:bw/dragonite:

Thanks to the combination of Heavy Duty Boots and Multiscale, Dragonite is able to perform a wide variety of roles on a team. With access to Roost and Heal Bell, as well as a wide offensive movepool, Dragonite is an excellent natural check to the likes of Urshifu-R, Rillaboom, Volcarona, and Heatran. Dragonite is arguably the best answer to Heatran within the tier, resisting Magma Storm, possessing an immunity to Earth Power and able to get rid of status thanks to Heal Bell. Dragonite is also able to perform as a good win condition with a powerful Dragon Dance set, letting it sweep thanks to its natural bulk, stats, defensive typing, fantastic ability in Multiscale and great offensive coverage in Dual Wingbeat and Earthquake as well as solid options in Fire Punch and Ice Punch. Though Dragonite is a very solid Pokemon, its reliance on Heavy Duty Boots makes it vulnerable to Knock Off and Trick. The removal of Heavy Duty Boots means that it's Multiscale can be broken by Stealth Rock, which means Dragonite will find it much harder to set up if it's Dragon Dance or check the likes of Kartana and Zeraora. Dragonite also has to compete with many other Pokemon in the tier for it's role, like Garchomp and Kartana as strong win conditions and Corviknight and Tornadus as a defogger because of their ability to check Ground and Grass-types better. Dragonite is susceptible to being overwhelmed by chip damage, as many of the Pokemon it is normally supposed to check like Zeraora, Kartana, Landorus-T, and Heatran often carry either Knock Off or Toxic. Dragonite often relies on it being at 100% for Multiscale almost always, which restricts it to bulky offense teams because of its limited longevity and Roost PP, as well as making it extremely irritated by any physical attacker in the tier clicking Knock Off, U-turn or Toxic, and therefore taking away future switch-in opportunities

Dragonite's utility set puts the spotlight on it's defensive capabilities and utility, having access to Roost and Heal Bell, as well as a fantastic ability in Multiscale and investing fully in physical bulk. These attributes make Dragonite an extremely solid check to the likes of Rillaboom, Urshifu-R, Heatran, and Volcarona through it's resistances, Multiscale, and invested bulk. Earthquake gives solid neutral coverage on a wide range of the metagame, and hits Heatran, Galarian Slowking, and Magnezone super-effectively, on top of the myriad of Steel-types within the tier like Melmetal, Heatran and Bisharp. Ice Beam lets Dragonite hit Dragon, Grass, and Ground-types like Garchomp, opposing Dragonite, Rillaboom, Tapu Bulu and Landorus-T. Flamethrower is also a decent coverage option, as it makes you a superb check to Kartana, Scizor, and Ferrothorn as well. Dragonite can choose Dual Wingbeat as a means to hit Volcarona for major damage, but it once again doesn't offer the same great coverage which makes it hit the majority of the metagame, while additionally making it prone to contact effects like Rocky Helmet, Static and Flame Body. Heal Bell allows Dragonite to act as an effective cleric, removing all status conditions off of your Pokemon and repeatedly and much more reliably check more Pokemon that will use Toxic to wear it down. This also helps ensure that Dragonite doesn't lose to Toxic Heatran, and cements it as the best Heatran answer overall in the tier. Defog makes Dragonite a hazard remover which is able to beat common Stealth Rock setters like Heatran and Landorus-T, though it risks taking a Toxic with no way to get rid of it from these two and is often outclassed by Corviknight due to it's typing - which lets it Defog on common Stealth Rock users like Garchomp and Landorus, ability to facilitate breakers with U-Turn, and immunity to Toxic.

Dragonite's solid bulk and utility options make it a solid choice for many bulky offense teams, providing a solid check to many powerful physical attackers like Rillaboom and Urshifu-R, as well as an excellent Heatran check. This makes pokemon such as Clefable and Volcarona great teammates, as they appreciate Dragonite's defensive utility. Fairy-types like Clefable can pair with it extremely well, checking Pokemon like Dragapult, Hydreigon, Weavile and Garchomp, while Dragonite is able to alleviate pressure for Clefable by handling pokemon such as Heatran, Rillaboom, Kartana and Magnezone. Toxapex also makes an excellent partner as it's able to divvy out the work between Dragonite and itself while providing a check to Dragapult and Weavile. Specially Defensive Pokemon like Blissey and Scizor can work together with Dragonite to position against and check the likes of Dragapult and Kyurem which take advantage of Dragonite. Scizor makes for a fantastic partner as it's able to also divvy out the pressure Dragonite faces when checking Kartana and Rillaboom, being able to soak up Knock Off as well as Grass-type moves from them, where Dragonite can pressure Fire-types like Heatran and Volcarona. Buzzwole in particular makes for an excellent partner, being able to divvy out pressure from Urshifu-R, Rillaboom, and Kartana, but also creates a good backbone with Dragonite against Physically-oriented wallbreakers. Buzzwole is able to take on the likes of Weavile, Garchomp, and Melmetal, as well as be an excellent Knock Off absorber for Dragonite. In return, Dragonite checks the likes of Heatran, Volcarona, and Tornadus-T for it. Heal Bell is another factor in why these two synergise well, as Dragonite is able to remove status from Buzzwole, which it wants to avoid.

[SET]
name: Defensive Dragon Dance
move 1: Dragon Dance
move 2: Dual Wingbeat
move 3: Heal Bell / Earthquake
move 4: Roost
item: Heavy Duty Boots
ability: Multiscale
nature: Adamant
evs: 248 HP / 52 Atk / 56 Def / 152 Spe

Defensive Dragon Dance Dragonite presents itself as a bulky and reliable wincon, able to set up thanks to Multiscale and keep itself healthy throughout the match with Roost, able to situationally switch into the likes of Urshifu-R and Volcarona and not have to fear status conditions. This spread is able to reliably check Smart Strike Kartana while still outspeeding the likes of Kartana, Urshifu-R, and Hydreigon after a Dragon Dance boost. Heal Bell allows Dragonite to prevent itself from being crippled once it begins sweeping from common counterplay like Toxic Landorus-T or Toxapex. Earthquake allows Dragonite to get punish Steel-types and many other would-be checks, such as Heatran, Tapu Koko, and Toxapex.
Ice Punch is also an option, as it gives Dragonite a way to hit the many Ground and Dragon-types within the tier, such as Garchomp, Landorus-T and opposing Dragonite, while still hitting Grass-types like Rillaboom and Tapu Bulu. This prevents Garchomp and Landorus-T from Toxic-ing you, letting Dragonite not be worn down as easily. Roost lets Dragonite set itself up at full health, letting it use it's Multiscale to give it more opportunities to setup with Dragon Dance or deal major damage to something

