Submitting Occa Berry Magearna as Counter:

Magearna @ Occa Berry
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Heart Swap
- Pain Split
- Fleur Cannon
- Volt Switch / Heal Bell

switch in as it geomancys, click heart swap, spam pain split until dynamax expires, and then KO with fleur. No dynamax required.

+2 252+ SpA Xerneas Max Flare vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Occa Berry Magearna: 174-205 (47.8 - 56.3%) -- 85.9% chance to 2HKO
Magearna's pain splits will leave it at at least 54% if I did my math correctly. Dynamax pain split mechanics are really funky, but mag will be able to take it regardless.
252+ SpA Xerneas Max Flare vs. +2 252 HP / 252+ SpD Magearna in Sun: 132-156 (36.2 - 42.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+2 0 SpA Magearna Fleur Cannon vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Fairy Aura Xerneas: 474-558 (120.6 - 141.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

6 turn replay showcasing the 1v1 better than I could possibly explain it.

Necrozma-DM takes the victory, congrats MDB!
We move on with AG's threat #3:

:sm/zygarde-complete:

Zygarde @ Leftovers
Ability: Power Construct
EVs: 16 HP / 224 Atk / 36 Def / 232 Spe
Impish Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Thousand Arrows
- Dragon Tail
- Substitute

Dragon Dance Zygarde-C has taken over as this tier's next best broken threat, only recently entering the S-ranks, because of how easily it takes advantage of current builds and runs away with victory when given the opportunity.
Go nuts!

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Baton Pass

- Will-O-Wisp
- Toxic

This is literally immune to all of zygarde’s moves. It switches into anything, then uses bp to slow pivot out when they realize they can‘t do jack to you. If fsr they stay in, you can just whittle them down with x-scissor. Negligible explanation required. Shed is good, people.

Avalugg @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Icicle Spear
- Recover
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic

Avalugg is probably the best Counter to Zygarde in a vacuum, as it not only takes zero from its attacks, but offensively threatens it quite easily. Icicle Spear is the preferred option here, as it guarantees damage through sub on Zygarde 50%, and always breaks the sub vs Zygarde Complete. Recover is used for longevity paired with HDB to alleviate trouble Avalugg may have switching in. The other two moves are p much just utility filler, but do make it an interesting anti meta pick.

4 Atk Avalugg Icicle Spear (3 hits) vs. 16 HP / 36+ Def Zygarde 50%: 300-360 (83.1 - 99.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
4 Atk Avalugg Icicle Spear (3 hits) vs. 16 HP / 36+ Def Zygarde Complete: 300-360 (51.9 - 62.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 224 Atk Zygarde Complete Max Quake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Avalugg: 90-106 (22.8 - 26.9%) -- 38.5% chance to 4HKO

Ability: Multitype
EVs: 248 HP / 224 Def / 36 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Perish Song
- Recover
- Judgment
- Filler

Good ol' Perish Song still forces out Zygarde-Complete, and ensures last mon Zygarde-Complete isn't beating a team for example. Getting zygarde in safetly is sometimes a pain, as you do need to avoid status, so this set will definitely be a nuisance for zygarde users. It also will deter them from trying a Dynamax sweep. Submitting as a counter, as you essentially force it out without any loss (you comfortably heal up). 36 speed EVs creeps an unboosted zygarde in base form, potentially to hit it before it subs or inflict status, if you do have that.

:ss/clefable:
Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Moonblast
- Soft-Boiled
- Stealth Rock
- Knock Off

Thanks to it's ability Unaware, Clefable is able to successfully take a hit from Zygarde and deal back damage with Moonblast. It also cannot be phased away thanks to it's fairy typing.

216+ Atk Zygarde-Complete Thousand Arrows vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 115-136 (29.1 - 34.5%) -- 99.9% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

Clefable is able to take 34% from Zygarde and easily heal it off as well as deal back damage with it's STAB damage.

0 SpA Clefable Moonblast vs. 12 HP / 48 SpD Zygarde: 194-230 (53.8 - 63.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Clefable Moonblast vs. 12 HP / 48 SpD Zygarde-Complete: 194-230 (33.6 - 39.9%) -- 26.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Submitting Slowbro-Mega as a hard check (probably a counter but your opponent can in theory dragon tail you out as you switch in). You're stupid bulky and have a weirdly powerful Ice Beam. You can also pivot a bit with regular slowbro's regenerator. This set also checks most offensive Dusk Mane and Ultra Necrozma, and Bulky Dusk Mane + Ho-Oh if you have Rest, which is a clear advantage over running Clefable, who otherwise gets walked on by most of the tier. Mega Bro can also emergency check Mega Ray (if they don't have Draco), as it lives +2 Adamant LO Dragon Ascent 94% of the time, which is truly an amazing demonstration of how bulky bro is.

Slowbro-Mega @ Slowbronite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Toxic
- Slack Off / Rest

+1 224 Atk Zygarde Max Quake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 121-144 (30.7 - 36.5%) -- 62.7% chance to 3HKO
+1 224 Atk Zygarde Thousand Arrows vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 84-100 (21.3 - 25.3%) -- 0.2% chance to 4HKO
0 SpA Slowbro-Mega Ice Beam vs. 16 HP / 0 SpD Zygarde: 340-404 (94.1 - 111.9%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after Leftovers recovery

Submitting tangrowth as a counter

:sm/tangrowth:
Tangrowth @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- HP Ice
- Sleep Powder

+1 216+ Atk Zygarde-Complete Max Quake vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Tangrowth: 87-103 (21.5 - 25.5%) -- 0.9% chance to 4HKO

+1 216+ Atk Zygarde-Complete Dragon Tail vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Tangrowth: 81-96 (20 - 23.8%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

0 SpA Tangrowth Hidden Power Ice vs. 12 HP / 48 SpD Zygarde-Complete: 188-224 (32.6 - 38.8%) -- 5.2% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

This Pokemon is a very consistent zygarde switchin due to it’s amazing ability regenerator. It takes almost no damage from zygarde’s powerful thousand arrows and if dragon tailed out will just regain its health and deal chip. In addition, knock off removes this set’s only form of recovery in leftovers. To prevent zygarde from getting too many special defense boosts from max quake then you can just sleep powder then switch into your own haze zygarde or something with phasing.

