Project Don't Use That, Use This! (Closed)

Grumpig @ Mago Berry
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Substitute
- Recycle

There are many, many options if you want something better than Tropius, even if you're really set on that berry theme. Mago Berry Grumpig, while slightly less bulky on the defensive side than Tropius, makes up for it with an impressive 110 SpD and a far superior typing. All this is augmented by the ability Thick Fat, which halves the damage Grumpig takes from Fire and Ice-type attacks. Additionally, Recycle allows Grumpig to refresh its berry 100% of the time compared to the 50% chance Tropius' has of recovering its berry through Harvest. Grumpig has a far better offensive presence with 90 SpA to Tropius' 72, allowing it to be much more threatening if it is allowed to set up a substitute. Finally, Grumpig comfortably checks things Tropius could never dream of, such as Rapidash, Monferno, and any Combusken set.

Set 1:

Swanna @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Big Pecks
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Mirror Move
- Brave Bird
- Liquidation
- Aqua Jet / Roost

Swanna is a better Flying-type sweeper due to its unresisted STAB combination and access to a better offensive stats, stronger STAB moves and priority. It also offers more defensive utility due to its ability to check Floatzel, Silvally-Fighting, Machoke and Combusken just to name a few.

Set 2:

Jumpluff
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Strength Sap
- Acrobatics

Jumpluff may have overall worse stats than tropius but it has access to a far higher speed tier than Tropius, allowing it to force more switches and having a easier time using Substitute. This better speed tiers also allows it to revenge kill Pokemon that Tropius can't such as Silvally-Fighting, Shiftry and Monferno.

Uh... voting was supposed to end over, like, 3 weeks ago. Tuthur1, do you mind starting up the new slate?
I didn't lose any interest in this thread, I just got really busy for the past weeks.

So here are the results:
Set 1:
Fraxure @ Dragonium Z
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
-Stomping Tantrum
- Superpower / Poison Jab / Aqua Tail

Fraxure is surely the best dragon dance user in the current metagame thanks to a correct attack, a pretty good talent and an insane movepool which allows it to pass the biggest threat of the meta. Its dragon type is near non-resisted in the metagame due to the absence of good fairy and steel type.
Outrage is a powerful move which helps Fraxure to clean the game once steel type have been remove (most part of time Bronzor)
Stomping Tantrum may help Fraxure to kill mon like Electivire or Rapidash and especially Bronzor.
The last move depends of what you need and is mostly here in case you are facing a Mon that Fraxure can't pass whit the 2 others moves.
Set 2:

Next slate is opening very soon.

Slate 12: Heatmor

Set 1: Choice Scarf

Heatmor @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fire Blast
- Giga Drain
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Electric]

Set 2: Tank

Heatmor @ Aguav Berry
Ability: Gluttony
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fire Lash
- Knock Off
- Low Kick / Stomping Tantrum
- Recycle

Set 3: All Out Attacker

Heatmor @ Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fire Lash
- Thunder Punch / Stomping Tantrum
- Knock Off / Sucker Punch
- Low Kick / Giga Drain

Heatmor got a very wide movepool with a lot of coverage option and a powerful signature move in Fire Lash. Heatmor offensive stats aren't bad either which lets it be played both on special side and on the physical. However Heatmor is very weak to hazards and doesn't have a very good bulk which makes it lose quickly its health. Furthermore due to its low speed, it gets easily forced out by a lot of Pokemon in ZU such as the Silvally formes, Swanna and Shiftry.

I will add sets description later

Set 1 : /

Set 2 : Simisear
Simisear @ Aguav Berry
Ability: Gluttony
EVs: 244 HP / 12 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Fire Blast
- Taunt / Grass Knot
- Recycle

The main reason for the superiority of Simisear over Heatmor is its better speed which reduces the chances of getting Taunt and allows it to be a really good cleaner.
Moreover it's a pretty never-seen set so you can easily bait a more classic Simisear set such as scarf.

Set 3 : Rapidash
Rapidash @ Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Wild Charge
- Drill Run
- Morning Sun

Rapidash is the best ZU Fire type, it has better stats than Heatmor and its movepool is really good whit an access to an healing move (Morning Sun), Flare Blitz is a strong stabb, wild charge and drill run help it to deal whit mon like Swanna, Electivire, Vullaby or Mareanie if needed.

