Project BDSP OverUsed - Victim Of The Week - Week 6 (Scizor)

Sap sipper Azu beacuse it just stop breloom completely. A bit hard to fit in a team compared to my other vote Tangrowth which in this meta is a great mon.

Tangrowth does the job absolutely perfectly and checks a lot of other mons it fits anywhere (avid reader for a long time, but first time posting)

Time's up!

Let's analyze our submissions and see what we can learn from it
  • Fellow Grass-types that can take Breloom's fighting moves do very good vs. it, this includes Tangrowth, Shaymin and although not mentioned, it also includes Roserade.
  • Psychic-type Pokemon, mostly the lati twins, are an excellent check to Breloom especially with Sleep Talk, they are essentially a hardcounter.
  • Flying-types, although not quite mentioned, do very well vs Breloom being able to resist its dual stabs. This includes Dragonite and Togekiss.
  • Fire-Types can check Breloom and turn it into free momentum, this is especially relevant in the case of Infernape.
  • Whenever it comes to it, analyze your match up and spot the Pokemon you need the least and use it as sleep fodder, this makes Breloom a lot easier to deal with.

Winner(s):

I'd as always would love to thank everyone that participated, seems that we got more submissions this time around!
I wanna keep it brief, so I'll be announcing our winners this week!

:bw/tangrowth: :bw/azumarill:
Tangrowth by ATowerFalledXD and Sap Sipper Azumarill by xyue
They each won with 3 votes, congrats!

We'll be posting our next victim today very soon! Stay tuned and thank you for participating.

Hey, does anyone else feel that? I think there's an earthquake heading our way!

:bw/garchomp:

Garchomp @ Life Orb
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Fire Blast
- Swords Dance

Cynthia's ace and the reason many twelve year-olds blacked out during the final fight in DPP. Being notoriously important and threatening in every meta it's participated in, Garchomp has established itself as a very powerful Pokemon that utilizes its bulk and power to force kills on the enemy team. So we ask, how do you check this threat?
(PS: You just need to check it, not every Pokemon has consistent counters!)

Refer to the rules before posting submissions, you have till friday for the submissions phase, best of luck and happy posting!

:bw/latios:
Latios (M) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sleep Talk/Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam/Surf
- Draco Meteor
- Psychic

Simple Specs Latios. Sleep Talk for Breloom's Spore. Ice Beam to hit the dragons harder along with Gliscor, Mamoswine, Shaymin, and Togekiss. Draco Meteor is STAB, and Psychic is too. Thunderbolt is for Scizor and waters, and Surf is for stuff like Heatran.

Offensive Calcs
252 SpA Choice Specs Latios Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Garchomp: 748-884 (209.5 - 247.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Latios Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Garchomp: 812-956 (227.4 - 267.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
You get OHKO'd by Outrage-just don't switch it in like nothing.

Weavile @ Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
-Icicle Crash
-Ice Shard
-Assurance/Throat Chop
-Brick Break/Poison Jab

Weavile is a tried and true offensive check to Garchomp, primarily as a revenge killer that just so happens to be up there with Garchomp as a top-tier threat in the metagame. Icicle Crash is guaranteed to kill Yache Berry variants of Garchomp, Ice Shard lets you beat Scarf Garchomp. Assurance or Throat Chop can work for Dark-Type STAB. Assurance works better when you have hazard support for general purposes while Throat Chop is for more consistent damage output, but both options hit Scizor really hard. Banded Weavile also will force Garchomp out and can punish any switch-in for the most part since Choice Band hits incredibly hard. Basically from a strictly offensive standpoint, Weavile can easily 1v1 Garchomp and has either Icicle Crash or Ice Shard to keep any Garchomp Variant in check, the only thing the player will want to scout out is if the Garchomp is scarfed or not. Brick Break is mostly to keep Lucario from freely coming in while Poison Jab is to hit Azumarill on the switch pretty hard. The last move slot is just a matter of team composition and what you need.

Side Note: Life Orb sets can also work for Weavile if you do not like the idea of being locked into a move as it can still pack a punch.

Option 1
Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
-Slack Off
-Ice Beam
-Scald
-Psychic / Flamethrower / Future Sight

Option 2
Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 180 Def / 72 SpA
Bold Nature
-Slack Off
-Ice Beam
-Scald
-Psychic / Flamethrower / Future Sight

Slowbro is a solid Physical Wall and can also soft wall Garchomp. The Bro can always switch in a +0 Chomp and check it even if he attacks or set-up.
Option 1 for full utility in a team and Option 2, built in order to check the Shark and OHKO.

Calcs:
Option 1:
+2 252 Atk Garchomp Outrage vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 264-312 (67 - 79.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Garchomp Outrage vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 133-157 (33.7 - 39.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
0 SpA Slowbro Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 4- SpD Garchomp: 328-388 (91.8 - 108.6%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

Option 2:
+2 252 Atk Garchomp Outrage vs. 252 HP / 180+ Def Slowbro: 280-330 (71 - 83.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Garchomp Outrage vs. 252 HP / 180+ Def Slowbro: 141-166 (35.7 - 42.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
72 SpA Slowbro Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 4- SpD Garchomp: 356-420 (99.7 - 117.6%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

I want to apologize for the delay but here is the unexpected, airborne, :togekiss: Boeing 737-Togekiss.

:ss/togekiss:
Togekiss @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Air Slash
- Roost
- Thunder Wave/Nasty Plot
- Flamethrower/Nasty Plot/Defog

To be fair, the set is just a sample for the sake of showcasing a set. Togekiss is by nature a counter to Garchomp as its double type offers an immunity to every Garchomp's stab moves.

