Having 122 speed on diancie under twind allows it to outspeed fini, bulu, volcanion, standard lando spreads, AV kyube, cress, suicune, and a couple other mons. There's no reason to take away the 31 speed IVs since the team isn't dedicated to TR. Having diancie on the team allows me to reverse TR against opposing TR teams while also letting me take advantage of it for teams that have twind, Icywind, or webs for speed control.

That's perfect then. Just like knowing what to expect to out speed etc.

Here is my best team and 2nd favorite team ever. It got me to top 16 of seasonals, which is by far my best. Also to playoffs of Live Challenge. Its original, beat some great players, and I am really proud of it.
Almost always I lead with Goth + Ludi to set TR or Rain, which ever is most favorable. At some point set up TR to make broken Diancie diamond storm for 4 or 5 turns. Then bring in CharY to set TW on the last turn to clean up. Thats typically how matches go with this team.

rip Gen 7.

Here are 3 teams I built at the late end of the meta that I had fun using. Each is built from a Kanto starter.

1572775175037.png1572775197503.png1572775207963.png1572775217504.png1572775230922.png1572775239368.png

Charizard
https://pokepast.es/a782d1a8f7ef06eb

Hyper offense team designed to blow holes in opposing teams and keep pressure going through the whole match. In an ideal scenario, you use Charizard Y to set sun and Tailwind so specs Heatran can use Eruption at full power. Tsareena removes rocks for Zard, uses Feint to stop Protect stalling, and blocks Fake Out to keep your momentum up. Pheramosa applies fast and frail offensive pressure. The other mons run pretty standard sets and need no explanation.

1572775477520.png1572775491167.png1572775502092.png1572775514778.png1572775524666.png1572775538170.png

Blastoise
https://pokepast.es/379461a6a93dd484

My take on a "hard rain" team - most of these mons are pretty standard aside from Blastoise, which is UR. In an ideal scenario, Blastoise uses Fake Out to help Pelipper or Kartana set Tailwind. Then you spam rain-boosted Water Spouts before your opponent has a chance to move.

1572775594275.png1572775603785.png1572775615366.png1572775625785.png1572775637586.png1572775647366.png

Venusaur
https://pokepast.es/642e1ae008e46251

This team has good type synergy, is bulky af, and can still maintain good offensive pressure. One flaw is that all of these mons are special attackers, so you're a bit weak to Chansey, but subtox Aegi helps on that front.

As we approach the final hour of Gen 7... i figured ill just pop in and share some teams with all of you guys.

Gen 7 is pretty special to me because it is the first Gen where i officially started my competitive Pokemon journey as a player, so of course i might as well document my adventure in doubles with some of the more meaningful teams that i have used throughout the gen.

Well then without further ado...

This was the one of the first teams i remember building (maybe my second? i honestly dont recall) to use on the ladder back when i just ventured into doubles. It was based around Z conversion Porygon Z with Psych Up M Diancie + Marsh to steal a dying Diancie's boosts. This team was well as you expected, not great. But it did manage to help me break 1500s on ladder which well was quite an accomplishment for me back then. On paper everything seemed 200iq as hell but well in practice, Diancie only got to psych up the boosts like 1/3 of the time lol. That being said, who doesnt love clicking the good ol' Diamond Storm and watching your opponents yell all sorts of expletives at you on the ladder?

Probably the first decent-ish team that I've build for competitive DOU, i remember posting this on RMT and having Level 51 rate it on forums for me; as well as asking AuraRayquaza for test games on PS. Anyways the team was originally based around Swamp rain + BoltFlare from Victini and Kyu-B. The original version had Techno Blast (Water) Genesect as well but well who knew even under rain Techno Blast was still so disappointing in terms of damage output. Overall this team wasn't really that great but it helped pave the way for my entrance to the DOU community so i guess thats a win..?

This was a team originally built by Pinoy + Nido-Rus that Pinoy has kindly shared with me some time early last year before DLT1. It was basically Nido and Pinoy's take on the team used by a really good ladder player (forgot his name oops). Overall pretty solid and fun team and i remember plowing through ladder with CM Moonlight Necrozma. 9/10 would travel back in time and ladder with this agian.

