Welcome to the Natdex AG iteration of Victim of the Week! Hopefully this project will help gather information and spread knowledge of checks and counters to popular Pokemon in the tier.

How it works
Each week I will nominate a Pokemon as VotW. You guys will need to nominate a Pokemon to either check or counter the VotW (make sure to state which in post).
The submission phase will last 5 days and the voting phase will last 2 days each cycle.
The "Hall of Fame" will be a ladder system with the winner getting 3 points each week, 2nd place getting 2, and 3rd place getting 1. Plus your sets will be archived.

Rules
1. Follow the definitions for checks and counters in The Smog issue #32.
2. Please make sure to explain the set. Doesn't need to be long just make sure people know why its a check / counter. Preferably with calcs
3. Reservations only last 12 hours.
4. Different sets of the same Pokemon can be nominated.
5. Don't be toxic, if someone posts a 'bad' set help them out instead of flaming.
6. Do not vote for yourself

And quite frankly, the first AG victim is:

:sm/Yveltal:

Yveltal @ Life Orb
Ability: Dark Aura
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Dark Pulse
- Oblivion Wing
- Heat Wave
- Hidden Power Rock

AG's most destructive force!
We need checks and we need them fast!
Shoot!

[Submission phase ends Saturday 21nd March]

Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Pursuit
- Rock Tomb
- Stealth Rock
- Foul Play

This is the prototypical Yveltal check; while it doesn't handle every Yveltal variant, the posted one is walled relatively easily. By using another bulky partner to pivot, the effect of the SpD drops from Yveltal's dynamax can also be nullified. Ho-Oh is the most common example of such a partner, though it has to be careful of being brought in on max rockfall of course.
Rock Tomb has the added benefit of removing the speed boosts from max airstream, which makes revenge killing Yveltal post-dynamax easier to accomplish.

252+ SpA Life Orb Dark Aura Yveltal Max Darkness vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 97-116 (24 - 28.7%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Life Orb Dark Aura Yveltal Max Darkness vs. -1 248 HP / 252+ SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 147-173 (36.4 - 42.9%) -- 96.9% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Life Orb Dark Aura Yveltal Dark Pulse vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 60-70 (14.8 - 17.3%) -- possible 9HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 Atk Tyranitar Rock Tomb vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Yveltal: 174-206 (44.2 - 52.4%) -- 75.4% chance to 2HKO after sandstorm damage

Submitting as a counter.

Diancie @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Rest
- Diamond Storm
- Moonblast

I have tried Diancie a bit and it beats yveltal pretty well, Diancies typing allows it to resist both of yveltal's stabs and clear body allows to it stay in on yveltal without having to worry about special defense drops. and you can just rest off the damage that yveltal does

Calcs

252+ SpA Life Orb Dark Aura Yveltal Max Darkness vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Diancie: 109-129 (35.8 - 42.4%) -- 92.2% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Life Orb Dark Aura Yveltal Max Darkness vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Dynamax Diancie: 109-129 (17.9 - 21.2%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Diancie Max Starfall vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Dynamax Yveltal: 288-338 (36.6 - 43%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Dark Aura Yveltal Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Diancie: 66-79 (21.7 - 25.9%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Diancie Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Yveltal: 210-248 (53.4 - 63.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Reserving Chansey

Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Confide
- Soft-Boiled
- Aromatherapy
- Toxic

Chansey just flat out walls this thing. I picked a max spdef spread because it doesn’t need to worry at all about physical attacks. Chansey can sponge multiple hits, even with spdef drops from max darkness, recover off the damage, and kill yveltal with toxic. It can also stall it down with confide, to mitigate the spdef drops.

252+ SpA Life Orb Dark Aura Yveltal Max Darkness vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Chansey: 188-224 (26.7 - 31.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Dark Aura Yveltal Max Darkness vs. -1 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Chansey: 285-335 (40.4 - 47.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

That should be all I need to say. Chansey utterly shuts down this yveltal set, owing to its lack of physical coverage. Taking less than 50 from max darkness even at -1 is utterly insane. Submitting as a counter.

Unicorns

Banned deucer.
mc56556 Unicorns I will give you another 5 hours to work out your reservations before moving on to the voting phase

Magnemite @ Berry Juice
Ability: Sturdy
Level: 1
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 69 HP / 69 Atk / 69 Def / 69 SpA / 69 SpD / 163 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Recycle
- Toxic
- Protect
- Volt Switch

Here's a set. Sturdy means that Magnemite cannot be knocked out with one hit. One-hit KO moves cannot knock it out, either, so that's pretty important to note. Recycle let's Magnemite regain Berry Juice so that the party don't stop. And Toxic is so that Magnemite can be the mean girl of the party.