I will add sets description later

Set 1 : Octillery
Octillery @ Choice Specs
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Fire Blast
- Energy Ball
- Ice Beam
Octillery is currently unranked and can't therefore be used as a replacement for Heatmor (actually I'm planning to have a slate dedicated for Octillery).

Set 1: Scarf Rapidash

Rapidash @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- High Horse Power
- Wild Charge
- Will-O-Wisp / Toxic / Megahorn

Rapidash is a better Choice Scarf user than Rapidash due to better damage outputs and mainly a far better speed tier, which allows Rapidash to revenge kill Z-Celebrate Leafeon, Z-Rain Dance Swanna and Scarf Electivire just to name a few. Rapidash is also more reliable due to its move not having a chance to miss and having higher BP and also a better offensive coverage.

Set 2: Bulky Monferno

Monferno @ Eviolite
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 100 HP / 252 Atk / 156 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Close Combat
- Slack Off
- U-turn

Monferno is just a pinch less bulky than Heatmor with this spread thanks to its Eviolite, but is a better pivot than Heatmor due to its access to U-turn and neutrality to Stealth Rock. BDespite having a lower raw Attack stat, Monferno is scarier due to its Fighting STAB and better speed tier forcing out Pokemon such as Golem, Komala or Shiftry that don't mind staying on Heatmor.

Set 3: Firium-Z Rapidash

Rapidash @ Firium-Z
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- High Horse Power / Will-O-Wisp
- Wild Charge / Will-O-Wisp
- Morning Sun

Rapidash does everything Heatmor does but better. First thanks to its higher speed tier it doesn't rely on Sucker Punch to deal with half of the tier (like it can deal with Swanna), second it hits far harder thanks to its move better BP. Also unlike Heatmor it doesn't faint quickly thanks to its access to Morning Sun. Rapidash also brings defensive utility with Flame Body+Will-O-Wisp allowing it to check Pokemon such as Pawniard, Shiftry or Leafeon.

Set 1: Scarf Simisear

Simisear @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Focus Blast
- Grass Knot
- Hidden Power Ice/Hidden Power Electric
Simisear outclasses Heatmor in every possible way, including as a scarfer. Simisear's access to the coveted 101 speed tier allows it to outspeed a lot of things Heatmor could never even dream of, and the fire monkey has better coverage to boot.

Set 2: "Defensive" Rapidash

Rapidash @ Aguav Berry
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 184 Atk / 72 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- High Horsepower
- Morning Sun
- Will-O-Wisp
Anything Heatmor can do, Rapidash can do better, including more defensive sets. Rapidash can put EVs into Def to abuse its Flame Body ability and fast Will-O-Wisp. Thanks to Rapidash's access to Morning Sun, this set even provides reliable recovery. Fire isn't a good defensive typing at the best of times, so if you're going to use a Fire-type defensively you're much better off with a set such as this which still retains a lot of offensive pressure and can spread burns around the opposing team.

Set 3: Guts Flareon

Flareon @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Facade
- Superpower
- Flame Charge/Quick Attack
Flareon isn't a very good mon, but Rapidash and Simisear were taken so here we are. Flareon hits like a nuclear bomb, with 538 Atk after a toxic orb trigger. Heatmor can't even come close to that kind of wallbreaking power. Flareon also has options like Flame Charge or Quick Attack to deal with faster threats without relying on Sucker Punch.

Hey, Tuthur1, do I have to make submissions for all sets, or can I make submissions just for 1 set?

Set 1: Scarf Electivire

Electivire @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Motor Drive
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Volt Switch
- Wild Charge
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch
No matter how hard you attempt to strive to make Heatmor "look good", Electivire will always be the better choice. To be specific, the Scarf variants of those. Electivire packs much better damage output than Heatmor, having an easier time KOing targets Heatmor would struggle to KO, not to mention that Electivire is also much faster, being able to outspeed a lot more threats which Heatmor wouldn't, and simply put, Electivire packs better coverage than Heatmor, while also not having the possibility of failing to land a hit due to the move missing and then dying in return, thus making it more reliable as a Choice Scarf user.
