This is the thread for people to announce their desire to become either the Buff Leader (BL) for this Buff Cycle. Do not suggest other users. If someone wants to become the Buff Leader, they will post on their own, and if they don't have a strong urge to be it then they shouldn't be signing up anyway. The CAP project requires the utmost dedication and a substantial amount of free time, especially to lead, meaning that only those who have carefully considered the magnitude of their application will apply at all. If you are not prepared to fulfill all of the responsibilities to the very end, then do not throw your hat into the ring. The buffing process is expected to last 2 weeks after its initialization.

Before applying it is important to read and understand the following posts
Topic Leadership
CAP 5 - Policy Review Summary

We are looking to fill the following position to help us lead this Buff Cycle:
  • Buff Leader: In the public's eyes, this is the leader of the project. The Buff Leader's responsibiltiy is to lead discussion about the CAP's current role, scope for buffs, and to create the slate of Major and Minor Buffs. The Goal of the Buff Leader is "quality control" rather than "project control", and their focus should be synthesizing community consensus.
Buff Leaders should have the following qualifications:
  • Deep knowledge of the game of Pokemon
  • Familiarity with competitive Pokemon concepts, strategy and philosophy, as practiced within Smogon
  • Willing to voice opinions and lead others
  • Open-minded to new ideas
  • Creative, "outside-of-the-box" thinker
  • Good writing skills
  • Level-headed when resolving disputes
  • Liked and respected by the CAP community
Once this CAP starts, the Buff Leader will be among the most important, most visible members of the CAP community, and they are expected to be a strong guiding force throughout the buffing process. If you are selected for any of these positions, you will have a great deal of power to influence the project. But you also have a responsibility to stay on top of things. You will have forum moderators to help you, but you need to be regularly active on the project until it is complete. All potential candidates should look through both the Topic Leadership Guide and the CAP Process Archive, to get an idea of what will be expected of you, if you are selected to be the Buff Leader.

This thread is strictly for candidacy posts and posts supporting those candidates. Please stay on topic. Below are the guidelines for posting in this thread:

  • Candidates will benefit from highlighting their active involvement throughout the duration of a recent CAP project. Involvement in multiple CAP projects is strongly preferred.
  • Do not suggest other people. If you want you encourage someone else to run, then send them a PM or talk to them on the PS! CAP chatroom or the CAP Discord channel.
  • If you are new to the CAP project, do not sign up in this thread. Instead, spend a project or two lurking, learning, and participating first.
  • Include a summary of your involvement in the CAP project.
  • Make a pitch for why you should be selected. If you can't present and defend yourself, then you can't expect to lead a project whose primary function is discussion and debate. Convince us that you are a good choice.
  • Even if you don't think you are better qualified than certain other candidates, you still should consider posting your application. Candidates not selected as Buff Leader for this project will be on the watch list by the PRC for next time around. Don't post your name if you don't intend to be active in the project, even if you are not selected, since people will be scrutinizing your involvement more closely.
  • Feel free to post support for any candidates already named.
  • Do not post disparaging remarks about any candidates.
If these rules are not followed, the offending user will be subject to moderation.

These signups will remain open until the conclusion of the Defunct CAP Buff Poll

GP & NU Leader
hlelo,

Been around CAP for a good bit of time now and have a lot of experience with the metagame (see: vr council, metagame council, won CAP seasonal, strong team tour performances last year) that would help greatly in guiding these buff processes. While I wasn't the most active with CAP 29 as the process went on, I made a good few posts early on with regards to ability---specifically defending Color Change as a reasonably decent ability, which seems to be a bit more agreed on now---and typing. While I have very strong opinions about matters involving the metagame, I'm still very willing to listen to the other side for the sake of better understanding why they think the way they do and believe this would be helpful in the role of buff leader.

Hi! I'm dex18 and I'd like to be the first buff leader.

First, I'll detail my involvement in CAP. I've been a fairly active contributor to the past two CAPs: Miasmaw and Chromera. I've gained a fairly good understanding of the process from those two, and what goes into making a successful project. In both projects I advocated for non-standard solutions to the problems we attempted to tackle in both of those projects. For example, I pushed for Miasmaw to get Download over Neutralizing Gas during CAP 28's ability stage, and I was a strong proponent of a fast, offensive spread for Chromera during CAP 29's stats stage. I do my best to get people to think outside of the box when it comes to a project's issues. Just to throw it in there, my favorite CAP is Equilibra because of its insane role compression and Doom Desire mindgames are incredibly fun.

Outside of the process, I am a very active metagame player. I've been one of the few "ladder heroes" left, and would love to see the mons that get spammed there actually be viable and demand respect in the builder. Additionally, I've built a number of times with some of the mons up for the buffing process, namely Kitsunoh and Voodoom, which I built for quziel's team competitions (some have been unlucky enough to run into the Voodoom team on ladder and to those people I sincerely apologize). Outside of that, I have participated in every CAP tournament dating back to the last Snake Draft (excluding Roxiee's monotype tournament which I just didn't know about).

My primary goal for this buffing process would be to make sure every voice is heard in the conversation. Since we are charting unknown waters here, making sure everyone's thoughts are heard is a great way to ensure every option is looked at. My hope is that I can challenge the members of the CAP community to think creatively when it comes to this process, and to attain a result that accomplishes the buff with aplomb.

Hey guys, it's me Darek, and I'll be running for Buff Leader for this cycle.

Compared to others, I'm relatively new to the CAP Process- I started with CAP around the time of Isle of Armor and lurked for Astrolotl's process. Since then, I have been an active participant in both Miasmaw's and Chromera's processes, earning the Ladybug Badge for my contributions to CAP28. I notably submitted Miasmaw's(albeit controversial) Bug/Dragon typing and recently built Birkal's team for Chromera's Inaurugal game. Although I lack prior leadership experience in CAP, I have learned a lot about the CAP process, community, and metagame, and this knowledge I believe makes me qualified to lead the buffing process.

Furthermore, I'm a very active player of the CAP metagame, most well known as "that one guy that uses Miasmaw." My solid performances in Forum Tours have proven me a skilled CAP player; I made Top 4 of the CAP28 Playtest and went 4-1 in CAP Snake Draft for instance. In fact, a Miasmaw team I built for CAP Snake was featured as a Smogon Team of the Week. I'm also very active in the CAP Room Tours and have recently been pretty actively chatting on the CAP discord and Showdown room.

As Buff Leader I will ensure that all voices are heard and all ideas get the discussion they deserve. My goal will be to find a creative and unique solution to the CAP's problems that adheres to the original concept as best as possible, creating a CAP that is competitively viable, fun to use, and encourages thoughtful play on both sides.

Throwing my hat in the ring.

My competitive involvement in CAP
  • Typing Stage Leader for Astrolotl
  • Snake Draft w/ the Red Hot Pyroaks (won)
  • Equilibra Playtest (semifinals)
  • CAPPL 6 w/ the Galactic Astrolotls
  • Actively participating since CAP 24
  • Lurking since CAP 21
Other involvement
  • Created banner for Intro to SS CAP thread
  • Sprite submissions for CAPs 24 & 26
  • Art submissions for CAPs 24 & 25
Since this is a community project, I prefer a “hands-off” approach when leading. I try to give the community enough of a foundation to launch from, and let the users forge the path the discussion takes. I learned from my time leading Astrolotl that I need to challenge ideas to avoid locking into an option prematurely. I currently have the most flexibility with my schedule. This will allow me to put forth the time and energy this process will require.
