You can't get perish song on Gengar yet, and besides, not only does Shadow Tag only block the Pokémon across from Gengar, but Gengar would still have to stall out the remaining perish song turns, which your opponent could use to beat your partner to a pulp or set up.

Rotom-Wash dominates the stats, being a counter to Talonflame and just a great Pokémon overall. Excadrill is also high up, and with good reason. It's one of the best spinners in OU, and Mold Breaker becoming more common on it makes Rotom-W no longer a hard counter, not to mention Shadow Claw...

Now that you mention it, Registeel puts Carbink to shame, having the same defenses as Carbink, a higher HP, and a superior typing for the most part. The only things Carbink has over Registeel are screens and trick room.
