BDSP Dragonite

[OVERVIEW]

Dragonite, thanks to its high attack, good typing, Multiscale, and large movepool, is a powerful wallbreaker and sweeper. Its typing provides it with excellent defensive utility, lending it resistances to common attacking types like Fire, Fighting, and Grass making it a solid answer to threats like Breloom or Infernape. Furthermore, Extreme Speed and Dragon Dance make Dragonite a powerful cleaner in the late game. Though Dragonite is able to beat most of its checks thanks to Earthquake and Fire Punch, its weaknesses to Stealth Rock and status as well as reliance on prediction hampers its longevity and effectiveness throughout the game. Furthermore, Dragonite is susceptible to being revenge killed by faster threats like Latias or Weavile and is walled by Clefable. Last, it suffers from the ubiquity of other, faster Dragon-type Pokemon like Garchomp and Latias.

move 3: Extreme Speed
move 4: Fire Punch / Dragon Claw
Item: Choice Band
Ability: Multiscale
Nature: Adamant / Jolly

[SET COMMENTS]

Outrage is Dragonite’s most powerful STAB move, 2HKOing common physically bulky Pokemon like Tangrowth, Slowbro and Gliscor. As Outrage locks Dragonite into the move for multiple turns, Earthquake is a good mid-ground option because it hits Heatran and Jirachi super effectively while hitting Scizor and Clefable neutrally. Extreme Speed is a powerful tool that can to clean up or revenge kill weakened faster pokemon like Starmie or Latias while circumventing Ice Shard from Weavile and Mamoswine. Fire Punch allows Dragonite to OHKO Scizor, while Dragon Claw it a secondary STAB option that avoids Outrage's downsides. Iron Tail is also an option to 2HKO Clefable but has very limited application outside of this matchup in addition to its bad accuracy. An Adamant nature helps Dragonite hit as hard as possible while a Jolly nature can be used to outspeed Adamant Lucario and faster Gliscor variants.

Choice Band Dragonite fits with most offensive teams that appreciate its wallbreaking and cleaning prowess as well as its defensive utility, especially since it doesn’t need much support to function. Dragonite likes to have Magnezone or Heatran for a partner as they both put pressure on Steel- and Fairy-types, while Dragonite is able to switch into opposing Ground-, Fighting- and Fire-type moves from Infernape or Gliscor. In addition, Dragonite pairs well with fellow Dragon-types like Latias and Garchomp that share the same checks and counters, allowing them to work together to break through them. Dragonite benefits from Stealth Rock setters such as Heatran or Jirachi ; the latter also provides Doom Desire, which helps Dragonite to break would-be checks like Clefable. Alongside it, a Defogger or a spinner such as Gliscor, Scizor or Starmie prevents Dragonite from being worn down too quickly. Finally, Dragonite combines well with other wallbreakers like Infernape, Lucario and Breloom that appreciate Dragonite's ability to weaken shared checks like Gliscor, while Dragonite can take advantage of their ability to pressure Pokemon like Latias, Clefable and Steel-types to use Outrage more easily.

[SET]

move 2: Outrage

move 4: Extreme Speed

Ability: Multiscale

[SET COMMENTS]

Dragon Dance Dragonite is a sweeper that trades off immediate power for better sweeping potential. One Dragon Dance allows Dragonite to outspeed many common foes such as Garchomp and Latias. Outrage is the STAB move of choice for its high power and neutral coverage. Earthquake allows Dragonite to clear through Steel-types such as Heatran or Jirachi, while Extreme Speed ensures Dragonite can punish potential revenge killers such as Choice Scarf Latias or Weavile. Lum Berry prevents Dragonite from burn or paralysis and cures Outrage-induced confusion that would otherwise make its sweep uncertain. As an other option, Yache Berry, in combination with Multiscale, gives Dragonite opportunities to set up on Pokemon running Ice-type attacks such as Starmie and Slowbro in a pinch while preventing Mamoswine and Weavile from revenge killing Dragonite in case its Multiscale gets broken and it cannot setup enough.

