Introduction
It's a fact that many Pokemon in today's metagame suffer from a bad typing. Pokemon such as Charizard and Abomasnow are perpetually hampered by their crippling 4x weaknesses to some attacks. Wouldn't it be great if they could rid themselves of this burden and blossom with a fresh typing? Well, now you can, with Camomons! Each and every Pokemon become the types of the first two moves in their moveslots! Undershadowed Pokemon can now experience a new life in this OM. Even popular Pokemon can transform to fit and match the player's desires. Anything is possible!

Rules
Mechanic: Pokemon change their type to match the types of their first two moves in their moveslots. Pokemon with multiple moves of the same type in their first two slots will have only one type. Types are revealed to the player instantly upon being sent out.

Strategy and Preliminary Set Samples

Pokemon with access to moves with desirable types are favored in this meta. Steel, Ghost and Fairy are all incredible defensive types and as such many Pokemon will seek to transform into those types. Powerful offensive Pokemon that primarily rely on one offensive STAB often can be seen transforming into types that grant them STAB on their coverage move. Here are some examples:

:sv/great tusk:
Great Tusk @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Protosynthesis
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Headlong Rush
- Play Rough
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin
Great Tusk base typing is good at abusing 2 really strong moves in Close Combat and Headlong Rush making it a good breaker. However, Fighting + Ground coverage is kinda bad not being able to touch either Flying or Bug mons. In Camomons, this limitation is removed and Great Tusk can fully take advantage from its large movepool to play many viable typings such as
,
, etc offensively with Play Rough and Knock Off. It can also better exploit its high physical bulk with moves like Body Press, Megahorn or Heavy Slam to get typings like
or
, etc making it an interesting physical check.

:sv/volcanion:
Volcanion @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Flamethrower
- Fire Spin
- Taunt
Don't you remember a
immune to Water? Yeah that's it, Primal-Groudon! Sure this set is far from it however it also gets this very nice synergy between an available and reliable typing and its ability, Water Absorb. If its initial typing wasn't so good being weak to Stealth Rock and unable to make much damage to Water or Dragon types, this one solves those issues. With such combination allowed by Earth Power, Volcanion is able to check a lot of thing thanks to a respectable bulk while taking advantage of bulky Water like Alomomola, Slowking-Galar, etc and just hitting a wide range of defensive types commonly used.
is also quite good if you want to abuse Steam Eruption's power and secondary effect while keeping a lot of defensive utility.
:sv/ting-lu:
Ting-Lu @ Leftovers
Ability: Vessel of Ruin
EVs: 80 Hp / 176 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Heavy Slam
- Body Press
- Whirlwind
- Spikes
Ting-Lu's
initial typing is not perfect for a defensive role to take full advantage from its amazing mixed bulk. You can change that by using Heavy Slam to become part
, a much more interesting defensive typing.

Q&A
Q: What will happen if I place a move on either first two slots that can potentially change types in certain circumstances, such as Weather Ball and Tera Blast?
A: The original type of said move before it changes types on different circumstances will be honored. For example, Weather Ball is originally Normal-type, and can change types with weather. Regardless of whatever weather condition, the Pokemon with Weather Ball in Slot 1 will make it (part-) Normal.

In the case of Tauros's Raging Bull, Oricorio's Revelation Dance (and for those interested: Arceus's Judgment), these moves are coded as Normal-type regardless of the change of form; thus Paldean Tauros having Raging Bull and whatever form of Oricorio with Revelation Dance will be revealed as part-Normal as well.

Q: How does Terastallization work in Camomons?
A: Terastallization is the most prominent battle feature in this Scarlet/Violet generation. A Pokemon who Terastallizes will change its current typing to a (pure) chosen Terastallized type and will remain that type for the entire match. However, the STABs coming from its initial type combination will remain.

Camomons Viability Rankings
Pokemon in each rank are listed in alphabetical order.
[Last update: 12/01/2023]

The purpose of this resource is to classify in ranks the viable Pokemon in SV Camomons while showing, as much as possible, the most viable typings. The more the viability of the Pokemon, the more the details.

For Pokemon in the ★★★ TOP TIER ★★★ and ★★★ HIGH ★★★ rank, best type combinations are shown as well as more niche ones (as indicated in brackets). The movepool of the Pokemon is also included to see easier how to get which or which type.

For Pokemon in the ★★ MID ★★ rank, only typing are available.

And finally, for
★ LOW ★ rank, only mons are presented. Those mons have a hypothetical niche but are generally outclassed.

Viability Rankings are for information only with the goal to give a better picture of the metagame; you can of course play whatever Pokemon you want with whatever typing based on its movepool. However, from a competitive point of view, this resource will help you identifying the biggest threats in order to adapt your teambuilding while giving you ideas.

II) Role Compendium
The main purpose of this role compendium is to provide a visual list organized by roles to see what Pokémon do what. This will help both new and experienced player in finding Pokémon which can fit their teams when looking for specific roles. Pokémon included in this thread are considered viable or have a niche in the current metagame, this list is therefore non-exhaustive and shouldn't be considered as an undeniable truth. Pokémon listed in this post are listed in alphabetical order and not based on their viability. If you think there is a Pokémon viable for the roles mentioned below and it hasn't been added to the group, then recommend it in a post with solid explanations.

Thanks to this metagame's modified type mechanics, you can remove Great Tusk's limitations and fully take advantage of said Pokemon's large movepool to play with modified type combinations such as

We're back everybody!
:wigcontent:

It took a little time but thanks to the work of the developers, the interaction between Camomons and terastallization has been fixed allowing Camomons to come back again! Thanks to them  Also thanks to our Camomons TL, Euphonos, for the great banner!

The OP should be edited soon with more information including a few things such as links to Camomons old generation threads, types list to easily c/c typing on your post, links to the (incoming) resources & great post and the current watchlist!

However, I will still reveal the mons at the center of our talks, estimated to be really borderline or just too much; even if we didn't see them a lot in action (still some games have been played). So here's the mons under the illumination of our radar!

:sv/chien-pao:
Chien-Pao
Viable typings:
/
/
/
/

Ability: Sword of Ruin
Stats: 80/120/80/90/65/135

Well, no surprise there. Chien-Pao is one of the most broken mon (if not the most) of this new generation of Camomons. Sword of Ruin gives it virtually a boost greater than Tough Claws one from Lycanroc-Dusk on every move combined to a good attack stat and one of the highest speed of the tier.
In Camomons, Chien-Pao can benefit from better offensive typing and/or remove its weakness to SR by using Sacred Sword to get the Fighting type. Paired with Ice and Dark, it gets a really good coverage while benefiting from strong STAB priority moves in Ice Shard and Sucker Punch. The
one will not fail to remind you a set that pushed Lycanroc-Dusk over the edge during the last generation of Camomons. Indeed, the coverage paired with Sucker Punch as priority and coverage (somehow) to hit
and
is exactly the same. The main difference being Sacred Sword hitting less hard with respect to Close Combat which is compensated by a much better speed and a higher bulk making setup easier.
is the last "Camo original variant" abusing from Acrobatics to get an amazing offensive (and defensively great) typing.

Due to this set diversity providing great coverage while removing base typing weaknesses (rocks mainly) Chien-Pao is just an awesome breaker that can pierce through almost every defensive core in the current metagame. Offensive options are also very limitated due to both amazing speed tier and priority moves. Just broken there's no question.

:sv/baxcalibur:
Baxcalibur
Viable typings:
/
/
/
/

Ability: Thermal Exchange / Ice Body
Stats: 115/145/92/75/86/87

Baxcalibur is the great non-legendary Dragon of the generation but is, in fact, probably on par with the legendary most similar to it, Kyurem. It gets a high attack stat paired with more than correct bulk and a speed which, although not being high, will be enough.
Indeed, people had the great idea to give this mon Dragon Dance. With a Jolly Nature at +1, that's enough to outspeed Dragapult known as the fastest relevant mon hitting super hard.
Baxcalibur also benefits from a great movepool including of the most reliable Dragon STAB from all time, Dragon Glaive with 120 base power and many other good moves such as Earthquake, Aqua Tail, Iron Head or Icicle Crash. Thus, it gets plenty of viable typings to abuse from also allowing an easier setup with only a few weaknesses.
Because Terastallization is still around, this mon gets the perfect coverage move in
Terablast while surprising thanks to the resists/weaknesses changes making it even harder to kill.
Finally we can also mention Thermal Exchange making it immune to burn and therefore removing such counterplay.

