere in low B+ but I’d say a jump like that it too much. I think the bottom of B above electrode is probably a safe move (if you don’t move elec). at the very least, this things better than pikachu.

To give some perspective on why I used shuckle and what I think its potential is, I was trying to use chansey as a cleric on offense but it left me too open to mons that switch in freely to chansey. Chansey was doing its job as a cleric/special wall but it was almost impossible to get my next mon in. I found out I could consolidate a 3 mon defensive core into just shuckle + chansey, and Its much easier to pivot around the things that force shuckle out than the things that force chansey out.

Chansey on offense consolidates the role of a screens/twave hypno (resistance to elec/psychic coverage) while giving you cleric support and a little bp resistance since present can 1 shot some of the common passers, and shuckle make your chansey nearly unpunishable ( something like kabutops is still threatening). it probably doesn’t do much to help the public perception of GSC UU but I think chansey+shuckle is a viable balance / BO option that can give teams the room to break through chansey/pilo/oma stalls.

Thanks very much for your input, I have responded below and will make further adjustments based on your post.

sorry if some of these moves dont make sense i wasnt keeping super close track of all the posisiton swaps.

I don't agree with this. While Granbull is very good, it has major limitations in terms of ways to get past Omastar, and even HP Ground for Haunter/Magneton comes at a major HP cost which makes it far more likely to be 3HKOed by numerous threats. The Pokemon it would be overtaking are both excellent and are much less limited in terms of options to get around checks.
I had written up a rebuttal to this but having thought about the effect Blastoise is having on the meta, I can now see it as realistic competition for the gluemon slot. Slowbro is still the better Pokemon but given this competition, I will drop it to 3rd.
Electrics - Shifting buzz and amph down looks good, but mag feels out of place above amph. I would leave mag where it is and have amph be below haunter instead, then if amph has another poor showing move it down further.
Will change this, but would not be surprised to see Mag continue to outperform Amph.
Gyarados - This mon is way too high and should be bottom of B at best, I would probably move it to below crobat.
I think you're severely underrating Gyara here. It has solid typing and advantages over many of the top Pokemon in the meta, and it won both games it was used in in UUPL.
Kadabra - Just to get this out of the way kadabra should at least be bottom or 2nd to bottom of B+ if not in B above lanturn. This is mostly due to its lack of bulk and mime just having so many more options.
I'm fine with dropping it to just above Victreebel's new position due to its lack of bulk and vulnerability to status.
Omastar - Deserves a place right by slowking imo, hes particularly strong right now but has found consistent usage as a defensive backbone going back to the tour Earthworm hosted last year.
I will move it above Dodrio.
Politoed - I consider politoed to be like an A tier mon, but it seems like the number don’t agree with me. If no one else thinks its even close to there I wont try to push for it but I would highly recommend against going below B+, I would say putting it right around wherever sandslash lands is appropriate.
While I agree it has potential, the stats simply don't support it retaining a high ranking.
Pinsir - If gyara and kadabra are moved down and pilo and chansey are move up pinsir could probably just keep its current spot and be fine, but if you really think kadabra and gyara deserve to be B+ pinsir should be above them in upper B+ trailing pilo and chansey.
I've moved Kadabra down, but as I mentioned above I'm inclined not to drop Gyara at present.
Electrode - I wouldn’t drop this, electrodes stat probably have to do more with anti/choolio picking cheese 7/8 weeks and being super predictable than electrode being bad. Same for giraf.
I am fine with keeping them where they are on this basis.

Having used and faced Shuckle a considerable amount, I don't think it is that good in the meta (things may change with Blastoise around though). There are numerous ways to exploit its passivity that need to be addressed reliably, and I don't think there are reliable options to do so. Pikachu I think you are underestimating, although more Chansey being around is a big pain. I want to wait on this one for more evidence.

So the change list for this VR update is as follows:
01. Nidoqueen = (1 -> 1, S -> S)
02. Scyther +1 (3 -> 2, A+ -> A+)

I'll update the OP soon.

I feel like Kingdra should drop down to UU. Doesn't seem too OP though it'd probably be good thanks to its typing. Offensively, however, it isn't amazing from what I've seen

We tried Kingdra in Pokemon Online's UU tier almost 10 years ago. It wasn't good. It just dominated everything defensively. That said, UU is a lot more well-explored and played with much tankier things nowadays than it was then. Maybe it could be re-introduced without too many problems? You'd have to really sell me on such an experiment though, as my reasonably well-informed prior belief is that it would be no fun.

I don't really mean to be rude but I have two things to say about this kingdra thing.

1. Kingdra nor any other UUBL mon is currently allowed to be resuspected due to the decision on old gens lower tiers made in July of last year, which states that these tiers are effectively locked and cannot have any new bans or unbans, or really any new tiering changes in general. so unless Hogg decides to revoke this decision for some reason, the chance of Kingdra or any UUBL mon getting resuspected is 0, no matter how much I would like some UUBL mons to be looked at, since the way UUBL was decided was extremely archaic.

2. I'm not sure if this point actually matters because I could totally be wrong, but this doesn't seem relevant to this thread at all. This thread is meant for the discussion of the Viability Rankings of GSC UU, and this conversation has nothing to do with that.

It's extremely relevant. Kingdra is currently not viable in UU because it is banned. :blobwizard:

If it were unbanned, we would then want to discuss just how viable it is. Its existence would also alter the viability of everything else currently in the metagame.

As Oldamar said, GSC UU is definitely locked for the foreseeable future. That said, we are free to experiment with "what if" metagames in places like RoA Tour Nights if hosts are willing to set up the tours.

I don't mind slight tangents in this thread as long as they aren't derailing proper standard UU discussion. If that were the case we could make the posts into their own thread or move them into SQSA.

I’ve played this metagame quite a bit in the last year so I’ll give a few nominations

Scyther and Slowbro move from A+ to S-

This is likely controversial but I believe these two to be worthy of being S- rank.Of course they don’t stand up to Nidoqueen who should be in a rank on its so S- fits this.

:scyther:
Scyther is incredibly dangerous throughout any game it’s in.It can always make a comeback if it manages to get a Swords Dance off against something it scares out such as Bellossom or Hypno.Not to mention it can Baton Pass a Swords Dance to something like Granbull

:Slowbro:

Slowbro in my opinion should go above Scyther as number two.Slowbro walls so many Pokémon it’s incredible.Hypno,Non HP Bug Scyther,Opposing Slowbro,Slowking are all common Pokémon who struggle to do anything to Slowbro and Slowbro can fit on quite a few teams

Girafarig move from B- to B+

Girafarig is the most criminally underrated Pokémon in all of GSC UU.While it’s true it’s bulk is not good and it’s speed can be middling,it is such a threat to so many teams.It beats Nidoqueen and Qwilfish h with Psychic,Slowbro and Gyrados with Thunder,Slowking,Mr.Mime and Hypno with Shadow Ball and the last move can be what ever you want.Girafarig is very good with paralysis support too,as Pokémon that might beat it in the 1v1 such as Scyther can’t beat it now.Another role Girafarig can play is a Agility Passer,passing an Agility to Curse Granbull is a potentially game ending play in the late game

Qwilfish move from A to A+

Qwilfish’s name as the best spiker in the tier makes me believe A+ is where it should go.Spikes in this metagame allow Pokémon like Electabuzz become more dangerous,As Nidoqueen can not reliably switch into Electabuzz Psychic with Spikes down at all.In addition Qwilfish’s Sludge Bomb is a respectable attack allowing it to target physically frailer Pokémon such as Hypno.Haze is also great as backup check to Pinsir,Scyther and Curse Granbull