After DLT1 Pinoy and I were talking about building around Z gravity Lando T with Earth Power but nothing we came up with felt satisfactory to me so i went back to the drawing board and came up with this after some time. The general idea was to get Z Gravity and Webs up so that Lando I basically outsped and 2hko everything with STAB + coverage. M TTar was there to act as a backup sweeper that could go in and wreck stuff after Lando died while Amoong does its best to keep damage off the two former mons. This was a pretty fun team although it required a ton of positioning to get Lando into sweeping postion. But goddamn +1 Earth Power just erases stuff its absurd.

This was the Infamous Mono Psychic team built and used by monotype player Saezu that was terrorizing the whole of upper ladder DOU in late SM and early USM. Saezu shared this team with me after i interacted with him a few times on ladder. Overall pretty cool team and is just clicker af so its right up my alley.

This was from back then when i was experimenting with a Zard Y + Nihilego core, which worked better than i thought it would. It also happens to be the first TailRoom team that I've built and successfully used on several occasions on both ladder as well as in test games later throughout the Gen. Rock Z Nihi is extremely potent and absolutely demolishes stuff like FiniZap and Incin which were like super popular at that time. Zard and Nihi also covers each other relatively well since Zard has troubles with stuff like Koko/FiniZap which Nihi handles nicely while Zard helps with Nihi's problem against steels.

I built this during the M Gar era while further experimenting with super bulky Kart variants. Seed Kart is able to just eat SBalls from M Gar and set up tailwind in its face which was awesome, while the rest of Volcanion/Lele/Diancie tries to punch holes into the opposing team. Used it in my first SSNLs match against Milk and won (muddy water miss didnt matter btw). This was also when i fell in love with the Volcanion + KyuB core that is able to just dent anything that tries to switch into both of their unresisted coverage. If i had to pick a favourite team from this gen this would probably be it.

This was just something i built in 18 to mish Yodaisbad2798 with. Minds Blown in sun hit absurdly hard and in case thats not enough, flash fire boosted Z eruption in sun ought to finish off whatever fire resists your opponent planned to check the team with. Victini was really good for trading against TR as well as opposing weather setters. This was originally just a joke but it evolved into one of the more iconic teams/archetypes/memes of DOU and i couldn't be prouder. Shoutouts to GenOne for being the original mono fire GOAT. This is arguably my favourite sand team with the classic TtarExca sand core that i built to ladder with for the second M Gar(?) suspect. Sand itself was leaning towards HO but had not much of a defensive backbone and also lacked answers to opposing rain teams which were well pretty popular on ladder. This led me back to my previous build where i used Kartana+Volcanion+KyuB for the rain matchup so i thought 'Hey why not try something similar?' Overall it did work pretty decently although Zapdos could probably be changed to another set since seed sucks now.

I built this around the idea of Webs Araq which basically provided permanent speed control and a super bulky QD Volcarona variant, with M Gross Lando Bulu and KyuB to just round up the rest of the team while also checking all the relevant stuff eg. Trick Room and Rain. This team performed relatively decent against other players during test games and was just something i felt really comfortable with using.

Yet another DIancie team that i have built earlier this year during July-August. The idea was to just slap a Wish+Ally Switch Chansey onto a team with like 2 setup sweepers and some other fat shit and go to town healing everything back to full like every turn. Overall pretty satisfied with the results and having both Volcarona + Kommo-o on a team to exert setup pressure against the opposing team is just bonkers. And the cherry on top? Ally Swtich mindgames making your opponent doubt their every move. Would probably have been much better if Chans was the usual soft boiled set but well i live for this kind of spice.

Annnd thats all for now!

Shoutouts to Yoda2798 for being bad, SMB for constantly bringing spice to the table and also everyone else that has been a part of my doubles journey so far!

See you again in Gen 8!