:sv/dragonite:
Dragonite
Viable typings:
/
/
/
/
/
/

Ability: Inner Focus / Multiscale
Stats: 91/134/95/100/100/80

The stronger Espeeder is back again in the metagame! Dragonite has been a bit nerfed this generation by losing Dual Wingbeat making
less strong (Flying move is Roost) and Roost losing half pp.
However, Choice Bander is stay almost completely unchanged and still powerful. Indeed, STAB Espeed with an Adamant Nature is a roll to OHKO sweeper like Dragapult or Chien-Pao.
and
offer respectively a good coverage and strong STAB to abuse from especially threatening Steel, Ghost and Rock mons able to take Espeed easily. Because terastallization is still there, you can also benefit from an additional STAB through Terablast or to boost moves like Thunder Punch. Otherwise you can just boost Espeed to make it even scarier and able to decimate every non-resisting sweeper. Inner Focus allows you to 2HKO defensive Salamence being immunine to Intimidate.
Bulky Dragon Dancer are still there while nerfed. The combination of Dragon Dance, Roost and Multiscale is great to setup multiple times a become an unrevengekillable breaking machine.
Probably still too much for the metagame.

:sv/flutter mane:
Flutter Mane
Viable typings:
/
/
/

Ability: Protosynthesis
Stats: 55/55/55/135/135/135

Already banned from SV OU, Flutter Mane doesn't change much in Camomons. Base typing is still really good in Camomons but you can try some other variants like Dark one to break through
:blissey:. Flutter Mane combine both amazing Spa and Speed making it one of the best special sweeper/breaker. You can't even think to revenge kill it with Dragonite if it's a Ghost variant and not with Dragapult either due to how bulky it is on the special plan (252 SpA Choice Specs Dragapult Hydro Pump (STAB) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Flutter Mane: 174-205 (69.3 - 81.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO). Not much to say tbh but it's surprsingly one of the least broken there imo.

:sv/iron valiant:
Iron Valiant
Viable typings:
/
/
/
/
/
/whatever honestly

Ability: Quark Drive
Stats: 74/130/90/120/60/116

To me what limits Iron Valiant power in standard SV OU atm in the fact it gets 2 (or 3 with tera) STABs while its movepool is just incredible. In Camomons, this limitation is removed and Iron Valiant can get a STAB on whatever move it wants to run. Paired with high Atk and good Speed, this mon is completely unpredictable and can decimate a team easily if your set gets the right MU. Sword Dance makes it a potent breaker (50% chance to OHKO Defensive Salamence with LO at +1 with Close Combat). You can even play mixed LO or CM sets because 120 Spa is definitely great lol.
Futur Mega-Gallade took over. Not to mention the fact it can abuse from Booster Energy to either get +1 speed or x1.3 Atk (drop some speed EVs).

:sv/roaring moon:
Roaring Moon
Viable typings:
/
/
/

Ability: Protosynthesis
Stats: 105/139/71/55/101/119

Okok let's be clear, with both Booster Energy and terastallization around, this mon is completely broken. Booster Energy allows to get a x1.3 in Atk while boosting Acrobatics to 110 thus offering a great STAB and crazy coverage when paired to Earthquake. Because terastallization is around, you can add a
STAB to your set allowing to remove
for instance. Counterplay against this mon is extremely narrow especially considering you need fast choice scarfer to revenge kill after Dragon Dance unlike Baxcalibur (but this one gets bulk).
terastallization also allows to resist a Chien-Pao Ice Shard which is theoretically one of the best way to deal with the
one. You can play other variants too but this one is probably just better ngl.

Booster Energy

Booster Energy is also one of the thing we look at carefully. Providing a 30% boost to the highest stat (50% if speed) by activating both Protosynthesis or Quark Drive (single use), this item is particularly powerful used in HO or Offensive team abusing from paradox mons. The best example is Roaring Move (see above) to get a boost while increasing Acrobatics's power to become an absolute beast. Iron Valiant becomes really hard to revenge kill at +1 in speed without priority. Other mons such as Iron Moth, Great Tusk, Slither Wing can benefit from an offensive stat boost while getting a way to increase their Speed stat.
Before banning any paradox mons, this item could be the first target as a way to virtually nerf all of them. Banning this item is a way to look only at the mons themselves to eventually allow more paradow mons to stay in the metagame.
If some paradox mons end up being banned with or without this item, the possible ban could be reversed.

Terastallization

Terastallization has been fixed recently because it didn't change Camomons typing at first so only Terablast and super-STAB were the signature of terastallization in Camomons. However, things are differents now.
I will not cover the topic of terastallization but I just want to say that, with respect to SV OU, terastallization might be more unhealthy in Camomons. Indeed, if a cool and balanced aspect of terastallization is to change a bad typing to a better one and keep it over the game, in Camomons, we already play good typings. Thus, the terastallization is mainly used to get a free and quite unpredictable additional STAB or to lure an opposing mon trying to get the kill and turn the tables.

Anyway I personally think it's too early to decide to get rid or not of the terastallization and it might be better to look into its case in 2 weeks (at least).

As you'll see in the incoming watchlist, other things are under our radar such as Iron Bundle, Cyclizar, Houndstone, Palafin, etc and could possibly end up in our highest priorities if we get more evidence of them being potentially too much for the metagame.

Do not hesitate to share any set you think might be good or interesting for this new generation to help people building and exploring the metagame! See you soon guys!

slight note: I am not at all a good competitive player, and most certainly not an expert in Camomons, so take what I say here with a grain of Nacli.

- Iron Head, Heavy Slam, Iron Defense
- Volt Switch, Thunder Punch, Wild Charge
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch
- Ice Punch
- Play Rough
Other options: Fake Out, Swords Dance, Whirlwind, Low Kick, Stone Edge

Iron Hands in standard play is an absolute beefcake, able to handle virtually any physical attack thrown its way even from boosted targets, and usually able to tank one special hit in a pinch. However, a fairly easily abusable typing defensively and problems having defensive Ground types able to eat everything it throws out can restrict it from doing massive damage 'lest it guess right multiple times with Ice Punch. It also struggles versus special attackers, particularly super effective special attackers, as they target its significantly lower base 68 Special Defense, and while tanking one hit is fairly reasonable, Iron Hands won't do any more than that.

In Camomons, the typing is much less of a problem, since Iron Hands can choose any of the various strong offensive and defensive typings to fix this issue! Access to Play Rough and several Steel moves opens up a world of possibilities for defensive typings that can suit it, while access to the strongest fighting STAB options means it also has open offensive typings, making the best of both worlds.

Personally, Assault Vest seems like the best fit for Iron Hands, as its innately massive physical bulk and lack of good or useful for its stats status moves means it needs not much else. I could also see a Swords Dance with STAB Drain Punch set work out fine as a fat sturdy late game mon who comes with the benefit of OHKOing Chien-Pao like nothing else. A defensive set with Iron Defense, Body Press, and either RestTalk or RestoChesto could be irritating as hell to fight, although would be incredibly passive.

Given the current list of mons on the 'strong mon' and watch lists, Iron Hands can reasonably handle most Chien-Pao, Palafin, and Baxcalibur variants, Assault Vest lets it tank one Iron Bundle hit in a punch, and Cyclizar substitutes likely won't survive the initial Iron Hands hit. Normal-type Dragonite variants won't appreciate Iron Hands existence, same for Fighting Iron Valiant.

However, in spite of how much love I give it, Iron Hands really only has its excellent base stats to work off - While it has access to Swords Dance, it lacks Mach Punch or any priority outside of Fake Out, and with 50 base Speed it is susceptible to being outsped and killed on retaliation after a kill or just in two hits by special attackers. Status is absolutely detrimental to Iron Hands, particularly Toxic and Burn, as both cut into its longevity and the latter completely annihilating its threat level. While Volt Switch is a useful pivoting option, Ground Camomons can stonewall it, and several of Iron Hands' best typings still leave it Ground-weak and unable to hit them super effectively. Perhaps worst of all is a lack of set diversity; outside of Iron Hands' typing, it's very predictable to know it likely has Fake Out, two STAB options, and Volt Switch, SD, or Whirlwind as a fourth move slot. Without any recovery, it is exploitable as hell, and even wish support won't do much considering its immense raw HP as is.

Given that I'm awful at mons, I have no idea how well Iron Hands would survive in the meta given it has more than a handful of problems, but being the thickest physical wall around with enough Attack to drive anything home must be worth SOMETHING. My subtle hope is that someone finds a way to put this on a sample team.

Hello all, your Camomons council recently held a vote on Booster Energy and Chien Pao. Here are the results...

:SS/Chien Pao:
1669520070655.png

Chien Pao and Booster Energy are banned from Camomons
Quick Ban...EuphonosThe Number ManSiamatoClastiaPonchlakeResult
Chien PaoAbstainBANBANBANBANBAN
Booster EnergyBANBANBANBANBANBAN

Chien Pao:
We recently banned Lycanroc-Dusk towards the end of Sword and Shield for being too powerful of an offensive threat, and with the arrival of Scarlet and Violet, comes Chien-Pao, who is in essence a superior version of Lycanroc-Dusk. Chien-Pao is one of the fastest threats in the tier with an incredible 135 Speed, ensuring that it'll outspeed most of the meta unboosted. Pokemon that could outspeed it, such as Dragapult or Iron Bundle, have to be wary of its selection of powerful priority moves, which are boosted by its Sword of Ruin ability. Sword of Ruin functionally acts as a stronger Tough Claws for Chien Pao, except it works on all Physical Attacks rather than just contact moves. Add in the fact that Chien Pao possesses a myriad of lethal STAB combinations, and it's clear to see why Chien Pao is broken in Camomons.

