Ubers Championship II Change

As part of a movement to standardize ribbon playoffs across tiers, the 2019 Ubers Championship's format will be a single elimination Bo3 in the current generation. This change has given us the ability to move other tournaments around and change their formats (Ubers Classic III in particular) to give better flow of tournaments and metagames played throughout the year.

Tournament Information (Type A)
Seasonals: Large double elimination tournaments that feature the current generation of Ubers. Straightforward and simple.

Classic: A tournament featuring multiple single elimination cups of old generation (ORAS / BW2 / DPP / ADV) Ubers. In this edition of the Ubers Classic, the individual cups will not give points and will instead be scored in the form of a playoffs run, where those that make it in compete for Type A points.

Majors: A tournament that aims to put players against many opponents of varying skill levels to test their mettle. This tournament is divided into two stages - a "pools" stage, where players will be placed into groups and play against every opponent inside it, with a leader selected by the hosts in each group to increase the competition. The top two of every pool will make it into Stage 2 - a single elimination bracket.

Tournament Information (Type B)

Pentathlon: A Bo5 featuring the generations USM / ORAS / BW2 / DPP / ADV. The loser of the first match, which is fixed to USM unless both players agree to a different generation, will then decide on the next generation to be played. All 5 generations must be played in a series, so there can be no repeats.

Homefield Advantage: A new tournament to the circuit that works in the spirit of the 2018 Ubers Championship format. Players sign up with a generation of their choice for a Bo3 single elimination tournament, with the first game locked to USM Ubers. The loser of that game then plays their opponent in the generation they signed up with - giving the "homefield advantage".

Ladder Tournament: This tournament aims to give exposure to both upcoming players and veterans alike by having them compete to the top of the leaderboard on the Ubers Showdown ladder on newly made accounts. There will be 2 cycles, where the top 8 from both of them will enter a single elimination bracket to earn circuit points.

Live: This tournament comes in the form of live tournaments held on 2 days of a weekend over a 6 week period, similarly to the official Smogon Tour. USM Ubers will be the generation of choice for the first and last week, with our typical old generations (ORAS to ADV) featuring in between. This culminates with a playoffs to earn circuit points.

Last Chance: The final regular USM tournament of the circuit year. A simple Bo3 for players to make the final push to Championship playoffs.

Tournament Information (Type C)

As a general rule, our Type C tournaments will likely be created on shorter notice, and feature "fun" oriented formats and metagames. This is why the schedule doesn't feature very many - potential ideas from hosts will be considered by the Ubers moderation team to be added throughout the year. Expect this section to have periodic updates to cover the accepted tournament ideas.
Arceus DPP Ubers: A simple single elimination bracket of DPP Ubers where Arceus's fully EV'd ability is legal. Replays must be saved, and imports of the teams used must be submitted prior to a match to ensure fair play. Users that are caught cheating are liable to receive bans from the Ubers Circuit.

The Shadow Realm of Ubers: A Bo3 of USM Ubers where opponents each ban a Pokemon from use in the series while scheduling.

The Ƶany Tour: A simple Bo3 USM Ubers tournament where Z-Moves are banned.

Type A: Tournaments given a signficant weight in the circuit, with around one per season of the year. Doing well in Type A tournaments will be of the greatest help to a budding Championship contender.

Type B: Tournaments that tend to feature older generations of Ubers and can offer alternative metagames to gain circuit points in. Some Type B tournaments may still feature the current generation, but in a less weighted way than equivalent Type A tournaments. Successful play in Type B tournaments can still be a very viable way of gathering points for entry to the Ubers Championship.

Type C: Type C tournaments aim to be a catch-all for tournaments in our circuit that feature Ubers play at its core. Live tournaments and other tournaments created with little advance warning such as a suspect tournament are also likely to be classed as Type C. Unofficial formats, ideas, and metagames may feature here. Type C tournaments should be seen as a small bonus towards a Championship run.

Points System

The 2019 points system will continue the same way as our 2018 circuit did. For further information, check out this post. A spreadsheet of the current standings will be added here when it is made, likely after some tournaments have completed.

That wraps up the necessary information to digest our 2019 circuit. I'd like to mention that we are always on the lookout for willing hosts! Edit: Our tournament slots are now filling out but we will take down names of users on the lookout to host a tournament, and they may be approached when a new tournament or slot opens up! Users that wish to contribute to Ubers via tour hosting are welcome to enquire with the Ubers moderation team, and good work can be rewarded with the Community Contributor badge (
).

Enjoy 2019!