I'm just tired
me post aboma team since i like it a lot and no more stuff for me this format. Praise sw/sh

https://pokepast.es/9be16b0f26c302cc

So the team was built around using abomasnow, as the meta is full of ice weak pokemon. Some running up to 4 pokemon weak to ice and most people using the other two pokemon on their team as resists which can switch in on single target ice moves. Note the single target as blizzard is spread and so punishes players who overlook their team's type composition. That said, abomasnow brings ground and water resists which helps when facing rain teams so it solves most issues a team like this would have overwise. It has icy wind which stops abomasnow being dead weight into switches who pressure it as it can lower the speed of switch ins and still give me agency when playing out turns with the team. Salamence was standard offensive tailwind setter for a mega, fitting it nicely to help compensate for the mostly special based team damage with its strong hitting double edge! Cresselia's role is to bring speed control against fast teams with trick room being effective against mostly frail speed based teams. Ally switch I try to fit on most of my teams as the sheer amount of situations you can use it to protect teammates and allow their moves to get off is huge. Heatran brings the all-important steel typing for a team and brings good power with the addition of the firium z overheat on it. Enabling it to nuke something off the field while still providing strong spread damage for the team. Standard support tapu koko is helpful as having a fast defog to remove rocks (which are now common on most teams)helps allow the team to continue switching and making use of the strong defensive typing prowess. With scrafty finishing the team off with fake out support and fighting/ dark coverage to round off things the team would overwise struggle to hit such as cresselia and metagross. Stone edge helps improve the sun match up as it has the bulk to withstand hits from mega charizard y and is able to secure a OHKO in return.

Howdy everyone, this post is doubling as my (63 post late) 1k post and a fun end-of-gen team dump. These are a bunch of teams from around DPL that I never got around to posting, all of which I built with my dad tennisace. Here is a foreword he so graciously wrote for the occasion:

"I first met this user at a VGC competition in Massachusetts. He was decently well known in the scene, yet I still absolutely destroyed him. However, I could tell I probably got lucky and knew he was skilled. Time went by, and he ended up joining Smogon, where he first went under the radar as a DOU backup in SPL, before fully blossoming into the DOU crushing force he is today. This user has been an absolute joy to work with on multiple team tours, always ready to help build and test, and willing to lend an ear for non-Pokemon issues too. I'm proud to call them a teammate and a friend. That's enough about Tman though, this is Jake's post and I guess he's ok too."

Wow I have such great friends!

This is definitely my favorite post-SPL X team. It's not the best team I've built and it definitely has its holes, but Tsareena Volcarona was so fun to use. That was the starting point, as I knew Tsareena would support Volcarona very well. Helping Hand can secure KOs Volcarona otherwise just misses, Power Whip does a surprising amount of damage and is great for smacking Water-types that stifle Volcarona, hazard removal is almost a necessity for Volcarona, Queenly Majesty locks out one of the best ways to stop a boosted Volcarona in Fake Out, and U-turn can get Volcarona or a more suitable partner in safely. Pretty much everything about Tsareena is a boon to Volcarona, and I love how they played with each other. Metagross was Thunder Punch, Landorus was Scarf Stone Edge, and Zygarde had 4th move Stone Edge because the Charizard matchup needed as much help as possible, and Fini had Scald to knock Incineroar into KO range for either of the Ground-types or Volcarona. Icy Wind was super useful on this team as well, since Volcarona, Metagross, and Zygarde all sit in a pretty prime Speed tier to abuse it.

This team was largely born out of tennisace's sick obsession with Ally Switch and our collective obsession with Volcarona (this will be a theme). The goal of this team was to enable the three setup Pokemon with the 3 support Pokemon, which is why Stakataka eschewed Trick Room for other support-oriented moves like Rock Tomb, Ally Switch, and Wide Guard. Rock Tomb and Wide Guard were particularly useful for Latias since Rock tomb makes it faster than basically everything in the metagame, and Wide Guard blocks Snarl and Icy Wind. Volcarona was a really neat utility Pokemon with Tailwind/Rage Powder/Struggle Bug, and Landorus was just an Intimidate/Rocks bot as usual.