Dragonite functions extremely well with other potent wallbreakers, so the likes of Kartana, Urshifu-R and Tapu Lele can help overload Dragonite's check's like Toxapex, Corviknight, and Clefable while creating a frightening offensive core. Kartana and Dragonite work well to overload Corviknight and Mandibuzz together, Urshifu-R appreciates Grass-type Pokemon being dealt with and handles Steel-types for it whereas Tapu Lele loves the fact that Dragonite is able to deal with Slowking and Heatran. Hazard support is greatly appreciated, as with Stealth Rock up you manage to get valuable chip damage on opponents like Garchomp, opposing Landorus-T and Heatran. This makes Landorus-T and Heatran solid partners. Heatran in particular can trap Toxapex and handle Steel-types like Corviknight, Skarmory and Ferrothorn which Dragonite struggles with, making it a very good partner for it. Magnezone makes for a very solid partner for Dragonite, being able to trap Skarmory and Corviknight so Dragonite doesn't have to worry about them. Offensive pivots like Tapu Koko, Zeraora, Landorus-T, and Urshifu-R can position Dragonite excellently, giving the most opportune moment to set up in front of Heatran and Buzzwole, while also being able to chip down opponents with U-turn and Volt Switch.

Other Options
====

Aqua Tail can be considered on Defensive sets due to it's ability to hit Volcarona, Heatran and other Ground-types like Hippowdon is one slot. Offensive Dragon Dance Dragonite is also a viable option, reducing its investment in bulk to its Attack and Speed, with it's main goal being to use its great ability in Multiscale to set up a Dragon Dance freely and start cleaning the opponent's team. However, this removes a lot of Dragonite's valuable defensive utility and is often not as effective.

Checks and Counters
====

**Fairy-types**: Clefable is a complete stop to Dragon Dance Dragonite, ignoring its boost, use Knock Off orThunder Wave to cripple it and Moonblast it, and Calm Mind sets are able to use it to set up freely. Tapu Fini is able to fish for Scald burns, Taunt it to prevent Dragonite from setting up or Roosting off damage, or Moonblast it for massive damage. Tapu Fini can also run a Choice Scarf set and Trick it onto Dragonite, both removing it's Heavy Duty Boots and crippling it by forcing a Choice lock against it and stopping any potential sweep. Tapu Lele is also a great revenge killer for Dragon Dance sets with a Choice Scarf, and Choice Specs sets are able to get free turns out of defensive sets and OHKO it.

**Ice-types**: Weavile and Kyurem both pose a major threat to Dragonite, with Weavile being able to OHKO it with Triple Axel, Knock Off its Heavy Duty Boots, and effectively revenge kill Dragon Dance sets with Ice Shard. Kyurem is able to threaten OHKO it with Ice Beam and Freeze Dry, making Dragonite weary of setting up. SubRoost variants also are able to take a couple of hits with Kyurem's great bulk and immediately pressure it back.

**Steel-types**: Ferrothorn, Corviknight, and Skarmory act as hard walls to Dragonite without Fire Punch, Ferrothorn even being able to Knock Off Dragonite's Heavy Duty Boots and Iron Defense variants of Skarmory and Corviknight being able to 1v1 it with ease.

**Chip Damage**: Dragonite really struggles to deal with Toxic unless it's a Heal Bell set, and Knock Off is a major hindrance as losing Heavy Duty Boots forces you to take Stealth Rock damage. This means that Dragonite's Multiscale is rarely going to be active, so it'll have a much harder time checking Pokemon it should like Kartana and Zeraora.

**Fast Revenge Killers**: Dragonite is naturally slower than a lot of offensive threats, like Tapu Koko, Garchomp, Dragapult and Weavile, all of which are capable of revenge killing Dragonite.

**Dragon-types**: Hydreigon, Garchomp and Dragapult are able to slam Dragonite for super effective damage, leaving it crippled for the remainder of the match and making it much harder to switch into opposing threats.

[Overview]

  • Thanks to the amazing combination of Heavy Duty Boots and Multiscale, Dragonite is able to perform a wide variety of roles on a team thus making it a great pick in OU.
  • With access to Defog, Roost and Heal Bell, as well as an array of offensive moves it can use with it's magnificent Attack stat, Dragonite makes itself an excellent check to the likes of Urshifu-R, Rillaboom, Volcarona and Heatran. Defog dnite makes me cry dont mention it, dont mention its attack stat here, its never rlly using it for its utility set, you can merge it w the previous statement and say that multiscale boots roost healbell and its defensive typing lets it check blabla
  • Dragonite is also able to go onto the offensive with a powerful Dragon Dance set, letting it be a major threat able to put massive holes into the opposing team, or even sweep thanks to great offensive coverage in Dual Wingbeat and Earthquake. mention its other coverage too in the form of ice punch and fire punch.
  • Though Dragonite is a very solid Pokemon, it's reliance on Heavy Duty Boots make it vulnerable to Knock Off, Trick and other moves that may remove it's item. The removal of Heavy Duty Boots means that it's Multiscale can be broken by Stealth Rock, which means Dragonite will find it much harder to set up if it's Dragon Dance or have a much harder time checking the likes of Kartana and Zeraora. mention how knock offs esp bad cuz it likes to check mons that carry knock off like rilla kart zera.
  • Dragonite also has to compete with many other Pokemon in the tier for it's role, like Corviknight and Tornadus-T as a Defogger and Garchomp as a Sweeper.
  • mention how it gets easily overwhelmed too, cuz of how many things it tries to do at once, also mention how bad of a ground immune it is since its weak to toxic which almost all defensive ground types tend to carry.