Submitting Whimsicott as a Counter.

:ss/whimsicott:
Whimsicott @ Leftovers
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 248 HP / 212 Def / 48 Spe
Bold Nature
- Moonblast
- Knock Off
- Toxic / Defog / Taunt / Memento
- Rest

Infiltrator Whimsicott successfully takes on all variants of Zygarde-C well but thrives versus DD DTail variants such as this one. It can remove its recovery through Substitute, it can hit for substantial damage, it can Toxic to whittle it down. It isn't passive against switch-ins as both Toxic and Knock Off both prevent anything from being a free switch-in. The Speed investment allows it to outspeed neutral base 90s like PDon and Kyogre, and the rest is just defense. This also allows it to counter Ferrothorn by removing its means of recovery, and being immune to Leech Seed.

224 Atk Zygarde-Complete Thousand Arrows vs. 248 HP / 212+ Def Whimsicott: 50-59 (15.4 - 18.2%) -- possible 8HKO after Leftovers recovery
Zygarde-Complete Dragon Tail vs. Whimsicott: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- possibly the worst move ever

0 SpA Whimsicott Moonblast vs. 16 HP / 0 SpD Zygarde-Complete: 174-206 (30.1 - 35.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

Unicorns

Banned deucer.

Tapu Bulu @ Shed Shell / Leftovers
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Whirlwind
- Taunt
- Toxic
- Nature's Madness / Leech Seed / Focus Punch / Horn Leech / Stone Edge / Synthesis / idc lol

The best counter to Zygarde-Complete in the game! Thanks to an awesome Grass/Fairy-typing giving a resistance to Thousand Arrows and immunity to Dragon Tail, phasing in Whirlwind, viable base stats, and usable passive recovery, Tapu Bulu beats every single Zygarde-Complete set in the game. Utility moves in Taunt, Toxic, and Nature's Madness punish nearly every switch-in Zygarde-Complete's teammates could potentially muster. Grassy Surge additionally provides unique team support in Grass-type attack boosts and 1/16th recovery per turn. Grassy Surge support benefits potential teammates like Groudon-Primal, Zacian-Crowned, Kartana, Gogoat, and Ferrothorn.

+1 216+ Atk Zygarde Thousand Arrows vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Tapu Bulu: 64-76 (18.6 - 22.1%) -- possible 6HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

Zygarde Dragon Tail vs. Tapu Bulu: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- possibly the worst move ever

+1 216+ Atk Zygarde Max Steelspike vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Tapu Bulu: 248-292 (72.3 - 85.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery (bc this is the shit I get lol)

0 SpA Groudon-Primal Solar Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Arceus-Ground in Grassy Terrain: 272-322 (61.2 - 72.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery (s/o Zen)

+1 252 Atk Zacian-Crowned Solar Blade vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Arceus-Ground in Grassy Terrain: 554-652 (124.7 - 146.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO (shadow realmed)

+1 252+ Atk Zacian-Crowned Behemoth Blade (100 BP) vs. +1 252 HP / 252+ Def Grassy Seed Grass Pelt Gogoat: 142-168 (31.5 - 37.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery (no explanation necessary)

The best counter to Zygarde-Complete in the game!
Excuse me, but does this set take damage from Zygarde-C? Yes. Is it theoretically possible for this zygarde set to beat it through a crit at +6? Yes.
+6 216 Atk Zygarde-Complete Max Quake vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Tapu Bulu on a critical hit: 336-396 (97.9 - 115.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock, Leftovers recovery, and Grassy Terrain recovery

While this certainly is a very good counter, it’s not the best counter, because Shedinja is.

Toxic / HP Dark hello

Submitting Power Herb Xerneas:

Xerneas @ Power Herb
Ability: Fairy Aura
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Geomancy
- Moonblast
- Thunder
- Hidden Power Fire

Xerneas makes for an excellent to Zygarde Complete. Xerneas has a solid physical bulk, as well as an excellent special bulk. Xerneas can set up on Zygarde, and it can easily counter Zygarde Complete.

After one Geomancy, Xerneas can easily counter Zygarde-Complete. Here are some damage calculations as proof:

252 HP / 4 SpD Zygarde-Complete: 948-1116 (149 - 175.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

12 HP / 48 SpD Zygarde: 902-1064 (250.5 - 295.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

80 HP / 0 SpD Zygarde-Complete: 950-1118 (160.2 - 188.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
:sm/zygarde-complete: :sm/xerneas:
While a boosted Xerneas can certainly hit zygarde for big damage, zygarde can just click substitute on the geomancy, and becomes unmanageable for xern if it dynamaxes to gain special defense boosts or has setup dragon dances beforehand.

+1 216+ Atk Zygarde-Complete Max Quake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Xerneas: 294-346 (74.8 - 88%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

+2 252+ SpA Fairy Aura Xerneas Moonblast vs. +1 12 HP / 48 SpD Dynamax Zygarde-Complete: 602-710 (52.2 - 61.6%) -- 97.7% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
