Scenario: University of Science (T3)

Pokemon #1: :tyranitar:Gunhilde the Tyranitar
Pokemon Ability: Sand Stream
Pokemon Item: Weakness Policy
Pokemon Attitude: Confident and conceited. Gunhilde is happiest when she's able to throw her weight around and hold dominance over her surroundings.
Pokemon Background: Gunhilde's previous trainer was interested only in her utility, putting her to work in heavy labor. Following his arrest, Gunhilde languished in storage before making her escape the first time she was released from her ball. She lived within city limits for months as a feral Pokemon, wracking up quite the hefty bounty in property damage taking what she needed. Rather than hand Gunhilde over and claim the reward for her capture, Lou offered her a place in his team.

Pokemon #2: :gallade:Janus the Gallade
Pokemon Ability: Steadfast
Pokemon Item: Expert Belt
Pokemon Attitude: Boisterous and competitive. Janus seeks always innovate in his technique, and often pesters other Pokemon to annoyance trying to get them to train with him.
Pokemon Background: Twin of Juno and former contest competitor, bred and groomed for the role. Forced into pagentry as a Kirlia, Janus moved through the motions in a fog of apathy, until one contest devolved into a battle over a judging dispute. He found a spark in combat that he has chased ever after. He learned of a stone that could bring him closer to his goal and pilfered one as soon as he had the chance. Irreversably changed from the show-stopper his trainer had made him to be, Janus found himself discarded and adrift, until he crossed paths with Juno and Lou.

As a student of the University of Driftveil, you've always been one to seek out new academic opportunities, and as you make your way towards your next class, you can't help but notice the mysterious flashing light coming from one of the universities prestigious laboratories. Unovan universities are famous for their meteorology programs, so you figure that the lab's researchers are conducting more weather experiments. Interested in the study of weather yourself, you decide to forego your next class to investigate what is happening in the lab.

However, you notice that there is a Pokemon standing in front of the door to the lab. This suggests that the experiments being conducted are top secret, but you're just too curious to forget about it. The door is still far away so you can't quite make out who the lab's bouncer is, but you do notice that it bears resemblance to your partner Janus. You figure that strolling right by and walking in is not an option, but you know that there is only one entrance to this particular lab.

LouisCyphre, how do you get past the Pokemon guarding the lab's entrance?

How do I get passed the entrance, without even being able to see the Pokemon blocking the door?

I suppose...
  • First, we'll have :tyranitar:Gunhilde, uh, Confide how badly she wants in? As a weather-setter herself?
  • And then we'll have :gallade:Janus pour on the Charm? Maybe find some common ground with our intangibly blurry door blocker?
:ss/tyranitar:
"Who cares what's in there? I couldn't give a-"

"Just pretend for us. Say the line and get us in there."

:ss/gallade:
"Please, friend, play along! I want to meet this mystery figure!"

(We'll just pretend there are no flaws in my logic, that's how.)

The three of you approach the front door of the lab, and are greeted by a Gardevoir.

:gardevoir: "Lab passes?"

You don't have any to present her.

:gardevoir: "I'm sorry, I can't let you in."

Gunhilde clears her throat, and begins to explain her love for the study of weather. Gardevoir does not seem impressed. Gunhilde continues, trying to persuade Gardevoir by explaining how she can provide an amazing sandstorm to be studied. Gardevoir is not interested. Janus takes over with a different approach. Despite his twin sister being a Gardevoir, he finds it within himself to pour on the charm, as much as it disturbs him. Gardevoir still doesn't seem impressed, but she figures you guys won't give in, so she finally moves out of the way and opens the door for you.

Success: +2 TC

Gardevoir lets you pass, but before you're out of earshot, you hear her call for backup.

:gardevoir: "We have them surrounded."

Just then, an Excadrill rounds the corner of the hallway.

:excadrill: "You really thought we'd make it easy?"

You are challenged by the Lab Guards!

