[OVERVIEW]
  • Aerodactyl's niche is as one of the fastest Pokemon in the metagame; it Speed ties with Mewtwo and is only outsped by Deoxys formes and niche weather sweepers, which allows it to revenge kill common Pokemon like Latios and Rayquaza.
  • Aerodactyl's good strong coverage attacks like Double-Edge and Earthquake assist in cleaning through weakened teams as well.
  • A large draw for Aerodactyl is its resistance to Normal, forcing common Choice-locked Pokemon such as Deoxys-A, Rayquaza, and Snorlax to switch out, giving Aerodactyl an opening to wallbreak.
  • Aerodactyl is still slower than Deoxys-A—the tier's best revenge killer and one of the most common Pokemon, so Aerodactyl can only act as a temporary answer to Choice Band Extreme Speed. This makes it much harder to utilize than Deoxys-A, as giving an opponent's Deoxys-A room to attack can be devastating.
  • Aerodactyl does have some competition as a revenge killing Flying-type as well, as Rayquaza has a powerful Extreme Speed, which is better against fast Pokemon like Deoxys-A and Salac Berry Groudon.

[SET COMMENTS]
Set Description
=========
  • Aerodactyl is best used as a revenge killer and cleaner, utilizing Rock Head Double-Edge as its best move against neutral targets and its good coverage options to break weakened teams.
  • It can threaten offensive foes like Latios, Rayquaza, and Ho-Oh, as well as defensive Pokemon like Blissey and Lugia to give its team momentum or a foe a strong hit from itself.
  • Earthquake forms the EdgeQuake combination with its STAB Rock Slide to pressure a large majority of the tier, but Earthquake is punishable by the many Flying-types and Pokemon with Levitate in the tier.
  • Hidden Power Ghost deals more damage to Latios, Latias, Dusclops, and Gengar but doesn't have the STAB boost and lack of immunities that Hidden Power Flying has.
  • A Jolly nature can be used to outrun neutral nature Mewtwo and Speed tie with maximum Speed Mewtwo, but Aerodactyl misses out on crucial 2HKOs such as Double-Edge against Snorlax with one layer of Spikes.
Team Options
========
  • Magneton is a strong team option, giving Aerodactyl an easier time cleaning teams by trapping Skarmory and Forretress.
  • Groudon similarly threatens Steel-types and also appreciates that Aerodactyl pressures Lugia and helps overwhelm walls like Skarmory.
  • Forretress or Skarmory provide Spikes, which is incredible for Aerodactyl, as most of its checks like Groudon and Metagross are worn down easily by them, giving it a much easier time breaking through teams.
  • Deoxys-A appreciates Aerodactyl being able to switch into Extreme Speed. Aerodactyl can pivot into Rayquaza, and Deoxys-A in return pressures almost every Pokemon in the metagame very hard, especially Steel-types like Metagross and Forretress, which Aerodactyl needs worn down.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Pursuit can be used to trap a Deoxys-A locked into Extreme Speed or with Attack drops from Superpower. It almost always OHKOes after one layer of Spikes, but the physical coverage is more useful overall.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Groudon**: Groudon can switch into any of Aerodactyl's moves rather comfortably and threaten to cripple it with Thunder Wave or OHKO with Rock Slide if invested.

**Fast Revenge Killers**: Rock Slide Deoxys-A and weather sweepers like Omastar and Kabutops outspeed Aerodactyl and threaten to OHKO it.

**Steel-types**: Metagross can threaten to OHKO Aerodactyl with Meteor Mash, while Forretress and Skarmory can shrug its hits off and set up Spikes. Jirachi can take its STAB options and Double-Edge and 2HKO with Ice Punch. Metagross and Jirachi must be wary of Earthquake, however.

**Status**: Paralysis from Body Slam Snorlax, burn from Ho-Oh's Sacred Fire, and all other status effects can limit Aerodactyl greatly.

**Deoxys-D**: Deoxys-D avoids being 2HKOed by any move from Aerodactyl, but it can be broken after Spikes with Hidden Power Ghost, so it must be careful with entry hazards up.

[OVERVIEW]
  • Aerodactyl is one of the fastest revenge killers in the metagame. (might be worth saying it's one of the fastest Pokemon in the metagame or saying "it's one of the most potent revenge killers" cause most revenge killers are either fast or rely on E-Speed. Ties Mewtwo and only the Deoxys' are faster from "relevant" Pokemon. up to you, this is 100% optional)
  • Its Speed tier above the likes of Latios, Latias, and Rayquaza let it threaten a majority of the metagame when weakened with its incredibly strong STAB coverage and Double Edge. (fix the syntax a bit cause it reads awkward, maybe a sign of you going for bullet points)
  • A large draw for Aerodactyl is its resistance to Normal, meaning common choice locked Pokemon such as Deoxys-A, Rayquaza, and Snorlax get forced out when locked into their move that threatens faster Pokemon the hardest. (good point, but I'd emphasize how it being an Extreme Speed resist makes it a potent revenge killer AND hard to revenge kill)
  • Aerodactyl is still slower than Deoxys-A, however, so if it locks into another move or is using a special attacking set Aerodactyl has a much harder time forcing it out.
  • Rayquaza gives stiff competition as a revenge killing Choice Band Flying-type, with Extreme Speed having the guaranteed way to deal with Deoxys-A. The natural Speed and Rock-typing of Aerodactyl still gives it the edge in some matchups, though, so it's worth considering as a potent cleaner and speed control option.

