1v1 Mega Gallade

OVERVIEW:
  • Mega Gallade is a physical attacking Pokemon with a decent Attack stat, good Speed and good enough defences to take on some common 1v1 threats like Kyurem-B, Mega Gyarados, Mega Charizards.
  • It has an Attack stat of 165, with access to moves like Close Combat, Zen Headbutt, Stone Edge, Earthquake, and Utility moves like Will-O-Wisp, Bulk Up, Taunt, and Thunder Wave, which helps it to setup and kill Pokemon like Kyurem-B, Mega Gyarados, Mega Charizard, Mega Venusaur, Snorlax, Chansey, Donphan, and Golem.
  • It also has 68 HP/ 95 Defense/ 115 SpecialDefense which, with suitable investments, is able to tank an Outrage from Kyurem-B, a +1 max Attack Waterfall from Mega Gyarados and an Outrage from Mega Charizard X on the physical offense, and a Hyper Beam form Adaptability Porygon-Z and a 190 Base Power GigaVolt Havoc from Magnezone on the Special Attack side.
  • It also has a very good Speed tier, which enables it to just outspeed max Speed Mega Charizard and set up against it.
  • However, its major drawback is its weakness to Fairy-type Pokemon like the Guardian Deities and Mega Mawile, which reduces its usage. Its ability, Steadfast, is also very limited in its usage helpful against Fake Out users like Mega Lopunny, and Serene Grace flinchers like Jirachi and Togekiss.

Set Comments:
Moves:

  • Either Bulk Up or Swords Dance can be used as a set up move against Pokemon like Mega Gyarados, Donphan, and Crustle. While it takes 2 Bulk Up to set up reliably against these Pokemon, it takes only one Swords Dance to get the KO. But Bulk Up increases the Defense stat as well, enabling it to survive more attacks.
  • Close Combat is the main attacking STAB move in this set, which can be used to KO Kyurem-B, Mega Gyarados, Donphan, Mega Lopunny, and Heatran.
  • Rock Tomb helps in lowering the speed of set-up Pokemon like Mega Gyarados, Mega Charizard X, and also for Pokemon which might lower your Speed like Rock Tomb Donphan.
  • Will-O-Wisp is used for chip damage and also for halving the Attack of physical attackers like Mega Gyarados, Donphan, and Golem. It can also be used to break FEAR mons.
Set Details:
  • The 100HP/96 Defense helps in tanking a Tectonic Rage+ a couple of Earthquake
from a burnt Donphan after Bulk Up/Swords Dance on turns 2 and 3 after burning it turn 1. It also helps in tanking an Outrage from Kyurem-B.
  • The 196 Speed EVs, with Jolly nature, helps in outspeeding Jolly Garchomp.
  • The remaining EVs are put into the Attack stat to increase its attacking capacity.

Usage Tips:

  • It has two attacking moves, namely Close Combat and Rock Tomb, so it can be brought against Dark-, Normal-, Ice-, Steel- Rock-, and Fire-type Pokemon like Mega Gyarados, Snorlax, Kyurem-B, Heatran, Golem, and Mega Charizard.
  • Since it can burn and sweep physical attackers, it can also be brought against Pokemon like Donphan, Garchomp, Sawk, and Mega Swampert. In thee cases, the best course of action is to use Will-O-Wisp, followed by Bulk Up/Swords Dance before finishing with Close Combat to ensure maximum tanking and assured KO.
  • While matched up against Charizard, start with Rock Tomb. If it was a Mega Charizard Y, it usually dies, and if it was a Mega Charizard X using Dragon Dance, use Bulk Up followed by Close Combat, or if it was a Mega Charizard X using Outrage, finish with Close Combat.
  • Do not send against the Guardian Deities, since Mega Gallade has no moves to KO them, or even 2HKO them while they can easily OHKO or 2HKO Mega Gallade.
  • Try to avoid bringing it against physically defensive stall Pokemon like Mega Venusaur, Mega Slowbro or Mega Sableye. Also, avoid sending it against bulky Flying-type and fast Flying-type and Ghost-type Pokemon like Celesteela, Mega Pinsir or Mega Gengar.
Team Options:
  • Since Mega Gallade is weak to Flying-type, Fairy-type, and Ghost-type Pokemon, like Mega Mawile, Guardian Deities, Celesteela, and Mega Gengar, Specially Defensive Pokemon like Mega Venusaur and Chansey