Dragon Dance Dragonite requires a lot of support to realize its full potential. Keeping the field free of Stealth Rock is mandatory to preserve Multiscale for as long as possible. Teammates like Gliscor or Starmie can remove entry hazards, while Taunt users like Azelf or lead Skarmory can prevent the opponent from getting Stealth Rock up in the first place. In addition, Azelf can set up dual screens or Stealth Rock while Skarmory can set both Stealth Rock and Spikes. Setting up Stealth Rock is essential, as it enables Dragonite to OHKO Weavile most of the time and 2HKO Utility Togekiss with Extreme Speed after one boost. Due to the absence of Fire Punch, Magnezone is particularly valuable as it traps defensive Skarmory and prevents it from phasing Dragonite with Whirlwind. More generally, Lucario and Nidoking are powerful wallbreakers that are able to effectively damage Fairy- and Steel-types such as Scizor and Unaware Clefable that would otherwise prevent Dragonite from sweeping. Also, Pokemon such as Latias and Alakazam like Dragonite's ability to severely damage shared checks like Weavile and Scizor for their own sweeping attempt.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Dragonite with its fantastic bulk can also provide a good amount of utility for its teammates. As a Defogger, it beats common entry hazard setters like Heatran, Skarmory and Gliscor in addition to being a very solid check to both Infernape and Breloom thanks to its combination of Ice Beam, Fire Blast, and Earthquake, while Roost lets Dragonite recover Multiscale and increases Dragonite's longevity considerably. However, its weakness to Stealth Rock and Ice-type moves as well as its over reliance on Multiscale is very detrimental to the effectiveness of any defensive set.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fairy-types** : Fairy-type Pokemon such as Clefable and Togekiss are able to switch into Dragonite in most scenarios and deter it from using its Dragon-type STAB moves. Togekiss is also immune to Earthquake, whereas Unaware Clefable stops any sweeping attempts.

**Ice-types and Ice-type Coverage** : Life Orb Mamoswine and Choice Band Weavile are able to OHKO Dragonite with Icicle Crash through Multiscale and with Ice Shard if Multiscale is broken. However, neither of them are able to switch into Dragonite and Extreme Speed has higher priority than Ice Shard, so they have to act with caution.

**Steel-types** : Steel-type Pokemon such as Scizor, Jirachi, Skarmory and Heatran prevent Dragonite from using its most powerful STAB move : Outrage. Heatran can even take advantage of Outrage to try to fish a Flame Body burn. However, they are all vulnerable to Dragonite's coverage moves like Earthquake and Fire Punch.

**Stealth Rock** : Much of Dragonite's bulk comes from Multiscale. In addition to being weak to Stealth Rock, the entry hazard breaks Multiscale effectively deterring Dragonite from entering the field.

**Rotom-Wash** : Rotom-W can cripple Dragonite if it doesn't use Lum Berry with Will-O-Wisp or Thunder Wave while also being immune to Earthquake. However, if Dragonite is locked into Outrage, Rotom-W cannot effectively cripple it, as Dragonite is still able to 2HKO Rotom-W through burn.

**Revenge Killers**: Using Outrage lets threats like Mamoswine, Azumarill, and Latias easily revenge kill Dragonite.

[OVERVIEW]

Dragonite is one the most powerful Pokemon in BDSP OU thanks to the combination of its above-average stats, Dragon typing, Multiscale and large movepool high attack, good defensive and offensive typing, access to Multiscale, and large movepool. Together, Dragonite becomes is one of the most relevant wallbreakers and sweepers in the metagame. Dragon- provides a great neutral coverage and defensive utility while controlling highly relevant threats like Breloom or Infernape in combination of its Flying-type Its typing provides it with excellent defensive utility, lending it resistances to common attacking types like Fire, Fighting, and Grass. Access to Extreme Speed and Dragon Dance make Dragonite a powerful cleaner in the late game. If Though Dragonite is able to beat most of its checks thanks to Earthquake and Fire Punch, its weaknesses in Stealth Rock and status as well as being predictable hinder its longevity and prowess throughout the game. Furthermore, Dragonite is susceptible to being revenge killed by faster threats like Latios or Weavile and is walled by Clefable. Last, it suffers from the concurrence ubiquity of other, faster Dragon-type Pokemons like Garchomp and Latios. (honestly the info here is good, just flatly poorly written. only real QC note is that you should mention that chomp and lati are faster than it, as its Speed can really hold it back in some matchups.)