Booster Energy:
The Paradox Pokemon are among some of the most powerful Pokemon we've seen to date, and Booster Energy only served to take their power levels to 11, granting them a free boost to their stats upon switch-in. Though we are still learning the meta, it's apparent that the Paradox Pokemon are very powerful in Camomons. This will serve as a blanket nerf to them and allow us more time to experiment with and determine if the issue are Paradox Pokemon themselves or simply Booster Energy. If we come to find that the Paradox Pokemon themselves are too powerful, even without Booster Energy, we could eventually consider re-voting Booster Energy once the problematic Paradox Pokemon have been banned.

I come with a new (personal) project starting from today! From now, I will post every week 2 mons/sets I find interesting in order to explore with you guys the metagame! I will not restrict myself so you will find some old Camomons sets from last generations which are still good and interesting this gen, some promising sets of new mons and even some more original stuff sometimes.
The only constraint I impose on myself will be to post:
  • A mon/set from the new generation.
  • A mon/set from the last generations.
That being said, here we go!

SIAMATO'S SETS OF THE WEEK
Week 1

Stats: 90/112/120/70/70/106

Other Moves: Rapid Spin, Stealth Rock

Iron Treads @ Heavy-Duty Boots

Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 32 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spe
Jolly Nature

- Knock Off
- Volt Switch
- Rapid Spin

My first love from this new generation of Camomons.

As you all know, one of the features of this generation is the large hazards distribution including more Spikers and Toxic Spikers. To reduce the impact of hazards, there are several ways.

- Playing HO because the game should be too short for hazards to be that impactful.
- Trying to resists hazards as much as you can by using Heavy-Duty Boots everywhere and hazards resistant typings / abilities.
- Use hazard control to prevent your opponent for pressuring you too much with hazards through mid to long games.

The above set includes in this last case. Because hazards will be again and the center of our duels, it's really important to find ways to take advantage from them while not being pressured by them thus winning the hazard war.
However, it exists only 2 moves allowing you to remove opponent's hazards on your side while keeping yours. Rapid Spin and Mortal Spin.
If the second is the signature move of Glimmora, the first one gets a larger distribution. However, because it's a Normal type move, it can be completely walled by any
mons therefore ruining your plan against opposing hazards.

The idea of this set is to threat
mons by using STAB Knock Off to get a more reliable spinner.

So now what's about the
typing? Well, Iron Treads gets a great physical bulk but, an issue of using
as typing is the weakness to
which are extremely common in Camomons with moves such as Body Press and Close Combat everywhere. The
typing is the only way for Iron Treads to mitigate its Fighting weakness while getting a good defensive typing resistant Ground in particular.
We take care of the hazard weakness thanks to HDB allowing to be immune to hazards thus ensuring to be again a more reliable spinner.

Finally, this mon gets Volt Swich allowing to make this mon a semi-defensive semi-fast pivot, item remover and spinner which combine in one set almost everything you want.

Other Dark variants are unfortunately weak to Fighting but can still work as item + hazards remover pivot. Non-Dark variant are not great as spinner but can be good at setting SR although you should look at Great Tusk if you're not interested in pivoting (main and almost only advantage of Iron Tread with respect to Great Tusk).

It's too early to say if this mon/set will be good in the metagame but I think it definitely gets the assets to do so!

Other Moves: Stealth Rock, Spikes, Sword Dance, Substitute

Garchomp @ Leftovers
Ability: Rough Skin
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Liquidation
- Poison Jab
- Stealth Rock
- Swords Dance

Garchomp is still there and whatever the generation it will still be amazing in Camomon and likely become one of the best mon in the metagame!

This generation Garchomp lost Aqua Tail that should have considerably nerfed it in Camomons but hopefully it gets Liquidation as replacement making things even. However, it also lost Scale Shot meaning the end of "Double Dance" Sweeper sets requiring the speed boost to work.
Thus, Garchomp will only shine in Camomons through the usual bulky breaker sets.

is still an amazing typing defensively and offensively making Garchomp able to soft checks things such as Palafin (still 2HKO by STAB Band Close Combat LOL) , Slither Wing or Iron Valiant while breaking some common defensive mons like
:ting-lu:,
:corviknight: and non-Earthquake :salamence:. Because Water + Poison gets a really nice coverage, you can easily put Sub as third slot to remove some counterplay in status or slowpivot into a revenge killer. Garchomp is also one if not the best offensive hazard setter now able to SR or Spikes.
Probably still the best and scarier set.

is back in the game because god Rillaboom is dead. This typing is well known is Camomons for providing a lot defensively being only weak to Grass. Earthquake without relevant Grassy Surge setter is one of the best offensive move in game with power and large coverage. It's too early to say if this set will come back to compete with the Poison variant but it's definitely viable now!

variants are the one who suffer the most from the removal of Scale Shot because both Dragon Claw and Outrage have flaws. Might still work especially with Magnezone around!

Some other variants exist and may also work such as
decent defensively and scary offensively although Fire Fang is quite weak.

We can also mention Terastallization has another tool for Garchomp perfectly benefiting from it defensively and offensively (Tera Elec + Terablast deletes
mons for instance). But careful about Black Sludge on Poison variants if you terastallize into something else.

Chomp will therefore probably be one of the best mon in the metagame and a thing we should certainly not forget about by being distracted with our new toys!

I adjusted the formatting of my post based on my previous ones and PrincessGardevoir's post above which is great and really nice!

I’ve been playing a fair amount of Camomons with Siamato lately, which has led to some discussions about the mechanic between him and I. As much as I like the Terastallization mechanic this generation, I think it will ultimately prove to be too broken for Camomons. The reason I say this is because I feel that it undermines the type changing concept of Camomons. I believe that the skill gap, aside from general playing ability, is almost entirely the teambuilding aspect in Camomons. With the ability to change types, you can realistically adapt to almost anything in the meta at a given time if you build well enough. I don’t like Terastallization for the simple fact that it takes that concept and flips it on its head. Terastallization punishes good teambuilding in Camomons simply put. Camomons is a type-based meta. It’s built, played, and balanced around that fact. Being able to suddenly change typings in the middle of the battle ruins that dynamic. You cannot reasonably account for the major threats in the meta when Terastallization is a factor. In Camomons, you have to make concessions that there might be times where you run into an offensive or defensive mon that you simply have no answers for. That’s just what’s going to happen with a meta that allows for as much variability in sets as Camomons. Even so, good teams try to take account as much of it as it can. Terastallization, while a cool and fun mechanic, flips those MU’s on their head. You can go from facing a 6-0 MU to having a 6-0 MU at the drop of a hat. All because you can Terastallize into something you know your opponent cannot deal with. It also makes teambuilding unrewarding, as all the prep that goes into making a good Camomons team can go out the window when your opponent Teras. All of the sudden your team’s cores are no longer sound, and it isn’t from a lack of effort on your end.

We’re going to have to make a decision on Terastallization eventually, so I figured I’d share my thoughts now.

I'm all for a Terastalize ban ASAP, since it just completely disregards the point of Camo. Other OMs which don't feature prominent typing changes will probably see less problems than a meta where typing already can be a confusing mess and really doesn't need you stacking more surprise immunities on teams.

1669790100877.png

The few games I've been playing have all featured me setting up Shell Smash Dark-Tera Strong Jaw Drednaw and sort of just clicking Crunch? Poison Jab kills the Fairies that resist Dark, and you have a fourth move slot that certainly exists. Superpower hits opposing Darks and EQ hits Steel/Fighting mons.

+2 252 Atk Strong Jaw Drednaw Crunch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def [Steel/Ground] Garganacl: 287-338 (71 - 83.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252 Atk Strong Jaw Drednaw Crunch vs. 32 HP / 0 Def [Dark/Bug] Iron Treads: 204-241 (62 - 73.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO on resist
+2 252 Atk Drednaw Poison Jab vs. 252 HP / 0 Def [Fairy/Fightng] Iron Hands: 450-530 (87.8 - 103.5%) -- 25% chance to OHKO

Basically if you don't resist it or you aren't Garganacl the absolute beefcake, you're probably getting OHKO'd by Crunch, or daring getting beefed on by the Free Bird himself. It's almost comedic seeing the best mons in the tier just completely drop, since outside of Scarfers at base 115 speed or higher (114 technically would also work, but no Pokemon lies at that speed tier) you simply won't get outsped, and the best abusers of that tier of speed, the Protosynthesis/Quark Engine mons, lost Booster Energy.

tldr pls quickban terastalize before anyone accidentally makes something actually good unlike drednaw busted with it thank you love you cool Camomons peoples

was this an excuse to use Shell Smash Chewtle but bigger? Y E S.

