One of my favorite cores to use on rain, they also work pretty decently together on some Mag stuff. Offensively they cover a wide range of stuff with powerful supereffective moves and provide great speed control for their team. They both tend to be checked by similar things like Wotom, Ferro, and situationally other bulky waters, so they help break down checks for each other. While neither are defensive mons, they have good type synergy and can pivot into certain moves in a pinch. Mie can pivot into Steel, Water, and Fighting moves if need be while Mamo offers great priority and an Electric immune.

Heatrans kinda fallen off since gem ban but I think it still has some great use, and IMO a mandatory partner is Latios. Not an interesting or controversial opinion to say Latios is a good pairing with something, but they pivot around their checks very well and can be customized to help break each others checks. Latios sponges Water Fighting and Ground moves very well, while Heatran is a great pivot into many Ice and Dragon moves like Ice Shard and Draco. The balloon rocker Tran set is solid into HO, but I've liked using other tech moves like HP Grass, Wisp, and Roar on some specific stuff.

Amoonguss undoubtedly fell hard ever since the Sleep ban. Ever since the SPL XI, Amoonguss had been slowly but surely overshadowed by Celebi, who fulfilled Amoonguss's role as a sturdy Water-resist far better than it did. That said, I feel like it has a niche that Celebi can't replicate: spreading Paralysis. With how fast-paced the metagame is, Paralysis is deadlier than ever and Amoonguss delivers that role in spades. While its walling capabilities are restricted against fast-paced HO teams such as Smurf, none of the Pokemon can really switch into it safely due to Stun Spore. Another overlooked factor is that it learns Clear Smog, which can be even more irritating to any setup sweeper planning to take advantage of Amoonguss' passivity.

And with how effective Amoonguss is at spreading Paralysis, it's no surprise that Amoonguss' effective partners are with offensive ground types. SD Gliscor, SD Chomp, SD Lando-T, SubTect Drill and Mamo are all threatening on their own but often struggle to break through common pokemon such as Skarmory, Keldeo, Latios, Alakazam and Dragonite. With Para support neutering them all, they can sweep unopposed.

:heatran::terrakion:

This is a fairly iconic pairing to any old-school BW player, but newer players may be a bit perplexed due to the two having overlapping weaknesses to dangerous threats such as Latios. Back then, Slowbro used to be far more popular than Slowking it is now due to its ability to wall Terrakion. Players had used several means to circumvent this, such as pairing Terrakion with other Pokemon that are similarly walled by Slowbro, such as Landorus-T, Excadrill and Dragonite. Heatran was also a popular pick due to its ability to lure in Slowbro with Magma Storm and to take it out with Sunny Day + Solar Beam.

Today, the metagame has radically changed. People became more invested in Special Walls such as Celebi and Slowking with their ability to stave off Keldeo, which meant that Slowbro was slowly, but surely fading out of the limelight. Is this pair still good? Well... sort of. Terrakion itself kind of lost its unbreakable status due to faster threats such as Latios, Alakazam and Keldeo robbing it of its thunder, but it still sees some respectable use in high-level tournaments. Like Terrakion, Heatran is a pokemon that is notoriously difficult to switch into, meaning that a pokemon such as Latios or Keldeo would have to be sacrificed to take Heatran down. With those offensive threats out of the way, Terrakion has a much easier time attempting a sweep because it would have to risk being taken down by those aforementioned threats.

These two have some overlapping checks in bulky Ground types like Lando and Gliscor, and there are actually two ways to capitalize on this. The first is MixChomp + Terrak set of choice to bait in the Grounds for them to be beaten down by the lure set that MixChomp is in order for Terrak to easily power through them later. The other option is to have both be physical breaker sets to force damage on the checks by brute force alone.

Their slight defensive differences let them offensively check each other's checks (e.g., Terrak can beat Mamo while Chomp can beat Loom), but they have many overlaps such as both offensively checking Drill and Thundy. Their shared weaknesses (Scald, Spikes, Latios, Alakazam) mean that the remaining four team members will have to be chosen carefully, however.

One possible third member would be Cloyster. Cloy can spin away the spikes that these two hate, check the psychic types with Ice Shard, and punish the use of bulky Grounds to check Chomp/Terrak (which lightens the burden to weaken the grounds but instead capitalizes just on them being forced in).

:bw/Scizor: or :bw/Tyranitar: + :bw/Salamence: or :bw/Kyurem-Black: or :bw/Garchomp:

The bottom line here is Pursuit + Dragon, particularly concerning the dragons that can be decent when scarfed (Chomp and Mence) or are infamous for being a 1 for 1 demon (KyuB). The general goal is to be able to trap Latios, the most notable revenge killer for these physical dragons. Scarf Chomp/Mence (as well as DD Mence) only need Scarf Latios trapped, but KyuB and non-Scarf Chomp appreciate any Latios getting trapped. Pursuit also has the added effect of trapping Alakazam, who is also a thorn in the dragons' sides.

:bw/Volcarona: :bw/Cloyster:
These two were infamous during Gem meta, but even now they're an effective duo. Volc teams only really function when one minimizes the presence of Stealth Rock, and Cloy (particularly those with Spin) is a every effective way of doing so when it is by far the best punisher of Ground type rockers like Gliscor. Volc, in turn, preys on Grass rockers like Rain Ferrothorn.