[SET COMMENTS]

Choice Band improves Dragonite's immediate power to the cost of being locked into its move. (this is unnecessary info) Outrage is Dragonite’s most powerful STAB move that has almost no resistance in the metagame granting 2HKO against 2HKOes common physically bulky Pokemon like Tangrowth, Slowbro, or and Gliscor. Earthquake deals with Steel-types that prevent Dragonite to spam its STAB move whereas Extreme Speed is the most powerful way to clean up and revenge kill, outprioritizing dangerous threats like Weavile or Mamoswine. (Earthquake is not to deal with Steel-types insomuch as it is explicitly for Heatran. Earthquake is also just a really good mid-ground move to lock into, as Outrage can cause Dragonite to get revenge killed and Earthquake is decently strong. As for Extreme Speed, I would also mention that it can clean against weakened, faster foes like Latios and Starmie) As a fourth move, Fire Punch allows Dragonite to OHKO Scizor while Dragon Claw prevents Dragonite from being locked for multiple turns unlike Outrage. Iron Tail is also an option to 2HKO Clefable but has very limited other applications in addition of being unreliable to its bad accuracy. Thanks to Multiscale and its good overall bulk, Dragonite is able to switch into almost any Pokemon like Heatran generating momentum for its team. Adamant nature helps Dragonite to fulfill its roles, however Jolly nature allows Dragonite to outspeed Adamant Lucario and faster Gliscor hit as hard as possible, while a Jolly nature can be used to outspeed Adamant Lucario and faster Gliscor variants.

Choice Band Dragonite fits with most offensive teams that like its wallbreaking and cleaning prowess as well as its defensive utility especially since it doesn’t need much support to function. Nonetheless, Choice Band Dragonite likes to have Magnezone or Heatran as a partner that can both put pressure on Steel and Fairy types while Dragonite is able to switch into opposing Ground-, Fighting- and Fire-type moves. In additon, Dragonite pairs well with its Dragon fellows Latios and Garchomp that share the same checks and counters. Dragonite benefits from any Stealth Rock user such as Heatran or Jirachi, the latter also providing Doom Desire, that helps Dragonite to break and sweep. A Defogger or a Spinner such as Gliscor, Scizor, or Starmie is highly beneficial as well, as they maximize Dragonite's longevity almost required, as they can keep Dragonite's Multiscale intact. I would make mention of pairing Dragonite with other wallbreakers like Infernape, Breloom, and Lucario. Infernape usefully pressures Steel-types, particularly Skarmory, Breloom can put faster foes like Latios to sleep, and Lucario can beat Clefable. All of these mons appreciate the heavy damage Dragonite deals to Gliscor with Outrage.

Dragon Dance Dragonite is a sweeper that trades off immediate power for a better late game better sweeping potential. One Dragon Dance grants the Attack and Speed boost that Dragonites needs to reliably sweep. (unnecessary) Outrage is the STAB move of choice for its high power and neutral coverage. Earthquake allows Dragonite to clear the path of Steel types such as Heatran or Jirachi while Extreme Speed ensures Dragonite to outprioritize potential revenge killers such as Scarf Latias or Choice Band Weavile. Lum Berry prevents Dragonite from burn or paralysis and cures Outrage-induced confusion. As an other option, Leftovers improves Dragonite's longevity and setup opportunities. (honestly, no. DD Dnite plays too fast for leftovers to make any meaningful difference, so all in all they are pretty useless. replace this with a sentence about Yache Berry instead, as it can give Dragonite the chance to set up on weaker Ice-type attacks like Starmie's Ice Beam. The giving EVs alongside Adamant nature increase Dragonite's sweeping ability, and Multiscale guarantees setup attempt. (unnecessary)

Dragon Dance Dragonite requires a lot of support to use its full potential. Keeping the field free from Stealth Rock is mandatory to preserve Multiscale as long as possible. Teammates like Gliscor, or Starmie can clear hazards while Taunt user like Azelf or lead Skarmory can disrupt opponent' Stealth Rock setter. The latter two are really good partner for Dragonite. Azelf can set up Dual Screens or Stealth Rock, creating even more setup opportunities while Skarmory can set both Stealth Rock and Spikes facilitating sweep scenarios. Setting up Stealth Rock is essential as it enables Dragonite to OHKO Weavile most of the time and 2HKO Utility Togekiss with Extreme Speed after one boost. Magnezone and Nidoking are also valuable partners as they pressure on Fairy- and Steel-types, especially Unaware Clefable, that would otherwise prevent Dragonite from sweeping. You need to mention that Magnezone traps defensive Skarm, which otherwise can phaze this set with Whirlwind due to its lack of Fire Punch. Dragonite also just really likes teammates that break for it like Lucario, Breloom, Infernape, even Mamoswine. I personally really like Lucario cause it can break Clefable.