Ok guys I didn't plan to make this post that early especially considering the metagame is still not challengeable (we have the code above however) but after playing about 30 games something appeared clear to me:

Terastallization has to go*.

Ponchlake and PrincessGardevoir made the first posts about terastallization in Camomons just above so I invite you to read them. I will nevertheless add my grain of salt at this debate (although we all have the same opinion for now lol).

I) Terastallization as an uncompetitive mechanics

I will not cover myself why terastallization brings unreasonable uncompetitiveness to the game because this topic has already been covered by many people and especially in SV OU Discussion / Terastallization Tiering Discussion threads. I will just quote some posts or part of them I find relevant there. I nevertheless want to mitigate things a bit because there's also an interesting and competitive aspect in terastallization and that's why the question is debated in many metagames.

Terastallization Tiering Discussion in Policy Review by Finchinator. Many posts in this thread are qualitative and could help understanding uncompetitive aspect of terastallization in OU (or official) metagames.
Examples of terastallization by Finchinator.

II) Camomons and terastallization interaction makes things even worst
1. Revenge killing
The Camomons mechanics allows a mon to change its typing and generally, you have several viable options. Because of this, the amount of possibilities you have to take into account while building if often too much to realisticaly try to cover the broad Camomons's metagame. It's likely that your defensive core will be broken by something you didn't take into account, that's just the consequence of these much possibilities.
Because it's hard to try to defensively cover the whole metagame, Camomons players found a slightly different approching in building and playing Camomons: Revenge killing.
We may be in a situation in which our defensive core is easily broken by something unexepected (or expected but we had to give up this possibility to not sacrifice something else and potentially more). However, is that the end of the game? Certainly not because we also have offensive tools! If something is giving you trouble you should at least be able to revenge kill it to prevent it to just win the game. I will not say it will be easy and of course you're in a situation of bad match-up, but it's not an insurmountable situation either.
This revenge killing possibility is something favored in Camomons because you choose great offensive typing with powerful move and pair them with Choice items making Camomons revenge killers better and more numerous compared to OU. An example will be Rillaboom and Dragapult being S-rank last generation and in particular because they were amazing revenge killers.

But now, what with terastallization around? The most uncompetitive part of terastallization is using it defensively to prevent revenge killing and turn the table relying on how difficult it is to predict. And here's the issue. Because Camomons relies more on revenge killing to deal with things, this broken aspect of terastallization is exacerbated making it even worst.

2. Setup

When we talk about Camomons, we often encounter the subject of (bulky) setup. Indeed, because Camomons allows to get better typing, it's possible on some mon to get a typing with few (and not common) weaknesses while abusing typing like Steel or Poison to get Toxic immunity and therefore becoming a great setup mon. Setup counterplay is often narrow and MU reliant in Camomons and was the reason explaining why Calm Mind was banned last generation. On the other hand, setup is also really impactul in the sense that the right setup mon can just win the game by itself if it gets the MU making it even more threatening than "just" a bad MU.

I think some examples could illustrate this point very well:

:drednaw::baxcalibur::haxorus::salamence:
Typing:

Possible tera type:
/
/
/
/
/

is one of the best existing typing in the game defensively being only weak to Grass while getting some cool resists. Offensively, it's not bad either because both Ground and Water are great offensive typing main issue being Grass mon. That's the reason why this typing was played through the generation and was particularly good for setup during gen7 and probably nowadays in gen9.

What's about usual counterplay?

A
mon with a Grass STAB is theoretically the best option you can find and you should only be worried about coverage.

Terastallization completely remove this counterplay! All the listed tera typings resist Grass transforming the counter to setup fodder thus removing a Scarf last hope for instance. The terastallization to a Grass resisting typing basically make you lose at least 2 turns (the turn you hit the Grass move and the turn you switch) which is more than enough for your opponent to setup more and annihilate any possible other counterplays.
Not relevant for the discussion there but could you imagine your feeling if you had put a Rillaboom in front of one of these mon, being sure they couldn't sweep thanks to Grassy Glide? Imagine the despair to see them changing their type for something resisting to Grassy Glide.

Toxic, classical counterplay against setup. Many really good offensive typings are weak to Toxic because both Steel and Poison are often not great offensively. And when they're, they lose on something like coverage or power making them manageable in another way.

Steel and Poison terrastalization remove this counterplay! Well, what's about combining both? Good and strong offensive STABs with Ground and Water while benefiting from Poison or Steel great defensively and immune to Toxic? Both also resist Grass so you remove 2 counterplays in one terastallization, nice!
What's tricky is also the fact that Steel is weak to Ground and Fire mons but they are weak to Water meaning they'll have trouble trying to revenge kill you. That's also the case for the Water STAB preventing Grounds to hit a Poison terastallization.
Will-O-Wisp/burn, all the above listed mons are physical setup sweeper so burn is an effective counterplay (not against Baxcalibur though).

A Fire terastallization remove this counterplay! And again, you also resist Grass meaning you suddently beat 2 possible counterplays in one terastallization, amazing! Moreover and again, you're somehow protected from a Rock or Ground revenge killer because Water STAB threats both.
Fire is also a great offensive typing meaning you can run Terablast and get an crazy coverage.
All counterplays rely on things like Choice Scarfer or fat wall able to beat them 1v1. However with terastallization around things start to be random and will only depend on MU. Like:

Okay I have a bulky
:iron-hands: Iron Hands with Iron Defense and Body Press so I might be able to deal with those things. Ah? It's a Poison terastallization? Right.

There's many other examples outside from the classical
like
to Grass, etc. Basically you can build near perfect setup sweeper in Camomons by using both great base typing with only few counterplays that you almost entirely remove with your tera type.

III) Terastallization healthy and interesting aspects in changind bad to good typing is gone in Camomons

In Camomons you already improve your typing making things even better or becoming viable. In the sense, this mechanics is of no interest and is only exploited for defensive lure or offensively with super-STAB.
We can argue that sometimes it helps mon with a bad movepool making Camo unable to save their case but that's definitely not the best way to use terastallization and certainly not the most common from what I've seen so far.

IV) Offensive terastallization is even worst: super-STAB and triple STAB

Well yeah, I talked a lot about the unhealthy and uncompetitive defensive aspect of terastallization up to now but "tera/super STAB" are also there.

1. Super STAB
In Camomons you can play great offensive combination with a large coverage and make them powerful with STAB. So often, it's more tricky to answer defensively things in Camomons because a mon can change a coverage move to a STAB one making it sometimes too powerful to be handled by a "classical" check. An example could be :clefable:Clefable having a hard time answering Hydro Pump from a Choice Specs a
:dragapult:Dragapult (252 SpA Choice Specs Dragapult Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 56+ SpD Clefable: 210-247 (53.2 - 62.6%)) while it can manage in SS OU thanks to Shadow Ball lower base power.
In Camomons, we thus counted on mon like
:slowking:Slowking to answer such Dragapult. However, what's about a tera Water?

From:
252 SpA Choice Specs Dragapult Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Slowking: 153-180 (38.8 - 45.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
To:
252 SpA Choice Specs Dragapult Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Slowking: 204-240 (51.7 - 60.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Equal:
RIP

Trying to blank things with large coverage with high SpD and neutral typing doesn't work anymore while it's a common (if not the most) defensive way to answer things.

Special mention to:dragonite:Dragonite with super-STAB Espeed. Hope to see you go soon

2. Triple STAB (and Terablast)

It's not the worst but how do you feel about something like
:hydreigon:Hydreigon with Hydro Pump tera Water? You combine both large and powerful coverage to the unpredictable defensive aspect of terastallization. It basically makes things even worst lol.
Now on top of that you can use Terablast to get almost perfect coverage like a
:flutter mane:with a Ground Terablast.

V) Replays

Ponchlake vs me
:kingambit:Kingambit mitigated the Ground weakness to beat Ting-Lu and sweep. Do not take into account how bad I am using Black Sludge instead of Lefto while I'm Fairy tera :smogonbird:

Euphonos vs me
:dudunsparce:Dudunsparce switched to Ghost to absorb STAB Espeed from Dragonite. Gave me a free turn to trade and prevent losing too much mon.

Palapapop vs me
I thought to be safe with
:ting-lu:Ting-Lu against
:espathra:Espathra but I was not lol. Pala turned it into Fire with Terablast and I was left without solution therefore just losing the game.

Palapapop vs me
I used a Fairy tera with my Ting-Lu to answer a Slither Wing which is a healthy way of doing so imo. I tried to put Volcarona in range of my Breloom's Mach Punch and managed to do it thanks to some luck but I found myself really sad when it turned out it was Ghost tera Volcarona...

