Teams

Rinkah was the first Pokémon to join Silver's team after leaving his hometown. She comes from a very traditional family and has a strict sense of honour, which is why she aims to travel the world in search of combat that will bring glory for herself and for her House. Rinkah is typically stern and calm; however, combat is her greatest release. In the midst of battle, she usually drops her serious demeanor and becomes much more relaxed, mainly because she can rarely keep herself from laughing in the heat of battle. All the guts, all the glory is her favorite phrase, and it kinda makes her wish she had Guts. Peanut butter on toast is her favorite food.

Belladonna is the first--and so far only--Pokémon that Silver has caught. Silver only did this because Belladonna was scaring Zelda, and he thought that if he caught the Ghost Pokémon she would stop staring. Belladonna's red-eyed stared remains, however, as does Zelda's apprehension for her teammate. The fact that it took an inordinately long time for Belladonna to speak her first words did nothing to soothe Zelda's nerves, although her lack of words could be explained by the fact that the small Nohface didn't have a face at the time.

After evolution, however, Belladonna did grow a face--five of them, to be precise. And just as Silver had hoped, the addition of faces has allowed Belladonna to speak in a voice that others can hear. Three voices, in fact, since it seems that the faces can communicate independently of each other. Belladonna's regular voice seems to come from her front face, while the heads above her shoulders seem to communicate in whispers. The faces above her hind legs appear to be reserved for blood-curdling screams and terrifying howls, but also for some foreign languages, like German.

Zelda still wishes B would stop staring at her.

Trace
When entering into battle, this Pokemon can copy an ability on one of its opponents for 6 EN. This effect only triggers if the ability to be copied is specified when the Pokemon is sent out. When facing a pokemon with Trace, the Player sending out last must send out the pokemon without orders, in order to give the opponent the opportunity to trigger trace and any orders eventually given will be ignored until given the opportunity for trace to be triggered. The ability remains on the Pokemon for six (6) actions

Telepathy
This Pokemon has a mental link with its allies in multiple battles, which allows it to avoid taking damage from allied attacks that damage each foe or the entire field like Blizzard and Earthquake. They are still affected by an opponents spread damage attacks.

Originally rather quiet (I was going to say, quite quiet, but I rather avoid the reference), Rara has learnt over the course of my travels to be a bit more outspoken. Her incredible skills (which includes, but is not limited to, limited mind reading, detecting the presence of Pokemon, and long-range telephathy with Pokemon and humans alike) makes her a valuable member, as well as a good head for battles!

This Pokemon's body reacts to dark energy, invigorating its passions. When hit by a Dark-type move, the Pokémon's Attack will increase one (1) stage (adjusting the natural stage).

Lulu was a hotheaded Pokemon from the moment he hatched, immediately challenging Rara to a battle (and also leaving Tini appalled by his bloodthirstiness). However, with so little experience, it was no wonder he lost to her. After traveling with me for so long, he has changed drastically, becoming less hotheaded and thinking more, his battling skills have improved and he is more willing to learn. He still fights Rara at every opportunity, hoping to increase his prowess!

This Pokemon is more skilled at performing weaker moves, causing any of their one-hit or two-hit attacks that normally have 6 or less Base Attack Power to have their Base Attack Power on each hit multiplied by 1.5. (e.g. Aerial Ace goes from 6 to 9, Mach Punch goes from 4 to 6, Double Hit to from 4 per hit to 6 per hit etc.) The Energy Cost for a one-hit or two-hit attack that has its BAP increased by Technician is increased by one (1). Each hit in a multi-hit move is boosted by one (1) Base Attack Power, and the Energy Cost for multi-hit attacks is increased by two (2). Because Technician is a multiplier on single hit moves, its effect is applied to Base Attack Power before any additive effects. Technician only applies to combos in the rare case that an initial hit will have 6 or less BAP.

Skill Link
This Pokemon's skillful aim makes its multi-hit moves always hit 5 times. The Energy Cost of multi-hit attacks is increased by three (3).

Shino was one of my best Pokemon, due to King’s Rock Skill Link shenanigans. She has travelled far and gone toe-to-toe with many top Pokemon. However, will this transfer to BBP as well? It depends on the rules of multi-hit moves.

See, that's one of the new souls I came across when exploring Galar. A Beldum is rare enough, but a shiny one is just icing on the cake. However, that was only part of the appeal. You see, when we came face to face around an alley (what was she doing here in the first place?), she just... stood there. Not really afraid, just curious. And analytic. Actually, being analytic is one of the core aspects of both her personality and battle style. Her immense brain power allows her to accurately calculate the possibilities of a battle at a given time, thus projecting a bit into the future. However, she still has trouble to account for an opponent's odd behavior, leading to miscalculations.
She also doesn't speak that often. Usually, it's only a few words to give her opinion on the situation at hand. It seems like she's actually afraid to open up to people and mingle with the team. Oh, well. Hopefully that'll get better with time!