0 SpA Life Orb Garchomp Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Togekiss: 77-91 (20.5 - 24.3%) -- 3.6% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Togekiss Air Slash vs. 0 HP / 4- SpD Garchomp: 120-142 (33.6 - 39.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Togekiss comes with a good special defence that soaks up anything that isn't Stone Edge from Garchomp. So there's not much to add other than that other sets are viable if you have Garchomp in mind, but this one should be the most common and versatile.

Time's up! Brief post this time because it's almost 12 am & I need some sleep.
Let's have a look at the submissions, the voting phase will start now and will last until Monday.
One vote for your favorite mon refer to rules by posting you know the drill.

See you then!

Time's up!

Let's analyze our submissions and see what we can learn from it
  • Fairy-types, namely Togekiss and Clefable, do very well vs Garchomp as they take its moves reasonably well and threaten to hit it back for a lot of damage while staying healthy with Roost and Wish Protect respectively.
  • Ice-types and Ice-type moves are and always will be an excellent way of checking Garchomp. Whether it's Ice beam from a Slowbro, Ice shard from a Mamoswine of an Icicle crash from a Weavile, Ice-type moves make Garchomp think twice about setting up and trying to muscle through your team.
  • Bulky Water-types, not just the ones with ice beam like Slowbro and Milotic but also Will-O-Wisp Rotom-Wash present very decent checks as they act as a stopgap to prevent Garchomp from breaking through your team.
  • Faster Dragon-types like the Lati twins and Choice Scarf Salamence present excellent checks being able to revenge kill Garchomp comfortably and even pivoting on its earthquake if you need them to, watch out for the Outrage though!

Winner(s):

I'd as always would love to thank everyone that participated, seems that we got more submissions this time around!
I wanna keep it brief, so I'll be announcing our winners this week!

They each dominated this week 4 votes, congrats!
(As always, I'll post the next week's suspect soon.)

Did you know that there's a scientific way of relatively measuring how painful a bug's sting is? And did you also know that anyone would rather be stung by an actual Bullet Ant than being hit by this fierce Pokemon's Bullet Punch? Yep! This week, we have none other than...

:bw/scizor:
Scizor @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Brick Break
- Quick Attack
- Swords Dance

Since BDSP's debut, Scizor has been established as an excellent defensive Pokemon with its Specially Defensive set. And while that's mostly what it runs, that doesn't mean that you can underestimate its offensive presence. Rocking a terrifying base 130 attack with a priority Technician-boosted Bullet Punch, Scizor established itself as a solid Steel-type offensive Pokemon too! Being able to clean up most of the metagame with its dual priority moves. How do would you check this beast? Let us know!
The submission phase will last 5 days, refer to the rules before submitting. Happy posting!

Lalaya

Banned deucer.
:dp/Milotic: @ :Leftovers:
Ability: Marvel Scale
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Haze
- Recover

Pretty straightforward, you're a bulky water that can Haze away Scizor's boosts while it setups on your switch-in, and not even a +2 Brick Break can save him from the horrible fate you're going to present to it, especially if you just Scaldburn it or even just wait for it to defeat itself since Life Orb isn't free...

+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Scizor Brick Break vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Milotic: 196-231 (49.8 - 58.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery (Recover + Leftovers recover 56, so you're perfectly safe)

0 SpA Milotic Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Scizor: 103-123 (36.6 - 43.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO (2HKO since Scizor gets its life chipped with Life Orb)

Quagsire @ Leftovers
Relaxed Nature
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Recover
- Toxic

Fairly obvious, you eat up all hits, heal up with Recover, try to burn it with Scald, and try to KO it with EQ. Toxic is for stalling out other 'mons.

0 SpA Quagsire Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Scizor: 73-87 (25.9 - 30.9%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
0 Atk Quagsire Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Scizor: 94-112 (33.4 - 39.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

And Scizor can't really do anything to you.

252+ Atk Life Orb Technician Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Unaware Quagsire: 56-66 (14.2 - 16.7%) -- possible 9HKO after Leftovers
252+ Atk Life Orb Technician Scizor Quick Attack vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Unaware Quagsire: 75-90 (19 - 22.8%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers
252+ Atk Life Orb Scizor Brick Break vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Unaware Quagsire: 95-112 (24.1 - 28.4%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers

arcanine.gif

Arcanine @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Morning Sun
- Flamethrower
- Sleep Talk/Crunch

Arcanine is a counter to Scizor. Intimidate allows Arcanine to switch into Scizor uncontested and OHKO with Flamethrower. In most scenarios though is it better to Will-O-Wisp and spread status, as the opponent will most likely switch out. WIth Arcanine, Scizor should never break past +1 Attack because Arcanine should always switch into Scizor when it's on the field. I opted to use Flamethrower over Flare Blitz due to unwanted recoil damage from the opponent switching out. Sleep Talk is for Breloom, whereas Crunch is for Starmie and Latios switch-ins.

+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Technician Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Arcanine: 87-103 (22.7 - 26.8%) -- 99.4% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Scizor Brick Break vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Arcanine: 147-173 (38.3 - 45.1%) -- 75.8% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Technician Scizor Quick Attack vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Arcanine: 117-138 (30.5 - 36%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Arcanine Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Scizor: 468-552 (166.5 - 196.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Well, for the second time I am bringing my Bro

1649143251601.png

Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Slack Off
- Future Sight
- Scald
- Flamethrower

With the proposed set, Scizor can't do anything to the Brother:

+6 252+ Atk Life Orb Technician Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 187-222 (47.4 - 56.3%) -- 29.7% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+6 252+ Atk Life Orb Scizor Brick Break vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 157-185 (39.8 - 46.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+6 252+ Atk Life Orb Technician Scizor Quick Attack vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 251-296 (63.7 - 75.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

And packing FThrower send Zor to the sky:

4 SpA Slowbro Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Scizor: 316-372 (112.4 - 132.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
