Selfdestruct is used vs. Mewtwo on average during Lax's second appearance where they may start to Psychic him. Especially if it's for 30% with a SDef drop. Early Meta I had some great wins with first appearance Booms though people have adapted.

If it's opposing Two X and you lose Lax a Mewtwo Y is now the fastest possible Pokemon besides Electrode btw. Keep that in mind before you let your Mega rip but also don't be afraid to X vs Eevee, Lax, Beedrill, Kangaskhan, Gyarados and even A-Muk. Do not worry about Timid low damage rolls btw there is no defense to possibly sacrifice.
