    CAP 32 - Part 3 - Concept Assessment 2

Based on a lot of the comments here, I’m seeing a lot of support for some kind of pivot. I think something interesting we could try and pursue is, as I mentioned before in my previous post, a role similar to Gastrodon. My reasoning for this is having an at least somewhat defensively oriented...

    CAP 32 - Part 3 - Concept Assessment 2

What kinds of roles can Fire/Fairy reasonably fill? What kinds of roles does Fire/Fairy naturally lend itself to? What kinds of roles would be best for Fire/Fairy? In the interest of being thorough I'm going to list my thoughts on just about every role that we could even consider. It's gonna be...

Announcement np: SV OU Suspect Process, Round 1 - Oops!...I Did It Again

I’m working on getting reqs rn and I’m gonna state my piece from my experience so far. I have yet to lose a game solely because of Tera. Like since game was released. Yeah I’ve lost to Tera abusers, but that was because my team didn’t possess the tool needed to beat them (i.e. having no...

Metagame Terastallization Tiering Discussion [ UPDATE POST #1293]

Just pointing out I have yet to see a compelling argument that can refute the fact that Terastalizing is in fact very competitive, skillful, and adds an extra layer of strategy onto the game as presented here. As others have said throughout the thread, this post actually provides key examples...

Metagame Terastallization Tiering Discussion [ UPDATE POST #1293]

Games are definitely decided more by momentum in this generation, I'll agree. It does definitely take a lot to swing that momentum back to your favor if they have a Dragon Dance'd Flying type Roaring Moon in your face, but that's the point. That wasn't random at all. You allowed it to happen in...

Metagame Terastallization Tiering Discussion [ UPDATE POST #1293]

I would even go farther to say Tera types are MORE competitive than these things. You can control how you play around mons that normally terastalize and improve your odds of success by being proactive with switches and taking calculated risks. You can't play around the fact that you might get...

Metagame Terastallization Tiering Discussion [ UPDATE POST #1293]

This is definitely the most based take in the thread. It's similar to Megas in this way, that certain Pokemon can take advantage of it better than others, and that there is an opportunity cost that makes it hard to justify having multiple mons that utilize the mechanic on the same team.

Metagame Terastallization Tiering Discussion [ UPDATE POST #1293]

As an extraordinarily mid competitive player, I have to say that most of the anti-Tera arguments don't really boil down to it being unbalanced, but that it makes the game a sequence of 50/50s. If they Tera, and you didn't expect it, you lose a mon. But I don't really see that at midlevel. Most...

    CAP 31 - Part 6 - Defining Moves

    1. I don't really like the idea of being a utility heavy mon. Our utility in conversations up to this point has been purely in wall breaking and laughing in the face of anything that doesn't resist EdgeQuake. I'd be for Taunt in a vacuum though, as it does synergize really well with our desire...

    CAP 31 - Part 5 - Threats Discussion

I agree. At this stage, developing a hard list of mons we're supposed to lose to is just very uncertain. We could say we want to be fully countered by Ferrothorn, but that limits our access to Knock Off resistance. We could say that we want to be checked by Landorus, but that limits our access...

    CAP 31 - Part 5 - Threats Discussion

I think the point of the Def boost is a little lost here. We aren't and can't rely on the Def boost to perform our main role. Which would you rather have on your team, a Landorus-T that's able to pressure offensive and defensive mons with Swords Dance and Toxic respectively? Or CAP 31 that needs...

    CAP 31 - Part 5 - Threats Discussion

I think a good benchmark here is Garchomp, who takes at most 40% from CC and as little as 34% without investment. These are somewhere around the ideal damage calcs I think we can take against Zeraora and still be able to win the matchup, because its already fair to say we won't outspeed Zeraora...

    CAP 31 - Part 5 - Threats Discussion

I agree that our immunities are both equally valuable, my main point here is that if we focus on winning matchups against bulky Water types, we'll have a clearly defined niche and a role to fill as a wallbreaker. Trying to counter Electric types is definitely something we should aim for, but if...

    CAP 31 - Part 5 - Threats Discussion

These are all extremely valid, but something to keep in mind is that we, by design, benefit immensely from getting in for free. Getting in for free via pivoting or sacs gives us more opportunities to click Diamond Storm and fish for boosts, and it lets us get in on a lot of these mons relatively...

    CAP 31 - Part 5 - Threats Discussion

I think in no particular order, our greatest offensive threats are Kartana, Weavile, and Jumbao. Kartana clicks Leaf Blade and we will most likely still die even at +2 due to the insane power behind it. Weavile is probably the best revenge killer against us because Ice Shard + Triple Axel will...

    CAP 31 - Part 4 - Primary Ability Discussion

We aren't forced to run Protect, but given how up in the air our movepool is and how strong Ground/Rock coverage is, it is something to keep in mind as a possibility. I think Speed Boost is only good if our speed is just slow enough that we need +1 to compete with the meta game and our bulk is...

    CAP 31 - Part 4 - Primary Ability Discussion

My main point is that an ability that only counters Landorus isn't as useful game to game as an ability with wider use. I'm not convinced Landorus can really even pressure us at this point. That depends on our movepool and stats, because the greatest threats Landorus has against us are Toxic and...

    CAP 31 - Part 4 - Primary Ability Discussion

As the thread comes to a close, I'm going to go on a little spiel about abilities I think people have been talking about consistently. Water Absorb: This ability is deceptively valuable as a Ground type, and has added utility in preventing one of the main sources of burns. This is still...

    CAP 31 - Part 4 - Primary Ability Discussion

Imagine forgetting the funny crit bear. Blanking Urshifu-R is a big deal and I really don’t think it’ll be able to revenge kill us if we have WA. I think Mirror Armor is the next best thing. I can’t foresee Defiant performing quite as well as we’d hope, and Moxie, another very strong option...
