Stanislas Town, a small, sleepy town in the Kalos region nestled in the midst of the snowy cliffs between Dendemille Town and Anistar City. Every year in October they hold a festival celebrating all things spooky. Long ago, it is said that the festival mostly revolved around celebrating the new harvest. But these days, the festival has a softer role, celebrating candy and trick or treating! At least, so long as the ghosts don't come out to ruin everything. But what are the chances of that happening this year?

While the main festivities naturally happen in the midst of the night time, during the last week of October Stanislas Town holds a carnival in the main square, to prep everyone for the trick or treating to happen during the evening. Wanting to enjoy themselves, Lou decides to take a trip to this sleepy town that is most certainly not haunted. To get to Stanislas Town, one has to take a journey off the beaten path of Kalos Route 17, making their way through the snow and ice to a pathway that winds down the side of a sheer cliff in order to get into town proper.

It is here that Lou runs into a crowd of people blocking the road down into the valley. Making their way through the crowd, they meet a panicked construction worker, trying desperately to calm the crowd. Behind them is obvious damage of a mudslide, which seems to have taken out the only real path to Stanislas Town.

"L-Look it's going to take us a couple hours to clear the path everyone. I'm sorry, no, I can't get them to go faster for you ma'am. Sir, I can assure you that there is no such thing as a Harvest King. Of course it's not cursed! Ow, please stop kicking, it won't fix the path any faster."

Well, that can't be good. It looks like the path's been blocked off, and the only way down to the town is straight down a sheer cliff face!


How are you going to get down the cliff to reach the Carnival Lou?

Thanks to :tomohawk:Anpau's Coaching, we should be able to use :tyranitar:Gunhilde's Rock Climb to easily navigate down the cliff.
 
Lou is well prepared for setbacks like this though, as he calmly asks Gunhilde to help him climb down the cliffside. Gunhilde agrees, and with some coaching from Anpau, easily climbs down the mountain with Lou in tow. Anpau, seeing that her work is done, then flies down to greet the two.

Once the trio lands at the foot of the cliff, they find themselves at the outskirts of a worker camp. At first the trio decide to go around to head to the Carnival, but soon notice an odd sight. All of the workers there are asleep! Worrying that something might have happened to them, Lou heads to the camp. After shaking one of the workers awake however, Lou gets something unexpected.

"Huh wait what?!"

It turns out that it was just a genuine case of drowsiness. A few of the other workers open an eye to see what's going on, then shrug and go back to sleep. It is then that one of the trio makes the mistake of asking the worker why he is asleep when the people up top are waiting for the road to be fixed...

"Oh I see how it is, you're one of those lousy tourists! All you people ever do is complain complain complain! You know what, I spent a week getting that stupid road into shape, and you know what happened? Bam! A freak storm came in and washed the road away again! And now they want me to fix it again while there's a perfectly good festival in town! Fie to them I say! They never give me any respect anyway. Besides, if they're all stuck up there, that means less crowds."

Having had just about enough of this worker's rant, the trio are about to storm off, but then the worker yanks Lou back and says

"Hold up you stupid tourist, I still haven't gotten even with you for disturbing my nap. Get him, Nidoking and Conkeldurr!"

It looks like Lou has a fight on his hands...

"What?! How can this be! Noooooooo...."

:Conkeldurr: "Now can we go to work? Those people really need to get to the festival."

"...Fine, but not because the tourist bothered me into it. Not at all! I guess while I'm being so generous I should give you a warning. My fellow villagers in town get a bit...weird once night falls during the festival. No matter what you do, do NOT participate in the trick or treating or take any odd jobs after the sun sets, or you will regret it. Well, I'll be up in a minute after my Pokemon heal up. Get moving."

The other workers at the site, having woken up and gotten really into the fight, grumble a bit and start picking up their tools. The trio says their goodbyes, jovial or otherwise, and heads towards Stanislas Town. Maybe now they can actually enjoy the festival.

The trio reach Stanislas Town, where the festival is already underway. The town is awash in Halloween decorations of all kinds! Orange and purple streamers are hung all over the town's eerie, Victorian-style street lamps, as the town is covered in a light fog. Each house is heavily decorated with all sorts of spooky decorations, from animatronic witches cackling over black cauldrons full of smoke, to skeletons that almost seem to peer into your soul, to the hundreds of artistic ghosts hung from the trees. Many Ghost typed Pokémon are even joining the festivities, from Haunter sneaking up behind unsuspecting people and giving them a fright, Gourgeist posing with the Jack-o-Lanterns in the lawns, and Chandelure adding their own eerie lights to the town, giving the scenery an almost purple glow. Stanislas is a town that, rather than merely enjoying the Halloween season, absolutely revels in the festivities.

