Gen VII: Pokemon Sun and Moon Discussion MKII

As much as I don't want to believe the Chinese "leaks" (except Rowlet's 'cause ghat damn), sometimes Gamefreak likes to make gym leaders and important trainers look similar to the pokemon they raise.

And this guy seems to be borrowing design elements from a certain leak. I think you know which one.

Thankfully he is supposed to be a Marowak trainer, and I could easily be looking at a different pokemon inspiration like Salandit's evolution for example. Or he could be designed not to be reminiscent of any pokemon at all. Here's hoping.

Other than that, he makes me feel like doing a billion crunches. Jeebus.

But then, I assume Exeggcute doesn't have Alolan form. What will happen if one evolves Exeggcute transferred from XYORAS? Hmm....

... maybe regular Exeggutor if Alola's + mark influences it.
That's something that I've been wondering about myself. We know Vulpix and Sandshrew have Alolian forms, but what about Exeggcute?

Isnt that where the poop comes out of!? :v4:
I'm pretty sure that most animals don't poop through their tails. Altough, considering some of the strange design choices, I wouldn't be very surprised.
I just thought of something

What if the Z moves are guaranteed OHKO moves?

Fuck
Bulky play styles would take a hit (then again, what's new?). It's not strange for defensive teams fall apart when one of the team members is taken out.
I wonder what its menu Sprite will look like. Skinny Pokemon like Porygon-Z get scrunched. This will be very interesting.

I can't wait to see what else they do considering the other landscapes on Alola's map. The gym system's replacement is welcomed (seriously the gen VI gyms weren't memorable at all). I'm a little disappointed that FWG + electric are the only gyms this time especially since a water type major trainer has been a thing every generation if you count Misty in Gold and Silver. Those four types are running low on originality in trainer designs. It would have been nice to see some lesser shown types like Poison or Dark.

Also I admit that I was wrong about the leaks. Congratulations Cresselia~~ !!!

Well it's implied that those four are just for one island's big kahuna, so we could potentially have 16 trial leaders each with a different type. Maybe.

One thing I noticed is that the trial leaders are the same types as the revealed Z-attacks. Hmmm... what could that mean? ;)

Oh man, you're right. The main website never actually says "only one trial leader per island". It's looking quite likely that there will be roughly 4 trials per island, each with their own trial leader and totem pokemon, then each island has a big kahuna who rules them all. I was under the assumption that the game would be somewhat disappointingly short with only 4 leaders. But it doesn't make sense to reveal ALL the not-gym leaders at first, does it? There will probably be a lot more trial leaders. My hype for this game can only get so hard.

edit: "all of the island’s trials" uh yeah basically confirmed

We don't know what the trial leaders do aside of those quests. Maybe we will battle them after each quest, so who knows if there'll be Dark specialist trial leader? At least that's the closest thing as of now....

... hopefully.
But it isn't a Gym.
Is it bad I kind of never want a Dark gym to exist? It kind of like having a unicorn or two around :P (then again, I am also the person that wants Litten to become fire/fighting)
It is bad, go into the corner and think about what you did!

to all the people hypothesising how Z crystals are given to a pokemon, the video itself shows that the crystal is held by the trainer and the Z move must be the same type as the pokemon its used on. This means you dont have to worry about random coverage, its basically one big STAB attack, it wont remove the need for STABs or coverage or anything like that. Unless its 250 BP i dont see it being an issue.

Not thrilled about the direction Game Freak is going with here. Alternate forms and varieties of existing pokemon is fine and good...except these really suck.
Exeggutor. An already ugly pokemon...made uglier. And what's with the randomly added dragon type? A slow pokemon 4x weak to ice and 2x weak to U-turn and pursuit? Straight into NU with your cousin.
Ninetails. At best it looks about as good design wise as the original. Some would say worse. I would be one of them. Ice/fairy is arguably only on par defensively with mono fire along with a quad weakness to steel and no you aren't switching into those U-turns being weak to stealth rock and all. It's saving grace could be a hidden ability in the form of snow warning, but that remains to be seen.
Sandslash is apparently even slower than the regular one with a much worse defensive typing. 4x weak to fire and fighting is just...no. Again it's saving grace could be the possibility of hidden ability that doubles speed in hail, but one can only hope.
My real problem though is doing away with gyms and the traditional formula. One of the reasons why pokemon is so successful and repayable is due to it's simple but compelling design. Why go the route of the many games that imitate pokemon? The only reason the imitators don't copy the tried and tested formula of the original completely is because they fear to be labelled a blatant ripoff and because they know they could never beat game freak at it's own game regardless. Although some pokemon games have not been as good as others, none have been truly awful, and it's simple but effective formula has led me to replay them many times over each in a different way, which is much more than can be said about it's imitators and their 'fresh' approach. The law of diminishing returns looms large over this one...

Not sure if this counts as wishlisting since it's not totally baseless, but if it is true that we're not doing Gyms (which seems very likely at this point) and there's evidence to suggest HMs have been removed, then what else has Game Freak switched up? I can't remember what those old leaks said about the evil team, but it wouldn't totally surprise me if that series mainstay was also ditched for this Generation. It'd be very interesting to see how the conflict would be presented without the team, or possibly no antagonist at all.

I'm really liking these shake-ups to the formula, because the franchise really needs it after 20 years of same-old-same-old.

We don't know Exeggutor-A's stats yet, plus you're honestly coming up with some flimsy excuses. A number of very viable OU Pokémon have a double Ice weaknesses, and Exeggutor-A's less weak to U-turn and Pursuit than the standard because it's no longer part Psychic.

The only thing I'm worried about is that rumor that says Gen 1 Pokemon transferred from R/B/Y keep their Gen 1 types.

Plz no.

Doesn't say anything about the move matching the 'mon.

Yeah my bad not weak to pursuit anymore. Still doesn't sound much better so far though.

So ya, am I the only one who's worried about the Chinese leak that says that Pokemon from Gen 1 will have their Gen 1 types when transferred to Gen 7?

I really don't enjoy the idea of having to guess what type the Clefable I'm fighting online will be.
