[BH] Registeel [QC 1/3]

  • Registeel is a Pokemon of great defensive utility given its incredible 80/150/150 bulk and Steel typing.
  • Its bulk and typing allows it to take many hits from threats such as Diancie-Mega, Rayquaza-Mega, and many other threats.
  • It can run a number of useful abilities such as Magic Bounce, Prankster or Regenerator that will make it difficult to the opponent to determine which set Registeel is running on team preview.
  • Additionally, its slow speed let Registeel use a very slow U-turn, that safely brings on the field a teammate after the opponent has already acted.
  • Unfortunately, Steel is a common defensive typing and many Pokemon, such as Diancie-Mega or Mewtwo-Mega-Y, carry coverage that heavily damages Registeel, such as V-Create, Earth Power or Blue Flare.
  • Its passiveness is also a disappointing reality, as it is usually incapable of pressuring or KOing the Pokemons it is supposed to wall or check.
  • All in all, Registeel is one of the best walls in the meta and thus a great glue for many team.

Overview

[Prankster]

Registeel @ Leftovers / Safety Googles
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Haze / Topsy-Turvy / Encore
- Destiny Bond
- Shore Up
- U-turn / Parting Shot

Moves
  • Haze nullifies any boost the opponent may have accumulated and unlike the other options it works under Psychic Terrain and against Dazzling. It is however a huge momentum drainer since the opponent can simply setup again on Registeel, generating mind games as Registeel doesn't want to leave the ground if the opponent is boosted but wasting a turn on Haze when the opponent switches out is detrimental.
  • Topsy-Turvy inverts stats and usually forces out the opponent since they'll lack any firepower.
  • Encore forces to repeat the same move for a few turns and it is useful even when the opponent hasn't boosted since it can force to repeat moves that Registeel or its teammates won't mind, possibly offering free switches to teammates that sports immunities to them, like most priority moves blocked by Psychic Terrain Dazzling, Spore, Nuzzle and Will-o-Wisp negated by Poison Heal, or moves stopped by typing immunities, like Core Enforcer against Fairy types. Additionally, Registeel may evade an opponent trying to use Trick by encoring the move with priority. Pokemon carrying items that can't be removed, such as Z-crystals, can afterwards switch in for free.
  • Topsy-Turvy and Encore are negated by immunity to priority and Dark Types, however.
  • Destiny Bond is used when the boosting opponent can 2HKO you no matter the boosts, taking down the opponent while resetting momentum, but it must be used very consciously since Registeel will be removed from the battle and this is detrimental if Registeel had to check other threats. It isn't worth to use it if the opponent can be walled by another teammate, and in general it should be used only when you don't have any more options.
  • Shore Up keeps Registeel healthy by recovering half of its total HP; its 16 PP plus its additional effectiveness under sand makes the move the best one from recovery options.
  • U-turn always work, safely brings your teammates on the field, and given Registeel's speed it will make Destiny Bond last for 2 turns. It additionally breaks sashes.
  • Parting Shot can be used to switch out from an opponent while weakening it, but being powered by Prankster means that the move is going to fail when used against Psychic Terrain, Dazzling and Dark types.

Set Details

  • Leftovers sightly extends Registeel lifespan.
  • Safety Goggles on the other hand makes it immune to Spore.
  • Absolute minimum speed is used to act last against faster enemies, allowing teammates a safe switch in with U-turn.
  • Minimum Attack is used, even with U-turn, to reduce the very rare confusion damage and to reduce the health healed by any opponent using Strenght Sap.
  • A Relaxed nature can be used if the player decide to wall a bit better physical moves, as the small increase in physical bulk allows Registeel to avoid the OHKO from V-create coming from Diancie-Mega with an Expert Belt or Rayquaza-Mega without a boosting item, while decreasing the chance of OHKO if they carry a more powerful boosting item.

Usage Tips

  • Send Registeel in with slow pivoting moves or predicted boosting moves from the opponent, if Registeel can stop it from sweeping on its tracks.
  • If the opponent is able to break all of your team, you should attempt to Destiny Bond it to avoid dealing with it.
  • If the opponent when unboosted poses no threat, then neutralize it with Haze, Encore or Topsy-Turvy and prepare to switch out since the opponent will likely do it too.
  • Given its bulk and access to priority recovery, Registeel is a great answer to Regigigas, Mewtwo-Mega-Y, Diancie-Mega, Rayquaza-Mega and many other attackers, as it usually walls them and if it doesn't, Registeel can knock them out with Destiny Bond.