Set Description
=========
  • Aerodactylis Aerodactyl is best used as a revenge killer and cleaner, using utilizing Rock Head with a strong Double Edge and its good coverage options to break weakened teams. (Double Edge is Aerodactyl's strongest move and hits most of the tier for neutral; mention that)
  • It can force out threaten namely Latios, Rayquaza, and defensive Pokemon like Blissey and Lugia (it doesn't actually OHKO Latios so it's not TRULY forced out) to give its team momentum or a strong hit from itself. (added period)
  • Rock Slide is good STAB when not clicking Double Edge, being the main way of forcing out the many good Flying-types in the tier (self explanatory)
  • Earthquake is a punishable move to click as all non-grounded Pokemon can abuse it, but it's still a solid strong coverage option to pressure Steel and Rock-types like Metagross and Tyranitar. (clean this up so it mentions how potent EdgeQuake coverage is)
  • Hidden Power Flying is a strong STAB (don't say "STAB option" or the GP team will send me to the gulag. I'd rather have this point be about WHY you'd even want a STAB move) option that hits a lot of the tier neutrally, but it lacks in the ability to pressure much in particular especially hard. Hidden Power Ghost instead threatens more damage on the Lati twins and Dusclops, among others.(what others? elaborate or drop this point.)
  • An Adamant nature is used to boost Aerodactyl's power as high as possible when paired with Choice Band, but a A Jolly nature can also be used to outrun non-speed boosting neutral nature Mewtwo and speed tie with maximum Max Speed Mewtwo, but the power drop is noticeable when not OHKOing Pokemon. but you miss out on crucial 2HKOs such as Snorlax after taking damage from 1 layer of Spikes.

Team Options
========

  • Magneton is a strong team option, being able to trap Steel-types that try and answer Double Edge like Forretress and Skarmory for Aerodactyl to have an easier time breaking through teams whenever it gets an opportunity to switch in.
  • Groudon similarly threatens Steel-types while also appreciating Aerodactyl pressuring Lugia and helping to overwhelm walls like Skarmory.
  • Forretress or Skarmory provide Spikes which is incredible for Aerodactyl as most of its checks like Groudon and Metagross are grounded, giving it a much easier time breaking through teams. (I think the term "grounded" is generally avoided, so change the wording a bit)
  • With its fear of Extreme Speed and incredible power, Deoxys-A benefits from the presence of Aerodactyl as well. It can pivot into Pokemon like Rayquaza trying to revenge kill Deoxys-A with Extreme Speed, and Deoxys-A in return pressures almost every Pokemon in the metagame very hard, but especially Steel-types like Metagross and Forretress which Aerodactyl needs worn down. (this is worded quite oddly, Aerodactyl can check Rayquaza but the rest is super generic. Try to make it more specific)

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Pursuit can be used to trap a Deoxys-A locked into Extreme Speed or with attack drops from Superpower, but it doesn't always OHKO Deoxys-A switching out making it a somewhat unreliable option. (it almost always OHKOs after 1 layer of Spikes; the coverage is much better, though)

Checks and Counters
===================

**Groudon**: Double Edge is not able to 2HKO Groudon with normal bulk investment, and it can threaten back with Thunder Wave or Rock slide while being the best answer to Aerodactyl's own Rock Slide. Groudon can switch into any of Aerodactyl's move rather comfortably and threaten to cripple it with Thunder Wave or OHKO with Rock Slide if invested.

**Fast Revenge Killers**: Rock Slide Deoxys-A, Deoxys-N, (stop) and weather sweepers like Omastar and Kabutops outspeed Aerodactyl and threaten it with an to OHKO it.

**Steel-types**: While many Steel-types are threatened by Earthquake, locking into Earthquake is a risky and exploitable option for Aerodactyl so Steel-types have a fairly easy time pivoting into other Choice Band moves and threatening Aerodactyl back with either a strong hit, or in Skarmory and Forretress's case, setting up Spikes. Metagross can threaten to OHKO Aerodactyl with Meteor Mash while Forretress and Skarmory can shrug its hits off and set up Spikes. Jirachi can take its STAB options and Double Edge and 2HKO with Ice Punch. Metagross and Jirachi must be wary of Earthquake, however.

(not so much a physical Flying-type as an anti-offense tool. Aero is sold as revenge killer for Deoxys-A and to an extent Latios, which Rayquaza also does. go for the revenge killer angle)

Moot point but I definitely think HP Ghost is better than HP Flying every time your team wants Aero.

Aero is not just sometimes outclassed but almost always outclassed with its one place being on a very specific sun structure. A little more emphasis on just how niche this pokemon is wouldn't hurt as I did not get message when reading this.

Rearranged the moves and tried clarifying some of its flaws more in the overview