Dragonite with its fantastic bulk can also provide a good amount of utility for its teammates. Dragonite is one the most reliable defensive answer to Infernape and Breloom as well as Heatran. It can easily Defog in these scenarios where most Pokemons can't. The combination of Ice Beam/Fire Blast and Earthquake allows Dragonite to beat hazard setters such as Skarmory, Gliscor or Heatran. Roost lets Dragonite abuse (don't use "abuse", you literally anything else) of Multiscale as it resets when Dragonite returns to full life, increasing and increases Dragonite's longevity considerably. However, the overall weakness to Weavile and Starmie and the reliance on Multiscale is very detrimental to the effectiveness of any defensive sets.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fairy-types** : Fairy-type Pokemons such as Clefable and Togekiss are able to switch into Dragonite in most scenarios and deter it from using its Dragon STAB move. Togekiss is immune to both Dragon- and Ground-type moves whereas Unaware Clefable stops any sweeping attempts and is not afraid of Earthquake. (Unaware clefable is not afraid of any of Dragonite's moves, no need to specify Earthquake)

**Ice-type Pokemons and Coverage Ice-types and Ice-type Coverage** : The four times weakness to Ice-type moves deter Dragonite from staying in the field. Especially Life Orb Mamoswine and Choice Band Weavile are able to OHKO Dragonite with Icicle Crash through Multiscale and with Ice Shard without if Multiscale is broken. (mention that they are too frail to switch into it, and Extreme Speed can circumvent Ice Shard)

**Steel-types** : Steel-type Pokemons (for the love of God it is Pokemon not Pokemons) such as Scizor, Jirachi and Heatran prevent Dragonite from using its most powerful STAB move Outrage. The latter can even abuse of the Outrage's lock to try to burn Dragonite with Flame Body that would, in most cases, neutralize Dragonite. (mention that all these mons get blown up by its coverage)

**Stealth Rock** : Much of Dragonite's longevity bulk comes from its Multiscale ability. In addition of being vunerable vulnerable to Rock-type moves because of its Flying-type, Stealth Rock removes Multiscale of the equation effectively deterring Dragonite from entering the field.

**Rotom-Wash** : Rotom-Wash is an effective Will-o-Wisp or Thunder Wave user that could effectively criple cripple Dragonite if it doesn't use Lum Berry on top of also being immune to Earthquake.

**Revenge Killers** : Outrage-induced lock is exploitable by faster threats like Weavile, Mamoswine, Azumarill, or Latios that would easily OHKO it back without fearing Extreme Speed. Similarly, Dragonite being locked into Outrage ensures priority users like Mamoswine are faster.

some of these changes are GP stuff that really detracted from the analysis as a whole. I am not stamping this yet; I want to see this implemented and then recheck it before I give 1/2.

Earthquake is the best option as it combines flexibility, power and coverage in addition of OHKO Heatran
it isn't the best option, it is just a good mid-ground when you aren't sure what your opponent is switching in

outprioritizing dangerous threats like Weavile or Mamoswine
just say "circumventing Ice Shard from Weavile and Mamoswine"

Dragon fellow
please say fellow Dragon-types

Finally, Dragonite combines well with other wallbreakers like Infernape, Lucario or Breloom that appreciate Dragonite's ability to deal with Gliscor while Dragonite benefits from their pressure on Pokemon like Latios, Clefable or Steel-types in general to use Outrage more easily.
i'd change this to say that dragonite pressures gliscor, not deals with it. also get rid of the "in general", it means nothing

As an other option, Yache Berry in combination with Multiscale gives opportunities to set up on Pokemon running Ice-type attacks such as Starmie's and Slowbro's Ice Beam.
Yache also prevents Weavile and Mamoswine from revenging Dragonite if its Multiscale gets broken by a weak move

There are still a bunch of basic GP errors in this that I hope you can try to fix, but since I am most likely going to be the person GP checking this anyways, I will give this QC 1/2 since the info for the most part is actually quite good

As another option, Yache Berry, in combination with Multiscale, gives Dragonite opportunities to set up on Pokemon running Ice-type attacks such as Starmie's and Slowbro's Ice Beam in a pinch while preventing a healthy Mamoswine and Weavile from revenge killing Dragonite in case its Multiscale gets broken by a weak moveand it cannot set up enough.

