Resource RBY Simple Questions & Simple Answers Thread

People never thought Golem was bulkier than Rhydon. You just made that up. Everyone has always known Rhydon is bulkier. RBY was already being simulated on Porygon's Big Show with the correct damage formula as early as 2000. PBS's battle logs output Pokémon's health in percentages, so it was...

In-game tier list policy discussion thread

Well, I guess I would just say that an equal exp. run would be one way to accurately gauge it ;) You yourself came up with another way in the RSE thread, too. I think it's an alright idea—the main problem being, equal exp. is an even better idea hehe

In-game tier list policy discussion thread

You're noting it but are you measuring it? For instance have you (or literally anyone ever) noted, "this slow mon lowered my team by 1-2 levels, and the measurement of how bad this is is [maybe thresholds that failed to be met, or maybe calculating that it's the equivalent of x number of base...

In-game tier list policy discussion thread

A bunch of responses, I'm going to try to reply to the main ideas in them rather than quote everything (so sorry if I miss something) I think my problems regarding the first question is that while in theory, y'all are saying you take exp. rates into account, I don't actually see that happening...

In-game tier list policy discussion thread

Would this be the right place to re-open the exp. rate discussion? I missed some of the fairly passionate discussion happening in the RSE thread. Was there a consensus? Me and Xator certainly didn't agree and at least some people were hitting "like" on our posts Anyway I think a lot of what...

Hiya, I'm after the deadline so I totally get if you don't want to look at them / put them into consideration for the write-ups, but I had some Ralts/Marill/etc. thoughts and here they are if you/anyone is curious. (tl;dr: corroborating logs about Ralts not being S-tier; Marill, by contrast...

Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald In-Game Tier List Discussion

Switching pokes after each trainer (or every two/three trainers if that's too often) is functionally similar to going to the menu and micromanaging the experience. Anyway, I just think that "what happens when we give Pokémon equal resources for the purpose of making a tier list that ranks a...

Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald In-Game Tier List Discussion

Yeah lol it's no fun. I kinda think of it like the tax Electric pokes have to pay every time they see a Geodude. "Aw crap we gotta switch out again" "Ugh this route is nothing but Hikers"

Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald In-Game Tier List Discussion

Yeah but like.... they're Poochyena and Carvanha? I dunno, I'm not really shaking in my boots if one of my Pokémon has to sit out from beating Team Magma/Aqua scrubs. I would definitely rather have Shock Wave than not, don't get me wrong, but having run Spoink a couple of times, I'd definitely...

Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald In-Game Tier List Discussion

I haven't felt that Ralts is held back by not having Shock Wave between the Wattson fight and the Norman fight (where you can get the free Thunderbolt TM). I'm pretty sure the only serious Dark type is Archie's Mightyena on Mt. Chimney which Ralts doesn't want to fight anyway. Not sure there are...

Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald In-Game Tier List Discussion

By a very big coincidence, I also did a run yesterday including Ralts, Torchic, and Spoink (as well as Shroomish and Marill)! I had hoped to confirm/refute my old arguments from previous posts for Spoink and Marill and against Ralts. I didn't know Xator_Nova's run was already underway (I see...

Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald In-Game Tier List Discussion

I did a Lunatone run some pages back, though didn't record logs / make a tiering case (in general I'm hesitant to propose tiers in this game because I don't yet know the gen super well). I ran Cosmic Power instead of Calm Mind, which is a lot worse, but Lunatone overall was still good. Hypnosis...

Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow In-Game Tiers - Reboot

Yeah, let me run through the tiers and share some gut feelings: Jynx vs. the legendary birds: we talked about this a little before—I'm glad we've brought the birds back up to A, since I don't think a two-tier difference between Jynx and the birds can be justified. I still kiiiiiinda think Jynx...

Yeah, I probably do like HBeam too much for its 5 PP. It is a hell of a nuclear option though.

Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow In-Game Tiers - Reboot

My (very broad) gut feeling is Dodrio in B given the constraints/levels we're doing things at, though it has been a long time since I ran it. Dodrio with early Hyper Beam would be A for sure though.

Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow In-Game Tiers - Reboot

We talked about Hyper Beam a page or two ago and Ryota and I, at least, agreed that the time you have to sit there buying coins (about 8 and a half minutes of mashing A) is long, boring, and should probably not go into the tiering. It's probably worth a mention when we do the write-ups though...

Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow In-Game Tiers - Reboot

Yeah, the Vulpix nom is in line with what I observed. It's in a weird position where it really wants Dig, but Dig really doesn't want Vulpix. For instance, something like Rattata or Ekans isn't necessarily better than Vulpix, but they definitely make better use of the Dig TM (coming earlier...

Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow In-Game Tiers - Reboot

Great and numerous logs! I'm impressed at how fast you're banging these out. I look forward to reading your report on Vulpix. I did a Flamethrower Vulpix run and it pleasantly surprised me, though my expectations had been very low.

Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow In-Game Tiers - Reboot

Thanks! Yeah, and on top of buying coins being a lot more boring, you could argue that you have to give some benefit of the doubt to catching Pokémon, since that's the whole point of the game (and since running any team of more than 1 Pokémon takes some time investment anyway).