Team Options
  • Giratina, especially when running Fur Coat, is a great partner as there aren't many Pokemon that can break both without running a particular movepool.
  • Audino-Mega is another great partner as Registeel is immune to Poison and resists Steel, the only types Audino-Mega is weak to.
  • Because Prankster, targeted moves are blocked by Dark typing, Diancie-Mega is a fantastic offensive partner since it checks all the Dark types in the meta.
[RegenVest Pivot]

Registeel @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Core Enforcer
- U-turn
- Rapid Spin / Knock Off
- Metal Burst

Moves
  • Core Enforcer is a great move that shuts down the ability of the opponent if it acted before you. Poison Heal and -ate Pokemon are usually forced out immediately, given Registeel's very slow speed triggering very often the disabling effect of Core Enforcer .
  • U-turn keeps the momentum on your side, allowing other pokemons to switch in safely; by virtue of Regenerator, Registeel will also recover a third of its HP.
  • Rapid Spin removes the hazard on your field.
  • Knock Off removes the item of the opponent.
  • Metal Burst punish hitters that try to OHKO Registeel with SE coverage: for example Sheer Force Life Orb Mewtwo-Mega-Y using Blue Flare has a 56% chance of being OHKOed back without any prior damage.
Set Details
  • An Assault Vest is used to take much better many special attacks like Boomburst or Psycho Boost powered by Psychic terrain.
  • Minimum speed is used to provide a safe U-turn to any teammate; it also increases the effectiveness of Core Enforcer as its powerful side effect only applies if the opponent has acted before Registeel.
  • A Relaxed Nature is used to sightly increase physical bulk, as the Assault Vest already covers the special side of Registeel's defenses and the additional Defense is recommended since Registeel avoids the OHKO or has reduced chance of being OHKOed from V-create carried as coverage move from threats like Rayquaza-Mega and Diancie with a boosting item. Diancie-Mega needs a Life Orb to threaten a OHKO, while Rayquaza-Mega only needs an Expert Belt.
  • Regenerator allows Registeel to keep itself healthy even if it cannot run non-attacking moves.
Usage Tips
  • Assault Vest Registeel has a very easy time switching in special attacks like -ate Rayquaza-Mega due to its bulk. He can then shutdown most -ate due to Core Enforcer or remove theirs items with Knock Off.
  • When you predict a switch you may use U-turn to keep momentum on your side and heal Registeel for 1/3 of its maximum health.
  • Because Registeel's healthiness depends solely on switching out, try to switch it in even on passive opponents.
  • Try to avoid switching into Core Enforcers, as while you are pretty much guaranteed to take next to no harm, they'll remove your only chance of healing.
  • It is handy to know that Diancie-Mega and Rayquaza-Mega running V-create for coverage never OHKO this set unless they are running a +Atk Nature and an Expert Belt or Life Orb, which they usually don't.
Team Options
  • A dedicated physical wall is appreciated since this Registeel cannot tank very well physical hits. Giratina and Zygarde are great examples, but unorthodox walls like Fur Coat Audino-Mega works well too.
  • Many special attackers like Tinted Lens Mewtwo-Mega-Y, Psychic Surge Mewtwo-Mega-Y and general -ate finds themselves walled when not carrying anything specific for Assault Vest Registeel: this makes the latter a great check to their imposter.
  • Because of its increased special bulk, you may elect to run fire coverage in Overheat on said offensive threats, as Registeel won't mind it when not boosted by Choice Specs.

[Magic Bounce]

Registeel @ Leftovers / Rocky Helmet
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Defog / Rapid Spin
- Shore Up
- Entrainment / Core Enforcer
- U-turn / Parting Shot