  • Dragonite's utility set puts the spotlight on it's defensive capabilities and utility, having access to Roost, Heal Bell, Defog and a fantastic ability in Multiscale. All of these moves in conjunction make Dragonite an extremely solid check to the likes of Rillaboom, Tapu Bulu, Urshifu-R, Heatran and Volcarona. Tapu bulus iffy cuz it tends to carry stone edge, say kartana or zeraora or smth
  • Earthquake gives you solid neutral coverage on a wide range of the metagame, and hits Heatran, Galarian Slowking and Toxapex super-effectively.
  • Ice Beam lets Dragonite hit Dragon, Grass, Flying and Ground-types like Garchomp, Rillaboom, Tapu Bulu, Landorus-T and Tornadus-T while also covering everything Earthquake doesn't hit for neutral damage. Thats not rlly its main intention cuz its not doing enough damage to stuff like skarmory or corv to make up for them being immune to ground, its more so to hit some targets supereffectively.
  • Flamethrower is also an option, as it makes you a superb check to Kartana and Ferrothorn as well, but the coverage moves noted here are often better to use and hit a wider variety of the metagame.
  • Heal Bell allows Dragonite to act as an effective cleric, removing all status conditions off of your Pokemon whereas Defog makes Dragonite a solid hazard remover which is able to beat common Stealth Rock setters like Heatran and Landorus-T. its a lie, its mediocre at best and gets outclassed by so much and has like one positive match up with heatran which can also toxic it. mention these drawbacks
  • my bad mention dwb here instead of oo

  • Dragonite's solid bulk and utility options make it a solid choice for many Bulky Offense teams, providing a solid check to many powerful physical attackers like Rillaboom and Urshifu-R, as well as a very good Heatran check. This makes Pokemon that appreciate this Pokemon being dealt with fantastic, like Weavile, Zeraora and Tapu Fini.
  • Fairy-types like Clefable and Tapu Fini both pair with it extremely well, checking Pokemon like Dragapult, Hydreigon, Kyurem, Weavile and Garchomp, while Dragonite is able to alleviate pressure from Heatran for Clefable and check Rillaboom, Kartana and Magnezone. Tapu Fini is also able to help Dragonite check Urshifu-R and Volcarona, making it a particularly good partner.
  • Specially Defensive Pokemon like Blissey and Scizor can work together with Dragonite to position and check the likes of Dragapult and Kyurem. Scizor makes for a fantastic partner as it's able to also divvy out the pressure Dragonite faces when checking Kartana and Rillaboom, being able to soak up Knock Off as well as Grass-type moves from them.
  • Buzzwole in particular makes for an excellent partner, being able to both divvy out pressure from Urshifu-R, Rillaboom and Kartana, but also cover each others weaknesses quite well. Buzzwole is able to take Rock and Ice-type moves for Dragonite, who can stomach Flying and Fire-type moves with ease. this is pretty vague, i dont like it either, if you can elaborate on what mons they can switch into for each other then thatd be better

  • Ice Punch may be opted for over Dual Wingbeat as a means to hit the many Ground and Dragon-types within the tier, such as Garchomp, Landorus-T and opposing Dragonite, while still hitting Grass-types like Rillaboom and Tapu Bulu. mention why this is worth it, for example it prevents lando or chomp from being able to toxic you hence negating your multiscale.
  • Fire Punch is also an option, being able to hit Steel-types like Corviknight and Ferrothorn, though it doesn't provide the best coverage options and hits less Pokemon than Earthquake and Dual Wingbeat. mention skarmory as a target.
  • Roost gives Dragonite a great tool in longevity, allowing it to stay in the game for longer and find more opportunities to set up while also restoring it's Multiscale. Roost also gives Dragonite great defensive utility in being able to check the likes of Rillaboom and Urshifu-R
  • Heavy Duty Boots prevent Dragonite from taking damage from Stealth Rock, keeping it's Multiscale intact to set up easily
  • Multiscale is the primary selling point of Dragonite, taking 50% from the first attack when at full HP. This lets Dragonite set up much more freely, and when in tandem with Roost, it's able to find multiple opportunities to set up throughout the game. No need to mention this, instead mention why jolly.

All of these moves in conjunction These attributes make Dragonite an extremely solid check to the likes of Rillaboom, Zeraora, Urshifu-R, Heatran and Volcarona. **Fast Revenge Killers**: Dragonite is naturally slower than a lot of offensive threats, like Tapu Koko, Dragapult and Weavile, all of which are capable of revenge killing Dragonite. I don't see how this is super relevant when Dnite has the bulk to eat practically anything and dragon dance anyways, the only one here who actually takes it out is Weavile coz Ice Shard

**Chip Damage**: Dragonite really struggles to deal with Toxic unless it's a Heal Bell set, and Knock Off is a major hinderance as losing Heavy Duty Boots forces you to take Stealth Rock damage. This means that Dragonite's Multiscale is rarely going to be active, so it'll have a much harder time checking Pokemon it should like Rillaboom and Zeraora.

[Overview]

  • Thanks to the amazing combination of Heavy Duty Boots and Multiscale, Dragonite is able to perform a wide variety of roles on a team, thus making it a great pick in OU. With access to Roost and Heal Bell, as well as an array of offensive moves it can use with it's magnificent Attack stat, Dragonite makes itself an excellent check to the likes of Urshifu-R, Rillaboom, Volcarona and Heatran.
  • Dragonite is also able to go onto the offensive with a powerful Dragon Dance set, letting it be a major threat able to put massive holes into the opposing team, or even sweep thanks to great offensive coverage in Dual Wingbeat and Earthquake as well as solid options in Fire Punch and Ice Punch
  • Though Dragonite is a very solid Pokemon, it's reliance on Heavy Duty Boots make it vulnerable to Knock Off, Trick and other moves that may remove it's item. The removal of Heavy Duty Boots means that it's Multiscale can be broken by Stealth Rock, which means Dragonite will find it much harder to set up if it's Dragon Dance or have a much harder time checking the likes of Kartana and Zeraora, which are Pokemon it's supposed to check Fluff
  • Dragonite also has to compete with many other Pokemon in the tier for it's role, like Corviknight and Tornadus-T as a Defogger and Garchomp as a Sweeper. Defog Dragonite is terrible, not sure why its listed a competitor in that regard here. yea defog dnite makes me cry pls remove
  • Dragonite is susceptible to being overwhelmed by chip damage, as many of the Pokemon it is normally supposed to check like Zeraora, Landorus-T and Rillaboom often carry either Knock Off or Toxic.

