"Welcome! It's time to fight your first battle in ASB. Here, you'll be learning about ordering, substitutions, combinations and switch phases. You should also have a solid grasp on the damage formula when we're finished. To start off, you'll send out one of your two Pokemon and equip it with an item. Since this battle is Items = Training, the only items you'll be able to equip are the Lucky Egg, Amulet Coin, or Exp. Share."

Horixon sends out and equips an item.
PTPlatinum sends out, equips and item and orders.
Horixon orders.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot this exists. In the future, please don't hesitate to tag me sooner. Not saying it's your fault though, I definitely should have gotten to this.

"Ahem! Sorry! I was ... in the bathroom! Had some bad Taco Bell...

...anyways, you've already have a couple battles under your belt, so I'm sure you know how to form an orderset. In that case, I'll review some things to remember when ordering. I could just order my strongest move three times, but that would quickly drain me of energy, so often times you'll find the second move switched out for a slightly less damaging move to conserve energy. Substitutions are used to counteract the moves that will mess with your strategy the most. When I looked at the moves of your Dratini, I saw Thunder Wave as a threat, so I wrote a substitution for it. The non-consecutive tag means that if the substitution activated on the previous action, it will not activate on that action. For example, if you use Thunder Wave on action one and action two, I'll protect against it action one but not action two, as protect would fail. Pushing back actions means that if my substitution activates action one, I'll instead use Dragon Breath on action two and Earthquake on action three, effectively 'pushing back' my orders.

Now it's your turn. Remember to review which moves I ordered so you can prepare for what's coming. Ordering second usually puts you at an advantage because you already know what the opponent is going to do."

Jangmo-o:
Dragon Breath ~ Earthquake ~ Dragon Breath
[Non-Consecutive] IF Dratini is to use Thunder Wave, THEN use Protect and push back actions.

"Now it's your turn to order first. Try to identify the most dangerous moves in my moveset and sub against them accordingly. Often, the battler who orders first isn't looking to make any out-of-the-box plays. They're often looking to make a reliable order-set that doesn't leave them vulnerable to the battler who orders second."

Horixon to order.

"While it would certainly hurt to get hit by a Dragon Breath, there is one move in my arsenal that hurts quite a bit more: Counter. When using physical moves, it's important to check for Counter, as what appears to be a winning damage race can quickly be turned against you. The same goes for Mirror Coat when using special attacks and Bide and Metal Coat when using any damaging attacks.

Abilities are also very important to pay attention to, and this round will be a good example why. Jangmo-o has Soundproof, an ability that renders it immune to Supersonic, among other sound-based moves. This essentially gives me a free action to get some damage in."

"Now, lets learn about switch phases. If you are to order first for the next round, and your Pokemon is not trapped by a move like Mean Look or Fire Spin, you can initiate a switch phase. I'm going to switch my Jangmo-o out for my Buneary. You can then do one of two things. You can accept to counterswitch, which means that you'd switch out your Dratini for your Ralts, but you'd then have to order first. You could also decline to counterswitch, which means I order first against Dratini and you'd order second.

If you have any questions about switch phases (or anything else), please feel free to ask."

"These kind of situations happen to the best of us. That critical hit was the difference between me knocking out Dratini or not. Setbacks like this are a part of ASB (I didn't make that crit to teach you a lesson or anything, that's just what the roll ended up as). Using my subs like that to (theoretically) prevent me from getting the KO was a good idea, however.

Be especially careful when facing Buneary with Ralts. Ralts has 0 Defense and Buneary has 4 attack, meaning my physical attacks will sting."

Horixon replaces Dratini and orders.

"Fake Out can only flinch once per send-out in ASB. This means that if Buneary were to use Fake Out this round, Ralts wouldn't flinch, due to it using Fake Out in the last round. If your main intention this round is to burn Buneary, perhaps a substitution for substitute would have helped."