This was a squad of 6 that was very similar to some teams I had worked with before (like the team we built for miltankmilk to use in an SPL tiebreaker), but tennisace wanted to try out Excadrill. We made two different versions of the team that basically focused on winning with different parts of the team and supporting with others. Version 1 is more QD Volcarona and SD Excadrill-centric with bulky Tyranitar and Tailwind Kartana, while Version 2 has DD Tyranitar and SD Kartana with support Volcarona and Rapid Spin Excadrill. Tapu Fini is perfect on a squad like this thanks to its vast support movepool, and Landorus filled in holes by providing either hazard support or removal based on the rest of the team. Both of these teams are really fun and really sold me on both Tyranitar and Volcarona, and having so much flexibility in the sets made it even more fun to bring to tournament games.

This team definitely isn't the best I've been involved in building and probably doesn't even crack the top half, but it has a few favorites of mine so I had to include it. Dragon Dance Salamence is all but a relic of the past at this point, but giving it one last ride in DPL was really fun. Scarf Victini was largely meant to eliminate a Salamence check, but crippling a fat mon with Trick is really useful too (also: Victini :blobnom:). Electrium Zapdos was able to remove Tapu Fini and other scary non-slug Water types, and CM Fini was just a secondary wincon.

This one never saw the light of day outside testing, but I think the concept was cool and also has some personal favorite Pokemon. I liked the idea of Latias + Tyranitar since they cover each other's checks pretty well, and I went with a more offensive variant of Tyranitar to play it more aggressively. Tapu Fini really should have been Heal Pulse and probably Madness over Muddy Water + Protect, unboosted Muddy is so weak and Heal Pulse is so strong. Tapu Koko probably could have been Nature Power since the Kyurem-B matchup was sorta iffy, but I stopped making adjustments after I knew I wasn't going to use it in tournament. Really fun squad that I think could be strong, just didn't take it all the way.

Fun little semiroom team inspired by miltankmilk and talkingtree's Band Bulu from SPL X. Diancie is crazy good as a solo TR setter on semiroom, and Mew was great for enabling either speed mode on the team. Band Bulu claims souls and can function well in either Tailwind or TR, and Sub Waterium Volcanion is another powerful Pokemon that likes both Trick Room and Tailwind. I enjoyed the slightly middling speed nature of the team because it meant either speed mode was generally effective at any given time, but the weakness to opposing speed control (particularly Tailwind if they can prevent my Tailwind/TR) is pretty apparent.

Now for the sappy part. When I joined Smogon back in 2013 and the when I started getting involved around 2015, I never expected it to find such a fun community with such great people. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here on Smogon, and I'm beyond thankful for the friendships I've been able to build. As gen 7 comes to a close and we dive into a new game, I'm really looking forward to what the future holds. Thanks to everyone that has made my experience on Smogon so great, apologies if I don't name you personally. Just know that if we've interacted and your name isn't Sogeking, you have been a valuable part of my life. Thanks :bloblul:

tennisace - the reason I'm on Smogon at all really. Thanks for taking a chance on me in SPL 4 years ago and for refusing to let me go since. I'm beyond thankful that we've gotten so close and I'm really happy we're in each other's corners. Just stop sending me cursed images you fucking degenerate >:^{
talkingtree - my partner in crime. I couldn't ask for a better co-lead for the tier we both love, and I love how easily and naturally we work together. Beyond that, another incredible friend that I couldn't have imagined resulting from being active on a Pokemon website, a world without us throwing Contrapoints quotes at each other is really not a world worth living in
Tman - one of my very first and very best friends from pokemon, glad I finally sucked you into DOU hell with me. Super happy that you had a breakout snake performance, just know that when we face each other in team tournaments in the future that I will choke slam you into the ground and laugh at your pain without a second thought
miltankmilk - we've had some ups and downs, but SPL 8 was such an insanely fun experience that I will always cherish. That tournament definitely shaped my gen 7 teambuilding and I have you to thank for that. Also thanks for not letting me use Grassy Seed Zapdos, what a mess that would have been. We'll have to catch another Cubs game sometime, see ya soon friend
kamikaze - thanks for trusting me with so much input in the DOU circuit back in 2017 and for eventually handing over the reins. You were a great example of how to lead a tier and we have you to thank for a lot of the growth and success DOU saw throughout the years
kaori Dawg - kinda weird that I'm tagging myself twice here but whatever. The years of us gathering on Skype and talking into the late hours of the night were incredibly fun, and one of my favorite experiences in DOU so far was spamming the same 2 or 3 teams in tournaments with yall. I miss you both, hope to catch you all again sometime soon
Braverius - I'm 99% sure that the first games of DOU I ever played were with teams you gave me, so thanks for being my gateway into this hellscape wonderland
Mizuhime atomicllamas antemortem Sam and the rest of gogoat - even though we aren't as active anymore, the days of constant wild conversations were super fun and I'm glad I got to know all of you a little bit :D
Philip7086 FlamingVictini Kevin Garrett GL Volkner GMars Gary Hootie and the rest of the pogo central discord - thanks for being a super fun place to talk about a dumb game that makes us all hate our lives, the number of times in my life that i've seen AR pictures of chimchar is much higher than I ever would have expected
Hogg - thanks for always being willing to answer my questions about tournaments and the dou circuit, i appreciate the amount of free reign we've had over the years that's allowed us to build our circuit into something i'm really proud of. much respect for you, keep up the good work
Anubis - thanks for answering all my annoying questions about PS staff stuff when I first became SS/global mod, hopefully it was a fun break from the death threats and slurs from randoms and sogeking alts you've locked
nui - so glad I always have someone to hype up my avatars and CTs, keep inflating my ego and i'm sure we'll be good friends
To anyone else I've forgotten - guess you just weren't important enough, sucks to suck. also thanks :)

I haven't posted stuff in forever, so I thought it was a perfect time to drop some teams as the gen is winding down. I had a lot of fun building different teams through all the different bans and I hope it will be just as fun to build and play in Gen 8!

All the teams will be current DOU teams as I deleted all the cool stuff I had from earlier on.

I wanted to build a Venusaur team as I saw that many teams did not have a lot of ways of touching it and many of its checks had become more uncommon. I like CB Zygarde with Venusaur as it gives the team some offensive pressure which I felt some other Venusaur teams lack. The rest of the mons just had good synergy with the core and it worked out pretty good. I had Specs Tapu Fini to help out with Kyurem a little bit, but I found it was not as good in other matchups as it got worn down too easily.

Yoda2798 helped build this team that I used in DPL. I thought Diancie was very good when I built this team and I found that it worked best on semi-tr teams. The Victini is Assault Vest with Glaciate and Psychic to add some speed control outside of Trick Room and make the Venusaur matchup slightly playable. I used this team many times after DPL and I found it to be very effective.

I liked the Diancie+Lurantis core on semi-room so much that I decided to build another team with it. This team has more fast mons with Tapu Koko and Scarf Genesect and a more reliable form of speed control out of Trick Room with Tailwind. The nicks are songs off Bjork's Homogenic cuz it's a cool album.

I built this team very late into the gen, but it has been a lot of fun to use. I had been trying to make Azumarill work for a while and I found I wasn't able to cover everything very well with other redirectors. I found Volcarona to be the best redirector as it was able to provide speed control and check steels as one mon which lead to more room with the other mons. Mega-Diancie is another pokemon that can be hard to build around, but I found it to be perfect here as it really helps out the Charizard and Kyurem matchups.

This is another fun Mega-Diancie team I built featuring Latias and a cool Kartana set. I noticed a lot of the Mega-Diancie teams I was building auto-lost to Venusaur, so I thought Latias could be cool to beat it and sort of act as a more offensive Mew without Rocks. The Kartana is also Darkinium to help the Metagross matchup. Fightinium might be better in a lot of matchups, but its less fun. The team is not the greatest and TR matchup is pretty terrible, but it is a lot of fun to use.