Moves
  • Defog removes hazards should not they be deflected by Registeel.
  • Rapid Spin is blocked by Ghost types but has more pp than entry hazards.
  • Shore Up keeps Registeel alive during the match.
  • Entrainment changes the ability of the opponent to Magic Bounce; this is particularly useful as Registeel can force out Pokemon that can ignore Core Enforcer's effects, either by typing or by acting after Registeel.
  • Core Enforcer is still perfectly viable as Registeel is slow enough to consistently trigger its effect and can still disable Magic Bounce.
  • U-turn is a pivoting move that cannot fail and isn't blocked by anything, thus offering great reliability.
  • Parting Shot grabs momentum by safely bringing on the field your teammates and doesn't allow the imposter to switch in as it will be immediately forced out, possibly racking up entry hazard damage. This can however be exploited by the opponent if they switch in a Pokemon that threaten Registeel. It additionally is reflected by Magic Bounce users.
  • In the case that Normalize Gengar is particularly deadly to your team, running Knock Off permanently cripples it.
Set Details
  • Magic Bounce allows Registeel to bounce back many utility moves the opponent might use, such as Stealth Rock.
  • Because Spore is reflected, this Registeel can freely run items other than Safety Googles, such as Leftovers for increased longevity or Rocky Helmet for punishing U-turn.
  • Minimum speed investment increases Core Enforcer efficiency as its effects depends on Registeel acting last and makes pivoting more rewarding by allowing the teammates a free switch in.
  • A Relaxed nature can be used if the player decide to wall a bit better physical moves; Registeel can avoid or significantly decrease the chance OHKO from many threat such as -ate users carrying V-create.
Usage Tips
  • This Registeel set rewards more an aggressive play style as correct predictions may win entire matches, such as reflecting entry hazards back to teams employing Shedinja.
  • It can reflect momentum by reflecting Parting Shot back to the user, forcing them in for another round while you can send in whatever you like.
  • Additionally it can steal Strenght Sap recovery, negating the opponent its recovery while Strenght Sap lowers its Attack.
  • Because of Magic Bounce, this Registeel has no trouble in switching into normalize Gengar-Mega as Entrainment will be reflected.
Team Options
  • Although this set is very effective at keeping hazards out of the field, it isn't definitive as Registeel struggles against Mold Breaker and offensive hazard setters. Safety Googles users, like Giratina and Kyogre-Primal, and Poison Heal users, such us Regigigas, can avoid Spore coming from Mold Breaker users, forcing them out and allowing Registeel to remove entry hazards that they may have set up.
  • Pokemon that exert offensive pressure, like Mewtwo-Mega-Y, Rayquaza-Mega and Diancie-Mega, can force out Pokemon that threaten Registeel, giving the latter the chance to remove hazards.
Other Options
  • Registeel can often run many abilities that fill a specific niche, such as Flash Fire to wall attackers with Fire coverage, Levitate to deal with Earth coverage (although it doesn't protect Registeel from Thousand Arrows), Fur Coat to pack a surprising amount of physical bulk or Unaware to check setup sweepers. They are generally sub-optimal, but they may be necessary to check or wall a specific threat, be it from the opponent or an impostored teammate.
  • Registeel can run a large number of utility moves to surprise the opponent, but they are usually viable only on the RegenVest Pivot set due to having more room to moves.
  • Spectral Thief punish set up as it steals all and only the boost of the opponent; it will also bypass Substitute; this move is particularly useful when running Unaware.
  • Nuzzle paralyzes the opponent unless it already suffers from another condition or is a Ground type.
  • Poison Fang is the only viable attacking option unaffected by Magic Bounce that can badly poison the opponent.
  • Beak Blast punish contact moves users by burning them.
  • Anchor Shot together with Core Enforcer removes Poison Heal users if they lack pivoting moves.
  • Taunt neutralizes the opponents' opportunities to heal, remove hazards with Defog or setup.
  • Entry hazards such as Stealth Rock or Toxic Spikes can weaken the opponent's team for your teammates.
Check and Counters
  • Strong Super Effective Attacks: The best way to deal with Registeel is using Super Effective coverage moves, such as Precipice Blades, V-Create, or Close Combat. Common examples are V-Create Diancie-Mega and Blue Flare Mewtwo-Mega-Y. Registeel may be immune to some of them once in a while however.
  • Groudon Primal: Even with its ban, regular Groudon Primal can still be a threatening force and can deal with Registeel with ease. It must be careful with the Prankster variant as it can bring it down with Destiny Bond, and when running Parting Shot it is untouchable as it will leave the field before it is hit.
  • Mextwo-Mega-X: Mewtwo-Mega-X can use its Fighting STAB moves to immediately remove Registeel, be it Close Combat, Superpower or Low Kick. It is still vulnerable to Destiny Bond.
  • Normalize Gengar-Mega: Once normalized, Registeel is completely helpless against Gengar-Mega unless it runs Encore, that can still annoy it. That said, Normalize Gengar is checked by Magic Bounce Registeel as it cannot be the target of Entrainment.
  • Imposter: Registeel and its imposter cannot usually touch each other, but because of imposter Registeel can be either PP stalled or be abused to heal health lost to other threats.
  • Trick: Some Choice item users, such as Specs -ate Rayquaza-Mega, may permanently trouble Registeel. Prankster sets carrying Encore can recover from this condition by immediately forcing the opponent to use again Trick, when they don't switch out or use themselves a priority move.

Plesae use bullet points until after you got all your qc's. It's probably against the rules to say that though, but you would have to fix this anyway, so it's better to say it now before you write more and have to fix all of it.

This seems pretty good tbh so ask Kris and if he doesn't mind you can just keep that like it is.

It'll just make harder to incorporate checks without being awkward.

Overview

[Prankster]

Registeel @ Leftovers / Safety Googles slash goggles before leftovers, icium z is also worth noting
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Haze / Topsy-Turvy / Encore
- Destiny Bond
- Shore Up / Strenght Sap
- Parting Shot / U-turn
are you sure destiny bond is 100% mandatory? haze encore + scarf imposter sounds clean. other moves like glare (to slow down guys), worry seed (to beat ph) and anchor shot (to deal damage/trap bois) also seem like viable 4th slots

Moves
  • Haze nullifies any boost the opponent may have accumulated and unlike the other options it works under Psychic Terrain and against Dazzling or Queenly Majesty. It is however a huge momentum drainer since the opponent can simply setup again on Registeel, generating mind games as Registeel doesn't want to leave the ground if the opponent is boosted but wasting a turn on Haze when the opponent switches out is detrimental. also haze's 64 pp is useful
  • Topsy-Turvy inverts stats and usually forces out the opponent since they'll lack any firepower. as long as they're boosted, you make it sound like it inverts stats not their boosts. say that it fails to stop dqm
  • Encore forces to repeat the same move for a few rounds and it is useful even when the opponent hasn't boosted since it can force to repeat moves that Registeel won't mind, like Oblivion Wing, Fake Out and Spore when carrying Safety Googles.
  • Topsy-Turvy and Encore are negated by immunity to priority and Dark Types, however.
  • Destiny Bond is used when the boosting opponent can 2HKO you no matter the boosts, but must be used very carefully since it is going to work only once and if the opponent sees it then it will take the necessary precautions to avoid it. It isn't worth to use it if the opponent can be walled by another teammate. destiny bond is also really useful for momentum. you can click it against a valuable guy that can kill you then just u turn out man
  • Shore Up keeps Registeel healthy.
  • Strenght Sap is an option to generally heal Registeel more than any other move as its bulk comes mostly from Defence and Special Defence. However Registeel won't be able to heal itself all the times as the move has a target and it will be blocked by immunity to priority or Dark types. Fur Coat Chansey can additionally prevent Registeel from recovering as its Attack is minimal.
  • Parting Shot can be used to get out from an opponent while weakening it, but suffers the same fate as Encore and Topsy-Turvy.
  • U-turn on the other hand always work, and given Registeel's speed it will make Destiny Bond last for 2 turns. It additionally breaks sashes.