Ponchlake vs me
Ponchlake thought to be safe and to potentially be able to sweep against a -2
:hydreigon:Hydreigon with his Breloom. However after a setup turn for both I revealed Poison tera to take Mach Punch at +2 and kill Breloom with Draco Meteor at +0.

I could write more about tera or find more examples but I think things are sufficiently developed. I will personnaly not ask to rush a QB to the council because we can still wait for a Camomons ladder to come back to let more people try it. However, I don't think my opinion will change on this.

* We can talk about restricting it instead of an outright ban but I think the later is just the best option there.

Hi ! Building and playing Camomons was really fun to me, and i wanted to share some set/opinion on terastallization :D !

1/ Terastallization : Terastallisation introduce huge changement for Sweeper (and in a lesser extend, set up) in both positive and negative :
- Positive : That's now really hard to revenge kill a sweeper, Even with good Priority user such as Dragonite/Palafin, changing type defensively + keeping your stab is huge
- Negative : a defensive pokemon is now able to change his typing to stop you easily, really efficient when you're facing Specs/Band Pokemon
so, when you're using a choiced Pokemon, you're never really safe, since you're never sure to OHKO opposing pokemon.

And even if it seems pretty balanced to have positive & negative aspect, it is just creating more unwinnable MU and more unhealthy 50/50. It also reduce your ability to make a solid gameplan, since you don't know what are the opposing teratypes, and you don't know when your opponent will activate it. This thing should go away.
Lets speak about some funny Pokemon now :D !

:sv/iron bundle:
Ice.png

I tried 2 set : Iron Bundle @ Heavy-Duty Boots
- Freeze-Dry
- Hydro Pump
- U-turn
- Encore
------------------------
Iron Bundle @ Choice Specs
- Freeze-Dry
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Flip Turn

I honestly think Iron bundle should be banned. Specs set don't have any counter/check aside from blissey, and iron bundle can just turn on him. Moreover, he is really fast and can act as a speed control. encore set is fun, but i think less strong than the specs one, which just have to click freeze dry to win.

:sv/Great Tusk:
Ground.png
/
/

Great tusk is definitely one of my favorite SV pokemon ! good bulk, good movepool, good stat, and a great design !

Great Tusk @ Leftovers
Tera Type: Steel
- Bulk Up
- Play Rough
- Close Combat
- Rapid Spin

Funny set, i don't have much to say about him, Fairy/fight looks like to be a good defensive and offensive typing, it provide some utility with rapid spin, and can effectively help to break a defensive core ! And you're able, even without terastallization, to set up you in front of some poison type, like Garchomp, if great tusk is a bit weakened.

:sv/Great Tusk: and it seemed really useful (thanks to rapid spin) and really devastative since Ground/Fairy is probably one of the most dangerous type offensively.

I haven't see it a lot on camo, but it seems pretty busted. It have a wide movepool : Fire/Electric/Grass/Dark/Fairy/Ghost coverage, and its stat are also pretty awesome (135 Sp.Atk/135 Speed). i can't really post 1 set, since is main advantage in camo is probably the large variety of typing he can viably run.

However, it has trouble standing out Dragapult. If it's way more powerful and able to break, it's also slower.

:sv/Wo-Chien:
/ Maybe

The forgotten one... Ting Lu bis, but with a bad movepool... But i really think we can do something with him :

Wo-Chien @ Leftovers
Tera Type: Poison
- Body Press
- Knock Off
- Leech Seed
- Protect

Don't have much to say, defensively he's as strong as ting lu, but he struggle to pressure opponent. It's still able to do it with Koff mainly and leech seed, even if that's quite a weak way to do it... It can therefore struggle with bulky set up. Actually, he can't pressure, but that's definitely not so easy to pressure him. Able to check a huge part of the metagame, but will struggle to counter most set up.I still definitely think we can do something with him.

Glimmora @ Leftovers
Ability: Toxic Debris
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 248 HP / 132 Def / 128 SpD
Calm Nature
- Flash Cannon
- Spiky Shield
- Mortal Spin
- Stealth Rock

My second love of the generation! Glimmora has many things that makes it interesting.

First its 2 abilities are both amazing. Toxic Debris set a layer of Toxic Spikes whenever you're hit by a physical move and even in dying. It's thus so easy to stack hazards and sometimes force a poison. Corrosion is also an excellent ability because you're able to poison Steel and Poison mon making Toxic really hard to switch-in.

About movepool now, things are also excellent. Glimmora gets 2 special moves offering the defensively great Fairy or Steel type while taking advantage of its high SpA stat: Dazzling Gleam and Flash Cannon. Another interesting move that fits pretty well with a defensive role and pairs well with both Steel and Fairy types is Spiky Shield. Thanks to this move, you can run
and
both great great defensive typing somehow replicating last generation:ferrothorn:Ferrothorn and:clefable:Clefable.
With those typings, Corrosion is even better because you're able to threat both Poison or Steel mon and not let them use you as setup fodder.
Corrosion is also working with another Glimmora's great and signature move: Mortal Spin. Mortal Spin works similarly to Rapid Spin in removing hazards from your field but instead of boosting your speed, it poisons the opposing mon. Still insufficient as hazards control because Steels are immune. With Corossion you can however poison Poison mon making the move effective against setter like :clodsire: Clodsire.

Finally it also gets Spikes, Toxic Spikes and Stealth Rock making it a potent hazard setter!

On the downside, Glimmora's bulk is really mid and relies a lot on resisting hits to not take too much damages. It also doesn't have any recovery (Lefto + Spiky Shield is okay-ish however) meaning any damage should be considered.

As we saw, this mon has many tools to shine being able to run great defensive typing while not being passive at all with many things to make progress! Will certainly establish itself as a great mon in the metagame.

Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dragon Breath
- Defog
- Will-O-Wisp
- Roost

So you're saying: "What the fuck Altaria is doing there with vanilla typing as one of the best option??". Yeah I know how you feel and that's indeed a strange proposal to highlight a mon known as bad and unranked last generations. So, what changed?

ALTARIA GETS WILL-O-WISP!!!

This addition really changes the mon. Indeed, with really low attacking base stats, Altaria was so passive and setup fodder for everything making it a really bad mon. Now, WoW makes it threatening for any physical sweeper/breaker and prevents physical setup. It's also a way to cancel Leftovers recovery on mon like Ting-Lu, Glimmora, Wo-Chien, Toedscruel, etc which is great.

However, the cotton bird is not only better thanks to WoW; the metagame also changed. Many mon lost Defog but not Altaria. With Corviknight, it is therefore one of the rare and viable Defogger in the current metagame thanks to recovery! For instance, mon such as Salamence, Dragonite, Hydreigon, Rotom-W lost Defog while some other good Defoggers last gen like Latias, Landorus-Therian or Zapdos got dexited.

Altaria also has the chance to get a cool ability allowing it to be a great status absorber something valuable with some Poison mon gone without Toxic or Blissey's viability drop.

Unfortunately this mon's bulk is not that great and 8pp on Roost can be pressured so easily. Do not think this mon can replace a same typing Salamence because the difference in physical bulk is like the difference between Clementine and me in terms of height, immense.

Will Altaria finally be decent or more? Only the time and the metagame developments that will follow can answer this question. However, Altaria really has the tools to find a place in this metagame!

:meowscarada:COUNCIL NEWS:meowscarada:

Hello everybody! While SV Camomons is still unfortunately not challengeable on PS main server (only through the above code on the OP), your Camomons council works at balancing the metagame while preserving the diversity and the fun of the tier!

INCOMING RESOURCES
The council is currently building the preliminary Viability List and you can expect it to be posted soon! Like VRs, we'll try to put the most viable typings so you can get a better picture of the metagame. On the other hand, the Camomons OP has been slightly edited to make it more beautiful and clear. Euphonos will also add in the incoming days more resources such as:
  • Camomons Old Gen codes and links
  • Quick links to resources
  • Great post (on this thread) you might be interested to read
  • The type list to easily copy/paste typing on your post and make them more visual

TIERING ACTIONS

After playing some games and discussing, we decided to ban Chien-Pao considered as the most broken element without any chance for it to not be broken. We also banned Boost Energy in order to nerf an emerging and really powerful style, "Paradoxes mon HO". While we could have waited more before taking any action against Boost Energy, it naturally appeared to be the first step while looking at paradoxes mon. Banning this item indeed allows to only focus on paradoxes mon pure strength therefore preserving as most as possible diversity. We do not exclude to reverse this ban if some paradoxes mon end up being too much even without this item and thereafter banned.

We continued to play and explore the metagame the best we could since then. The results of these tests supported by our experience in theorymon led us to the Camomons Metagame Watchlist! Here are the mon currently under our radar sorted by priority in terms of threat for the metagame balance. You'll naturally find some mon that were already discussed by some people above.

