DPP OU TEAMBUILDING COMPENDIUM (v 2.0)
The idea of this thread is to provide a visual list of what Pokémon does what in the DPP OU metagame.
All Pokemon included are from BKC's Viability Rankings
Rules:
  • One liners are fine, avoid double posting
  • Don't shitpost and don't be an idiot.
  • When suggesting things to be added/removed, provide decent reasoning as to why something should be added or removed.
  • Don't nominate unviable mons
In front of slash = standard and common, behind = niche and uncommon (usually applies to the specific role but a mon can be niche as a whole)

Got a ton of suggestions, sorry to spam your thread, but I hope this helps.

New additions:
  • Azelf into (good) mixed attackers (Psy/FB + Boom sets)
  • Heatran into (good) mixed attackers (Utility + Scarf Boom sets)
  • Gengar into (good) mixed attackers (LO + Boom sets)
  • Hariyama into (less good) Fake Out users (Toxic Orb AoA)
  • Milotic as a (less good) scarfer (Lead Hypnosis)
  • Suicune as a (less good) scarfer (Utility/AoA)
  • Gengar as a (good) scarfer (insane speedtier w/tools like tbolt and dbond that make it into a great rkiller and has very high lategame potential not being jumped by other scarfers esp flygon and rotom)
  • Breloom as a (borderline) scarfer (Lead Spore)
  • Lucario to (borderline) Specs users (see vacuum wave point)
  • Tyranitar to (less good) Specs users (fun specs set that can lure shit like skarm pert etc for physical offense strats)
  • Infernape to (good) Passho users (can run it on NP)
  • Clefable into (less good) Healing Wish users (not its best set but can be fun on some more offensive teams with like fast sash counter and shit)
  • Forretress into (less good) Light Screen users (somewhat fun set that can give it a cushion vs spinblocking like scarf rotom and gengar)
  • Zapdos into (less good) Reflect users (helps it make up for its tendency to get harassed by ttar + helps vs some random phys shit like pert and friends, recommended alongside toxic or toxic spikes)
  • Froslass to (less good) Taunt users (can be used w/spikes)
  • Latias into (good) RD users (can be a great midgame setter for rain dance teams)
Rank Movements
  • Infernape to (less good) SR (prefers doing other stuff tbh)
  • Empo to (good) SD (very underrated set that can rip through teams)
  • Azelf to (less good) NP (lead sr and cb are just way way better than back np)
  • Infernape to (good) NP (np fb + vacuum wave alone are a headache for a ton of teams to teal with and you get to pick a cvg move of choice and have a ton of good item options)
  • Celebi to (good) NP (fun anti-offense set that boasts fantastic coverage that can really disrupt offensive teams if it gets a boost)
  • Gliscor to (less good) U-turn users (taunt and sd sets are miles better and other rockers are way more consistent/good)
  • Lucario to (good) Vacuum Wave users (underutilized Specs set is very strong and ironically is a solid check for other lucario as well as picking off stuff like weakened DDTar and such)
  • Infernape to (good) Vacuum Wave users (see NP point)
  • Metagross to (good) CB users (who the hell likes switching into CB Mash)
  • Zong to (good) CB users (trick into defensive mons then functioning like a normal zong is pretty solid tbh)

: I personally would add Zapdos to Status: Poison as well. Toxic can work wonders especially on physically defensive variants that don't want to miss hp ice while still being able to make pert question its life choices. I mean there's even the slowpokes and p2. Reflect may be really underrated too like Mannat said.

: Could be added to Status: Sleep. It's already added as a mixed wall and sleep powder is one of its main selling points on this set besides absorbing tspikes. Sleep helps a lot by creating free turns to get out leech seed. It's a bitch to switch into. Really niche mon tho.

/
Regarding utility / status the category Clerics / Heal Bell might be worth adding. While they are generally not seen much in dpp stuff like Bliss or the good ol' Heal Bell Dnite can be viable on certain teams.

with
is really cool and underused on OTR Zong imo. Being able to set up on Heatran and Infernape while still having Levitate is huge. The power loss from Macho Brace is noticeable but with a secondary Trick Room abuser after an early boom this can be really great.

with
: This hasn't been used in tour games in ages and may not be worth adding but in theory Chesto Resto Gyarados can go to town on a lot of teams if paired with pursuit support to trap annoying Rotoms. Has a considerably increased longevity and is able to just come in for Intimidate midgame while being able to clean up lategame because chip doesn't matter too much. Doesn't need Starmie as well.

