Ubers is now a tier; a new Metagame called Anything Goes is added; M-Ray is banned from Ubers

I don't think anybody really wants a battle where the winner is whoever has the most spare time on their hands.

Ubers is now a tier; a new Metagame called Anything Goes is added; M-Ray is banned from Ubers

Dang, I had wanted to try out Mega-Ray in Ubers. Still a bit iffy on the decision to ban mega-quaza since it goes against ubers philosophy yadayada (as previously mentioned.) But, I guess that's what AG is for. I'm assuming if we get enough pokemon that manage to get into Mega-Quaza's power...

Gen 6 np: XY Ubers Shadow Tag Suspect Test - Stuck In The Middle With You

Yeah, you kinda realized it at the end of this post but I think we actually can jump past theorymoning if we're not exclusively focusing on mons with our questioning (as orch kinda mentioned in reply.) What we need to ask is what it is that shadow tag does and what's uncompetitive/competitive...

Official XY Ubers Gengarite Suspect Voting

Alright so here we go My stance on Mega Gengar's (aka. Gengarite’s) suspect testing has always been a bit shaky. I’ve tried to take my time to read every single post in the Ubers threads about the testing to try to consider both sides of the argument and come to a decision on vote day. One...

Gen 6 np: XY Ubers Gengarite Suspect Test - In The Shadows [READ POST #71]

I think we've mentioned this before in this thread but I don't remember if anyone actually addressed (17 pages whoo boy.) My stance on the 50/50s that occur beforehand is that if you hold enough pressure for the match those 50/50s tend to not happen. That's where the argument cycles back to the...

Gen 6 np: XY Ubers Gengarite Suspect Test - In The Shadows [READ POST #71]

The Blind Doubles that you're referring to are irrelevant to the argument. The removal of skill only occurs during the turns which you can't switch. Or, perhaps I'm misinterpreting the difference between a Blind Double and a Double because they seem like they're the exact same thing if a Double...

Gen 6 np: XY Ubers Gengarite Suspect Test - In The Shadows [READ POST #71]

So, I don't think that the doubling is "skill" and I have witnessed (and executed) a lot of doubling while getting reqs so it's pretty obvious Gengar causes doubling. However, causing doubling doesn't remove skill since the majority of switches in a game are not double switches and, as you...

Gen 6 np: XY Ubers Gengarite Suspect Test - In The Shadows [READ POST #71]

My problem here is that "meaningful choice" is also pretty subjective considering, as you've stated other times in this thread, there are both instances where trap turns have a large influence on the game and other matches where they have no influence at all. Granted, you could still make the...

Gen 6 np: XY Ubers Gengarite Suspect Test - In The Shadows [READ POST #71]

I agree that assuming that a player is incapable of using their tools properly is a "stupid assumption." However, assuming that all players will use their tools correctly (like picking the wrong move) isn't fair either and stating that at the top level players have the power to see all of their...

Gen 6 np: XY Ubers Gengarite Suspect Test - In The Shadows [READ POST #71]

I hate to be that guy, but perhaps the fact that goth removing one mon from your team made you lose might be a sign that your team wasn't particularly good to begin with? You said yourself, you're not particularly good at team building. Shadow Taggers eat up teams that aren't constructed well...

Gen 6 np: XY Ubers Gengarite Suspect Test - In The Shadows [READ POST #71]

The problem is that Shadow Tag makes team matchup more important than skill but doesn't entirely remove it from the match. As I stated in an earlier post, if Stag made it so that no switches were EVER possible then we'd have ourselves an uncompetitive feature. However, as long as it doesn't do...

Gen 6 np: XY Ubers Gengarite Suspect Test - In The Shadows [READ POST #71]

I think you're jumping the gun a bit with this example. There is no possible way either player could look at the opposing team and guarantee that they know every set the opponent has (especially Arceus.) That may not be a massive game changer BUT it does mean that the game will be played...

Gen 6 np: XY Ubers Gengarite Suspect Test - In The Shadows [READ POST #71]

Personally, I think that "can I trap his counter to my sweeper before he does mine" does sound like a competitive game. A very different competitive game than what most players are used to but that's what Ubers is anyway. What you're implying is that Shadow Tag prevents players from switching...

Gen 6 np: XY Ubers Gengarite Suspect Test - In The Shadows [READ POST #71]

The combination aspect you pointed out really hits home that Shadow Tag's threat is its support. I do agree that preventing your opponent from switching out their needed mon in an extremely unfavorable matchup is broken. But the problem is that I just can't justify that it's uncompetitive since...