Sir Olberic Eisenberg (Berg for short) is a Galar native who decided to accompany us on his quest for revenge against some dark forces. Not sure I like the sound of that, because I've seen enough cosmic destroyers and dimensional shifts for my entire life, but several members of the group instantly agreed to help him so... there we are.
Honestly, he's a good recruit: with so many team members focused on pelting at the opponent, having someone take the front lines and hold them is a key component for battles. And he's good at it, too! Swinging his lance/sword/leek/thing almost seems natural to him, and that shield is pretty effective to block ranged attacks too.
He's also surprisingly popular with the ladies, though I don't think he knows that (or care), to their dismay.

Hi, since Gem brought up something similar, I wanted to take the opportunity to talk a bit about some of what this extremely small sample size could tell us about an ASB meta, at least in this early stage. I find the meta discussion threads the main smogon tiers get pretty interesting, so this is my take on that. This is probs better if we make this into a discussion so if you disagree with me, let it be heard read.

> The first thing that Mowtom 's post makes clear is that Gardevoir continues to live rent-free in a lot of older players' minds. Yes, it has a near-perfect combination of stats, typing and especially movepool for this game, but I suspect part of its centralizing nature comes from the psychological scars on everyone who's been here since Gen 6. I don't think it's an accident that Garde and the best check to Garde in this pre-Megas period are tied for the most picked team members. Three of the mons on the second line are Garde checks as well, so a lot of people seem to have had it in mind either directly or indirectly.
> The other interesting bit from the first line is the current flavor of the day as a Protean mon. It's worth noting that players still have the choice of Frog and Kecleon, which have been consistent picks for years, yet overlooked them completely. In Kecleon's case it took a hit with the Dexiting of Rare Candy, and Frog has the worst defenses of the three. However, Cinderace has the worst coverage and is slower than Frog, which can go mixed easier and has hazards and more reliable priority.

> From the second line, Equilibra is interesting as it can sit on most Fairies, with Bulletproof negating the strongest coverage move many fairies have against it. I don't think Fairy check is a role that will ever go unneeded here, and Equi can also check important stuff like Gengar and shit, so its performance here will be interesting to follow.
> Speaking of, Gengar is very interesting to me right now; personally it's the mon that gave me the most trouble while building. As always it's a strong mon with a big movepool that can be your answer to three of the most important types in Fairy, Psychic and Ghost, but now there's no Everstone Sables to counter it and since we have almost no natures or Megas 110 might now be the second most important speed benchmark after 80. There's extremely little that will outspeed Gengar and reliably beat it.
> AloMuk and Togekiss are two picks that surprised me personally, as they feel a bit old-timey. Muk in particular has lost the new car smell, and even though I prepped for it specifically just in case, I didn't think anyone would actually bring it. From personal experience, it's not bad at all but specifically for a Fairy or Psychic answer I always ended up going back to Drapion, in most matchups ig Muk is better tho.

> Another thing I wanted to comment on were the new mons; Gen 8 didn't give us many of them and most of those are frankly p trash. Of the ones here, three stand out to me: Pult is probably the best Gen 8 mon, with good mixed stats and movepool, and fast Ghosts are always cool. Cursola I hadn't registered until looking at the teams but it looks pretty good; in ASB it can take advantage of its strengths such as its wide coverage and 6/6 Special stats while minimizing its main weakness in cartridge, since it's not getting one-shot by physical attacks here. Copperajah is in a similar boat; natural R6 Attack, 100 HP, wide-ish attacking movepool and Steel typing are always appreciated. Mega Steelix is gone but you can still Heavy Slam the Mime with one of these (or bronzong but shhhh).

Other general things:
- There's a huge variety of fighters. Like, it's one of the most represented types and it's on 3/4 of teams yet no individual mon was picked more than once. There's some cool shit here like Maxim's Machamp and Gem's Bewear, which I feel is massively underrated.
On the other hand, people on discord had been hyping Conk as the next meta threat (not without reason I think) yet there's only one here. Same goes for Snorlax and G-Darm. On fighters tho, having zero Gallades is jarring. Sure, no megas means you lost out on 30 points of Speed, but in this nature-less and mega-less world, base 80 is back to the most important benchmark imo. Also let's not forget it has the same stats as Garde and a bigger movepool. I think the issue with Gallade has always been that it loses to Fairies and stacks a Ghost weakness (not the easiest to cover with no Sables) with a bunch of important stuff.
- Go back and tell your 2016 self that we're kicking off a tournament where no one is using Sableye, Gallade, Greninja or Aurumoth. What a world we live in.

Confirming what was said in the above post, Fighting gets a big lead in terms of numbers. Ghost and Normal, both solid offensive and defensive types, are behind, then an assortment of other types.
At the lower end of the spectrum, we get poor defensive types in Rock, Ice and Bug. Surprisingly, Dark and Fairy are in the middle of the rankings here, despite everyone hyping them up as very good types.
Dragon is of note here, since, while a good defensive typing, it rarely brings anything offensive to the table (SE only on itself), hence why it's less represented than Steel or Water for example.