: To Pivots: U-Turn. U-Turn is really good on this mon after shutting something down with taunt to keep up pressure. Being able to outspeed the whole unboosted metagame besides some irrelevant mons (looking at you Jolteon without BP) helps it a lot.

Thank you all for your responses! This is a community effort and we want this to be as accurate as possible. That being said I did implement most your changes, I didn't add Specs Tyranitar,Lucario or Scarf Suicune since I have not seen these have any play and I believe they are outclassed heavily by their other sets. Hope you can understand my decision to not include them. Thanks again and have a great day!

Well, now that I have a little more time I have seen more things that can be added here.

Choice Scarf:
I think you missed this one from the trio.

Wacan Berry:
I don't see it as crazy on a set with DD so you have support for electric spam and you can increase attack + speed.

Wish:
I don't think it is used much because of the spam fight there is, but I think it should be taken into account.

Sub:
(subpunch)

Clerics:

Rain:
It is not his best role but I think it should be mentioned here. I think it's the only one missing.

Hi there! First of all, good job mate! This is definitely an useful resource. Here are my suggestions:

-Add Empoleon as a (standard) Sword Dance user: SD Empo is definitely an awesome set, and he's commonly used in the current metagame, so I think it deserve to be mentionned.

-Add Celebi as an (uncommon) Sword Dance user: even if SD Celebi isn't the most common of it's sets, it definitely looks like an option that we need to mention to me.

-Add a line for Bulk Up with Machamp and Breloom: there both really niche an uncommon sets, but they also can be real threats for some teams, so I think they deserve to be mentionned here.

-Add Kingdra as a Chest Berry user: DD Rest Chesto Berry Kingdra is a really common set, so I think it's just a a thoughtlessness here.

-Remove Jolteon from Wish users: I feel like since the ban of BP, Wish Jolteon is just bad and unviable.

That's all for me! Thanks for reading, and have a nice day!

BIG UPDATE

Hello all, I hope you have been putting this to good use.

I would just like to bring it to your attention that I have removed a lot of Pokemon, this does not mean I think they aren't viable options on some teams but they don't see enough usage to be included or represent the meta.

If there's anything you feel should be added feel free to suggest it! I hope you can all understand this decision.

That is all! I hope you have a great rest of your day. :psyglad:

Maybe Gengar behind the slash on scarf? Might be one of the ones you purged. But I see it a few times on the ladder from 1300-1500 type people and definitely more often than azelf and shaymin with scarf

Thanks for the suggestion! Instead of adding Gengar I think I will remove Shaymin and Azelf this was a bit of an oversight by me, I don't think they're bad but I'm going to stick with my rule of they aren't seen enough and are often outclassed by another Scarfer to be included.

Take care!

Made some small changes:

-Camerupt is now listed as a stealth rocker and mixed attacker.

-Empoleon has been added as a physical attacker and swords dance sweeper.

-Jirachi has been added as a toxic status spreader.

I believe these Pokemon have proven themselves as very legitimate and thus earned their placement on the compendium. That's all, I might be missing some other Pokemon that have seen some recent usage so if you've got any suggestions feel free to let me know! Thanks and take care.

Hi there, some minor stuff to consider:

- Bulk Up is listed twice on boosting moves section
- Niche and rare but Machamp could be worth appearing as a Bulk Up user
- if Weavile is listed on physical attackers, it makes a lot of sense to list it as a Pursuit user as well
- Gallade: list a niche Trick user? Destiny Bond?
- Making Lum Berry Azelf standard and not niche

Snorlax - Curse & CB:
I don't usually use Snorlax a lot but I think it should be in its version with curse + EQ or FPunch of coverage and CB with Pursuit to catch threats like Star or Latias.

Swampert - Poison:
Pert seems to me like a mon that always complies and with interesting variations. I would include it here in a version with Toxic + Protect it can be a good fit for things like Zapdos or Milotic.