After a quick stop at the Pokémon Center to heal up, Lou and his Pokémon step outside into the town square, where the Daylight Carnival is taking place. Large tents in orange, purple, and black are strewn across the square, with stalls of all kinds lighting up the place. A witch in town is serving up a delightful beverage at one stall, while another sees a caped Zoroark performing tricks in a magic show. Food is plentiful here, stalls filled with candies, caramel apples, and baked goods aplenty. A Gastly appears, and tries to spook the trio, then vanishes into thin air. This festival is a paradise for those looking for a fun, spooky night.

A couple of hours pass, with the trio enjoying the festival immensely, and then Lou hears a great cry. "IT'S ALIIIIIIIIIIIVE!" Thunder crackles in the direction of the center of town, and Lou motions toward his Pokemon to follow him.

Only, mysteriously, Anpao the Tomohawk is nowhere to be seen! It appears that in the excitement of the festival, Anpao has gotten separated from the group! Perhaps she wandered off somewhere?

Anpao knows that she should fly up high if she gets separated from us. However, her gullibility is likely working against us! No doubt she's been distracted by some market stall or attraction!


"Looks like we'll have to make a quick scene. Sorry, Gunhilde, would you be so kind?"

With her mighty Roar, Gunhilde should have no problem signalling Anpao to catch up... Regardless of the other attention it may attract.
 
Gunhilde lets out a primal Roar, thundering through the streets of the carnival. The force from the blast was so powerful that one of the more rickety stalls crumbles before it. People and Pokemon near Gunhilde scatter, fearful that she might start rampaging after such a display. Dutifully, Anpao flies on over to Lou, looking a little embarrassed.

Lou asks Anpao where she was, and excitedly the Tomohawk points in a direction and runs off. Not wanting Anpao to get lost in the crowds again, Lou follows closely behind. The trio weave through the streets and alleys of town, until they come upon a small wooden stall. It is somewhat secluded from the other festival stalls, being tucked between two buildings with the opening facing the street. It is a very ramshackle stall, with a few wooden planks nailed together, and at the top a sign that says "WARLOCK BASEBALL!". Behind the stall lies a simple fold up table, with a series of red plastic cups stacked together in a pyramid shape.

If there's a dodgier stall in this whole festival, you sure haven't seen it.

The figure behind the stall is setting the last cup upon the pyramid when he spots you.

"Oh why hello there my Tomohawk friend! This must be your trainer. I am the Candy Warlock, Hubert! Welcome to Warlock Baseball! Knock down all the targets in one baseball throw and you'll win this fabulous prize!"

The Warlock grabs something beneath the stall and shows it to you, and Lou immediately realizes why. The prize is something that Anpao really wants. In fact, she does not even bother waiting for Lou's permission before trying to line up a shot! Before Lou and Gunhilde can stop her, the Tomohawk winds up a pitch and lands a shot upon the pyramid. Bullseye! Cups go flying everywhere, but when the dust settles, one cup still stands.

"Oh, so close! Why don't you try another round? It only costs 5,000 Pokeyen!"

What?! Five thousand? That's double the price of a Max Potion! Even for carnival standards that's a ridiculous amount of Pokeyen. Lou starts to complain about the price, only for Hubert to state something devastating.

That was Anpao's twenty fifth attempt.

Lou and Hubert start arguing about the price and the 125,000 Pokeyen tab. Meanwhile, Gunhilde thinks something is off about this whole situation, and decides to throw a baseball at the last plastic cup standing.

*CLANG!*

The cup gives off a very much not plastic sound, in fact a very metallic one. This painted metal cup is not only heavy, but also glued to the table, as evidenced when Gunhilde's throw knocks off a chunk of table with the cup still attached. It's a scam, and the trio glare angrily at Hubert.

"Oh no! How am I supposed to buy all the candy with my stall ruined like this! Now you guys owe me for the game and the table! If you won't pay, then I'll have to get rough!"

After denying to pay for the obvious scam, it looks like Lou has yet another fight on his hands.