  • Dragonite's utility set puts the spotlight on it's defensive capabilities and utility, having access to Roost, Defog and Heal Bell, as well as a fantastic ability in Multiscale. All of these moves in conjunction These attributes make Dragonite an extremely solid check to the likes of Rillaboom, Zeraora, Urshifu-R, Heatran and Volcarona. It's a very poor Zeraora check. at most you throw it out when you have nothing else to use. It gets crippled by pretty much every relevant set. keep defog, and yea its not the best zera check.
  • Earthquake gives you solid neutral coverage on a wide range of the metagame, and hits Heatran, Galarian Slowking and Toxapex and Magnezone super-effectively. It barely dents toxapex while Pex will just exchange a Knock or Toxic, not a great mention. yea works, eq still does pressure pex tho and can force itto either switch out or burn recover pp, but yea getting crippled in return isnt the best thing.
  • Ice Beam lets Dragonite hit Dragon, Grass, Flying and Ground-types like Garchomp, Rillaboom, Tapu Bulu, Landorus-T and Tornadus-T.
  • Flamethrower is also an option, as it makes you a superb check to Kartana and Ferrothorn as well, but the coverage moves noted here are often better to use and hit a wider variety of the metagame. small thing but Ice beam already 2hkos Kartana very cleanly, You only really run Flame if getting kart out of the picture is paramount bc Dnites your main check
  • Dragonite can chose Dual Wingbeat as a means to hit Rillaboom, Tapu Bulu and Urshifu-R better, as well as hit Buzzwole and Volcarona for major damage, but it once again doesn't offer the same great coverage.
  • Heal Bell allows Dragonite to act as an effective cleric, removing all status conditions off of your Pokemon whereas Defog makes Dragonite a hazard remover which is able to beat common Stealth Rock setters like Heatran and Landorus-T, though it risks taking a Toxic with no way to get rid of it from these two Defog dragonite is terrible and should definitely not be listed on the main set imo, it loses to heatran a fair amount of the time due to losing Heal Bell and Lando can very easily pressure it with either Knock or Toxic. QC wants defog there, keep it. do mention that its a shit defogger tho.

This makes pokemon such as Weavile, Tapu Fini, and Zeraora great teammates, as they appreciate Dragonite's defensive utility.
  • Fairy-types like Clefable and Tapu Fini both pair with it extremely well, checking Pokemon like Dragapult, Hydreigon, Kyurem,Tapu fini doesn't check Kyurem at all Weavile and Garchomp, while Dragonite is able to alleviate pressure from Heatran for Clefable for Clefable by handling pokemon such as Heatran and check Rillaboom, Kartana and Magnezone.
Buzzwole is able to take on the likes of Weavile, Garchomp and Melmetal, as well as be an excellent Knock Off absorber for it. In return, Dragonite checks the likes of Heatran, Volcarona and Tornadus-T for it, while also being able to divvy out oncomng pressure from the likes of Rillaboom, Kartana, Zeraora, Landorus-T and Urshifu-R

  • Offensive Dragonite's main goal is to use it's great ability in Multiscale to set up a Dragon Dance freely and start cleaning the opponents team
  • Earthquake allows Dragonite to get past Steel-types and many other would-be checks, such as Heatran, Tapu Koko and Toxapex, while also providing solid neutral coverage for Pokemon like Tapu Fini, Slowking, Ferrothorn and Scizor
  • Ice Punch may be opted for over Dual Wingbeat as a means to hit the many Ground and Dragon-types within the tier, such as Garchomp, Landorus-T and opposing Dragonite, while still hitting Grass-types like Rillaboom and Tapu Bulu. This prevents Garchomp and Landorus-T from Toxic-ing you, letting Dragonite keep it's Multiscale intact
  • Fire Punch is also an option, being able to hit Steel-types like Corviknight, Skarmory amd Ferrothorn, though it doesn't provide the best coverage options and hits less Pokemon than Earthquake and Dual Wingbeat
  • Jolly Dragonite is able to outspeed the likes of Zeraora, Dragapult and Bulky Volcarona after a boost, meaning it can't be revenge killed from them.

  • Dragonite functions extremely well with other potent wallbreakers, so the likes of Kartana, Urshifu-R and Tapu Lele can help overload Dragonite's check's like Toxapex and Clefable while creating a frightening offensive core. Kartana and Dragonite work well to overload Corviknight and Mandibuzz together, Urshifu appreciates Grass-type Pokemon being gone and handles Steel-types for it and Tapu Lele loves that Dragonite deals with Slowking and Heatran.
  • Hazard support is greatly appreciated, as with Stealth Rock up you manage to 2HKO Toxapex, Garchomp and Scizor. This makes Landorus-T, Ferrothorn and Heatran solid partners. Heatran in particular can trap Toxapex and handle Steel-types like Corviknight, Skarmory and Ferrothorn which Dragonite struggles with, making it a very good partner for it.
  • Magnezone makes for a very solid partner for Dragonite, being able to trap Skarmory and Corviknight so Dragonite doesn't have to worry about them.
  • Offensive pivots like Tapu Koko, Zeraora, Landorus-T and Urshifu-R can position Dragonite excellently, giving the most opportune moment to set up while also being able to chip down opponents with U-turn and Volt Switch.

**Fairy-types**: Unaware Clefable is a complete stop to Dragon Dance Dragonite, ignoring it's boosts and Moonblasting it, whereas Tapu Fini is able to fish for Scald burns, Taunt it to prevent Dragonite from setting up or Roosting off damge, or Moonblast it for massive damage. Tapu Fini can also run a Choice Scarf set and Trick it onto Dragonite, both removing it's Heavy Duty Boots and crippling it by being locked into a move. not just unaware regular ol' magic guard clef can shut it down too, w twave and knock

**Ice-types**: Weavile and Kyurem both pose a major threat to Dragonite, with Weavile being able to OHKO it with Triple Axel and potentially knocking off it's Heavy Duty Boots, forcing Dragonite to take Stealth Rock damage. Kyurem is able to OHKO it with Ice Beam and Freeze Dry and so removing Kyurem is advised before setting up.

**Steel-types**: Ferrothorn, Corviknight and Skarmory act as hard walls to Dragonite without Fire Punch, Ferrothorn even being able to Knock Off Dragonite's Heavy Duty Boots and Iron Defense variants of Skarmory and Corviknight being able to 1v1 it with ease.

