COMMENCEMENT THREAD

Welcome to the sixth installment of the Battle Spot Premier League, and second installment of the Battle Stadium Premier League! In this team tournament, managers will draft their team from a pool and players and face off against a different team each week. The top three teams will continue on to playoffs to decide who will be the BSPL VI champion! That's half the teams, a 50/50 shot, so you might as well sign up. The champions will get a special role in the Smogon Battle Stadium discord.

This year, the league will be co-hosted by Hulavuta and Charlotte, with chemcoop as a format consultant only. Big thanks to DragonWhale for hosting the previous years and developing the format!

Basic Info:
  • All games are going to be held on Pokemon Showdown and general tournament rules apply.
  • Each week, teams get the following points depending on the result: Win = 2, Tie = 1, Loss = 0
  • Teams with equal points are ranked according to their differential (# of sets won - # of sets lost)
  • Teams that are completely even at the end of the season for a playoff spot will face each other in 3 sets: one format is selected from each team and the third set will be Gen 8 Battle Stadium Singles
BSPL VI tentative schedule:
  • August 7: Commencement
  • August 8th: Manager + Player Signups
  • August 15th: Manager Signups Close
  • August 22nd: Player Signups close - Draft some time this week, to be organized amongst managers
  • August 29th: Week 1
  • September 5th: Week 2
  • September 12th: Week 3
  • September 19th: Week 4
  • September 26th: Week 6
  • October 3rd: Semifinals
  • October 10th: Finals

As usual, this will serve as the general talk thread/meme hub of the tournament, as well as the place where pre-tournament discussions will take place.

Tentative format and Discussion points:
  • Format: Right now, the tentative format is 2 Series 9 SS, 1 Series 10 SS, 1 USUM BSS, 1 ORAS BSS, 1 GBU
  • Manager starting price could be either, 10k, or 10k with +1.5k for every BSPL V win.
  • Teamlock is enabled as it has been
  • No Festive Feud, please do not ask
Happy posting!

I think there should be a format change. Idk what the fucking competition was called, but the one without dmax should prob be a slot bc of how awful dmax is.
We do have a non-dmax slot right now; it is the one with legends but the general consensus now is that doing special formats is too much of a slippery slope. Hence, no Festive Feud. :blobsad:

i did your mom, what are you gonna do about it? :v4:

- Probably everyone
S10 rules are no dmax, as Hula mentions.
They're the current on-cart ladder rules. So I feel it's best to include them. They only make up one slot however, compared to two S9 slots, because it's clear that S9 are the standard rules of the swsh bss. They match the 'flat' rules of all previous gens. In the future, when swsh is itself an old gen, they will remain as the only rules played for it.

So some updates!

We've hit a bit of a slow crawl in signups, which is regrettable, but these things will happen. The best thing is to be adaptable. So, we're changing up the format a bit. First off, there will be 4 managers:

zaaya - Celadon Yadons
Thick Fat Azumarill - Blackthorn Belly Drummers
chemcoop - Houston Stealth Rockets
Psynergy - Fallarbor Flare Blitzers

This means we're doubling the round robin, so each matchup will have a rematch in the latter half of the league. A chance for revenge and to see how much the teams have grown, should be an interesting trade-off, at the least.
