[New Moves]

Spirit Break:
80 Base Power Fairy Physical Move - 100% chance to lower SpA by one stage
False Surrender: 80 Base Power Dark Physical Move - This move does not check accuracy

[Pros]

- Prankster is still an excellent ability and this pokemon has a wide variety of moves to use, from setting up itself with prankster Bulk Up to setting up its teammates with Prankster screens, to stopping the opponent with Prankster Taunt and Thunder Wave. This realistically means that this pokemon should last at least 1 turn given its potential supporting moves.
- The typing is really interesting offensively, fairy especially has always traditionally and likely still will be an excellent all around type whilst Dark is probably quite solid with all the ghosts running around.
- Its movepool is just excellent and its new move Spirit Break looks really annoying to play against.

[Cons]

- Grimmsnarl is not squishy but it definitely isn't bulky either with 95/65/75 defences, it will have to rely on its movepool to shore up its defences (or lower the opponents offence) as it will naturally be 2HKOed by a lot of attacks.
- Given it has 125 attack, it would really want to use that in some way, but prankster and its supporting movepool really makes you want to use stuff like screens, Twave etc. The pokemon really does pull in different directions.

[Dynamaxing Potential]
- I think this pokemon will end up dynamaxing based on the circumstance and moveset rather than be used as a primary dynamaxer. A support/disrupter type set is more likely to not use dynamax, whereas perhaps a bulk up set may end up dynamaxing.

[Potential Movesets]

Grimmsnarl @ Light Clay
Ability: Prankster
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Taunt / Thunder Wave
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Thunder Wave / Spirit Break

I think this looks to be an interesting looking set for hyper offence teams. Dual Screens allows pokemon like Gyarados to set up multiple times before Dynamaxing or allowing monsters like Darmanitan multiple attacks off. Prankster Taunt/Twave stops opposing setup such as Hippowdon stealth rock/yawn spam. Spirit Break is essentially for opposing dark types that you cant taunt like Hydreigon.

Grimmsnarl @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk
Brave Nature
- Bulk Up
- Spirit Break
- Body Press
- Darkest Lariat / Sucker Punch

Some sort of bulk up set probably also works very well, perhaps you could run rest + sleep talk + bulk up and have mono darkest lariat/spirit break as an option. It would probably be a good stallbreaker. It can also Bulk up alongside setup sweepers like Gyarados DD for example.

On the dual screens set, you should probably add Foul Play as an option to punish set up sweepers. You may also want to add that its typing for defensively checking Dragapault, with the only other option being Bisharp.

On Bulk Up, run Drain Punch over Body Press.

I'm having a lot of success with this on the ladder with the following set:

Grimmsnarl (M) @ Leftovers / Iapapa Berry
Ability: Prankster
Level: 50
EVs: 236 HP / 12 Atk / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Careful Nature
- Darkest Lariat / Spirit Break
- Taunt
- Substitute
- Thunder Wave

Thunder Wave is probably Grimmsnarl's best move at the moment, ending problematic sweeps before they begin and helping to support attackers like Dracovish and Braviary. Thunder Wave also helps manage all of the Dragapults you'll be switching Grimmsnarl in to, as well as their switch-ins.

Substitute is invaluable for stalling enemy Dynamax, warding off wayward Will-O-Wisps from Rotoms that switch in to you, and just generally easing prediction. I found myself clicking this button much more often than I expected. Taunt helps keep assorted walls in their place, and also keeps Bulk Up users like enemy Braviary in place.

I'm not sure which STAB I prefer yet. Darkest Lariat helps cut through things like Cotton Guard, but Grimmsnarl can't stay in on Max Steelspike users to ignore their Defense boosts. Spirit Break helps Grimmsnarl 1v1 Rotom, Toxapex, and the like, but doesn't do much to any of Grimm's most common switch-ins.

The EVs don't take any particular hits--I just wanted to speed creep other Grimmsnarl. Someone will probably find a better spread.

2 things I've caught people out with online.

95 SpA is very usable at +2 with Prankster Nasty Plot. Fairy/Dark giving you neutral coverage on everything and Max Darkness lowering Sp Def helps as well if you haven't given away that it's a special set yet.

Grimmsnarl also gets priority Power Swap allowing you to come in and halt a set up or D-Max sweep in it's tracks by stealing their setup.

This mon feels like a bit of a Swiss Army knife as it can be built to do a variety of things and you can always catch folks out with his utility.

yup, if you dont have this guy on your team in 3v3s you're trolling or have a very specific gimmick strat. He has 50 different ways to stall/annoy/stop dynamaxers and the ability to sweep/setup on people expecting utility. Can set up screens and stop other utility with priority taunt as well. he needs 16 slots for his movepool.

Here's a set I've used on a few teams. It's certainly an annoyance to the opponent, especially if they're using a baton pass or trick room team.

Grimmsnarl (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Prankster
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Taunt
- Sucker Punch / Darkest Lariat
- Spirit Break

Thunder Wave spreads decently reliable paralysis (that 90% accuracy does hurt sometimes) that can put me in a position to set up or wallbreak to win a game.

Taunt shuts down a variety of annoying status moves including things like hazards, status, leech seed, and screens.

Darkest Lariat is my preferred dark-type attack since the extra base power does make a big difference in a lot of situations, but I can somewhat understand how sucker punch could also be an option.

Spirit Break break is very useful against special attackers since the drop in special attack can either force the oppponent to switch or give Grimmsnarl more turns to attack before it inevitably dies. If my opponent opts to stay in and keep attacking, once Grimmsnarl gets knocked out I can throw out a set up sweeper like Gyarados and get off a free set up move without worrying about taking too much damage.