Set Details

  • Leftovers sightly extends Registeel lifespan.
  • Safety Goggles on the other hand makes it immune to Spore and Hail. so what? you could slash choice specs and say "choice specs increases registeel's special attack by 50%" but how does that help registeel? give reasons why these items are good.
  • Absolute minimum speed is used to underspeed as many as possible Pokemons for a slow U-turn.
  • Minimum Attack is used, even with U-turn, to reduce the very rare confusion damage and to reduce the health healed by any opponent using Strenght Sap.
  • A Relaxed nature can be used if the player decide to wall a bit better physical moves.

Usage Tips

  • Send Registeel in when an opponent has boosted as Registeel can stop it from sweeping on its tracks. it can also kinda check specs mmy and others
  • If the opponent is able to break all of your team, you should attempt to Destiny Bond it to avoid dealing with it later; this will additionally reset momentum.
  • If the opponent when unboosted poses no threat, then neutralize it with Haze, Encore or Topsy-Turvy and prepare to switch out since the opponent will do it too. do this if they just used shell smash. be wary that if you run haze then you can't switch out safely because they could just smash again
  • Heal yourself when the opponent risks to 2HKO you but you aren't at full HP. man what that's just free damage for your opponent
  • When you are sure that the opponent has been stopped, switch out to something else to deal with what is left. click u-turn don't hard switch
  • As tempting as it can seem, don't run Defog on Prankster Registeel: while good on paper, you won't be able to remove hazards in front of Dark Types and anti priority. rapid spin sucks on it too bc it fails to threaten ghosts

Team Options
  • Giratina, especially when running Fur Coat, is a great partner as there aren't many Pokemon that can check both without running a particular movepool.
  • Mewtwo-Mega-Y likes Registeel's ability to tank well its moves; this makes Registeel a viable check to your Mewtwo-Mega-Y, as long as it isn't running Contrary. an mmy walled by no ability regi is no mmy. registeel is one of the most common guys in bh so i'd argue against using it to imposter proof (except in cases where opposing regi would get 2hkod due to specs/judgment, but even then your own regi would be forced to recover and you'd lose momentum). regen vest is the better imposter proofer because you can hit harder with your attacker while still being imposter proof and you can get momentum because you don't need to heal regi
  • Audino-Mega is another great partner as Registeel is immune to Poison and resists Steel, the only types Audino-Mega is weak to. what does audino do for registeel?
  • Because many options are blocked by Dark typing alone, Diancie-Mega is a fantastic offensive partner since it checks all the Dark types in the meta. idk man i don't disagree with this part but the problem i see is diancie needing to switch in. it's even more worrying considering regi is supposed to be your answer to these guys
  • scarf imposter uses u turn really well

- Core Enforcer
- U-turn
- Rapid Spin / Knock Off
- Metal Burst
nuzzle is good because quadpara, spectral thief and circle throw punish setup (and help vs setup ph xern). these should be slashed in third slot or maybe alongside metal burst. why are you slashing rapid spin alongside the one move that can threaten gengar