This team is very standard and I am sure there are many people with teams like this with 5 or 6 of the same mons. This one is older than the other teams which can be shown through some of the sets like Groundium Landorus-T, but I think it is still fairly solid now and it was reliable for a long time. It is just a standard Metagross balance team that works very well.

When I built this one it had Pheromosa > Scrafty and it was just very funny to use Pheromosa in a fullroom team, but then I noticed that specs fini + m-snowman + goth + stakataka + incin actually all have some really nice typing combinations and they worked quite nicely together so I decided to stop trolling with the phero and add a second fake out. The team can be a bit sketchy at times and it has some really terrible match ups (volcanion) but it is really fun and definitely functional

I think this was originally a miltankmilk team and I just swapped a couple mons around tbh, don't really remember what the original was though. Either way this thing just wants to durdle a lot and get hella residual down between Stealth Rocks, Leech Seed, and Sand, with Heal Pulse Fini and Roost Kyurem-B keeping stuff generally healthy, and Genesect finishing stuff off. In the meta where this was built (last DPL) I liked it a lot but as Defog and SR got more popular I started liking this less and less, it really hates playing against sr and it really hates not having sr up either. Was cool for its time though

This is objectively the best team I've ever built in any tier ever. Sun, Room, and PsyTerrain all help each other a ton, and generally whenever two of them are up I'm having a good time. Sun means Vic is unlocked and I have stronger Overheats for better control outside of TR, stronger Eruptions and Moonlights once in TR. PsyTerrain means Sleep Powder is free and fake outs can't break Vic's sash or stall out Trick Room turns. And TR Torkoal+Stakataka+Lele with Cress support is just fucking mental. Manectric with Snarl+Intim sets the field up nicely for easy transitioning and setting up of all three field conditions. This team is really really really REALLY fun to play and it's actually competitive too, I brought it in DLT semis which is probably the biggest game of DOU I've ever played.

based off of Arash Ommati’s (Mean_vgc) 2018 worlds team. i changed up the sets and spreads of the mons to better fit the DOU metagame how i saw it.

fini wasn’t as prevalent as it was a couple months ago so i swapped it out for a team supporting milotic. the standard icy wind support wasnt cutting it so i looked through the list if status moves it had to see what could have worked. I saw hypnosis and coil; a combination that raises hypnosis accuracy without breaking the gravnosis ban, while simultaneously boosting milotics physical bulk. this pokemon has singlehandedly won me games i shouldn’t have through sleep turns and being a massive wall that let me soak up hits while dishing out decent damage after a competitive boost or two.

After playing with the team on ladder i felt that volcarona didn’t need the z move as much as it did in vgc. i swapped it for a 50% berry and gave the z move to persian to improve the overall bulk of the team. this proved to be the best choice as i could now launch a somewhat strong z move off of foul play or i could restore an allies hp to full with z parting shot.

I finished kind of burned out of sm, mainly because everytime I played a game I felt like I had already played it a hundred times before and I don't like that feeling. This would have probably changed if I had had the time to focus properly on the tour but some irl stuff was drowning me back then which made this last sm experience less enjoyable
Although, I'll still have a good memory of this gen because it was when I started playing dou on smogon and this made me know some really great people. I'd like to thank the people that helped me to stick to dou when I was starting to play, mainly Nido-Rus who helped me build my first sm teams and Memoric who drafted me for my first dpl when he literally had no reason to since my best result in dou was like r4 on a ssnl.

Hi All! I'm a first time poster, but, since Gen 7 Doubles OU is on the way out, I wanted to share my team idea with you guys. I've had many people tell me it's one of the most interesting/original set-ups they've run across, and I've never seen anyone else running it. It's easy and fun. I suck at battles/mind reading generally, but I've ridden this latest team to an over 1700 rating, and I bet someone more skilled than I am could have gone even higher. It blows through most lower level teams easily (my last couple teams had 14 and 19 straight wins respectively to begin with).