With access to Roost and Heal Bell, as well as an array of offensive moves it can use with it's magnificent Attack stat, Dragonite is makes itself an excellent natural check to the likes of Urshifu-R, Rillaboom, Volcarona and Heatran. • Dragonite is susceptible to being overwhelmed by chip damage, as many of the Pokemon it is normally supposed to check like Zeraora, Landorus-T and Rillaboom often carry either Knock Off or Toxic. I would just omit Rillaboom here since even with Knock Off it's not really beating Dragonite anyway. Kartana may be a stronger mention, and I would make Kartana the first you mention so you can create clarity on which Pokemon uses what (parallelism babeyyy).

  • Dragonite's utility set puts the spotlight on it's defensive capabilities and utility, having access to Roost and Heal Bell, as well as a fantastic ability in Multiscale. These attributes make Dragonite an extremely solid check to the likes of Rillaboom, Urshifu-R, Heatran and Volcarona. This is a given. How does a more defensive bias impact its matchup against them? We already know most of this because of the overview so try to avoid being repetitive.
  • Earthquake gives you solid neutral coverage on a wide range of the metagame, and hits Heatran, Galarian Slowking and Magnezone super-effectively.
  • Ice Beam lets Dragonite hit Dragon, Grass, Flying and Ground-types like Garchomp, Rillaboom, Tapu Bulu, Landorus-T and Tornadus-T. Funnily enough using Ice Beam lets you check opposing Dragonite too.
  • Flamethrower is also a decent coverage option, as it makes you a superb check to Scizor and Ferrothorn as well, but the coverage moves noted above are often better to use and hit a wider variety of the metagame. To be more specific: having these coverage options let it be less passive against a wider range of Pokemon. Running Flamethrower + Earthquake for example can be problematic against say Garchomp which takes heavy advantage of Dragonite's generated passivity due to lacking the ability to directly threaten it.
  • Dragonite can chose Dual Wingbeat as a means to hit Rillaboom, Tapu Bulu and Urshifu-R better, as well as hit Buzzwole and Volcarona for major damage, but it once again doesn't offer the same great coverage. Same thing here, and it's even worse considering Dual Wingbeat makes it prone to adverse contact effects like Rocky Helmet and Flame Body.
  • Heal Bell allows Dragonite to act as an effective cleric, removing all status conditions off of your Pokemon whereas Defog makes Dragonite a hazard remover which is able to beat common Stealth Rock setters like Heatran and Landorus-T, though it risks taking a Toxic with no way to get rid of it from these two and is often outclassed by other Defoggers like Corviknight Heal Bell also lets it repeatedly and far more reliably check Pokemon that use Toxic as a way to wear Dragonite down; it's good to be specific where you can. How exactly does Corviknight outclass it as a Defogger, too? What makes it not so good?

  • Dragonite's solid bulk and utility options make it a solid choice for many Bulky Offense teams, providing a solid check to many powerful physical attackers like Rillaboom and Urshifu-R, as well as a very good Heatran check. This makes pokemon such as Weavile, Tapu Fini, and Zeraora great teammates, as they appreciate Dragonite's defensive utility. I've found Defensive Dragonite to be more of a Balance Pokemon since it can be a momentum sap in certain matchups and tends to pair with bulkier win conditions like CM Clefable and Pokemon that like to play the long term like Toxapex.
  • Fairy-types like Clefable and Tapu Fini both pair with it extremely well, checking Pokemon like Dragapult, Hydreigon, Weavile and Garchomp, while Dragonite is able to alleviate pressure for Clefable by handling pokemon such as Heatran, Rillaboom, Kartana and Magnezone. Tapu Fini is also able to help Dragonite check Urshifu-R and Volcarona, making it a particularly good partner. Heal Bell support is fantastic for Unaware Clefable which detests Toxic, and moreover can even let its setup variants do work repeatedly. In general I'm kind of whatever on having Tapu Fini as a mention because it doesn't really benefit much from Heal Bell and Dragonite's checks. I'd actually be pressed to mention Toxapex if anything. It checks the same things to alleviate pressure for Dragonite while providing an added check against Dragapult and Weavile while disrupting with Knock Off and status of its own (Toxic/Toxic Spikes) to keep up pressure while Dragonite does its thing.
  • Specially Defensive Pokemon like Blissey and Scizor can work together with Dragonite to position against and check the likes of Dragapult and Kyurem which take advantage of Dragonite. Scizor makes for a fantastic partner as it's able to also divvy out the pressure Dragonite faces when checking Kartana and Rillaboom, being able to soak up Knock Off as well as Grass-type moves from them.
  • Buzzwole in particular makes for an excellent partner, being able to both divvy out pressure from Urshifu-R, Rillaboom and Kartana, but also creates a good backbone with Dragonite against Physically-oriented wallbreakers. cover each others weaknesses quite well. A bit of a clarity thing. Buzzwole is able to take on the likes of Weavile, Garchomp and Melmetal, as well as be an excellent Knock Off absorber for it. In return, Dragonite checks the likes of Heatran, Volcarona and Tornadus-T for it, while also being able to divvy out oncomng pressure from the likes of Rillaboom, Kartana, Zeraora, Landorus-T and Urshifu-R Reduce the mentions here to Kartana, Landorus-T, and Urshifu-R. I'd like to see Heal Bell mentioned as a proponent of this pairing since Buzzwole detests status.

We're going to be shooting to see the defensive set instead here, and you can put Offensive with its options and benefits in OO. Teammates are roughly the same so you don't need to worry too extensively about it but you will want to repurpose its game plan and alter the teammates section mildly to reflect its opportunity costs. I'll eye over the teammates once you implement everything. This spread checks Smart Strike Kartana while still outspeeding base 110s at +1.
  • Dragonite functions extremely well with other potent wallbreakers, so the likes of Kartana, Urshifu-R and Tapu Lele can help overload Dragonite's check's like Toxapex and Clefable while creating a frightening offensive core. Heatran in particular can trap Toxapex and handle Steel-types like Corviknight, Skarmory and Ferrothorn which Dragonite struggles with, making it a very good partner for it.

Offensive DD in OO.

Checks and Counters
====

**Fairy-types**: Unaware Clefable is a complete stop to Dragon Dance Dragonite, ignoring it's boost or using Thunder Wave to cripple it and Moonblast it , whereas Tapu Fini is able to fish for Scald burns, Taunt it to prevent Dragonite from setting up or Roosting off damge, or Moonblast it for massive damage. Tapu Fini can also run a Choice Scarf set and Trick it onto Dragonite, both removing it's Heavy Duty Boots and crippling it by forcing a Choice lock against it being locked into a move.