Scenario: Village of the Boreal Forest (T3)

:tyranitar:Gunhilde the Tyranitar
Item
: :muscle band:Muscle Band
Ability: Sand Stream
Background: Gunhilde's previous trainer was interested only in her utility, putting her to work in heavy labor.
Helpful: Gunhilde is confident in her strength and presence.
Harmful: Gunhilde is confident... and conceited. And very, very easy to flatter.

Gunhilde (Tyranitar ♀)

A historical bolt-throwing weapon, named the Domina Gunilda, mounted to Windsor Castle in the 1300s to repel intruders. The name spread to other large projectile emplacements, becoming synonymous with heavy artillery and the usage thereof.

Attitude and Motive:
Confident and conceited. Gunhilde is happiest when she's able to throw her weight around and hold dominance over her surroundings.

History:
Gunhilde's previous trainer was interested only in her utility, putting her to work in heavy labor. :necturna:Ira the Necturna
Item
: :razor fang:Razor Fang
Ability: Forewarn
Background: Found in the aftermath of an altercation in a busy metropolitan thoroughfare. Her previous trainer had attempted to discard her, citing an inability to contain her violent urges, and Ira had lashed out rather than merely languish. Several bystanders were harmed in the ensuing incident as well before she was contained. When the erratically quivering ball was thrust into Lou's hands by the trainer, it seemed there was more to their story that they weren't telling...
Helpful: Uh. I wouldn't hold your breath.
Harmful: Vengeful, cruel, and deeply fearful by nature. Quick to assume ill intent in others. Prone to actions of "pre-emptive self-defense."

Deep in the north of Sinnoh, rumours have spread about a village where one can learn of a mysterious and powerful battle technique. Initially, many thought the rumours pointed to Snowpoint City and the prestigious Snowpoint Temple, but that theory was quickly disproven as only an immovable statue of a goliath Pokémon was discovered. No, this village was west of Snowpoint, almost lining up with Floaroma town. An epic trainer had been there once before, but had fallen victim to the very tactic that village was said to teach: :haxplane:.

:haxplane: was said to be queen of all battling techniques, which only the most skilled of trainers could ever hope to pull off. As an energetic trainer from Twinleaf Town once said: "Make sure all your attacks hit! Avoid every enemy attack!", and :haxplane: was a surefire way to do just that. Determined to master this technique for yourself, you brave your way through the thick woods surrounding the snowy north to locate the one who teaches it.

Travelling west of Snowpoint, you reach Lake Acuity, which you'll likely be returning to soon. The expansive lake was the only reprieve from dense boreal forest, but you begin to question its use as a shortcut due to the fragility of the ice that it had become frozen over with. You also question, though, how many more snow-covered branches you were willing to navigate through. Even Ira was beginning to get agitated. Settling on the frozen lake, you take one step to test its stability. Nothing. Gunhilde tries as well. A slight crack, but it does hold. You'll need to exercise caution in order to cross.

LouisCyphre, how do you cross the frozen lake?

:ss/tyranitar:
"And just what are you trying to imply, exactly?"

:necturna:Ira - Soak to create more water to freeze.
:tyranitar:Gunhilde - Ice Beam to freeze the water into additional ice.

Gunhilde quickly removed her foot from the frozen lake, worried she may cause further damage. Ira shot her a cold glance, clearly judging her weight. She then, however, filled in the cracked ice with a flood of water, and Gunhilde understood her task. She froze the water, creating a sturdy place where she could stand. The duo continued down across the lake, with you not far behind. This side of the lake had not nearly as many footprints of potential journeyers as the other side. The lake must have posed quite the obstacle.

Success: +2 RPT

As you continue onward, you hear a disturbance in the nearby trees. Two levitating Pokémon have appeared to investigate the situation. They must have easily been able to cross the lake to train in solitude.

"Heh, look at these chumps. They think they can mess with our training spot!"

"Hah, in their dreams! We've been training for years to take on the hax queen herself! Let's show 'em why she's received so few challengers!"

Training for years? To take on the hax queen? You had no time to process this information, as the two Pokémon moved forward to engage a battle.