I've played teams based around a single theme for about a year. In an ideal situation, Suicune and a partner with fake out and a weak volt switch (Togedemaru has the very useful lighting rod ability, but Smeargle or Mew could also work) lead, partner provides cover while Suicune tailwinds (or roars the trick room setter out), then partner volt switches out off of Suicune, triggering a weakness policy, and Suicune surfs out specially defensive Politoed wearing an eject button (Pelipper could also work) and hopefully an opposing team member or two. With speed, power and rain, Suicune is a force to be reckoned with and pretty hard to kill because of his bulk. Other team members could vary, but Ludicolo, Tapu Fini and Mega Salamance provide different complimentary coverages and defense and can survive Suicune's surf. It would be good to develop other leads as well (like Ludicolo and Politoed) if you play this at a high level. A lot of the benefit and fun is the surprise factor, which this post doesn't help with I suppose. However, I'd be thrilled to see others experimenting with and having fun with this concept, though it won't be so easy with Gen 7 Doubles OU drying up and Suicune banned in Gen 8 (anyone else feel like Gen 8 Doubles will be like playing a glorified DUU?). Anyway, that's it.

When I first got into DOU back in early 2018, I was eager to build a team around Mega Diancie. I had used a few different Mega Diancie teams over the months, but I feel like this one is probably my favorite among them. I had been using these five mons but with Milotic over Gastrodon, but after seeing emforbes use Gastrodon over Milotic, I decided to make the switch. (I know there are still some differences in sets though.) I know that HP Fire became a pretty standard move on Mega Diance to snipe Kartana, so that may be worth running over Substitute.

I came up with this team after facing EmbCPT on the ladder who was using these six mons but with Cresselia over Mew. Main things worth talking about with this team are deciding to go with Mixed Salamence with Tailwind, which made me willing to run Substitute over Tailwind on Kartana. On Gastrodon I decided to run Muddy Water over an Ice move since I already had an Ice move on Mew. Speaking of Mew, the set here is very similar to the one in the Stax sample, but with a few tweaks. I decided to change Ice Beam and Tailwind to Icy Wind and Taunt. I really loved this change as it gave me speed control and Ice coverage in the same slot, which gave me room to run Taunt, which was great for stopping many status moves (Stealth Rock, Tailwind, and Trick Room being the big ones). I also shifted 4 EVs from Defense to Speed, which let me speedtie -1 Deoxys-A while also having the speed advantage against opposing Stax Mews, allowing me to Taunt them before they could use Tailwind or Stealth Rock.

So I hadn't made an SM team in months, and coming up for facing Stax in Live Tour Playoffs (by which I mean 5 minutes before playing) I wanted a team that could handle the wack teams he'd been using, but none of the teams I had felt super great for them. So I wracked my brain and came up with the idea of using one of my all-time favourite Pokemon, Volcarona. It's a real threat, particularly when paired with the nowadays rarely seen strategy of redirection. Aside from Follow Me, Clefairy boosts Volcarona's bulk just by being on the field, and it's slow with Encore/After you to deal with Trick Room. Transform Mew is a really fun set and works well with setup so that's also here. Then, Fini is another setup user and generally good Pokemon, while Metagross and Landorus-T help round out the team into something fairly solid. This team is quite fun and has done pretty well in the games I've brought it.

Now that my invitationals run is over I figured I should post a team.

:blissey: :kommo-o: :genesect: :tapu koko: :metagross-mega: :incineroar:

Soon after people realised that Chansey was viable I had always wanted to build a CM Blissey team. Blissey was less immediately threatening than other CM mons like Tapu Fini or Mega Latias but was much harder to kill. I finally brought it in Live Challenge playoffs vs Memoric but he brought Taunt + Natures Madness Fini and I got 6-0'd. So I had to go back to the drawing board. Blissey had a major issue with being so passive, even at +1, and its bulk wasn't enough to make it worthwhile over Latias or Fini in most cases. When I was preparing to play Stax for invitationals I noticed he often brought teams without a Tapu, which let me use Simple Beam + Kommo-o, which was another combination I had really wanted to use. I realised that Simple Beam could help solve Blissey's issue of needing multiple Calm Minds to be a threat and having two mons that would benefit from Simple Beam prevented it from being a wasted move slot. This team is what I came up with.