**Ice-types**: Weavile and Kyurem both pose a major threat to Dragonite, with Weavile being able to OHKO it with Triple Axel and potentially knocking off it's Heavy Duty Boots, forcing Dragonite to take Stealth Rock damage. You 100% want to mention how Weavile is literally one of its best Revenge killers because of Ice Shard. Kyurem is able to threaten OHKO it with Ice Beam and Freeze Dry and so removing Kyurem is advised before setting up. In addition to dissuading setup with its STABs, SubRoost variants don't mind sponging a hit or two if needed and they 100% have the bulk to afford it too.

**Chip Damage**: Dragonite really struggles to deal with Toxic unless it's a Heal Bell set, and Knock Off is a major hinderance as losing Heavy Duty Boots forces you to take Stealth Rock damage. This means that Dragonite's Multiscale is rarely going to be active, so it'll have a much harder time checking Pokemon it should like Kartana Rillaboom and Zeraora.

  • Thanks to the combination of Heavy Duty Boots and Multiscale, Dragonite is able to perform a wide variety of roles on a team. With access to Roost and Heal Bell, as well as an array of offensive moves it can use with it's magnificent Attack stat wide offensive movepool, Dragonite is an excellent natural check to the likes of Urshifu-R, Rillaboom, Volcarona, (AC) and Heatran. id like to see checking heatran its own sentence because that's like 50% of the reason ur using this poopmon and it's probably the best in the tier at doing so
  • Dragonite is also able to perform as a good win condition with a powerful Dragon Dance set, letting it sweep thanks to its natural bulk, stats, and great offensive coverage in Dual Wingbeat and Earthquake as well as solid options in Fire Punch and Ice Punch. should work ability and defensive typing giving it ample setup opportunities in here
  • Though Dragonite is a very solid Pokemon, it's reliance on Heavy Duty Boots makes it vulnerable to Knock Off and Trick. , Trick and other moves that may remove its item. The removal of Heavy Duty Boots means that it's Multiscale can be broken by Stealth Rock, which means Dragonite will find it much harder to set up if it's Dragon Dance or have a much harder time checking the likes of Kartana and Zeraora.
  • Dragonite also has to compete with many other Pokemon in the tier for it's role, like Garchomp and Dragapult as powerful Dragon-types and Corviknight as a defogger idk how i feel about this - dnite doesnt really use its dragon typing offensively so calling it a "powerful dragon type" feels weird. if you want to keep this i would probably change it to "physical win condition" or something (and change dragapult to something like kart, rilla, or even haxorus). similarly defensive defog dnite is really bad and this point could hit home better by just comparing it to other defensive flying types like corv lando torn bc of their ability to better check grounds and grasses at the expense of the heatran/rshifu matchup
  • Dragonite is susceptible to being overwhelmed by chip damage, as many of the Pokemon it is normally supposed to check like Zeraora, Kartana, Landorus-T, (AC) and Heatran often carry either Knock Off or Toxic.
another drawback to actually using dnite is that you have to actively keep it at 100% for multiscale pretty much always. this often restricts it to bulky offense teams because of its limited longevity and roost pp, as well as making it extremely annoyed by any physical attacker in the tier clicking any of knock/toxic/turn and taking away future switchin opportunities

  • Dragonite's utility set puts the spotlight on it's defensive capabilities and utility, having access to Roost and Heal Bell, as well as a fantastic ability in Multiscale and investing fully in physical bulk. These attributes make Dragonite an extremely solid check to the likes of Rillaboom, Urshifu-R, Heatran, (AC) and Volcarona through it's resistances, Multiscale, (AC) and invested bulk.
  • Earthquake gives you solid neutral coverage on a wide range of the metagame, and hits Heatran, Galarian Slowking, (AC) and Magnezone super-effectively. might b good to emphasize steels here as melm heatran bisharp and friends are quite important
  • Ice Beam lets Dragonite hit Dragon, Grass, Flying and Ground-types like Garchomp, opposing Dragonite, Rillaboom, Tapu Bulu, Landorus-T and Tornadus-T. focus on these types specifically because they're what you bring dnite into for the most part. torn doesn't give a shit about beam
  • Flamethrower is also a decent coverage option, as it makes you a superb check to Kartana, Scizor, (AC) and Ferrothorn as well. , but the coverage moves noted above are often better to use and hit a wider variety of the metagame, letting it be less passive against a wider range of Pokemon like Garchomp and Landorus-T, who can take advantage of it's passivity and threaten it. i've found that flamethrower is really solely used for teams with dnite as their only physical wall. ohkoing kartana is extremely valuable for these teams because dnite is 2hkod by +2 lo knock otherwise and doesn't die to beam.
  • Dragonite can choose Dual Wingbeat as a means to hit Rillaboom, Tapu Bulu and Urshifu-R better, as well as hit Buzzwole and Volcarona for major damage, but it once again doesn't offer the same great coverage which makes it hit the majority of the metagame, while additionally making it prone to contact effects like Rocky Helmet, Static and Flame Body. nope dwb is pretty much just for volc. i guess hitting rshifu can be valuable but you already beat it pretty easily with eq and you lose either way to any ice punch variant so i would edge the line of excluding it here
  • Heal Bell allows Dragonite to act as an effective cleric, removing all status conditions off of your Pokemon and repeatedly and much more reliably check more Pokemon that will use Toxic to wear it down. This also helps ensure that Dragonite doesn't lose to Toxic Heatran, and cements it as the best Heatran answer overall in the tier. whereas Defog makes Dragonite a hazard remover which is able to beat common Stealth Rock setters like Heatran and Landorus-T, though it risks taking a Toxic with no way to get rid of it from these two and is often outclassed by other Defoggers like Corviknight due to it's superior typing, ability to fascilitate breakers with U-Turn, (AC) and immunity to Toxic. idk about calling corv's typing strictly superior. ur using it and dnite for somewhat different purposes... could change this point to mention that corv is better at fogging on lando/chomp

  • Dragonite's solid bulk and utility options make it a solid choice for many Balance bulky offense teams, providing a solid check to many powerful physical attackers like Rillaboom and Urshifu-R, as well as a very good Heatran check. This makes pokemon such as Clefable and Volcarona great teammates, as they appreciate Dragonite's defensive utility. , as well as Pokemon that like to play the long term like Toxapex. dnite is not a balance mon. youre running it to compress the roles of grass check + water resist + tran check whereas balance has more room to devote to each of these slots and do a better job at each of them
  • Fairy-types like Clefable can pair with it extremely well, checking Pokemon like Dragapult, Hydreigon, Weavile and Garchomp, while Dragonite is able to alleviate pressure for Clefable by handling pokemon such as Heatran, Rillaboom, Kartana and Magnezone. Toxapex also makes an excellent partner as it's able to divvy out the work between Dragonite and itself while providing a check to Dragapult and Weavile. , being able to cripple the opposing team with the combination of Knock Off and either Toxic or Toxic Spikes. last part's just fluff and not really relevant to dnite's pure defensive goal
  • Specially Defensive Pokemon like Blissey and Scizor can work together with Dragonite to position against and check the likes of Dragapult and Kyurem which take advantage of Dragonite. Scizor makes for a fantastic partner as it's able to also divvy out the pressure Dragonite faces when checking Kartana and Rillaboom, being able to soak up Knock Off as well as Grass-type moves from them. what can dnite contribute back
  • Buzzwole in particular makes for an excellent partner, being able to both divvy out pressure from Urshifu-R, Rillaboom, (AC) and Kartana, but also creates a good backbone with Dragonite against Physically-oriented wallbreakers. Buzzwole is able to take on the likes of Weavile, Garchomp, (AC) and Melmetal, as well as be an excellent Knock Off absorber for it Dragonite. In return, Dragonite checks the likes of Heatran, Volcarona, (AC) and Tornadus-T for it. , while also being able to divvy out oncomng pressure from the likes of Kartana, Landorus-T and Urshifu-R. you said this above Heal Bell is another factor in why these two synergise well, as Dragonite is able to remove status from Buzzwole, which it wants to avoid. mentioned as a proponent of this pairing since Buzzwole detests status.
[SET]
name: Defensive Dragon Dance
move 1: Dragon Dance
move 2: Dual Wingbeat
move 3: Heal Bell / Earthquake gonna double check if we wanted bell first or eq
move 4: Roost
item: Heavy Duty Boots
ability: Multiscale
nature: Adamant
evs: 248 HP / 52 Atk / 56 Def / 152 Spe

  • Defensive Dragon Dance Dragonite presents itself as a bulky and reliable wincon, able to set up thanks to Multiscale and keep itself healthy throughout the match with Roost. see below the paragraph
  • This spread is able to reliably check Smart Strike Kartana while still outspeeding base 110s, like Kartana, Urshifu-R, (AC) and Hydreigon after a Dragon Dance boost.
  • Dual Wingbeat is Dragonite's primary form of STAB, hitting foes like Urshifu-R, Hawlucha, Rillaboom and Volcarona while also having the additional bonus of potentially breaking Substitute thanks to it being a multi-hit move. basic stabs are self explanatory
  • Heal Bell allows Dragonite to stay status-free throughout the match and better check opponents like Heatran and Landorus-T, as well as the ability to prevent itself from being crippled once it begins sweeping from common counterplay like Toxic Landorus-T or Toxapex. see below the paragraph
  • Earthquake allows Dragonite to get punish Steel-types and many other would-be checks, such as Heatran, Tapu Koko, (AC) and Toxapex, while also providing solid neutral coverage for Pokemon like Tapu Fini, Slowking, Ferrothorn and Scizor. dual wingbeat hits all of these harder..
  • Ice Punch is also an option, as it gives Dragonite a way to hit the many Ground and Dragon-types within the tier, such as Garchomp, Landorus-T and opposing Dragonite, while still hitting Grass-types like Rillaboom and Tapu Bulu. This prevents Garchomp and Landorus-T from Toxic-ing you, letting Dragonite not be worn down as easily gonna double check if we wanted this here, keep it for now
  • Roost gives Dragonite the incredible to check Pokemon like Rillaboom, Volcarona and Heatran, stay healthy during it's sweep to prevent it from being revenge killed easily and keep it's Multiscale intact see below. i think a good way to talk about specific usage of roosts is going into detail about its role while sweeping, putting it at optimal hp using multiscale and giving it more opportunities to setup or kill something
i prefer to think of dddnite as a one-time lategame sweeper that can situationally switch into something like watershifu or volc that it knows won't status it (unless ur bell). it isn't used in the same way as the defensive set above and won't be coming out often before sweeping time

  • Dragonite functions extremely well with other potent wallbreakers, so the likes of Kartana, Urshifu-R and Tapu Lele can help overload Dragonite's check's like Toxapex, Corviknight, and Clefable while creating a frightening offensive core.
  • Hazard support is greatly appreciated, as with Stealth Rock up you manage to get valuable chip damage on opponents like Garchomp, opposing Landorus-T and Heatran. This makes Landorus-T , Ferrothorn and Heatran solid partners. Heatran in particular can trap Toxapex and handle Steel-types like Corviknight, Skarmory and Ferrothorn which Dragonite struggles with, making it a very good partner for it.
  • Magnezone makes for a very solid partner for Dragonite, being able to trap Skarmory and Corviknight so Dragonite doesn't have to worry about them. move this up
  • Offensive pivots like Tapu Koko, Zeraora, Landorus-T, (AC) and Urshifu-R can position Dragonite excellently, giving the most opportune moment to set up while also being able to chip down opponents with U-turn and Volt Switch. what are they pivoting on specifically for dnites setup opportunities

Other Options
====

  • Dragon Dance Dragonite can opt for Extreme Speed as a strong form of priority, being able to KO revenge killers like Weavile that would normally handle it with priority moves like Ice Shard, however it offers no other form of coverage and Roost is crucial to keeping Dragonite healthy and being able to sponge hits with Multiscale. espeed sucks
  • can consider putting water move on defensive dnite here to hit volc/tran/grounds in one slot
  • Offensive Dragon Dance Dragonite is also a viable option, reducing it's investment in bulk to it's Attack and Speed, with it's main goal being to use it's great ability in Multiscale to set up a Dragon Dance freely and start cleaning the opponent's team. However, this removes a lot of Dragonite's valuable defensive utility and is often not as effective. learn2apostrophe fam... u can mention ice punch here iyw
Checks and Counters