However, considering we already got enough data on some mon, we decided again to vote to continue balancing the metagame. Here are the results:

:sv/palafin::sv/palafin-hero::sv/roaring moon:

Palafin and Roaring Moon are now banned from SV Camomons!
You'll find hereafter some explanations on the reasoning that led us to vote on these elements:

Terastallization

Terastallization has been the hottest topic on the thread since the beginning of the generation. Terastallization is closely watched in Camomons because it prevents revenge killing while Camomons's philosophy is often based on revenge killing. It also makes setup, an issue often mentionned in Camomons, even harder to counter making often revenge killers or checks setup fodders. Finally, terastallization also offers super-STAB and third STAB while Camomons threats are already strong thanks to excellent combination of STAB.
I will not go into the details there but you're invited to check the above posts if you want to understand better how unhealthy the interaction between Camomons and terastallization is.
Despite this, your Camomons council voted to wait more before taking any tiering action against terastallization. Getting rid by ourselves from the generation mechanics is indeed something we want to avoid for now due to how impactful it could be. Moreover, we prefer to wait for Camomons to potentially come back with a ladder to get more data/feedback from the community. Still, we'll continue to watch carefully this element and depending on how things go, we could come back soon on this.

Other Moves: Bulk Up, Taunt, Ice Punch, Agility
Since the beginning of the generation Palafin terrorizes the metagame. It was first seen as Rillaboom's substitute thanks to the high attack stat of its hero form, the ability to pivot and a strong priority. The Choice Band set was also much better thanks to an additional STAB like Rillaboom was. However, people quickly realized it was way stronger than or dead god and probably too much for the metagame.
Indeed, 160 Atk makes this mon a real behemoth able to break throught whatever it wants basically. Here some funny calcs:
252 Atk Choice Band Palafin-Hero Close Combat vs. 0 HP /
0 Def Garchomp: 179-211 (50.1 - 59.1%)
252 Atk Choice Band Palafin-Hero Close Combat vs. 248 HP /
0 Def Clodsire: 258-305 (55.7 - 65.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Palafin-Hero Close Combat vs. 252 HP /
168+ Def Amoonguss: 186-219 (43 - 50.6%) -- 53.1% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Palafin-Hero Close Combat vs. 248 HP /
252+ Def Altaria: 145-171 (41 - 48.4%)
If it was considered too much in OU mainly due to BU sets paired with terastallization making some counterplay unable to work (like tera Steel + Taunt completely shutting down Amoongus), these sets also exist in Camomons. However the increased diversity makes these sets even harder to wall or to revenge kill due to triple STAB or more tera option. Moreover, like we demonstrated before, the BU set is certainly not the only one making Palafin this strong in Camomons. Choice Band set is almost impossible to consistency deal with due to Palafin immense Atk stat being able to break everything but vanilla Slowbro.
It was also a threat for faster team thanks to Jet Punch priority (~27% less strong than Rillaboom's Grassy Glide) making it a potent revenge killer in the metagame or an excellent late game sweeper.
This mon was just too much for the metagame and the council decided to ban it.

- Dragon Claw, Outrage
- Fire Fang

Other Moves: Dragon Dance, Zen Headbutt, Brick Break, U-Turn, Thunder Fang, Taunt, Stone Edge
Roaring Moon is another stat monster associating 139 Atk to 119 Spe which is just excellent offensively. Its bulk isn't bad either with 105/71/101 making it bulkier than Corviknight or Garganacl on the special side. Its movepools is quite large with coverage moves like Earthquake or Fire Fang to hit Steels, Dragon Dance in order to sweep in more offensive teams and U-Turn making it a great offensive pivot with either Scarf or Band.
However, what's currently limit this mon in OU comes from the fact it doesn't get any powerful STAB or, at least, easy to use (Outrage) without resorting to terastallization.

In Camomons, this limitation is removed and Roaring Moon is able to run one of the best offensive (and great defensively) tying in the game,
. Without item, you get 2 powerful STABs in Earthquake and Acrobatics taking the most of its excellent attacking stat. It's even harder to find a defensive answer to this mon considering it often uses Fire Fang as third slot to break through
. And even without, it can run Roost and setup in front of some passive mon like Corviknight.
could be compared with STABmons Garchomp getting both DD and a healing move. The typing is again great offensively and defensively and the main difference with the above variant is the possibility to run an item like Lum Berry, Life Orb or Leftovers.
Other variants are also viable but harder to use or just generally outclassed by these 2.

Counterplay is extremely limited because this mon is bulky enough to find many opportunities to setup a DD and start a rampage. Its great speed tier also makes offensive counterplay only limited to a few Scarfer able to revenge kill it (Meowscarada Foul Play is the most relevant one but Iron Bundle could work although it's kind of a waste playing it like that) or priority move (mainly Palafin and CB Dragonite). Even some weather abusers like:drednaw:Drednaw or :scovillain:Scovillain are unable to revenge kill it after a DD and even with a +Spe Nature. Special mention to
:dudunsparce:Dudunsparce with Ice Beam being probably one of the greatest check to the best 2 variants.

On another hand, Roaring Moon isn't even forced to play the DD set. Because it gets U-Turn, you can make Choice Band or Choice Scarf variant work extremely well. The first one is a really scary breaker and great offensive pivot while the later is one of the greatest revenge killer in the metagame. The Choice Band variant also contributes to put Roaring Moon over the edge.

With terastallization around, Roaring Moon was able to abuse it defensively to prevent revenge killing like tera Water for
or tera Steel for
making revenge killers unable to work or, at worst, setup fodders. Offensive terastallization was also used to get a super STAB sometimes sufficient to delete your opponent counterplay.

Finally, if Roaring Moon certainly doesn't require sun support to work, it makes this mon even more unmanageable with either Speed Protosynthesis allowing to outspeed absolutely everything after a DD or Atk Protosynthesis virtually offering to you a Life Orb boost without recoil. It also makes Fire Fang stronger allowing to break through
even easier.

Annihilape was added to the vote after a request from a council member but ended up not being banned. Annihilape doesn't change a lot in Camomons because its vanilla typing is already great and often the best thanks to its amazing coverage. The goal also stays the same, taking hits to boost Rage Fist to a point everything starts to drop (2 hits = 150 is already enough in general). Camomons just allows to change Fighting STAB by Ground one with Earthquake (however losing Drain Punch recovery might suck) or to make some RestTalk with Facade variant.
However a majority of the council members found we were lacking evidence of Annihilape to be broken or over-restrictive.
We first missed this mon but it will be added on the watchlist whenever Euphonos is available.

Rest assured we're still working to improve the metagame balance while ensuring fun! :) Thanks a lot to you all who voted Camomons for OMoTM making our tier in the second place! Maybe we'll do it next time

- Aqua Step
- Swords Dance
- Roost

Quite unexplored mon up to now considering nobody brought it (maybe Palapapop but I can't remember everything he plays lol) but with a great potential. What makes Quaquaval interesting in Camomons is the ability to run 2 really great typings,
and
.

allows to combine in one set a potential sweeper, breaker and defensive check which is truly amazing. Brave Bird is a really strong STAB able to pierce walls especially with the support of Sword Dance. Because recoil damages might be an issue we're playing Roost to ensure more staying power. Moreover it's a way to offer to this mon some cool defensive utility taking advantage of a decent bulk. Aqua Step is Quaquaval's signature move with decent base power but what makes it really interesting is the secondary effect boosting your speed by 1. Thanks to this move Quaquaval can outspeed what's often considered as the fastest relavant mon, Dragapult, just after clicking the move once.
If you manage to get a SD up while clicking this move, this mon can become a killing machine especially considering Moxie while boost even more your attack stat whenever you take a kill.
In more offensive teams you might think to drop HDB to play Acrobatics instead of Brave Bird to be sure recoils will not be a limitting factor for a potential sweep. You start to be weak to rocks however.

is a well known typing in Camomons and tbh we have other abusers like Slither Wing (Acrobatics + CC), Braviary (Acrobatics/BB + CC), Staraptor (BB + CC) or Flamigo (BB +CC). However to me Quaquaval might be the best and the most versatile one.
You can make it a great breaker with some defensive utility thanks to Sword Dance and Roost, make it a breaker/sweeper when replacing Roost by Rapid Spin or Aqua Step) or play it as Choice Scarfer/Choice Bander with U-Turn to pivot arround.

Vanilla Quaquaval can also work as setup sweeper or choiced mon especially thanks to Aqua Jet priority making the Band set better. However we have to consider Camomons metagame and especially
Garchomp,
Dragapult or
Clodsire with WA switching quite easily in such STAB combination.

Variants in brackets are mostly unviable ones because the
one mostly has the same trouble as the
one but doesn't benefit from STAB Aqua Step or STAB Aqua Jet.
one is offensively trash but the typing is good defensively so you might try some defensive one with U-Turn, Rapid Spin and Roost. Is it better than Corviknight? Certainly not.

