The god team
Mega Beedrill doesn’t see too much usage in OU, but it’s always been my favorite mega. I do play some UU, but my main tier is OU and I have always wanted to use Beedrill in this tier. I made this team with a little help from Ske and I think it’s worth an RMT. This team peaked at 1700s and then I kind of just stopped laddering. I ended up quitting laddering after ruining my ELO with shitty meme teams and untiered Pokemòn, but this team was the one I used to reach that high, so let’s start
THE TEAM:
lou lo duca (Beedrill-Mega) (M) @ Beedrillite
Ability: Swarm
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Drill Run
- Poison Jab
- Knock Off
Beedrill is what I built this team around. When I think of Beedrill, I think of U-Turn, when I think of U-Turn, I think of Volt-Turn, so that’s what the team will be. Beedrill is so incredibly powerful with Adaptability, it doesn’t even need Swords Dance to boost it. It can tear apart defensive teams and offense alike, it’s just really, really, really frail. It’s like a hit and run game. You bring it in, OHKO something, and whatever you can’t deal with, just switch into Specs Hydreigon or Band Bulu. This thing actually hits EXTREMELY hard, so here are some fun calcs:
skillmaster (Jirachi) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 196 Atk / 60 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Moonblast
- Iron Head
- Trick
Jirachi is my choice scarf Pokemòn, and it has U-Turn AND flinch hax, so it’s pretty good. Looking at this set, it may seem odd, because I have.. Moonblast? With a jolly nature! Well, it’s for Hawlucha. I ran some defense investment to deal with the wrestle birb a little better, and Moonblast to kill it. It’s kind of like Lando-T with HP Ice, they still run jolly, because what they’re trying to hit still gets 2HKOed, so theres really no need for any investment or a naive/hasty nature cutting into their bulk. Some may say Play Rough is better, but I prefer weakening special threats like Alakazam or Magearna. It’s able to come in on things like Reuniclus, AV Magearna, or Mega Scizor and get free momentum. It’s also a pretty fun Pokemòn, because I love outskilling ALLL over my opponents.
ghidorable (Hydreigon) (M) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 244 SpA / 32 SpD / 232 Spe
Timid Nature
- U-turn
- Dark Pulse
- Draco Meteor
- Flash Cannon
Hydreigon hits hard. I especially love specs Hydra because it can use Draco Meteor and get a free K.O. on whatever (not a fairy or a steel type tho). It has Flash Cannon for fairies, and as long as it predicts correctly, that Clefable won’t be such a threat anymore, and it can always just U-Turn on steels. 32 SpDef EVS let it wall non-Ice Beam A-Gren and let it tank special hits a little better, aswell.
cow hammer (Tapu Bulu) @ Choice Band
Ability: Grassy Surge
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 108 HP / 252 Atk / 148 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Wood Hammer
- Horn Leech
- Superpower
- Stone Edge
Volt-Turn teams often carry a very powerful pokemon that hits very hard, and in this team, I thought Tapu Bulu was great on this team. Choice band Wood Hammer is a really powerful attack and it has good coverage with StoneMiss Edge and Superpower and recovery with Horn Leech. 148 Speed EVs allow it to outspeed 56 Speed invested Rotom-Wash and prevent it from Volt-Switching on it. Banded Tapu Bulu was suggested to me by Ske so I could have a nice, hard hitting, Pokemòn to break walls.
talonlame (Rotom-Wash) @ Wiki Berry
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 200 SpD / 56 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Defog
- Hydro Pump
- Thunder Wave
Rotom-W is always a nice pivot and Volt-Turn team member. I decided to run SpDef Rotom-W to deal with Ash-Greninja, and my team isn’t rain weak so SpDef is better on this specific build. It’s also one of my defoggers alongside Zapdos, because theres gonna be a lot of switching and Beedrill doesn’t wan’t to take 25% every time it switches in. Rotom can T-Wave Hawlucha so my ScarfRachi can revenge it with a Moonblast. I think Rotom is a hugely important member on this team.
butter knife (Zapdos) @ Leftovers
Ability: Static
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Defog
- Roost
- Discharge
Zapdos is my second Volt Switch user and my second Defog user. It’s really crucial to the team for being able to counter some things like Scarf/Band Kartana, or Tapu Fini. I can even sack it to Hawlucha and hope for a static hax. Zapdos was the final mon I added but it’s definitely as good as the others. No Heat Wave definitely hurts it, though.
THREATS TO THE TEAM:
Giga Impact Kartana can SD up, break through my Zapdos, and sweep.
Hawlucha can set up SD and kill my entire team
Scarf Lele can destroy the team with good prediction
Thank you for reading :)