**Fairy-types**: Unaware Clefable is a complete stop to Dragon Dance Dragonite, ignoring it's boosts or using Thunder Wave to cripple it and Moonblast it, unaware clef doesn't run twave. idek why ur focusing on unaware here when u can just talk about any clef and dnite as a whole - rocks clef beats defog dnite with trick/knock + moonblast, utility is a threat with knock/twave to all sets, cm has no issues setting up on it or blowing it back, and unaware can sit on it or set up if it feels like it whereas Tapu Fini is able to fish for Scald burns, Taunt it to prevent Dragonite from setting up or Roosting off damage, or Moonblast it for massive damage. Tapu Fini can also run a Choice Scarf set and Trick it onto Dragonite, both removing it's Heavy Duty Boots and crippling it by forcing a Choice lock against it and stopping any potential sweep. mention lele as a revenge killer for dd with scarf and how specs can get free turns to come in vs defensive and murder it

**Ice-types**: Weavile and Kyurem both pose a major threat to Dragonite, with Weavile being able to OHKO it with Triple Axel, knock off Knock Off it's Heavy Duty Boots, (AC) which forces Dragonite to take Stealth Rock damage and effectively revenge kill Dragon Dance sets with Ice Shard. Kyurem is able to threaten OHKO it with Ice Beam and Freeze Dry, making Dragonite weary of setting up. SubRoost variants also are able to take a couple of hits with Kyurem's great bulk and immediately pressure it back.

**Steel-types**: Ferrothorn, Corviknight, (AC) and Skarmory act as hard walls to Dragonite without Fire Punch, Ferrothorn even being able to Knock Off Dragonite's Heavy Duty Boots and Iron Defense variants of Skarmory and Corviknight being able to 1v1 it with ease.

**Chip Damage**: Dragonite really struggles to deal with Toxic unless it's a Heal Bell set, and Knock Off is a major hinderance as losing Heavy Duty Boots forces you to take Stealth Rock damage. This means that Dragonite's Multiscale is rarely going to be active, so it'll have a much harder time checking Pokemon it should like Kartana and Zeraora.

add a revenge killers point and a dragon types point

:bw/dragonite:

Thanks to the combination of Heavy Duty Boots and Multiscale, Dragonite is able to perform a wide variety of roles on a team. With access to Roost and Heal Bell, as well as a wide offensive movepool, Dragonite is an excellent natural check to the likes of Urshifu-R, Rillaboom, Volcarona, and Heatran. Dragonite is arguably the best answer to Heatran within the tier, resisting Magma Storm, possessing an immunity to Earth Power and able to get rid of status thanks to its defensive typing and Heal Bell. Dragonite is also able to perform as a good win condition with a powerful Dragon Dance set, letting it sweep thanks to its natural bulk, stats, stats constitute natural bulk defensive typing, fantastic ability in Multiscale and great offensive coverage in Dual Wingbeat and Earthquake as well as solid options in Fire Punch and Ice Punch. should be removed since they aren't slashed on the main sets Though Dragonite is a very solid Pokemon, its reliance on Heavy Duty Boots makes it vulnerable to Knock Off and Trick. The removal of Heavy Duty Boots means that it's Multiscale can be broken by Stealth Rock, which means Dragonite will find it much harder to set up if it's Dragon Dance or check the likes of Kartana and Zeraora. Dragonite also has to compete with many other Pokemon in the tier for it's role, like Garchomp and Kartana as strong win conditions and Corviknight and Tornadus as a defogger because of their ability to check Ground and Grass-types better. think u can just change this to flying-type, its defog role is almost negligible Dragonite is susceptible to being overwhelmed by chip damage, as many of the Pokemon it is normally supposed to check like Zeraora, Kartana, Landorus-T, and Heatran often carry either Knock Off or Toxic. Dragonite often relies on it being at 100% for Multiscale almost always, which restricts it to bulky offense teams because of its limited longevity and Roost PP, as well as making it extremely irritated by any physical attacker in the tier clicking Knock Off, U-turn or Toxic, and therefore taking away future switch-in opportunities fix weird spacing and wording here

i already told u this on discord but will get back to u about what to do w sets/slashes. implement what we have now, and qc checker 4 can help u out with the result

Earthquake gives solid neutral coverage on a wide range of the metagame, and hits Heatran, Galarian Slowking, and Magnezone super-effectively, on top of the myriad of Steel-types within the tier like Melmetal, Heatran and Bisharp. separating this into poisons/steels specifically might be better Ice Beam lets Dragonite hit Dragon, Grass, and Ground-types like Garchomp, opposing Dragonite, Rillaboom, Tapu Bulu and Landorus-T.

Toxapex also makes an excellent partner as it's able to divvy out the work between Dragonite and itself while providing a check to Dragapult and Weavile. since we're emphasizing BO u can try to mention fini here instead Specially Defensive Pokemon like Blissey and Scizor can work together with Dragonite to position against and check the likes of Dragapult and Kyurem which take advantage of Dragonite.

Aqua Tail can be considered on Defensive sets due to it's ability to hit Volcarona, Heatran and other Ground-types like Hippowdon is one slot. not relevant anymore Offensive Dragon Dance Dragonite is also a viable option, reducing its investment in bulk to its Attack and Speed, with it's main goal being to use its great ability in Multiscale to set up a Dragon Dance freely and start cleaning the opponent's team. However, this removes a lot of Dragonite's valuable defensive utility and is often not as effective. will get back to u on this

**Fairy-types**: Clefable is a complete stop to Dragon Dance Dragonite, ignoring its boost, use Knock Off orThunder Wave to cripple it and Moonblast it, and Calm Mind sets are able to use it to set up freely. can mention distinction between counterplay with magic guard vs unaware - u can often break past spdef mg because u 2hko at +1 and eat a moonblast while unaware kinda sits on u Tapu Fini is able to fish for Scald burns, Taunt it to prevent Dragonite from setting up or Roosting off damage, or Moonblast it for massive damage.

**Fast Revenge Killers**: Dragonite is naturally slower than a lot of offensive threats, like Tapu Koko, Garchomp, Dragapult and Weavile, all of which are capable of revenge killing Dragonite. emphasize dd especially here

**Dragon-types**: Hydreigon, Garchomp and Dragapult are able to slam Dragonite for super effective damage, leaving it crippled for the remainder of the match and making it much harder to switch into opposing threats.