Moves
  • Core Enforcer is a great move that shuts down the ability of the opponent if it acted before you. Poison Heal and -ate are usually forced out immediately.
  • U-turn keeps the momentum on your side and will heal Registeel for a third of its HP once used.
  • Rapid Spin removes the hazard on your field while leaving the ones on the other side where they are. ghosts can block but ph giratina can be forced out
  • Knock Off removes the item of the opponent, such as Eviolite from Chansey, Spooky Plate from Gengar-Mega and Choice items. note that this allows imposter on balance teams to force you out by threatening to knock off av
  • Metal Burst punish hitters that try to OHKO Registeel with SE coverage: for example Sheer Force Life Orb Mewtwo-Mega-Y using Blue Flare has a 56% chance of being OHKOed back without any prior damage.
Set Details
  • An Assault Vest is used to take much better many special attacks like Boomburst.
  • Minimum speed is used to provide a safe U-turn to any teammate; it also increases the effectiveness of Core Enforcer as its powerful effect only applies if the opponent has acted before Registeel.
  • A Relaxed Nature is used to sightly increase physical bulk, as the Assault Vest already covers the special side of Registeel's defenses.
  • Regenerator allows Registeel to keep itself healthy even if it cannot run non-attacking moves. also you can heal without wasting a turn which is v nice
Usage Tips
  • Assault Vest Registeel has a very easy time switching in special attacks like -ate Rayquaza-Mega due to its bulk. He can then shutdown most -ate due to Core Enforcer or remove its item with Knock Off.
  • When you predict a switch you may use U-turn to keep momentum on your side and heal Registeel for 1/3 of its maximum health.
  • Because Registeel's healthiness depends solely on switching out, try to switch it in even on passive opponents.
  • Try to avoid taking too much Core Enforcers, as while you are pretty much guaranteed to take next to no harm, they'll remove your only chance of healing.
  • Keep Registeel away from V-create, as it takes very large chunks of damage from it. On the other hand it is handy to know that Diancie-Mega running V-create for coverage never OHKOes this set unless it is running a +Atk Nature and an Expert Belt or Life Orb, which usually doesn't.
  • Should you be forced to face V-create but you know you can survive it, Metal Burst often OHKOes back the attacker. this seems very unreliable. you know they have v create but they don't know you have metal burst? you have to live a v create? u turn seems like a better play in that situation
Team Options
  • A dedicated physical wall is appreciated since this Registeel cannot tank very well physical hits. Giratina and Zygarde are great examples, but unorthodox walls like Fur Coat Audino-Mega works well too.
  • Many special attackers like Tinted Lens Mewtwo-Mega-Y, Psychic Surge Mewtwo-Mega-Y and general -ate finds themselves walled when not carrying anything specific for Assault Vest Registeel: this makes the latter a great check to their imposter. lens mmy is bad and carries psystrike (or should) anyway which 2hkos.
  • Because of its increased special bulk, you may elect to run fire coverage in Overheat on said offensive threats, as Registeel won't mind it when not boosted by Choice Specs. why overheat over blue flare

[Magic Bounce]

Registeel @ Leftovers / Rocky Helmet
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Defog / Rapid Spin
- Shore Up
- Knock Off
- Parting Shot / U-turn / Core Enforcer
worry seed beats ph, i'd argue that it's almost mandatory because ph regi is big and ph fairies lose too

Moves
  • Defog removes hazards should not they be deflected by Registeel.
  • Rapid Spin is blocked by Ghost types but can pp stall entry hazards. registeel blocks hazards anyway (unless mold breaker but even then you can wear down the mold breaker mon with knock off) and it gives you an unnecessary giratina vulnerability. if anything i'd say its only niche is on hazard stacking teams (esp with toxic spikes)
  • Shore Up keeps Registeel alive during the match.
  • Knock Off removes useful items as Eviolite or plates.
  • Parting Shot grabs momentum and doesn't allow the imposter to switch in as it will be immediately forced out, possibly racking up entry hazard damage.
  • U-turn cannot fail and isn't blocked by anything.
  • Core Enforcer is another tool that Registeel can use to annoy the opposing Pokemon.
Set Details
  • Magic Bounce allows Registeel to bounce back many utility moves the opponent might use, such as Stealth Rock.
  • Because Spore is reflected, this Registeel can freely run items not being Safety Googles, such as Leftovers for increased longevity or Rocky Helmet for punishing U-turn.
  • Minimum speed investment increase Core Enforcer efficiency and makes pivoting more rewarding.
  • A Relaxed nature can be used if the player decide to wall a bit better physical moves. what are these physical moves against which relaxed actually makes a difference
Usage Tips
  • This Registeel set rewards more an aggressive play style as correct predictions may win entire matches, such as reflecting entry hazards back to teams employing Shedinja. if you can automatically beat a shed team by switching registeel in on a predicted hazard, your opponent is probably doing something wrong. it can be advantageous for you but not game winning
  • It can steal momentum by reflecting Parting Shot back to the user, forcing them in for another round while you can send in whatever you like.
  • Additionally it can steal Strenght Sap recovery, negating the opponent a much needed recovery.
  • Because of Magic Bounce, this Registeel has no trouble in switching into normalize Gengar-Mega as Entrainment will be reflected and its item will be removed. judgment hurts kinda so you need to keep regi healthy
Team Options
  • Although this set is very effective at keeping hazards out of the field, additional help is appreciated as this Registeel isn't particularly good at keeping itself healthy while it deals with hazard setters. what is this additional help? who are these hazard setters?
  • Poison Heal Fairies totally negate Registeel utility role and they can offensively check Registeel imposters; it shouldn't be underestimated as the imposter truly has a massive bulk to show off.
They are generally sub-optimal, but they may be necessary to check or wall a specific threat, be it from the opponent or an impostored teammate. ff regi is good and i think it should be its own set (roost/wisp or worry seed or something/defog maybe/u turn). it's like ff celesteela but bulkier, slower, and with a slightly worse typing
  • Registeel can run a large number of utility moves to surprise the opponent, but they are usually viable only on the RegenVest Pivot set due to having more room to moves. put them in the regen vest set move options then
  • Spectral Thief punish set up as it steals all and only the boost of the opponent; it will also bypass Substitute; this move is particularly useful when running Unaware. unaware registeel? i was unaware of this set until you mentioned it
  • Nature's Madness cuts in half the HP of the opponent no matter how bulky it is.
  • Nuzzle paralyzes the opponent unless it already suffers from another condition or is a Ground type. or electric, also why is (quad)para valuable
  • Poison Fang is the only viable attacking option unaffected by Magic Bounce that can badly poison the opponent.
  • Beak Blast punish contact moves users by burning them.
  • Sacred Fire has a quite high chance of burning the opponent.
  • Sunsteel Strike OHKOes Diancie-Mega and Shedinja.
  • Anchor Shot together with Core Enforcer removes Poison Heal users if they lack pivoting moves. they look cool but why would i use any of these moves over the given set
  • Taunt neutralizes the opponent opportunities to heal, remove hazards with Defog or setup.
  • Baton Pass may give to a teammate some stat boost should they somehow be gained by Registeel, for example when running Spectral thief.
  • If you are afraid of Imprison Shore Up, you might use one of the many recovery options not boosted by weather.
  • Gastro Acid doesn't do damage, but can still remove the ability of Fairy types such as Audino-Mega or Xerneas. It can be reflected by Magic Bounce however. worry seed shows the ability so it's better unless you have spore
  • Entry hazards such as Stealth Rock or Toxic Spikes can weaken the opponent's team for your teammates. that's cool but what set would i run that on? prankster needs its moves, regen vest can't run it obv and magic bounce is at huge risk of imposter.
It must be careful with the Prankster variant as it can bring it down with Destiny Bond, and when running Parting Shot it is untouchable as it will leave the field before it is hit. also you can't nuzzle it or knock it off. aren't there better examples than red orb don tho? (chomp springs to mind)
That said, Normalize Gengar is defeated by Magic Bounce Registeel as it cannot be the target of Entrainment. prankster sets can spam haze, sacrificing themselves but not allowing gengar to ko while set up
  • Imposter: Registeel and its imposter cannot usually touch each other, but because of imposter Registeel can be either PP stalled or be abused to heal health lost to other threats. idk man this doesn't seem all that bad a matchup tbh. for the most part imposter can't scratch regi and if they run scarf it's basically free momentum (if you're running stall you should have ways to handle imposter)
  • Trick: Some Choice item users, such as Specs -ate Rayquaza-Mega, may permanently trouble Registeel. Prankster sets carrying Encore can raraly recover from this condition by immediately forcing the opponent to use again Trick, when they don't switch out.
  • contrary is a big one because not only do they love their steel smackers (v create, superpower, overheat) but you can't just haze em and call it a day either. encore/destiny bond is all registeel can do pretty much