I hope you're now convinced that Quaquaval could be great in Camomons being able to be what Gyarodos wanted to be all these generations and even more!

Banned last generation, Hydreigon is back the game. However it has been a bit nerfed this generation by the lose of Roost that made it able to setup and sit in many things thanks to some great defensive typings combined to Levitate. It also somehow prevents Hydreigon to run LO being now unable to threat a 2HKO on Slowking or make things not that easy vs Seismic Toss Blissey.
But well, if you didn't know the time where Hydreigon was part of the SS Camomons metagame (good for you!), I will remind what made it an absolute beast.

Hydreigon gets a broad movepool including some really strong offensive typings such a Dragon, Ground, Water, Fire and Dark while benefiting from Steel defensively with Flash Cannon. You can thus make some really good combination abusing perfectly from Levitate to mitigate the weakness to Ground with only a few weaknesses. Such few weaknesses typings are perfect to sit and setup with Nasty Plot to become a breaking machine really hard to handle defensively due to walls having trouble threatening Hydreigon.

Nevertheless, Hydreigon in fact won something this generation that might even more powerful than Roost: terastallization. Because Hydreigon is able to run such great defensive and offensive typings forcing mainly offensive counterplay in revenge killing, terastallization is such a powerful addition for it. For instance, the
one can terastallize into Fairy, Ghost or Poison to mitigate its only weakness to Fighting making things like Iron Valiant, Lycanroc-Dusk, etc unable to revenge kill it with Close Combat. You can now play typings weak to Toxic to finally terastallize into Poison or Steel benefiting a lot from both poison immunity and Levitate while getting such great defensive type and keeping your initial great coverage. Because of this, Hydreigon is one of the most powerful terastallization abuser in the current metagame able to completely shatters your hopes in an instant.

Iron Moth is an incredibly flexible Pokemon in Camomons thanks to its wide movepool. Ditching its rather poor type combination in standard, and with a high base 110 Speed and absurd 145 SpA it is one of the most potentially threatening Pokemon.

It cannot, however, directly boost its Special Attack. No Calm Mind, No Quiver Dance. It has Fiery Dance, but that is unreliable.

Many types work for this set. I am personally a fan of Fire/Electric and Fire/Steel, the first for coverage and the second for its excellent defensive typing and Stealth Rock neutrality while maintaining the high base power from Fire STABs. This is the easiest and likely the best set for Iron Moth.

I believe it is valuable to have at least one of Volcarona's higher base power moves as a STAB on this set, which does mean you will be at best neutral to Stealth Rock. However more important than that is having the right type for your team, and this set can really work with just about any good typing.

This is the only real boosting set Iron Moth can run. It is designed to set up an Agility on a switch or a hit it tanks, nab a Fiery Dance Special Attack boost, and sweep through whatever remains of your opponents team. Obviously it is a cleaner and best used late game. Life Orb gives a non-situational damage boost but puts you on a timer, while Weakness Policy tries to find a way around Iron Moth's unreliable method of boosting, but honestly puts too much faith in its lopsided, middling, and uninvested bulk.

The typing is very specifically chosen to have STAB on Fiery Dance, which is very important to the set, and have the best defensive typing possible afterwards.
The EVs can definitely be optimized. I just haven't.

Other sets that I think are cool but don't want to write as much about because I'm tired
Choice Scarf: Similar to Specs, but you're super fast instead of super strong. Fiery Dance on this set might be considered to act as a cleaner, similarly to the Agility set, but without a boosting item the low BP will be very noticeable.

Toxic Spikes: A three attacks set with Toxic Spikes sounds cool. Probably the worst out of these sets though.

Poison Heal is one of the best passive recoveries in Pokemon, and Breloom has an abundance of sets that can utilize it varying from SubPunch, SubSeed and AoA with Facade and Close Combat. In addition to its plethora of great Physical moves, Breloom also has access to Spore, allowing it to make progress against just about anything save for Gholdengo. It also creates the mind game of whether or not they have Spore. Breloom suffers quite heavily from 4MSS, but it can function perfectly fine with or without Spore, leaving your opponent to guess as to whether or not you have it. This factor could give you the opportunity to either set up or surprise them with a coverage move. Beyond that, Technician gives you the ability to mitigate Breloom's poor speed with the strongest Mach Punch in the game. Breloom possess the coverage to be practically unwallable against a lot of MU's (Ghost/Steel walls all variants besides Bulldoze), making it extremely threatening to Balance and Offenses alike due to its Swiss Army Knife toolkit.

Hazard stack is incredibly powerful right now due to everyone and their mothers getting Spikes and Stealth Rocks, as well as the overall lack of Defog. It is also in large part to Gholdengo being so good at stopping removal due to its immunity to Defog and Rapid Spin (Mortal Spin as well if Steel-type). Beyond having one of the best abilities in all of Pokemon, it also has access to some of the best type combinations available defensively and offensively. Recover allows you to leverage your amazing defensive typing and gives Gholdengo increased longevity, allowing it to annoy teams by preventing removal or by aiding in wallbreaking. Speaking of which, Nasty Plot allows Gholdengo to instantly boost its already great Special Attack stat to even higher levels, allowing it to become of the tier's best breakers with its combinations of STABs. It possesses coverage for just about everything, and outside of Blissey (who can't touch Gholdengo), Gholdengo is able to shred most of the meta with a NP up. The ability to aid in keeping hazards up, in addition to the defensive utility and wallbreaking potential of Gholdengo, makes it one of the top mons in S/V Camomons. It is a staple that can be easily splashed on teams and can be easily adapted to your teams weaknesses or strengths. I don't think any team gets worse with Gholdengo on the team.

Posting in order to give visibility to Gholdengo set strangely edited 3 days after and asking, even if it's because I don't play the tier much but at least I can understand it better and maybe I'll be able to defeat Siamato thanks to those advices, how would you counter Gholdengo ? It's a mon I find pretty strong with decent bulk great SpA but also good stabs (the 120 BP Steel move is underrated imo even if less stronger in camo) and even with "only" 4 coverage moves it looks very annoying to counter - do you recommand things ?
I'd also like to say that Heavy Duty Boots on Breloom is a federal crime and no one should ever use this item on Breloom pls its not like 12% are gonna make a difference on a mon with a bulk of 60/60 lol..

- U-turn

The new mascot of the Camomons metagame!

Meowscarada is the new shining Grass "starter" of this Camomons generation. This mon isn't really impressive looking only at its stats although we may notice a high speed (as high as Noivern's one in fact) and a decent Atk. To make it great and really interesting, we need 2 more things:

- A great ability, Protean. Although being nerfed, Protean still behaves in the same way in case of a choice locked mon. Therefore, you keep the STAB boost for all your moves which is great.

- A great movepool. Indeed Meowscarada gets the quite rare this generation but great move, Knock Off! This move is just so good hitting quite hard while removing boots/leftovers from the opposing mons. It's the key move to prevent mons like Ting-Lu or Wo-Chien to switch-in for fear of getting their Leftovers removed. It also takes advantage of its great speed with U-Turn making it an excellent offensive pivot. Other cool moves are available such as Play Rough and Flower Trick with good base power. Mention to priority moves it also gets and Thunder Punch offering an interesting coverage option against Flying. You can even put hazards like a Ash-Greninja back in SM OU.

Pairing all of these together, it's easier to understand why Meowscarada is great in Camomons; although not so different from the OU one.

The 3 most relevants typings are those which allow to combine the 4 "best" moves, Knock Off, Flower Trick, Play Rough and U-Turn in a set. You can just pick the one the most adapted to your needs defensively or the one hiding the best a move. Like
can lure in a
Corviknight to hit it so hard with Band Play Rough. You're hiding the "coverage" move.

Choice Scarf is less relevant with Roaring Moon ban but is still working as one of the best speed control you might find in the current metagame. On this one, Foul Play is more interesting in order to revenge kill things like Baxcalibur after a DD, SD Weak Armor activated (Adamant) Ceruledge, etc.

Florges @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flower Veil
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 248 HP / 232 Def / 24 SpD / 4 Spe
Calm Nature
- Moonblast
- Synthesis
- Calm Mind
- Copycat

Florges is back in the game after quite a long time and with it, the new generation of Calm Minder comes!

Florges has limited typing options due to its movepool being mainly Grass and Fairy moves but, to be honest,
is already a really cool typing! If it's not necessarily the best typing for setup due to many weaknesses, it's still a great defensive typing with many resists to work with in-game. Moreover, Florges can finally take advantage from Flower Veil protecting Florges from status moves and stats lowering if it's Grass.

The use of Synthesis as recovery option and Grass move allows to get freedom for your last move. You can put Wish to help teammates if Florges is unable to setup but another fun and interesting option is Copycoat. This move may seem quite gimmick but it's a way to be opportunist. You may think to some situations where you're able to copy moves likes hazards, hazard removal, Knock Off, recovery, setup or just offensive moves. It's a way to give Florges some (unpredictable) utility! Otherwise you ofc have the option of Giga Drain as Grass STAB helping a bit with recovery but really offering 0 utility which is definitely not ideal considering Steel, Fire or Poison mons can often easily stop you.

