:lucario: "Terribly sorry to have dragged you into that battle. Annihilape's been screaming and raging like this ever since they evolved. Must be genetic or something. Since I'm their friend, the only time I can enjoy any peace and quiet is after they've been knocked out, haha..."

As a Pokemon trainer, you can relate. After receiving directions from the Lucario, you continue your traveling and leave the Lucario to look after their fainted ally.

---

The farther you walk, the more dense the trees get. Before long you are completely enshadowed by a canopy of frosted pines. It is in this frightful dimness that you suddenly lose your footing and find yourself stumbling, headlong, into a deep pit...

TheEver how will your party respond?

:quagsire: We're falling?
:mawile: Just how dense are you?!?!
:quagsire: Well if my volume is...
:mawile: I'm surprised you can even do math.

:quagsire: That's my final answer.
... just shoot water below us please.
:mawile: You make me so mad ... aaaaaAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!
:mawile-mega: ...
:mawile-mega: Hey neat.

:quagsire: Callit the Quagsire will use Hydro Pump (move) at the bottom of the pit to create a pool to break our fall.
:mawile-mega: Rage the Mawile will Mega Evolve (title), use Vise Grip (move) gently to carry Callit and I in their two mouths, and use Magnet Rise (move) to leave the pit.

Thanks to the pool of water that Callit creates, you land with a splash and not a splat. Rage hoists you back up within one mouth, and Callit in a second identical mouth... say what? Has the shock of the fall left you seeing double? No, what you're seeing is the result of a strange and sudden metamorphosis within Rage, seemingly brought on by a fit of anger. As soon as Rage releases you and Callit safely from their jaws, they immediately revert to their typical form. You find this relieving, but at the same time, a bit disappointing.

No time to catch your breath -- a horde of angry-looking Ghost-Type Pokemon surround you!

:sv/chandelure: "Who dares disturb our burial site?"
:sv/dhelmise: "Jeez, can't a spirit rest a century or two without somebody Hydro Pumping all over their remains?"

Now that your eyes have adjusted to the darkness, you can see that you've stumbled across (and, well, into) a cemetery full of ghosts. Even if it's all a misunderstanding, everything you do from here on out is self-defense, right...?

Battle 2:

[Testing Change]: Trying out a soft timer mechanic. From round eight (8) onwards, after end of Round, if the battle is not yet over: a random Misfortune Effect takes place. Misfortune Effects are always bad for the challenger. Each Misfortune Effect that is drawn increases in severity. The exact list is under construction.

Mode 4: [Hook, Line, and Sunken] When Dhelmise is hit by a super-effective attack (even if they are KO'd): the attacker loses HP equal to 50% of the damage dealt (ignoring Magic Guard). When Dhelmise is hit by a neutral or resisted attack: inflict Patrial Trapping (4s) also called Whirlpool on the attacker. After end of round, if Dhelmise is active, and Dhelmise was not hit that round, and the foe is not KO'd: trigger a Misfortune Effect and accelerate the Round Timer by one (1).

You don't know how long it is before you sense Rage nudging you awake. Groggily, you push yourself up from the cold cement you've been lying on.

A quick scan of your surroundings tells you that you and your Pokemon are inside a tomb. It is a simple stone room, furnished with only a few small urns and a very heavy stone door. After checking yourself for injuries (and to your relief, finding none; must've fainted from fright earlier), you try to push the door open, but it doesn't budge. Shoot.

Seeing as tombs are for corpses, and you are not one yet, you would very much like to leave and be on your way.

TheEver how will your party respond?

:quagsire: Callit the Quagsire will use Shapeshifter (title) to become :clodsire: Clodsire, and assist Rage with Helping Hand (move), by angering Rage even more than usual.

Evidently, the possibility of being stuck in a room with Callit is enough to send Rage into a frenzy. Rage transforms and punches the door into a billion little pieces. You and your party leave the cemetery, shaken but ultimately unharmed.

Success! +2 RPT.

You resume your journey and eventually find the place you were looking for: a small and sturdy research outpost, from which a sloppily-dressed scientist emerges to greet you.
"Hello! You must be Eve, yes? And Callit and Rage? The Pokemon Center messaged me to let me know you three were on your way. They said something about what could be undiagnosed mutations...?"

You describe Rage's and Callit's transformations and symptoms to the researcher.
"Wowee! That sounds so cool! ...(ahem) I mean, I'm sure you find that very concerning. Fortunately, nobody is more passionate about researching Pokemon transformations as I! We'll get to the bottom of this in no time. Say, how would you feel about a Pokemon battle? No better way to become familiar with one's test subjects -- ah, I mean, patients."
