Welcome to Break This Team: Monotype Edition! This is a thread where we will take a common team or archetype every week and figure out what can beat it! For the interest of the project in a Monotype environment, there will be one fairly major change to the formula: you cannot submit cores of a type that has an advantage vs the type of the team given. For example, I don't want a bunch of Water cores to beat a Fire team, I wanna see what Grass would need to beat it. This is done so that the project is challenging for you guys, and not completely simple.

Rules:

- Don't posts teams or suggestions for teams here please. PM me.
- Cores should consist of 2-3 pokemon which, of course, share a type. You will need to include a short description of what these mons will do to beat the team given (Think RMT pokemon description length). These Pokemon must come from the type's respective viability ranking found here.
- Standard Smogon and forum rules apply.
- Posting phase is from Monday to Friday, while Voting phase is on the weekend. However, I may start or end a phase earlier or later if I need to.
- A user will feature in the Hall of Fame if they win a round more than 3 times.

Basically BoltBeam Latias alone does serious damage to Flying, once u get a few CM's up then u basically sweep the team except if Skarmory has whirlwind which is what Victini is for as it can easily revenge kill it. Slowbro is a great addition because if gyarados does successfully set up, u live a crunch with colbur berry and return a thunder wave allowing victini to revenge kill.

Despite Mega Gyara and Lando, I don't think Rock should be allowed.

Despite Mega Gyara and Lando, I don't think Rock should be allowed.
After discussing it with a few of my friends, I decided that rock does not particularly have a great matchup vs this team and is quite easy for the flying team to beat, between skarmory, landorus and mega-gyarados. Therefore rock cores will still be allowed. If you still think it should be banned, PM me on smogon.

Galvantula @ Life Orb
Ability: Compound Eyes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Thunder
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Sticky Web

Armaldo @ Leftovers
Ability: Battle Armor
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stone Edge
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock

The core is pretty straight forward. Armaldo is your rock setter and also spinner of the team. It can set up rocks to support Galvantula which then proceeds to punch a hole in the team as it can OHKO every mon on the team after rocks except Zapdos, but Zapdos gets 2HKO'ed after rocks by Thunder so you would have to first sac a mon to get it in safely. But even if Zapdos comes in safely, Armaldo is here again not only to set up the possibly defogged rocks, but also to easily beat Zapdos with Stone Edge.
252 SpA Life Orb Galvantula Thunder vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Gyarados: 307-361 (92.7 - 109%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Life Orb Galvantula Thunder vs. 144 HP / 252+ SpD Zapdos: 148-175 (41.4 - 49%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Life Orb Galvantula Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Landorus: 338-400 (105.9 - 125.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Life Orb Galvantula Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Dragonite: 281-333 (86.9 - 103%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Stunfisk @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Static
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Discharge
- Earthpower

Raikou @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]

- Defensive stunfisk to setup rocks, take on ES from dragonite and break its multiscale with rockyhelmet, discharge to hit mons in general, and earthpower to deal damage to skarmory and zapdos if they hit roost on this thing. Toxic to hit zapdos and any other mons.
- Sub CM raikou is almost an auto win after some SR setup and previous damage from stunfisk, Raikou outspeeds every mon on this team due to being immune to twave, and this team not having a scarfer. Easiest way to win would be to sub on a zapdos thats gonna use toxic/defog on you, and zapdos cant touch you or break the sub.

252+ Atk Dragonite Extreme Speed vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Stunfisk: 79-94 (18.7 - 22.2%) -- possible 5HKO
252+ Atk Dragonite Extreme Speed vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Raikou: 124-146 (38.6 - 45.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Zapdos Discharge vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Raikou: 52-62 (16.1 - 19.3%) -- possible 8HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252 SpA Raikou Thunderbolt vs. 248 HP / 180+ SpD Zapdos: 166-196 (43.3 - 51.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+1 252 SpA Raikou Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Gyarados: 320-380 (96.6 - 114.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252 SpA Raikou Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Thundurus: 216-256 (72.2 - 85.6%) -- 75% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
Needless to say Raikou 1hko's skarm with tbolt, lando with hp ice, and dragonite with hp ice after multi is easily gone via stunfisk rocky helmet.

Basically, the premise of the core is to weaken everything for Absol to sweep.

Absol-Mega : I decided to use this CM BoltBeam Absol set because it's a set that isn't used at all and has a particular niche. After +1 and/or rocks, Absol OHKO's everything except for Zapdos which is easily 2HKO'd. Also, keep in mind that you can use the stronger less accurate BoltBeam in Thunder + Blizzard to guarantee some KO's. It would have been much easier to use Mega TTar as DD just destroys this team but the uniqueness is the main reason I chose Absol.

Mandibuzz : Main purpose is to check/counter Mega Gyara as it is one of the few things that lives an unboosted Tbolt from Absol. With that addition of Iron Defense, it can handle it much more comfortable and can subsequently wall BandNite. When you look at the spread, you're probably like 'wtf'. The reason for the 164 Spe Timid is to outspeed the Dragonite and not just act as fodder when it switches in. It allows Mandi to possible take 3 Outrages and even Iron Defense on an (unfortunate ;c) Confusion hit. Taunt is simply for Skarm.

Tyranitar : TTar is mainly just the rock setter and a back up for when things dont go as planned. Not much to the set other than the Ice Beam for Dnite and/or Landorus as it lives any hit from either for it tanks a Superpower/Focus Blast with the spread. It also lives a +1 Waterfall from Mega Gyara and neutralizes it with Thunder Wave.

Absol-Mega

basically, this core is centered around getting hazards up and sweeping with banded terrakion. no switchins exist to this monster, especially with webs and rocks up. with knock off, it can catch pokemon like porygon2 on a switch in and knock off its eviolite allowing it to get OHKOd by close combat. rocks pressure staraptor and it can no longer switch in.
-1 252 Atk Choice Band Terrakion Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Staraptor: 177-208 (47.3 - 55.6%) -- 19.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
with rocks up, a 2hko is guaranteed. ditto can be an issue, but shuckle can switch in on scarf close combats and threaten it with Knock off

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

Basically the strategy is setting up screens with klefki to support a Slurpuff Belly Drum sweep and then win. A Reflect / Light Screen allows Slurpuff to live a Return / Hurricane, Belly Drum and then Drain Punch everything. It can even set up on Chansey / Porygon2 as it can Aromatherapy away paralysis or poison and can heal up with Drain Punch on Porygon2. Ditto can't beat Slurpuff after Belly Drum because of Slurpuff's ability, Unburden which allows it to outspeed Ditto.

- Secret Sword
Azumarill with Knock Off cripples Normal's core and with access to STAB + Banded Priority, it can clean up anything that outspeeds it.

If Keldeo with Specs Secret Sword isn't enough to beat this core, then Hydro Pump for Mega Pidgeot should do the trick.