Dragon Dance Dragonite requires a lot of support to usrealize its full potential. Keeping the field free ofrom Stealth Rock is mandatory to preserve Multiscale for as long as possible. Teammates like Gliscor or Starmie can clear hazardsremove entry hazards, while Taunt users like Azelf or lead Skarmory can disrupt opponent' Stealth Rock setterprevent the opponent from getting Stealth Rock up in the first place. In addition, Azelf can set up Dual Sdual screens or Stealth Rock while Skarmory can set both Stealth Rock and Spikes. Setting up Stealth Rock is essential, as it enables Dragonite to OHKO Weavile most of the time and 2HKO Utility Togekiss with Extreme Speed after one boost. Due to the absence of Fire Punch, Magnezone is particularly valuable, as it traps defensive Skarmory and prevents it from phasing Dragonite with Whirlwind. More generally, Lucario and Nidoking are powerful wallbreakers that are able to effectively damage Fairy- and Steel-types such as Scizor and Unaware Clefable that would otherwise prevent Dragonite from sweeping. Also, pPokemon such as Latios and Alakazam likes Dragonite's ability to severely damage shared checks like Weavile and Scizor for their own attempt of sweeping attempt.

Other Options
=============

Dragonite, with its fantastic bulk, can also provide a good amount of utility for its teammates. As a dDefogger, it beats common entry hazard setters like Heatran, Skarmory, and Gliscor in addition tof being a very good solid check to both Infernape and Breloom thanks to the combination of Ice Beam/Fire Blastits combination of Ice Beam, Fire Blast, and Earthquake, while Roost lets Dragonite recover Multiscale and increases Dragonite's longevity considerably. However, the overallits weakness to Stealth Rock and to Ice-type moves as well as its over-reliance on Multiscale is very detrimental to the effectiveness of any defensive sets.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fairy-types**: Fairy-type Pokemon such as Clefable and Togekiss are able to switch into Dragonite in most scenarios and deter it from using its Dragon STAB move. Togekiss is immune to both Dragon- and Ground-type moves-type STAB moves. Togekiss is also immune to Earthquake, whereas Unaware Clefable stops any sweeping attempts.

**Ice-types and Ice-type Coverage**: Life Orb Mamoswine and Choice Band Weavile are able to OHKO Dragonite with Icicle Crash through Multiscale and with Ice Shard if Multiscale is broken. However, noneeither of them are able to switch into Dragonite, and Extreme Speed has a higher priority than Ice Shard, so they have to act with caution.

**Steel-types**: Steel-type Pokemon such as Scizor, Jirachi, Skarmory, and Heatran prevent Dragonite from using its most powerful STAB move Outrage. The latter can even take advantage of the Outrage's lock to try to burn Dragonite with Flame Body that would, in most cases, neutralize Dragonite. Though: Outrage. Heatran can even take advantage of Outrage to try to fish for a Flame Body burn. However, they are all vulnerable to Dragonite's coverage moves like Earthquake and Fire Punch.

**Stealth Rock**: Much of Dragonite's bulk comes from Multiscale. In addition of being vulnerable to Rock-type moves because of its Flying-type, Stealth Rock removes Multiscale of the equationto being weak to Stealth Rock, the entry hazard breaks Multiscale, effectively deterring Dragonite from entering the field.

**Rotom-Wash** : Rotom-Wash is an effective Will-o-Wisp or Thunder Wave user that could effectively: Rotom-W can cripple Dragonite if it doesn't use Lum Berry on top ofwith Will-O-Wisp or Thunder Wave while also being immune to Earthquake. However, if Dragonite is locked into Outrage, Rotom-Wash can't effectively cripple it without casualties as Dragonite will still be able to 2HKO Rotom-Wash in the process.

**Revenge Killers** : Outrage-induced lock is exploitable by
cannot effectively cripple it, as Dragonite is still able to 2HKO Rotom-W through burn.

**Revenge Killers**: Using Outrage lets
threats like Mamoswine, Azumarill or Latios that would easily OHKO it back without fearing Extreme Speed, and Latios easily revenge kill Dragonite.

As expected, Latias is functionnaly the same as Latios in the post ban Latios metagame. Especially, I feel, due the higher Soul Dew usage, it is even harder to face unknown item Latias than unknown item Latios. Hence, I've replaced every Latios occurrences by Latias. I doubt it needs another QC/GP check so I put the banner Done back.