Another addition that makes Florges particularly interesting for the moment is of course terastallization. Florges is able terastallize as Poison or Steel therefore changing a lot its resists and weaknesses to prevent revenge killing on the spot and sometimes be able to turn revenge killers/walls to setup fodders.

This generation, Florges gets Chilling Water which is honestly quite a bad move but allows Florges to get the
typing with few weaknesses making it better for setup. Chilling Water also drops the opposing mon Atk stat helping Florges to stay even against physical hits.

The last variant in brackets doesn't benefit from Flower Veil but
is just an amazing defensive typing making it still interesting as bulky setup or bulky Wisher.

Of course, this mon has many flaws and especially its low physical bulk making it quite fragile on the physical side therefore offering options to break through. However its SpD is just insanely high so you can make this mon able to take hits from Choice Specs Dragapult and Iron Moth, Chi-Yu, Iron Valiant or Sandy Shocks depending on typing.

Happy holidays and merry christmas everybody!

Heavy Duty Boots Breloom? What are you talking about, Osake? I'm not quite sure I follow. The post has no mention of HDB at all. :worrywhirl:
Anyways to answer your question with Gholdengo, there's two way I see it with trying to match up with Gholdengo: 1) General checks/counters and 2) Gholdengo as a means to keep hazards up.

Bulky pivots are a great way to check Gholdengo. Taking a lesson from S/S Camomons, Slowking blanket checked just about every powerful Special Attacker in the game due to being able to at least face-tank 1-2 hits before pivoting out into something that can threaten a KO. The same principle applies here with Gholdengo, except we have a lot less pivots available to us now. Slowking, Bellibolt, and Iron Treads are the only mons that currently fit this bill, where they have access to defensive-typings to take on Gholdengo, as well as the stats and possess pivot moves in Chilling Reception and Volt Switch. Gholdengo can muscle pass them with enough boosts, but for the most part you are generably able to survive at least one hit. Normal/Ghost Blissey can wall Gholdengo and throw some hits back, but it does lack the ability to pivot like last gen with Teleport, making it a less desirable option. Ting Lu is a very splashable option on a lot of teams due to its great bulk and move-set, but it is very susceptible to being worn down or even chunked with Focus Blast.

Beyond bulky pivots, I think probably the best way to check Gholdengo are offensive threats that are bulky on the Special Defensive side. Kinggambit is a good example of this where it has both the bulk and offensive stats to check Gholdengo in a lot of cases (those other cases being Focus Blast). Two other popular options are Volcarona and Iron Moth, who are potent offensive threats and sweepers with great SpD and access to recovery in Morning Sun. Even without investing into SpD, they're both bulky enough to switch into Gholdengo and tank a hit and potentially threaten with a KO or set-up in Volcarona's case. Chi-Yu fits this bill to a lesser except, although it resists both of Gholdengo's popular STABs (Ghost and Steel) as opposed to just Steel. Chi-Yu is more susceptible to hazards though since Volcarona and Iron Moth almost always want HDB to begin with; while Chi-Yu has other items it likes to run like Choice Scarf of Choice Specs. Beyond that, other niche options could include Skeledirge (Ground/Fire), Noivern (with Flamethrower), Dundunsparce with EQ, Umbreon (Calm Mind?), and Slitherwing (Fire-typing).

I won't get into #2 as much since you mostly asked for checks/counters, but for Gholdengo hazard stacking, Iron Treads/Great Tusk are your best friends (aside from Heavy Duty Boots) here since they can threaten Knock Off if you try to switch into Rapid Spin. Beyond that it is mainly a playstyle MU. Offenses can create enough pressure to deter openings for your opponent to stack hazards, or conversely you can use that pressure to put yourself into a position for removal. HO archetypes such as Screens HO don't mind hazards as much since your opponent might not have the leisure to set up hazards in front of you. Beyond that, I'd try to make your teams less hazard weak in general through the use of HDB and typings/abilities such as Flying or Levitate. I spoke with Siamato about this, and an option you can do is stack hazards yourself. Gholdengo blocks Defog for both sides, meaning you can leverage Good as Gold to your advantage as well. Although, IMO a good Gholdengo + Hazards team should have reliable way of spinning, such as Iron Treads, to account for this.

Earthquakes can't shake it; cyclones can't break it; hurricanes can't take away its presence. All hail the [rage-inducing] salt pyramid, built on a solid rock, Garganacl.

:sv/garganacl:
Garganacl
Stats: 100/100/130/45/90/35

Fling
Thunder Punch
Body Press
Fire Punch
Curse
Earthquake
Avalanche
Body Slam / Recover
Zen Headbutt
Salt Cure / Stealth Rock
Iron Defense / Iron Head
Rain Dance

Bold denotes relevant and commonly-used moves; Italic denotes the sole (usually useless) move only for the sake of typing and must be used when definitely needed (but usually gets outclassed by other Pokemon).

Garganacl is one of the towering Pokemon in the Camomons metagame, competing with Ting-Lu as the premier mixed wall. One of the greatest assets for this Pokemon is Salt Cure, which punishes even the bulkiest Steel- and Water-types. However, if one elects to run Salt Cure, its downfall is either forgoing Stealth Rock (you have to use another Pokemon if you need to fulfill the role of a Stealth Rock user), or end up running a rather subpar Rock/[Ground/Steel] typing; as such, support is needed to fill in the gaps.

If Terastallization remains in the metagame, then Garganacl can take advantage of the Flying typing to tank most attacks, especially Fire and Fighting attacks that are initially super-effective against it. With these advantages and proper support options, Garganacl will definitely be a great asset to the team.

Stay tuned for more Camomons news. On my end, I've been working on a Camomons-related project (also enlisting the help of someone not part of the council) that enumerates almost every notable move on every single Pokemon (even those that are not fully evolved and are banned in this metagame). Watch out for that!

I promised Siamato a post 2 weeks ago, but couldn't deliver due to busyness. This post won't be as comprehensive as I wanted it to be, but I will post some stuff at least...

:sv/dragapult::
Dragapult @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Infiltrator
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hex
- Will-O-Wisp
- U-turn

This guy is very strong with rilla/tran out of the way and blissey losing TP - Ghost/Elec is pretty much unresisted as wisp+hex owns most ground types. Really nice offensive pivot.

Speaking of ground types, this is a set Iike on skelly:

:sv/skeledirge:
Skeledirge @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Grass/Water/Dragon
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Torch Song
- Slack Off
- Curse

Curse + Torch Song does an interesting CM impression, is a solid unaware wall with wincon potential.

:sv/wo-chien:
Wo-Chien @ Leftovers
Ability: Tablets of Ruin
Tera Type: Fairy/Grass/Water
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Knock Off
- Poison Powder
- Leech Seed
- Protect

This guy does a lot of work, Knock off/PP/LS makes progress vs pretty much everything. Slowking can be annoying, but with hazard up you will eventually wear it down.

I was gonna post Garga as well but Euphonos beat me to it... Smh. The mon is good, don't sleep on it!

You may have noticed that I didn't read the "Siamato's sets of the week" last week and you were wondering what was happening right? Yeah I know I'm sorry but I wasn't able to bring you your daily soap opera because I was writting something else... The Camomons Viability List!! But dw we come back next week (or this one maybe?).

Camomons [preliminary] Viability List
Pokemon in each rank are listed in alphabetical order.
The purpose of this resource is to classify in ranks the viable Pokemon in SV Camomons while showing as much as possible the most viable typings. The more the viability of the Pokemon, the more the details.

For Pokemon in the ★★★ HIGH ★★★ rank, best typings are shown as well as more niche typings (between brackets). The movepool of the Pokemon is also included to see easier how to get which or which type.

For Pokemon in the ★★ MID ★★ rank, only best typing are shown.

Finally, for Pokemon in the ★ LOW ★ rank, no additional information are available.

This Viability List is for information only with the goal to give a better picture of the metagame; you can of course play whatever Pokemon you want with whatever typing based on its movepool. However, from a competitive point of view, this resource will help you identifying the biggest threats in order to adapt your teambuilding while giving you ideas.

This list results of a vote held by the Camomons council members in order to get a first picture of the metagame. We estimated the viability of the different Pokemon based on what we've seen in-game so far and also by theorymonning. Each council members vote is available there.

If you think a Pokemon deserves to be in this list or should be changed of rank, you can nominate it in the thread! However, note this is a preliminary viability list so it's obviously going to change and to be refined the more the meta grows.

Tagging Euphonos for resource post edition! Also can you edit the typing list pls I don't want to delete your <variable> things again and again when I just want to c/c type in my posts :sob:
