For convenience's sake. The Pokémon world apparently has all or a lot of the same languages as ours so I don't find it too farfetched to believe that they just coincidentally came up with the same words we did to classify the living beings in their world

Pokémon are the equivalent to animals in this world, they probably classify Pokémon into groups such as cats, dogs, birds, fish, etc just like we do with animals.