Now that I got that out of my system, I'm sure that most of us are familiar with Magnemite stall from last generation. Sturdy + Berry Juice + Recycle + Protect creates 34 turns for Toxic damage to rack up on the opposing team, etc. etc.. The same situation works here, letting Magnemite stall out the opposing Yveltal's Dynamax. Yveltal would be unable to Taunt (if it had Taunt) during Dynamax, Sturdy still protects Magnemite, and Max Darkness Dark Pulse and Max Flare Heat Wave don't have the base attacks secondary effects. Given that this Yveltal set lacks Taunt, Magnemite can directly switch-in (without hazards) and counter Yveltal through Toxic + Life Orb chip, albeit Toxic ideally inflicted through the assistance of a teammate. This is all assuming Magnemite or the teammate hits Toxic, Dark Pulse doesn't flinch Magnemite, and Heat Wave doesn't burn, which are all laughable assumptions for the seasoned ladder player.

Here's a calc:
252+ SpA Life Orb Dark Aura Yveltal Max Darkness vs. 69 HP / 69 SpD Magnemite: 15937-18750 (144881.8 - 170454.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Tyranitar takes the victory, congrats Zayele!
We move on with AG's threat #2:

:sm/Xerneas:

Xerneas @ Power Herb
Ability: Fairy Aura
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Geomancy
- Moonblast
- Thunder
- Hidden Power Fire

Xerneas has been the defining force of Natdex AG since its inauguration with its signature Dynamancy set, with Yveltal only recently dethroning it.
Fire away!

Taking Dusk Mane before any of you losers can.
Necrozma-Dusk-Mane @ Leftovers
Ability: Prism Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Morning Sun
- Sunsteel Strike
- Knock Off

Xern can't beat this once Dusk Mane Dynamaxes, bout the most splashable counter out there. Opted to run spdef since Zacian doesn't exist in this hypothetical.

Calcs:
+2 252+ SpA Xerneas Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Prism Armor Necrozma-Dusk-Mane: 270-318 (33.9 - 39.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO(No sun dynamaxed)

+2 252+ SpA Xerneas Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Prism Armor Necrozma-Dusk-Mane in Sun: 405-477 (50.8 - 59.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (Sun)

Chansey just flat out walls this thing. I picked a max spdef spread because it doesn’t need to worry at all about physical attacks. Chansey can sponge multiple hits, softboil off the damage, drop Xern’s Spa with confide, stall out misty terrain, then kill it with toxic.

+2 252+ SpA Fairy Aura Xerneas Max Starfall vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Chansey: 291-343 (41.3 - 48.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

That should be all I need to say. Chansey utterly shuts down this xerneas set, taking easily recoverable damage even from +2 dynaxern. Submitting as a counter.

yes I copied this from my post last cycle and made minor adjustments. Don’t judge.

Reserving Amoonguss! Sorry, Chloe. :psygrump:

Amoonguss @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Clear Smog
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Giga Drain
- Grass Knot

Behold, the marvelous Amoonguss! Displaying the renowned RegenVest system, this set is able to survive GeoXern's strongest super-effective strike while Dynamaxing (Max Flare, from HP Fire) and respond with Clear Smog to undo stat-ups and nullify Xern's extraordinary offense. While moves like Giga Drain and Grass Knot do not necessarily lend themselves to this fight between GeoXern and Amoonguss, they do provide opportunities to fend off Primal Kyogre and hit Primal Groudon hard on the switch-in (with Grass Knot, in that case). Hidden Power Fire is for hitting Steel types at least with something, like Ferrothorn.

While this may seem like a meme set, I have used it a few times effectively to check GeoXern. With Regenerator as its ability, also, it is able to not be worn down over time in a battle, even if it is baited in by a Xern double-switch.

For your consideration as a GeoXern counter!

Arceus-Poison @ Toxic Plate
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 252 HP / 168 SpD / 88 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psych Up
- Recover
- Ice Beam
- Sludge Bomb

+2 252+ SpA Fairy Aura Xerneas Max Starfall vs. 248 HP / 168+ SpD Arceus-Poison: 211-249 (47.6 - 56.2%) -- 82.4% chance to 2HKO

+2 252+ SpA Xerneas Max Lightning vs. 248 HP / 168+ SpD Arceus-Poison: 228-269 (51.4 - 60.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252+ SpA Xerneas Max Lightning vs. +2 248 HP / 168+ SpD Arceus-Poison in Electric Terrain: 149-176 (33.6 - 39.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

This does a great job at checking Dynamax Xerneas without utilizing your own Dynamax. The functioning is pretty self explanatory. Xerneas does baby damage to this even if it has Geomancy boosts and is dynamaxed. Poisonceus clicks Psych Up, spams Recover till Xern's dynamax runs out and then Sludge Bombs it. While you cant really sweep a team with this set bc of Dusk Mane being everywhere, you get rid of the opponent's DMax and save your own, which is very valuable. Ice Beam is a nice coverage option and prevents it from being a set up bait for Zygarde and Rayquaza. Submitting this as a counter.