ElMustacho
  • Registeel is a Pokemon of great defensive utility given its incredible 80/150/150 bulk and Steel typing.
  • Its bulk allows it to take many hits from threats such as -ate Diancie-Mega, -ate Rayquaza-Mega, Triage Rayquaza-Mega and many other threats. (dont specify -ate, just say Mega Diancie and Mega Rayquaza)
  • Its passiveness is also a disappointing reality, as it is usually incapable of scaring or KOing the Pokemons it is supposed to wall or check. (scaring < pressuring)
  • All in all, Registeel is one of the best walls in the meta and when played carefully it will keep your team together by taking many powerful hits. (the term for keeping the team together is 'glue')
Overview

[Prankster]

Registeel @ Leftovers / Safety Googles
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Haze / Topsy-Turvy / Encore
- Destiny Bond
- Shore Up / Strenght Sap
- Parting Shot / U-turn U-turn / Parting Shot

  • Topsy-Turvy inverts stats and usually forces out the opponent since they'll lack any firepower.
  • Encore forces to repeat the same move for a few rounds and it is useful even when the opponent hasn't boosted since it can force to repeat moves that Registeel won't mind, like Oblivion Wing, Fake Out and Spore when carrying Safety Googles. (turns > rounds. also go into detail how this is a useful move to give a team mate a free switch in if it is encored into a specific move)
(you should be more general when describing moves. Also you're too presumptious in stating the opponent will outplay you if they see it. instead, say: Destiny Bond is used to take down an opposing foe, though due to Registeel's value as a defensive Pokemon, it is adviced to use this only when absolutely necessary.)
  • Shore Up keeps Registeel healthy. (surely you can elaborate just a little further here)
  • Strenght Sap is an option to generally heal Registeel more than any other move as its bulk comes mostly from Defence and Special Defence. However Registeel won't be able to heal itself all the times as the move has a target and it will be blocked by immunity to priority or Dark types. Fur Coat Chansey can additionally prevent Registeel from recovering as its Attack is minimal. (strength sap is a poor substitute over reliable recovery)
  • U-turn on the other hand always work, and given Registeel's speed it will make Destiny Bond last for 2 turns. It additionally breaks sashes. (
  • Parting Shot can be used to get out from an opponent switch out while weakening it, but suffers the same fate as Encore and Topsy-Turvy. (this is a lazy way of saying it doesn't work vs dark types, dazzling, etc.)