Mamoswine - Knock Off:
I'm a bit surprised by this because I think it's a good Knock Off user as I find it useful for disabling defensive walls or even that pesky Shed Shell in Skarmory.

Yanmega - Specs:
Yanmega I think that in his specs version he wins a lot and deserves to be thanks also to the support of his ability all together.
Hey thanks for the suggestions! I've seen Knock Off Mamoswine and Toxic Swampert discussed and used before I believe they're pretty decent on some teams so I've included them as niche options. I'm a bit more hesitant on Yanmega and Snorlax though, they may not be completely unviable but as of right now I'm not sure they have enough usage to be included. This can of course change in the future though. Thanks again for the help, have a good day.

The SPrinkLer

Banned deucer.
Jirachi is a viable Rain user with thunder as well. And maybe to a lesser extent Roserade. Zapdos can do it w thunder as well. Also I feel like there should be some mention of trick orbs to cripple w burn from like uxie or cress. Also psycho shift w lati / cress can spread burn or sleep

For some reason you have forgotten Honchkrow in the priority section. Honchkrow isn’t used much in OU, but it certainly sees more use than a Gengar running sucker punch (see edit 2).

Edit: In addition, you are missing shadow sneak on Dusknoir, fake out on Weavile and fake out on Hariyama. All niche picks but they see occasional use.
Edit 2 (4 months after first edit): Gengar with sucker punch is now used more than Honchkrow.

Zone -> Shuca Berry.
Feraligatr -> Lum Berry.
Nite - Agility.

I have autism and people ignore me but please consider this ty.

Just to be safe, add Machamp as a Bulk Up user. Its niche but effective as others have said, and also aesthetically pleasing. You could also add Heracross for Bulk Up too; Hera has decent bulk. There's also a lot of slow Pokemon you could add for Quick Claw: Bronzong, Slowbro, Hippowdon, Camerupt, Torkoal etc.

Pideous

World Defender
I think Skarmory :Skarmory: and Latias :Latias: could be considered for the "Mixed Wall" role. Even with the spdef investment to take dracos and surfs, skarm still does well against a lot of physical threats, and lati is just damn hard to kill on the special side. Example - 252 SpA Life Orb Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 8 SpD Latias: 270-318 (74.1 - 87.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recover. With resistances to fire, water and electric, and the ability to wall almost every cm rachi with roar, I think it fits. Also, I think Shaymin :Shaymin: could be moved to niche in the same category, it's not so common. And maybe Hippowdon :Hippowdon: is not so much a "Special Wall"? I think, since it already fits in "Mixed Wall", it isn't so necessary to have it in both, since even spdef Hippo can handle physical attackers like TTar. Maybe the same applies to Skarmory? I'm not sure, I might be misunderstanding how the roles are set up.

Could Zapdos :Zapdos: be considered for niche in the "Agility" role? I don't think it's bad, just more uncommon than Meta and Emp, so maybe slashed in after?

Celebi :Celebi: on the other hand, I really think should be moved behind the line in the "Calm Mind" role - I don't think it's very good or used at all. IMO, offensive sets are outclassed by Nasty Plot, while defensive sets really suffer from losing a utility move like sr, twave, coverage, u-turn, etc and get walled very easily. Could still be considered niche, it isn't useless against something like cm suicune, but Celebi is definitely not a main user of the move.

I think you could consider slashing Starmie :Starmie: and Clefable :Clefable: onto the "Flame Orb" role, as they have trick, don't fear burn, and often face physical attackers like Meta and TTar. For Clefable, I don't think it is too different to the existing "Sticky Barb" role. Starmie can also threaten Heatran so the trick can't be so easily absorbed. I don't think either of these sets are so great, but they at least aren't worse than flame orb Cresselia.

Would it be possible to include a section for type boosting items, i.e the Plates and stuff like Sea Incense? Just some of the ones that see some use, like Splash Plate is quite good on Empoleon :Empoleon: for example. Could maybe reference a niche for stuff like Earth Plate Flygon :Flygon:, and perhaps stuff like Draco Plate Latias :Latias:, Iron Plate for Jirachi :Jirachi: and Scizor :Scizor: , Meadow Plate for Celebi :Celebi:? I'm sure there are plenty others I'm forgetting or don't know, but it might be a useful section to include.