Blissey (F) @ Electric Seed
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Def / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Voice
- Flamethrower
- Calm Mind
- Soft-Boiled

Kommo-o @ Kommonium Z
Ability: Soundproof
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Clanging Scales
- Flamethrower
- Flash Cannon
- Protect

Genesect @ Wiki Berry
Ability: Download
EVs: 120 HP / 112 Atk / 24 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- U-turn
- Iron Head
- Ice Beam
- Simple Beam

Tapu Koko @ Light Clay
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Taunt

Metagross-Mega @ Metagrossite
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- Ice Punch
- Stomping Tantrum
- Protect

Incineroar @ Figy Berry
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 24 Def / 216 SpD / 16 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Flare Blitz
- Knock Off
- U-turn

The goal of the team is to set up either Kommo-o and/or Blissey and sweep, using Simple Beam to rack up quick boosts if you can position Genesect well. Screens Koko helps you take hits while you position your mons to set up and provides terrain to proc Blissey's Electric Seed. Metagross provides some offensive presence. Incin is Incin. Blissey felt quite good in most of the games that I played with it and I would recommend anyone looking for something more interesting to bring in SM in the future to give Blissey some thought. Overall the team can be kinda matchup based, some teams can barely touch Blissey at all but other teams have enough physical threats to keep Blissey at bay. SMB rain in particular is a scary matchup because of Helping Hand Gothitelle and the lack of Protect on this team.

Replays:
Invitationals Top 8 vs Yoda Blissey gets to +2+6+6 and sweeps, taking 22% from a Mega Metagross Iron Head through Reflect at one point. If Yoda got some Muddy Water drops on Blissey it might have been bad but I think Blissey was too bulky to die to anything but a Metagross crit by that point.
Invitationals Top 16 vs Stax Blissey got crit before it could do anything but it forced in Diancie and Stax attacked it to proc Weakness Policy, allowing Kommo-o to clean up the endgame.

This is a team that I used twice in Invitationals, though I've actually been using it even before I suddenly disappeared from the community mid-2018. I rebuilt it from memory since I felt that this kind of HO could play really well in the current SM meta, with not much guys respecting Deo-A much + this kind of HO felt really comfortable in my hands. I feel confident against most matchups with it as I feel like it has the options to break most builds down; I had lines of play ready even for Trick Room, with Aegislash, Nature's Madness Tapu Lele, and Deoxys-A playing a key role at lead and with Zard + Zyg handy for pressuring at the reset. I used Max Speed Modest Aegislash on this build simply because I constantly play it aggressively, so might as well take my chances to blow up a slow Tapu Fini + it's handy in Tailwind. Deoxys-A is Life Orb because there's really so much power present in its hits, with Shadow Ball having a chance to KO MGross (100% if I went for Rash). Naganadel is there because it's another Tailwind bot + Fire Blast cooks Mega Metagross + getting +1 Speed after kills is really handy for pinning faster foes in an offense matchup.

The framework of this team was inspired by the one Stratos used in Snake; though we shared 5 mons, the sets are different enough all around and my choice of Kartana over Genesect is one that he likes to rib me on. The idea of the team as a concept was complete control; with three different forms of Speed control in Tailwind, Trick Room, and Sticky Web available, I feel like I can constantly be in position to dictate the pace of a game. As a player, having options is something I value, and this presents numerous in terms of how to possibly attack matchups. Don't kill me on the spreads here, I'm pretty sure I just stole them (was built at the point where I was only starting to regain motivation to play). Not much else to say about the team really; I genuinely loved playing with this team a lot in tours as well as the ladder. I peaked #1 with this team too at one point.

There's actually one more team I loved using; however, it's actually not totally mine. It's really a counterfeit version of Demantoid's W3 Snake team that I rebuilt off the replay as soon as I saw it, with some personal touches here and there. I loved how it looked, I felt that the strat could feel sinister in my hands and it showed with the results that I got with it. I'm not gonna talk much about it since, again, not my team lol but here's a copy of my version