Set Details

  • Leftovers sightly extends Registeel lifespan.
  • Safety Goggles on the other hand makes it immune to Spore and Hail. (hail isnt relevant)
  • Absolute minimum speed is used to underspeed as many as possible Pokemons for a slow U-turn. (badly worded)
  • Minimum Attack is used, even with U-turn, to reduce the very rare confusion damage and to reduce the health healed by any opponent using Strenght Sap.
  • A Relaxed nature can be used if the player decide to wall a bit better physical moves. (does this nature prevent any relevant OHKOs / 2HKOs from occuring? If not i dont think it needs a mention)

Usage Tips

  • Send Registeel in when an opponent has boosted as Registeel can stop it from sweeping on its tracks. (how can it do this)
  • If the opponent is able to break all of your team, you should attempt to Destiny Bond it to avoid dealing with it later; this will additionally reset momentum.
  • If the opponent when unboosted poses no threat, then neutralize it with Haze, Encore or Topsy-Turvy and prepare to switch out since the opponent will likely do it too.
  • Heal yourself when the opponent risks to 2HKO you but you aren't at full HP.
  • When you are sure that the opponent has been stopped, switch out to something else to deal with what is left.
  • As tempting as it can seem, don't run Defog on Prankster Registeel: while good on paper, you won't be able to remove hazards in front of Dark Types and anti priority. (these remaining points are just far too obvious to warrant mentioning. instead bring up how thanks to regis bulk and typing its a good blanket check to nearly everything and thanks to prankster its forgiving since you can priority heal up quickly)

Team Options
  • Giratina, especially when running Fur Coat, is a great partner as there aren't many Pokemon that can check break both without running a particular movepool.
  • Mewtwo-Mega-Y likes Registeel's ability to tank well its moves; this makes Registeel a viable check to your Mewtwo-Mega-Y, as long as it isn't running Contrary. this isn't a good reason to use mewtwo
  • Audino-Mega is another great partner as Registeel is immune to Poison and resists Steel, the only types Audino-Mega is weak to.
  • Because many options are blocked by Dark typing alone prankster moves are blocked by Dark types, Diancie-Mega is a fantastic offensive partner since it checks all the Dark types in the meta.
[RegenVest Pivot]

Registeel @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Core Enforcer
- U-turn
- Rapid Spin / Knock Off
- Metal Burst

slightly stronger knock offs aren't worth giving a lot bigger strength sap heals to the opponent

Moves
  • Core Enforcer is a great move that shuts down the ability of the opponent if it acted before you. Poison Heal and -ate Pokemon are usually forced out immediately. (mention how since regi is so slow it normally will always deactivate the opponents ability)
  • U-turn keeps the momentum on your side and will heal Registeel for a third of its HP once used. (uturn isnt responsible for healing the opponent, switching out is.)
  • Rapid Spin removes the hazard on your field while leaving the ones on the other side where they are. (this really didnt need clarifying)
  • Knock Off removes the item of the opponent, such as Eviolite from Chansey, Spooky Plate from Gengar-Mega and Choice items. (specific examples arent necessary here, there's no point)
  • Minimum speed is used to provide a safe U-turn to any teammate; it also increases the effectiveness of Core Enforcer as its powerful side effect only applies if the opponent has acted before Registeel.
  • A Relaxed Nature is used to sightly increase physical bulk, as the Assault Vest already covers the special side of Registeel's defenses. (does this nature prevent any relevant OHKOs / 2HKOs from occuring? If not i dont think it needs a mention)
  • Regenerator allows Registeel to keep itself healthy even if it cannot run non-attacking moves.
Usage Tips
  • Assault Vest Registeel has a very easy time switching in special attacks like -ate Rayquaza-Mega due to its bulk.
  • Try to avoid taking too much switching into Core Enforcer, as while you are pretty much guaranteed to take next to no harm, they'll remove your only chance of healing.
  • Keep Registeel away from V-create, as it takes very large chunks of damage from it. (doesnt require stating) On the other hand it is handy to know that Diancie-Mega running V-create for coverage never OHKOes this set unless it is running a +Atk Nature and an Expert Belt or Life Orb, which usually doesn't.
  • Should you be forced to face V-create but you know you can survive it, Metal Burst often OHKOes back the attacker. (doesnt require stating)

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Defog / Rapid Spin
- Shore Up
- Knock Off Entrainment / Core Enforcer (ability removal > knock)
- Parting Shot / U-turn / Core Enforcer U-turn / Parting Shot

Moves
  • Defog removes hazards should not they be deflected by Registeel.
  • Rapid Spin is blocked by Ghost types but can pp stall entry hazards. Has more PP than every entry hazard move.
  • Shore Up keeps Registeel alive during the match.
  • Knock Off removes useful items as Eviolite or plates.
  • describe entrainment here
  • Core Enforcer is another tool that Registeel can use to annoy the opposing Pokemon. (give a better reason)
  • Parting Shot grabs momentum and doesn't allow the imposter to switch in as it will be immediately forced out, possibly racking up entry hazard damage.
  • U-turn cannot fail and isn't blocked by anything. (but what does it do? why should it be used?)
Set Details
  • Magic Bounce allows Registeel to bounce back many utility moves the opponent might use, such as Stealth Rock.
  • Because Spore is reflected, this Registeel can freely run items not being other than Safety Googles, such as Leftovers for increased longevity or Rocky Helmet for punishing U-turn.
  • Minimum speed investment increase Core Enforcer efficiency (how?) and makes pivoting more rewarding. (how?)
  • A Relaxed nature can be used if the player decide to wall a bit better physical moves. (again, how could this be worth it)
Usage Tips
  • This Registeel set rewards more an aggressive play style as correct predictions may win entire matches, such as reflecting entry hazards back to teams employing Shedinja.
  • It can steal momentum by reflecting Parting Shot back to the user, forcing them in for another round while you can send in whatever you like.
  • Additionally it can steal reflect Strenght Sap recovery, negating the opponent a much needed recovery. "much needed" is presumptious
  • Because of Magic Bounce, this Registeel has no trouble in switching into normalize Gengar-Mega as Entrainment will be reflected and its item will be removed.
Team Options
  • Although this set is very effective at keeping hazards out of the field, additional help is appreciated as this Registeel isn't particularly good at keeping itself healthy while it deals with hazard setters. (how isn't it? i dont think this is that true. a better reason is that it can't prevent hazards from being set by itself (eg offensive rockers, mold breaker))
  • Poison Heal Fairies totally negate Registeel utility role and they can offensively check Registeel imposters; it shouldn't be underestimated as the imposter truly has a massive bulk to show off. (i honestly cant understand this, reword it)
Other Options
  • Nature's Madness cuts in half the HP of the opponent no matter how bulky it is. its far too passive and far too slow to take advantage of this
  • Nuzzle paralyzes the opponent unless it already suffers from another condition or is a Ground type.
  • Poison Fang is the only viable attacking option unaffected by Magic Bounce that can badly poison the opponent.
  • Beak Blast punish contact moves users by burning them.
  • Sacred Fire has a quite high chance of burning the opponent. better options
  • Sunsteel Strike OHKOes Diancie-Mega and Shedinja. better options
  • Anchor Shot together with Core Enforcer removes Poison Heal users if they lack pivoting moves.
  • Taunt neutralizes the opponent opportunities to heal, remove hazards with Defog or setup.
  • Baton Pass may give to a teammate some stat boost should they somehow be gained by Registeel, for example when running Spectral thief. not worth it

  • If you are afraid of Imprison Shore Up, you might use one of the many recovery options not boosted by weather. not relevant
  • Gastro Acid doesn't do damage, but can still remove the ability of Fairy types such as Audino-Mega or Xerneas. It can be reflected by Magic Bounce however. already mentioned
That said, Normalize Gengar is defeated by Magic Bounce Registeel as it cannot be the target of Entrainment.
Prankster sets carrying Encore can raraly recover from this condition by immediately forcing the opponent to use again Trick, when they don't switch out.
Implement this properly and i'll approve

  • Baton Pass may give to a teammate some stat boost should they somehow be gained by Registeel, for example when running Spectral thief. not worth it

  • If you are afraid of Imprison Shore Up, you might use one of the many recovery options not boosted by weather. not relevant
  • Gastro Acid doesn't do damage, but can still remove the ability of Fairy types such as Audino-Mega or Xerneas. It can be reflected by Magic Bounce however. already mentioned
That said, Normalize Gengar is defeated by Magic Bounce Registeel as it cannot be the target of Entrainment.
Prankster sets carrying Encore can raraly recover from this condition by immediately forcing the opponent to use again Trick, when they don't switch out.
Implement this properly and i'll approve
ScarfWynaut done.

few things:

252 Atk Diancie-Mega V-create vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Registeel: 272-320 (74.7 - 87.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Rayquaza-Mega V-create vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Registeel: 296-350 (81.3 - 96.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

it lives even without Relaxed :/

Max attack but 0 Atk IVs :/

This line is still in :/

this set has max attack :/ also under this set's moves section, not in the actual set itself, make sure to bring up knock off as a means of damaging and removing normalize gengar's item. this allows the set to act as a much better check to it, but its only recommended if the team really struggles with this mon.

hasnt been changed :/

merge this bullet point with the one below it

other than that good stuff QC 1/3

Most of the stuff that hasn't been changed had been changed a few minutes later due to me discovering that a few CTRL-V deleted some edits.
I'll double check shortly anyway.
For Diancie and Ray with V-create, an Expert Belt changes those calcs significantly.

252 Atk Expert Belt Diancie-Mega V-create vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Registeel: 326-384 (89.5 - 105.4%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Expert Belt Rayquaza-Mega V-create vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Registeel: 355-420 (97.5 - 115.3%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

Meanwhile relaxed Registeel

252 Atk Expert Belt Diancie-Mega V-create vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Registeel: 298-350 (81.8 - 96.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Expert Belt Rayquaza-Mega V-create vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Registeel: 326-384 (89.5 - 105.4%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO

The chance of a expert belt may justify a relaxed nature.

you need to specify that it can live diancie / ray vcreates with a boosting item (same deal with the much more common life orb), not just 'a v-create' since that implies at +0 with no boosts

I'm specifying this everywhere right now.

EDIT done.

Banned deucer.
IMO Haze + Topsy-Turvy over dbond is an option for stall teams where you don't want to be trading one mon for another
Stall teams won't be using setup 'mons in the first place, and even aginst offensive teams, this sounds like very redundant option. Registeel is already strapped of movesets and can't afford to forgo pivoting move / setup deterrent / and obviously, recovery.

I meant forgoing Destiny Bond is an option for stall teams to use, not to fight stall teams. I should have phrased that better.
